How to cover a façade with a wooden block house. Cladding a house with a block house. Surface preparation is carried out in the usual way

A wooden house in a “rural” area looks as natural and attractive as a brick house in the city. Especially when the material for the walls is rounded logs. But the log is not cheap, and a lot of time must pass before the house shrinks and construction can be carried out. Finishing work. Therefore, other materials and technologies are often used. And in order to create a reliable imitation of a log house, they choose a block house for the exterior decoration of the house.

Block house as a type of facade lining

According to its purpose, method of fastening and connection, a block house is a type of “lining”.

In essence, the production technology can be represented as sawing out a beam from a rounded log, as a result of which four “slabs” with a regular spherical surface will remain - they serve as a blank for the block house. All that remains is to cut the tenon along one long side, and trim and cut out the groove on the other. And of course, grooves must be made on the wrong side to relieve internal tension in the wood.

In addition to the above, there is a technology for manufacturing from “standard” lumber - boards or timber. But due to the large amount of waste, its cost will be higher than that of the traditional one.

This type of cutter is used to cut a block house from timber or boards

If we talk about grade, then there are no domestic standards for this type of lumber. But in practice, manufacturers have developed their own classification, according to which there are three “pure” options and two “mixed” ones.

“Pure” options are A, B, C.

Grade “A” differs from “B” in the number of healthy knots per 1 m, their permissible diameter (15 mm versus 20 mm) and the absence of “black” knots and cracks. For grade “B”, small and short cracks are allowed, plus a small amount of “black” but not falling out knots.

Grades “C” and “BC” are not used for finishing houses; they are suitable for building fences or finishing outbuildings somewhere in the backyard.

Cladding board is just lumber - the requirements for its quality are the same as for other work

For the exterior cladding of a block house, panels with a thickness of at least 30 mm are used. And due to the characteristics of massive lumber, it is almost impossible to find a “perfectly” clean block house 4-6 m long, so the “mixed” grade “AB” appeared. In addition, even when storing lumber, minor defects in the form of shallow cracks may appear.

Sometimes there is another classification, borrowed from European manufacturers: “Extra” (“Prima”), “A” “B” “C”. If we draw parallels, then “Extra” will be the “pure” grade “A”.

With such a length, it is impossible to find a panel “without a hitch”, but for façade cladding it is not necessary

Advice! Since there are no standards for block house, manufacturers are free to assign any grade to their products. Therefore, when purchasing, you need to make sure that the declared quality meets your requirements.

Wood selection criteria

Even vinyl siding“Block House” has certain characteristics that indicate the quality of the façade panels. Wood is a “thinner” material, and in many respects the right choice durability depends external cladding. Therefore, it is not enough to assess the suitability of the variety - the density, resistance to moisture and strength of the wood are important.

To decorate a house with a block house, only conifers. Hardwoods (linden, oak, ash) are used for interior lining walls

Larch is considered an elite material and its qualities a priori correspond to the operating conditions of the outdoors: high humidity and exposure to precipitation. The density and strength of Russian larch, like that of a northern tree species (after all, it grows in Siberia), will also be at a high level.

Larch has dense and durable wood, so it is not for nothing that it belongs to the elite of coniferous species

With pine it is not so clear. Most of all for facade finishing Northern pine is suitable - its strength and density are much higher than that of wood from warm regions. And the origin of a pine block house is determined by the distance between the annual rings - the closer they are to each other, the better. The quality criterion is at least three rings per 1 cm of end cut.

How to choose width

There are criteria for choosing the diameter of a rounded log depending on the purpose and size of the house.

During construction Not big house seasonal residence(dachas, summer house) use a log with a diameter of up to 220 mm, the visible part of which lies in the range of 150-180 mm.

For a “full-size” heated house minimum diameter logs is 240 mm, recommended - 260-280 mm. And the visible part is 190-210 mm.

To maintain “proportions”, the width of the block house must correspond to the visible part of the log:

    for a cottage – 140-150 mm (with a thickness of 28-36 mm);

    for a large house - 190 mm and above (with a thickness of 36-45 mm).

Sheathing options

The only way to install a block house is through vertical lathing with horizontal arrangement panels.

Lathing is needed in any case. Even when they sheathe wooden house, and it is possible to attach the panels directly to the wall, you need ventilation gap to ventilate moisture (otherwise the wood will begin to rot).

The issue of insulation is decided depending on the seasonality of residence and wall materials. If this is a “summer” house, then insulation is not carried out. It is also possible not to install thermal insulation materials when the house is built according to frame technology or from foam concrete blocks 40 cm thick.

Sheathing during the construction of a “frame”, as another option for using a block house

In other cases, wall insulation is mandatory - the costs will quickly pay off due to savings on heating and air conditioning.

Installation features

Despite belonging to the lining, the methods of fastening to the sheathing when cladding a house externally with a block house are different than when carrying out internal work.

Inside, narrow modifications of panels of small thickness (up to 20-22 mm) are used, and operating conditions are characterized by stable humidity and temperature. Therefore, the house block can be fixed to the sheathing using hidden mounting fasteners - clamps. Exterior finishing is carried out with a thick and wide cladding board, in which, when humidity changes, such internal tension forces arise that it can simply be torn out of its grip.

For a clear picture of block house finishing, watch the video:

The second reason that does not allow the use of clamps for outer skin– method of placing a block house on the facade. The groove into which the bracket “clings” should face down (so that moisture does not get into it). And with this orientation, installation of panels on clamps can only be done from top to bottom.

Therefore, the outer cladding is carried out in one of two ways:

    Open. The panel is screwed to each beam at two points - from the groove side and closer to the tenon. Before fastening, holes are drilled into which screws are screwed in with force so that their heads do not protrude above the surface of the panel. Then these places are puttied, disguising them as a small knot. This installation method is the most reliable and is recommended for thick and wide house blocks.

    Hidden. Bottom panel fastened near the groove open method, plus holes are drilled at the base of the tenon at an angle of 45° into which self-tapping screws are screwed. Each subsequent row of block house (except the last) is fixed only through a spike. The top row is fastened in an open way.

Note. Due to fluctuations in humidity, the tree changes its size across the fibers - it swells or shrinks. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that during installation there remains a small gap between the groove stop of the upper row and the tenon of the lower one. If workers miss this nuance, then over time the wall will deform.

Design features

Cladding the facade of a house from a block house is more difficult than from imitation timber or plank. The reason is in the features of “bulk” lumber. Panels with a radius surface are more difficult to adjust to each other.

The most accurate way to increase the length is to “counter” cut the house block at an angle of 45°.

But more often a simpler option is used - a strip in the form of a slats or boards. The place for it is chosen so that it looks natural and is common to all connected panels.

Strip strips and corners are the easiest way to cover joints

Corner connections are also designed in a similar way - by connecting through a cut at a corner or by an overlay of two slats.

The final stage of cladding is sanding the surface and coating with varnish or colorless paint.

Conclusion

As a result, based on the above, it is clear that decorating a house with a block house is more difficult than any other facade panels. To be sure of the quality and durability of the cladding, it is better to entrust this work to professionals.

Such material as block house, which until recently was not yet known to the general public, is gaining increasing popularity in our country. It has high technical performance, so it is used more and more often among consumers.
Decorating a house with a block house can be done both from the outside and from the outside. inside. In appearance it will resemble the finish natural wood.

Positive aspects of using a blockhouse

Since the block house is made of natural materials, its advantages are undeniable:

  • Thanks to its high environmental friendliness, this material does not produce harmful emissions in environment, so they can be used to cover walls both outside and inside the house.
  • Despite its lightness, the material is quite durable. Therefore, it will not create additional loads on bearing structures building.
  • Since the material is made from wood, it acts as a good sound insulator and perfectly protects against sounds from the outside.
  • When the inside of a house is decorated with a block house, a special microclimate appears in the room. And the woody smell can have a beneficial effect on others.
  • Simple installation of finishing material that does not require special skills and tools.
  • Attractive appearance, And big choice various material options. This allows you to bring any design solutions to life.

This modern finishing material looks very impressive together with other finishing elements. And you can be convinced of this if you look at the photo of the decoration of houses with block houses.

Buildings clad with a block house exterior will always attract attention. Looking at them, you create a feeling of comfort, coziness and reliability. Therefore, to find out better what it looks like, the cladding of houses with a block house photo will help you figure it out.

Components of the structure

Before you start choosing material for cladding your home, you need to understand all the intricacies of such a structure. Cladding from a block house includes the main components:

  • sheathing, an element located between the wall and the immediate sheathing. It acts as a base for fasteners and is usually made from wood.
  • vapor barrier, special protective layer, protecting the insulation from moisture.
  • insulation material, the thickness of which is usually more than 10 cm. It uses foam plastic or mineral wool.
  • counter-lattice, necessary element, to provide space between the block house and the windproof film. It is necessary so that the elements of the block house do not begin to rot.
  • external finishing, the block house itself.

Different types of block houses, their features. The first thing people pay attention to when choosing this profile for finishing is the material from which it is made. The leaders among materials for the manufacture of finishing profiles are:

  • wood,
  • metal,
  • vinyl panels.

Wood profiles are manufactured using the following technology:

  • logs are cut into blanks,
  • then they are placed in a drying chamber,
    the blanks are kept in it for about 14 days. If you neglect to use the chamber, it will take about six months to dry them.

This material requires frequent paint treatment. Thus, its service life increases.

Metal sheets and their features:

  • a metal house block can be made of one or two logs,
  • its body is coated with zinc, and the thickness of the steel is usually more than 0.5 mm.
  • on the inside the plate is treated with a primer, and on the outside - with an imitation representing wood,
  • Such structures are durable and highly durable. Withstands changes temperature conditions, not afraid high humidity, does not respond to changing weather conditions.

Vinyl panels have special protective elements that make the material stronger than wood. And also, it is more profitable due to its inexpensive prices, and the color variety of profiles will satisfy the wishes of any customers.

Choosing material

In order for finishing your home with a block house to bring as few difficulties as possible, you need to pay attention to the following details:

  • when finishing the facade, it is better to use boards at least 15 cm wide and of the same size,
  • The longer the board is, the fewer joints you will get. The best option is considered 6 m,
  • for finishing the facade of a block house, it is better to use softwood, for example larch,
  • the denser the material, the longer the service life it can withstand,
  • when choosing wooden boards, special attention should be paid to the presence of defects. There should be no cracks, knots, rot or mold,
  • the moisture content of the building material should not exceed 20%,
  • Also, the material must be packaged in high quality, without any damage.

Compliance with these standards will ensure the maximum service life of the cladding.

Decorating a house with block panels

The interior lining of the rooms of a block house does not differ much from its exterior finishing, with the exception of some points:

  • inside the house it is necessary to use boards of small width,
  • All corners require mandatory fixation after installation.

Such panels are best used for rooms with low humidity, otherwise they require varnishing.

Block house in the interior wooden houses will look very harmonious, complementing general style premises. To develop such a design, there are different ideas, and the photograph taken will better help you make your choice.

Exterior decoration of the house

If installation is carried out using wooden panels, then the progress of work will be as follows:

  1. All wooden parts are treated with special solutions that prevent rotting and increase their fire resistance.
  2. The vapor barrier is attached to the walls using a construction stapler.
  3. Next, the sheathing is nailed down using self-tapping screws or dowels.
  4. The resulting cells between the sheathing are filled with insulation.
  5. An additional sheathing is attached to the resulting frame, onto which the house block is subsequently mounted.

After preparatory work completed, they begin to directly decorate the house with a block house.

The fastening of the boards is horizontal, and it starts from the bottom up. The panels are fixed using self-tapping screws or clamps. IN special fasteners the first board is inserted, and the subsequent ones are already put on the tenons located below the part of the sheathing. This process continues until all the walls of the house are covered.

When the house, finished with a house block, is ready, casings are installed on the window and door openings. What they will be like depends on the style in which the entire house is made.

To ensure that the block house panels last as long as possible, they are treated with special coatings, both inside and outside the house. Coating requires updates approximately every 6-8 years.

When the moment comes to choose what material is best to decorate the room with, a block house, among others, will have significant advantages. Since today it is possible to use various modern technologies, a room decorated with these panels will look attractive and original, and will also have a beneficial effect on residents due to its environmental friendliness. The main thing here is to clearly and correctly comply with all requirements for installing structures. And then anyone, even a novice master, will be able to cope with this task with his own hands.

Video: decorating a house with a block house

A home, no matter what it is made of, needs protection. Modern building materials offer a fairly extensive list of products for these purposes - tiles, stone, a wide variety of different types siding, numerous plastic products. Despite such an abundance of possibilities, many choose wood, and one of the options is a block house. And the question often arises, how to cover a house with a block house? The article below is about some of the features of working with this material.

Any work begins with preparation. The cladding process is no exception. This work is best done about a year after construction is completed. If sheathing is to be carried out wooden house block house, then you need to make sure that caulking is done on the log house. In the case when it is not done, you need to caulk the walls. Otherwise, no insulation will help and the house will be cold.

Initially, you need to decide on the materials that will be required to cover the house with a blockhouse. First of all, this concerns insulation and vapor barrier. When the cladding is completed in full, it is a real sandwich consisting of:

  • vapor barrier films;
  • sheathing;
  • thermal insulation;
  • windproof film;
  • counter-lattice.

If the cladding of a block house is carried out for wooden or brick house, then there is no need to use vapor barrier film; for such houses it will be superfluous. What is really necessary is to decide on the insulation, its type and thickness. It is best to use mineral insulation in the form of slabs.

When choosing insulation, the thickness of the wall on which it will be mounted matters. So, for a wooden house with a wall thickness of 15 cm, a layer of insulation 10 cm thick is required, but for economic reasons they are usually limited to a thickness of 5 cm. With such an insulation thickness, blockhouse cladding provides quite comfortable conditions in the house.

Another consequence of the choice of insulation will be the choice of the thickness of the sheathing bars. The fact is that between the sheathing bars there are insulation slabs, and the thickness of the insulation bars depends on its thickness. If the slabs are 5 cm in size, then the bars should be the same. Everything is covered with a windproof film on top and a counter-lattice is installed on top of it.

It is necessary to create a gap between the insulation and the sheathing, which ensures natural ventilation and improves sound insulation. After we managed to decide on auxiliary elements, you can start choosing the house block directly.

Which block house to use

When choosing a block house, you first need to pay attention to two points - the geometric dimensions of the board and the material from which it is made. The block house is usually divided into wide (more than 15 cm wide) and narrow (less than 15 cm wide). It is recommended to use a wide house block for external cladding, and a narrow house block for internal cladding. Of course, covering a house with a block house, the price of which depends on the geometric dimensions, done with a wide board will be more expensive, but you have to put up with it. This board will provide better protection.

Therefore, if you are wondering how to cover a house with a block house, the answer should be this - using best material. It will provide high-quality protection and long term operation. If you look at the material, then the block house made of larch is considered the best. It is distinguished by resistance to rotting and increased strength. In terms of its characteristics, pine boards are inferior to deciduous ones, but are quite suitable for external cladding.

Length is also important. A standard board is six meters long, but you can also use short boards, you just need to take into account that they will have to be joined along the length.

Based on the briefly described features, it is worth choosing the material with which the blockhouse will be covered; its price will be different, depending on the type of wood and the geometric dimensions of the board.

Features of installation and fastening of a block house

However, what has been stated is not all the subtleties that you should know when wondering how to sheathe a house; a block house can be used for this or not. You need to know that when installing the board, you should always place the groove down and the tenon up. This arrangement of the block house allows you to avoid the accumulation of moisture and dust directly in the groove, which will extend the service life of the board.

When the actual installation is carried out, it is necessary to make a gap between the floor (ceiling) and the casing to ensure natural ventilation inner surface sheathing. In addition, a small gap should remain between individual boards to prevent their deformation when temperature and humidity changes.

All the features are in the material, block-house installation according to all the rules”>block-house installation.

The choice of sheathing fasteners follows from the choice of material. Thick wide boards need reliable fastening. Self-tapping screws can best provide this, taking into account the conditions in which the block house will be located. That’s why you need to choose them, and you need to choose them with an anti-corrosion coating (zinc, anodizing). If you use such screws and cover the house with a blockhouse, the price will not increase much because of this, but there will be no traces of rusty fasteners on the board.

Sheath protection features

After the house has been upholstered with a block house, it must be protected from atmospheric influences. To do this, you need to cover it with varnish or paint. Moreover, it should be taken into account that no matter how dry the board is, it will still dry out, as a result of which white stripes may appear between individual boards. To avoid this, before installation, the tenon and groove of the board should be painted with the same paint (varnish) that will be used in the future.

In addition, it is imperative to follow the manufacturers' recommendations paint coatings for priming before painting. The painting itself should be done in two layers; with this treatment, the antiseptic properties are preserved much longer. You can also familiarize yourself in detail with the process of applying protective and decorative coatings In the article, how to paint a block house, impregnation and processing.

When varnishing, when the first layer of varnish has dried, it is recommended to sand the surface. This will remove the lint raised by the brush and provide a smooth and glossy surface. Houses covered with a block house, photos of which are given below, show what the final result will be.

Cladding a block house allows you not only to turn the most inconspicuous house into a fashionable and modern house, but also to provide additional comfort and coziness. And knowledge of the simple and easy intricacies of the cladding process will guarantee a good result upon completion of the work performed.

The modern construction market for home cladding can offer different materials: tiles, stone, siding, plastic. But the simplest and most comfortable to use is the block house. In order to know how to properly cover a house with a block house, you need to have an idea of the material itself and the specifics of working with it.

Brief description of the material

Block house is one of the most popular building materials, which is convenient to use both for sheathing a house outside and inside, and all this can be easily done with your own hands, without the involvement of hired labor.

By material type blockhouse can be of three types: metal, plastic and wood. Their installation is slightly different.

The plastic house block is the lightest, so the lathing for it can be made lighter and simpler

Wood is an environmentally friendly and natural material. Although wooden surfaces require additional processing, most people prefer to work with it.

Choosing a block house

The range of wooden blockhouses is so wide that the question involuntarily arises of which material to choose.

In fact, this is influenced by two factors:

  • dimensions;
  • material.

Having familiarized yourself with the specifics in detail, you can make the right choice.

Dimensions

The convenience of panels of this material, first of all, is that they are already prepared for work: they have special longitudinal ends, which greatly facilitate installation.

On construction market The following sizes are available:

  • wide panels 15 cm;
  • narrow panels less than 15 cm.

Narrow boards are used for indoor cladding, and wide ones for outdoor cladding, because... they provide better protection from the wind. Of course, the price for wide boards will be higher.

Length

The most common sizes are 3 - 6 m. It is possible to find siding and non-standard sizes, but most often this material can only be purchased to order. No installation can be done without waste, but careful marking and calculation will help minimize it.

Thickness

IN construction stores blockhouse is usually measured in cubic, square or linear meters. When purchasing, it is recommended to carefully study the price tag, paying attention to exactly which surface the dimensions are indicated. After all the difference between the working or common surfaces is about 6–7 mm.

Sometimes the price tag indicates the price in terms of the total surface area, which can cause problems when you have to cover the house with a block house. 6-7mm is a small difference, but large area the difference can be several boards.

Material

For exterior work, coniferous wood is most often used. Among the most common and cheapest materials are larch, pine and spruce.

It is believed that larch is best material.

Its advantages are obvious:

  • high strength;
  • moisture-repellent effect;
  • resistance to microorganisms;
  • durability.

Ancient Venice stands entirely in the water on stilts made of larch, and for how many centuries without major repairs

The cost of larch panels is somewhat high. Pine and spruce are much cheaper, but the characteristics of these materials look more modest.

Read more about technical specifications pine and spruce, the differences between them can be seen in the table:

Basic properties of wood Pine Spruce
Color Reddish or yellowish White
Color stability Gets more intense over time Maintains original color
Texture Pronounced Pronounced
Permissible moisture content of dry molded products 480 kg per 1m3 430 kg per 1m3
Resin content High content Reduced content
Knots and their location A small amount of A large number of
Rot resistance High Average
Strength High Lower than pine
Reaction to machining Wood soft The wood is harder

Based on the data, we can say that The properties of pine exceed those of spruce. Therefore, of the two economical materials, it is recommended to use pine.

You can buy panels on the market and hardwood trees. But their price is much higher, which is why manufacturers usually sell such goods to order and in small quantities.

For external cladding work with a block house, it is better to purchase panels made of softwood trees of grade AB, because This is the best material based on the price-quality ratio.

Storage conditions

Please pay attention to:

  • indoor humidity level;
  • use of pallets for storage;
  • the presence of packaging that protects the panels from dirt and dust;
  • presence of natural ventilation.

If any storage conditions are violated, it is not recommended to purchase the material.

How to properly sheathe a house with a block house

Having chosen the material and decided on the dimensions of the block house, you can begin preparing the installation.

Required Tools

To complete the work you will need the following set of tools:

  • nails (screws) or clamps;
  • hacksaw or power saw;
  • level;
  • antiseptic solutions for surface treatment;
  • varnish or paint for finishing.

Fire retardants will protect the wooden house block from unnecessary fires

When working with chemically active solutions, it is recommended to use additional protective equipment in the form of gloves.

Preparation

Like any construction works, installation of panels requires preliminary preparation.

Surface preparation is carried out in the usual way:

  • cleansing from various kinds spots;
  • treatment with antiseptic solutions.

At external cladding The surface of a wooden house with siding may not be leveled, because it will still be treated with a layer of insulation and lathing on top.

Wood panels block house must be treated with special solutions to increase service life.

It is better to begin sheathing approximately a year after the completion of construction. It is recommended to caulk the surfaces of the house. Otherwise, no additional insulation will not be able to help, and the room will always be cool.

The preparation of the walls of houses made of brick, foam blocks and other materials is somewhat different.

It consists of several stages:

  • cleaning the surface from efflorescence;
  • leveling the walls with plaster to obtain a smooth and even surface;
  • installation of metal sheathing.

The sheathing is leveled using a plumb line or level. The quality of further installation depends on how well the lathing is done.

If you plan to sheathe the house in full, you should prepare:

  • vapor barrier film;
  • sheathing;
  • thermal insulation;
  • windproof film;
  • counter-lattice.

Wooden or brick house You don’t have to treat it with vapor barrier film; it’s more important to decide on the type of insulation and choose the optimal thickness. Mineral slabs are well suited for these purposes.

When choosing insulation, it is important to consider the thickness of the walls that will be sheathed b. For example, if the thickness of the walls of a wooden house is 15 cm, it is recommended to use insulation with a maximum thickness of 10 cm, or 5 cm in order to save money.

The thickness of the sheathing slats depends on what insulation was chosen..

Since mineral insulation boards are located between the sheathing slats, their thickness must match each other. Eg, if the thickness of the insulation is 5 cm, then the sheathing should have the same dimensions.

The next stage of preparatory work is covering with windproof film and installing a counter-lattice. This is necessary in order to create a distance between the layers of insulation and sheathing, which will naturally provide ventilation and improve sound insulation properties.

Ventilation of the insulating layer significantly increases its service life

When all the preparatory work is completed, you can begin installing the panels.

Features of block house installation

When installing, the panels must be positioned so that the grooves are at the bottom and the tenons at the top so that moisture and dust do not accumulate in the boards.

It is imperative to leave gaps between the last panels at the top and bottom for natural ventilation of the surface. It is better to leave 5 mm distances between the panels themselves to ensure comfortable installation.

Nuances of fastening

The process itself does not cause difficulties and is completed quite quickly. The main questions that arise are related to how to fasten and accurately install in corners.

For thick wide boards it is required reliable fastening, That's why It is strongly recommended in such cases to use self-tapping screws with anti-corrosion coatings in the form of zinc or anodizing.

You can use nails as fasteners, which will somewhat reduce the overall cost of the work. If nails and screws are visible on the surface, then Clippers are used for hidden fastening.

Their use has a number of advantages:

  • no risk of damaging the surface being treated;
  • ease of installation, because they are made exactly to the size of the panels;
  • reliability and strength;
  • aesthetic appearance.

The main disadvantage is the high price compared to other fasteners. But if you have no experience in installation, it is better to use clamps, because... When using nails and screws, cracks and chips can easily form.

Finishing work

The final work involves treating the surface with varnish or paint to give it an aesthetic appearance and increase its service life.

A metal and plastic blockhouse does not require final finishing.

How much does it cost to cover a house with a block house?

Anyone who wants to cover a house with a blockhouse, with all its advantages, will notice that price it is quite democratic. The cost depends on the size of the surface, type, type of material and types of fasteners used. The cost of hiring specialists is low. Therefore, if you do not have sufficient experience, it is better to turn to professionals.

How to properly sheathe the outside of a house with a block house with your own hands can be seen in more detail in the video:

A block house allows you to give a stunning appearance to any home, even if it is built from ordinary building materials. After covering the block with a house, it seems that the house is entirely built of logs; it is impossible to distinguish it from a natural log house. You can do the paneling of a house with a block house yourself.

It is worth noting that the original meaning of the word blockhouse has been distorted. In the West it means frame houses, which are collected in a short time. In our country, the same term is used primarily for finishing panels. To produce a block house, different types of wood are used; coniferous wood is often used, so it will not be difficult to choose suitable option for any home.

Choosing a block house type

Block house can be classified according to the type of material used:

  • wooden block house. Made directly from logs. At a woodworking plant, a log is processed according to a square-in-a-circle pattern, that is, semicircular sections around the perimeter of the logs are cut down, the remainder is used to make beams and boards, and sections with a semicircular surface are used to make a block house. Even at the production stage, the wood is impregnated with special protective compounds, and the packaging eliminates deformation;

  • metal block house. In fact, it is a type of siding - it only imitates the shape and surface of wood, installation is carried out using the same method as the installation of siding panels;

  • vinyl house block is somewhat dull compared to natural wood. Installation is no different from installing siding and a metal block house.

Tools and materials for covering a house with a block house

Cladding a house with a block house with your own hands is quite simple; for this you will need the following tools and materials:

  • wooden blocks (section 40x50 and 30x40 mm), for lathing you can also use metal carcass, but most often preference is given to wooden sheathing;
  • waterproofing film;
  • vapor barrier layer. Foil kraft paper is often used;

  • heat-insulating material, in principle, the installation of a layer of heat insulation is not necessary, but most often the sheathing of a block house is combined with wall insulation;
  • block house;
  • wood treatment product, despite factory impregnation, additional processing a house block would not be out of place;
  • stain or varnish;
  • screws, nails or clamps;

Block house wall cladding technology

For correct plating wall block house installation work should be performed in the following sequence:

  1. Preparing the wall. At this stage, the walls are cleaned of dirt. If wood cladding is performed outer wall, then it is necessary to carefully remove the remaining bark from the logs.
  2. A layer of waterproofing is attached to the surface of the wall. For this you can use a special film.

  1. A sheathing is placed on top of this film. Typically used wooden sheathing, although it is allowed to use metal profiles. The sheathing elements must first be protected from rotting and insects by impregnation with special substances. It is recommended to use beams with a minimum cross-section of 40x50 mm, this size is due to the fact that the thickness thermal insulation materials, as a rule, is equal to 50 mm. The pitch of the sheathing beams should not exceed 50 - 60 cm. Mineral wool or other heat-insulating material is placed in the resulting cells.

Since there must be a gap between the blockhouse and the layer of heat insulation, a second sheathing is placed on top of the sheathing already attached to the wall, but bars of a smaller cross-section are used - 30x40 mm; the panels of the blockhouse will be attached to them later. Before attaching the second layer of sheathing, the insulation is attached over the entire surface vapor barrier membrane(using a stapler).

It is important not to confuse the location of the vapor barrier layer; foil kraft paper is positioned with the foil facing out.

  1. After this, you can begin installing the panels of the block house; covering the wall can begin both from top to bottom and in the opposite direction. At this stage great importance If the panels are horizontal, the slightest distortion can ruin the entire positive effect of covering the block with house. Particular care must be taken to control the horizontality of the first panel.

The outer wall is not covered over its entire height; the house block is not brought down to the ground by at least 30 cm. Stone materials are usually used to finish this area.

Even before starting the sheathing, you need to decide on the type of fastening of the house block to the sheathing; the speed of the work and the percentage of defects will depend on this. The panels are connected to each other using a tongue-and-groove pattern, but they also need to be attached to the sheathing strips. This can be done in 3 ways.

Using clamps. This will require additional labor, so the installation of the block house will be somewhat slower, but the risk of damage to individual panels will be minimized.

Using galvanized nails. Perhaps the most undesirable method of fastening, which can only be recommended to an experienced person. The nails are driven at an angle or perpendicularly into the groove of the board. When using this method there is an extremely high risk of damage to the elements. lock connection panels.

Using self-tapping screws. In this case, a hole equal to the diameter of the self-tapping screw is drilled in the board ½ of its thickness, then the house block is attached to the sheathing. Subsequently, this hole is masked using, for example, a mixture of glue and sawdust.

After installing and fastening the first row, its horizontalness is checked using building level. In the future, horizontality can be checked every few rows.

To make it easier to cover a house with a block house, it is recommended to arrange the panels so that the tenon fits into the groove from top to bottom. With this arrangement of the panels, a light tap is sufficient. rubber mallet to ensure that the panels are firmly connected to each other.

  1. Completion of installation of the block house. The finishing touch can be considered the finishing of external and internal corners. In principle, you can try to connect the panels of a block house end-to-end, but this will require careful sawing of the ends of the panels, which will lead to unnecessary labor costs.

In addition, a butt joint will not allow the panels to compensate for temperature deformations when heated. To save time, most often special corners are used for finishing corners, which are attached to adhesive mixtures. This does not affect the aesthetic component.

The same approach is used when finishing windows and doorways. Gaps and other imperfections are hidden behind the platbands.

  1. Despite the factory impregnation of wood with protective compounds, many people prefer to coat the wood again with an antiseptic after installation is completed. You can also use varnish or stain to achieve the desired shade of wood.

With the help of block house cladding, even the most ordinary brick house can easily be turned into a natural log house. It will look as if the builders have just finished laying the last logs.
