DIY bath screen made of plastic panels. Screens for bathtubs: types and tips for choosing. Option #3. Frame made of metal profiles

Almost finished. The walls and floor are tiled chic tiles, fortunately, today the assortment of it in stores can drive into a stupor not only the average person, but also experienced designer. New faucets sparkle with nickel and gold, shimmering with reflections suspended ceiling, the new bathtub pleases with its extraordinary whiteness. But its façade doesn’t fit into all this splendor: all the unsightly communications, legs, and even the outside of it are visible. modern miracle The plumbing does not harmonize with the interior created with such love.

What to do?

Naturally, something needs to be covered. How? Should I make it myself or buy it ready-made? This is the question that is almost always asked by the happy owner of an updated one according to the latest fashion trends bathroom. And we will try to help. Let's talk about what these designs are like and how to do it yourself, if this wise Solomonic decision was made.

Short review

Why Solomonic? Because it’s not always possible to buy what you want and what will fit the size and, most importantly, configuration new bath, which can be quite varied. Therefore, let's talk about what types of this design there are in general, how to make a screen for a bathtub yourself and, of course, what it is made of.

And why is it needed at all, by and large? In addition to being decorative, as mentioned above, a screen under a bathtub can perform several more functions. Firstly, it will protect communications from mechanical influence from the outside, and secondly, behind it you can arrange a warehouse for useful, but not very attractive in appearance, things.

Plastic

This option also does not require special material costs. But you will still have to work longer here. Do-it-yourself plastic bath screens are made either from large panels, the designs of which, by the way, are also very diverse, or from individual pieces of PVC cut to height.

To make such a design, you need to buy, in addition to the main component, a profile specially designed for this purpose, and decorative corners.

Process technology

We cut out blanks of the required height from plastic. We measure the length of the future screen, and then cut off the excess pieces from the guides. We make markings on the floor - draw a line along which we will install the lower profile. Then we directly install the screen under the bathtub. We insert PVC panels directly on the floor into the upper and lower guides. Then we apply glue along the marking line (in our case, these are liquid nails), top part We install the structures under the side of the bathtub, and the lower one directly on the glue. We wait until the glue dries, decorate the edges of the screen with corners (we place them on the same liquid nails). You can use it! True, such a screen under the bathtub will only serve a decorative function. It is not recommended to use it as a place to store any items - there will be too much fuss to constantly take out and then insert at least one of the panels, not to mention several.

If you still want to have a sliding rather than a solid structure, then it is best to adopt the following method.

A la wardrobe

This would be, perhaps, the best option of all that exist. Installing a screen for a bathtub according to the principle of a wardrobe is good in all respects. Firstly, the installation procedure itself is relatively simple, and secondly, the choice of doors for such a design is simply huge. These can be either ordinary MDF panels or mirror or glass doors. The latter, by the way, can be ordered with a pattern applied in accordance with your own wishes, thanks to which it will be possible to fit the screen into the existing interior as organically as possible.

What to do?

Ride on construction market, having previously measured the height and width of the space under the bathroom. There we find a pavilion that offers all the components for sliding wardrobes and buy guides, appropriate fittings and dowels (regular and “bug”). And then we select the doors. These can be ordinary MDF panels of any color, mirrored, or glass with beautiful prints. Here everything depends on the contents of your wallet and the design idea itself. The store employees will certainly cut out the required pieces for you according to the given sizes, all you have to do is pay for the purchase. After which we go home with the purchased material, where we begin installation.

Description of work

We cut out the guides in accordance with the width of the opening, then fasten the upper one to the bathroom itself with dowels, and the lower one with self-tapping screws to the floor. We mount the fittings on the doors and insert them into the guides. We check that the wheels fit well into the grooves, since it is thanks to them that the doors will move apart. As you can see, the installation process is quite simple. The only negative is the rather high cost of such material. But the result is worth it.

How to make a screen for a bath: other options

Other methods of making a screen for a bathtub are more labor-intensive. This is the manufacture of a structure made of plasterboard, the installation of which involves creating a frame from profiles, foam blocks, bricks, etc. As a rule, such screens are subsequently covered with ceramic tiles - the same as the bathroom itself, or in a different, contrasting color. It really depends on the wishes of the master himself. Each of these methods is quite labor-intensive and requires a separate detailed description. The only thing I would like to note is that making a screen from plasterboard will be the best option if you have a bathtub of a non-standard configuration. This material is very light and easy to work with, it takes a given shape well, so it can be used to decorate any surface.

So making a bathtub screen with your own hands is not such a difficult task. You just need to pick suitable option, which will match the design of your bathroom and functional features installed plumbing.

In order to hide all communications, pipes and drains that are located under the bathroom, a special screen is installed. It mainly carries an aesthetic load so that the appearance of the lower part of the bathtub does not spoil the design of the bathroom. Some modern baths already supplied with screens that perfectly match it in appearance and functionality, but not all of them. In order not to spend money on buying a ready-made and not very cheap screen, you can think about how to make a screen for a bathtub with your own hands. This not only allows you to significantly save money, but also install a screen that will fully suit the tastes and preferences of the owners; in addition, you can equip the screen with several useful functions.

What to make a bath screen from?

There is a huge amount building materials, which can be used in a damp bathroom environment. So we can distinguish the following options, based mainly on the material that will form the base of the screen:

  1. Laying a brick screen;
  2. Sheathing with moisture-resistant plasterboard followed by finishing with any suitable material(tiles, plaster, wallpaper, etc.)
  3. Sheathing with moisture-resistant MDF, OSB with subsequent finishing;
  4. Plastic sheathing.
  5. Purchasing a ready-made screen or a set of sliding doors.

In addition to the store-bought solution, only plastic sheathing actually allows you to form a screen without the need for further finishing. This material is quite acceptable and practical, not affected by moisture and biologically neutral. Easy to clean and durable enough even if one or more strips are damaged plastic sheathing it is easy to replace. And yet for durable design or if plastic simply does not fit into the interior of the bathtub, you should choose one of the remaining three options.

In any case, the screen for the bathtub, no matter what it is assembled from, must meet several requirements:

  • To access the main sewerage units and laid communications, there must be a technological opening that can be closed with a door or plug;
  • It is advisable to seal the space near the floor to separate the floor under the bathtub from the rest of the bathroom;
  • The screen is not a supporting structure and the bath should not rest on it.

For convenience, a small recess is formed in the screen, most often with a slope so that it does not interfere with the legs. Some craftsmen, if there is free space under the bathtub or on the side of it, install an additional cabinet or drawer as part of the screen for household chemicals or detergents.

Laying a brick screen

In this version everything is simple. Along the border of the bathtub or from wall to wall near which the bathtub stands, a brick wall half a brick thick is erected. Mandatory, as during construction regular wall, the brick is altered, that is, each next row is shifted by half a brick. A window is formed in a place convenient for access to the bathtub drain. In order to cover it, it is enough to buy or make a door and attach it to the awnings.

Although the brick wall is quite strong, you still shouldn’t rest the bathtub on it, so between the last row of bricks and the edge of the bathtub there should be a gap of about 1-2 cm, which can be blown polyurethane foam. After this, you can cover the brickwork with ceramic tiles or any other suitable material that will match the design of the room.

If you liked this option, but you don’t know how to lay brick, read about the basics of working with it.

Sheathing with plasterboard

The most flexible method in terms of forming the shape of the screen. Everything depends only on the desire of the owner. Installing a screen under a bathtub begins with forming a frame. For this you can use either a metal profile or wooden beam 40x40 mm. The tree must also be protected from moisture, otherwise rot and fungus will inevitably appear.

When installing the frame, it is taken into account that the facing material will also be sheathed on top of the drywall. So along the wall to which the side of the bathtub adjoins, a line for installing the edge of the profile is marked so that it is recessed from the edge of the bathtub by the thickness of the subsequent cladding. For example, if you plan to cover the screen with tiles, then an indentation of 12.6 mm + 5 mm + 4-6 mm (tile thickness) = 21.6-23.6 mm is made. The line must be continued along the floor along the entire length over which the screen will extend. In this case, a plumb line is used to adjust relative to the edge of the bath.

A UD profile is fixed along the perimeter of the resulting line. The profile that is attached to the floor should additionally be glued with sealant to prevent water from getting under and from under the bathtub. Next, the CD profile is installed vertically and secured to the supporting profile. The distance between the profiles is maintained at 600 mm, and racks are additionally installed in the place where the technological hole or recess for installation will be located drawer or a locker.

A ledge for feet can be formed in the center of the bathtub. To do this, the profile on the floor is not installed in a straight line, but in the shape of the letter U with a recess for the bathtub of about 10-15 cm. The racks in the niche will be installed at an angle.

Example of a tiled plasterboard screen with a lip

Moisture-resistant green plasterboard is used for cladding. It is cut to the appropriate length, equal to the height of the screen minus 2 cm. Fastening is done with hardened black screws every 15 cm around the perimeter of the sheet and in the center along the profile. In this case, it is important to choose the correct length of screws so as not to inadvertently screw the top screws into the acrylic bathtub. The sheets are attached with 1 cm indentations from the floor and the edge of the bathtub. This is necessary to prevent swelling of the drywall. After all, even though it is moisture resistant, it will still begin to deteriorate from direct contact with water.

When the sheathing is completed, the drywall is primed and sheathed with any suitable material, such as ceramic tiles, decorative plaster, moisture-resistant wet wallpaper, film materials, etc.

Sheathing: MDF, OSB

The entire process is virtually identical to drywall sheathing. The only difference is that additional ventilation slots should be made in the screen opposite side from the technological hole. To do this, it is enough to make a slot only 2-3 cm wide and 5-10 cm long, which can be covered with a neat plastic grill. MDF sheets must be primed on both sides before being fixed to the frame.

Screen made of plastic lining

Most simple option The bathtub will be lined with plastic lining. This option immediately produces a beautiful finishing surface and does not require additional processing or sheathing. If necessary, the screen can be easily disassembled to gain full access to the space under the bath.

In addition to the lining itself, you will also need starting profile, which is strengthened along the perimeter of the future screen. From the top, under the edge of the bathtub, a beam or metal profile is first secured to the walls, and then a plastic starting profile. For the reliability and strength of the entire structure, it is also advisable to secure the profiles in the middle of the screen. This is especially important when using cheap options plastic lining, which can deform and lose its shape even from small mechanical loads. The lower profile, as in the previously described options, should preferably be glued to the floor using sealant.

Strips of plastic are cut using a regular construction knife and the edges are inserted into the starting profile. This way the entire surface of the screen is covered. At the site where the technological hole is formed, a rectangle is cut and a special plastic door is inserted, which are sold in the same places as the lining itself.

Since there is an unimaginable variety of plastic lining on sale, color design, pattern and even texture, then choosing a suitable option will not be difficult.

Sliding version of the plastic screen for the bathroom

As for the sliding screen for the bathroom, its creation requires either imagination or ready-made kit for installation from any hardware store. If you don’t have the second one, we recommend looking for ways to implement it from folk craftsmen. One option is in the video below.

Very often, a screen for a bathtub is made with your own hands for the sole purpose of hiding the not very aesthetic appearance of communication pipes.
But at the same time, this element can become one of decorative ornaments bathroom.

Main types of bath screens

Depending on the functional load, bath screens can be:

  • deaf;
  • with shelves: open or closed doors;
  • removable;
  • swing;
  • sliding;
  • with retractable sections or drawers.

But, regardless of which option you have to choose, you should take into account three important nuances:

  • the screen must provide free access to communications for their maintenance and repair, including emergency;
  • do not use the crane as load-bearing structure for the bath itself;
  • make a reliable waterproofing seam between the floor and the screen to avoid possible ingress and flow of water under the bathtub.

Installing the screen sometimes allows you to slightly expand functionality premises. But this fact is especially relevant for small bathrooms, as it allows you to organize additional features, for example, for storing household chemicals. In this regard, it has the greatest functionality sliding screen for a bath, as it does not require additional space to open the doors. From an aesthetic point of view, great opportunities are provided by blind screens, which can be finished with the same materials as the entire bathroom.

The most popular materials for making screens

The main requirement for the materials used to construct a bathtub screen is moisture resistance, and it is based on this criterion that a choice should be made.

Solid screens for bathtubs

If the choice is made in favor of the deaf option, then the most practical material- brick, which can then be easily covered with cladding. But it is imperative to provide a technological opening for access to communications, which, however, may also have decorative design: this can be an ordinary hatch, attached with self-tapping screws to the frame, and when closed it does not stand out against the background of the screen in any way and does not spoil its design.

Fixed screens can be mounted from other materials, for example, from MDF, plastic, etc., but most often they are used to make more complex structures with a frame structure that provide greater functionality - such as sliding or swing systems.

Tile screen

Removable and sliding systems

Removable screens are most often used for acrylic bathtub, they often come with it in the same configuration and are made of the same material. The undeniable advantage of such a screen is its beautiful and presentable appearance, perfect fit to the bathtub, and the disadvantage is the inability to use additional space in the bathroom.

Note!

As a rule, ready-made structures are also made from this material, which large assortment are offered in specialized stores. If necessary, you can choose the option with an end insert. In this case, it is important to purchase a model exactly according to the size of the bathtub, but you will still have to make an exact adjustment to the location.

In quite rare cases, a mirror can be used as a material for the screen, from which panels or, in the case of a sliding system, doors are made.

Installation of frame types of screens for bathtubs

Due to the fact that many types of materials that are highly moisture resistant have appeared on the market, the task of making a screen for a bathtub is not difficult and can be done independently. Often, moisture-resistant plasterboard, plastic or MDF, OSB panels are used for this. But in this case, a frame must be made, the material for which is metal or aluminum profile. Wood, even specially treated wood, is not recommended for this, although it is allowed.

Making a screen frame

The size of the profile is determined by the width of the material used and the thickness of the decorative finishing - for drywall and OSB it is mandatory, and MDF panels or plastic do not require additional decoration. If you plan to install a sliding system, you should also purchase guide rails similar to those used in sliding wardrobes. To create a convenient approach to the bathtub, you should either provide a special indentation of 5-10 cm from the edge of the bathtub inwards or install an inclined version of the frame.

Access to communications can be provided in two ways: immediately behind open doors or behind an additional internal panel, for example, from MDF - in this case, the external space has a more presentable appearance. But access to communications can also be arranged in an original way, for example, by installing a drawer in the technological window, which, if necessary, can be easily pulled out completely.

Installation of panels

After work on the frame is completed, it is necessary to prepare the panels for installation. First, parts of the future screen are cut out of a sheet of material, they are treated with water-repellent compounds, and they are installed. The blind parts are attached using self-tapping screws, and the doors are mounted on runners or hung on hinges.

Despite the fact that the materials used have good moisture resistance characteristics, you should not abuse this, especially considering the conditions in which they will be used.

Plastic screen

The main advantages of plastic bath screens

Plastic is very often used to make screens and its popularity is explained by the following reasons: good performance characteristics, attractive appearance and low price of the material. Wherein plastic screen You can purchase it as a ready-made factory design or make it yourself. In the second option, it is also necessary to make a frame, making sure to treat its lower part in contact with the floor with sealant.

It is important when constructing a plastic screen to install an additional profile to ensure the stability of the structure, since the material has a special large sizes sag. In order for a screen made of plastic to fit most organically into the bathroom interior, you can choose the material both in color and pattern, and in texture.

Sliding simple screen

Brickwork for screen

This method of installing a screen is perhaps the most traditional and justified, provided that there is no particular need for additional space in the bathroom. To do this, masonry is made along the perimeter of the half-brick bathtub, with the obligatory installation of a technological window for access to communications. But before installing a screen under a brick bathtub, it should be borne in mind that such a structure cannot be used as a frame. This especially applies to cast iron or steel, and with acrylic bathtubs there are options, but it is still better to use a special installation frame.

Note!

When carrying out masonry, do not forget about bandaging it, as well as about the gap with the bathtub within 1.5 cm, which is sealed with waterproof silicone sealant or blown out with foam.

Particular attention should be paid to the design of the technological opening for servicing communications. Often this is a small door or hatch that has the same decorative coating as the entire screen, and for fastening you can use hinges or special canopies.

Screen with doors

Options for finishing the brickwork of the bathtub screen

Having installed a permanent screen under the bathroom, choosing the material for its finishing is not difficult. Naturally, the determining point is the overall style of the interior and, naturally, the moisture resistance of the material.

You can begin facing work after the masonry is completely dry; almost any material can be used to decorate it: ceramic tiles, decorative panels plastic and others. But, of course, in the bathroom the most popular and practical look finishing is a tile cladding option that can repeat the pattern and color scheme walls or contrast with them or with the floor covering. Also, even a mirror can be used as a decorative finish for screens.

In order to qualitatively equip your bathroom, you should not forget about the aesthetic side of the finish. If you think that after renovation it is enough to install furniture and plumbing and that’s all, then you are deeply mistaken. In some cases, communications running under the bathroom remain visible, which, of course, do not add aesthetics to the room. Therefore, the free space under the bathtub should be covered with something, and a decorative screen is ideal for these purposes. Often, after repairs there is practically no money left, and it is not possible to buy ready-made panels, or there are other reasons, so you can make a bath screen with your own hands.

Aesthetics above all

IN Soviet times The free space under the bathroom, as a rule, was not closed, and no one worried about the aesthetic side of the issue. But time is running, technologies are developing and make it possible to make a screen for a bathtub of almost any shape and style. Nowadays, special attention is paid to small interior details, because they can radically affect the overall picture of the renovation.

Screens for the bathtub can be purchased together with the bathtub or separately from it, but it is not always possible to choose right size and the shape of the structure. Therefore, you can create a homemade bath screen that will not differ from the factory one either in quality or appearance.

And in this article we will tell you how to make a screen for a bathtub with my own hands, what is required for this, what material to choose and other useful things.

Selecting material for the screen

At the very beginning, before making a bathroom screen with your own hands, you need to decide what material will be used.

The most popular today are:

Product requirements

Just like a factory product, a homemade bath screen must meet certain requirements:

  • After installing the screen, there should be free access to communications. That is, the design must contain a door, window or canvas made in the form of sliding sections;
  • Material or its protective covering must correspond to the special microclimate of the bathroom. In the bathroom there is almost always high humidity, and sudden temperature changes occur. Therefore the usual Decoration Materials cannot be used in the bathroom, because under the influence of these factors they will quickly collapse;
  • After installing the screen, the bathtub should not rest on its plane.

Tip: The free space under the bathroom is often used as a niche for storing small items, household chemicals, detergents, etc. Also with internal and outside You can install additional shelves. This solution is especially relevant for small-sized baths.

Creating a brick screen

Brick is enough universal material. In general, making a screen for a bathtub from brick is a classic option.

Creating a brick screen under the bathroom with your own hands is quite simple, you just need to know and take into account the peculiarities of the work process:

  • The laying is carried out in a quarter of a brick;
  • The screen is placed from one wall to another along the border of the bath;
  • To create a correct and strong screen structure, each row of brick is shifted by half of the previous one (“stitched”), that is, a “chessboard order” is obtained;
  • The space between the floor and the bathtub is not completely filled; space must be left for a door or viewing window;
  • The last row of bricks is not placed close to the bathtub. A gap of 1-2 cm is left between the brick and the bathtub; it can be blown out with foam or a decorative overlay can be installed.

When making a screen under a brick bathtub, you need to remember that it is not completely finished design. After the masonry mortar has completely dried, it is mounted on top of the brick. decorative finishing, it can be tiles, laminate or mosaic.

Important! It is highly undesirable to use wallpaper, because high humidity and the temperature of the lines of service will be very short.

Making a screen from MDF

Screens made from MDF panels are quite popular, because with careful use and high-quality surface treatment they can last long time, which sometimes amounts to 10 or more years.

Before making a screen for a bathtub from MDF, a special frame is installed from a metal profile or wooden beams.

Important! If wood is used for the frame, it should be pre-treated with a special antiseptic.

When the frame is completely ready, you can start covering MDF panels. To properly protect the material from moisture penetration, it is treated on all sides with a primer, and the points of contact with the floor are treated with silicone sealant.

The screen must have technical and ventilation holes approximately 2x5 cm in size. To make such holes look harmonious, decorative grilles or panels for ventilation ducts can be installed in them.

Manufacturing of plastic screens

Manufacturing screens for bathtubs from plastic panels is much simpler structures from MDF. Since there is no surface pre-treatment process and decorative cladding, installation time is reduced several times.

For your information: The undoubted advantages of plastic screens include easy installation and dismantling the canvas.

Before installing the structure, you need to build a frame; for this, you should use a profile for the screen under the bathtub. Its installation is mandatory because it will fix the panel under the bathtub in the desired position. Thanks to this design it is possible to create sliding structure. This solution will allow you to rationally use the space under the bathroom.

The frame is made of several parts. The starting profile is installed first, which serves as a support for subsequent structures. The reliability of the installation will determine whether the structure will warp or not. Subsequent elements are mounted on special slides, along which the canvases will move.

Just like in MDF screens, plastic structures must have ventilation and technological openings.

We must remember! When making a screen for a bathtub yourself, you need to take care of sealing the area adjacent to the floor. This procedure can be performed with sealant. Such actions will prevent water from entering the space under the bathtub.

Decorative tile panel

The process of creating a screen from tiles is very similar to the previous ones, only here the pre-prepared frame is sheathed with moisture-resistant plasterboard, after which ceramic tiles are laid.

Unlike previous designs, the tiled screen for the bathroom is made monolithic with your own hands. Therefore, before starting the installation, you need to think through the entire design of the screen where the communication will take place, ventilation and technical openings will be located. Since access to the pipes will be limited, at the very beginning you will have to take care of creating a window or door for servicing the communications.

Before making a bathroom screen from ceramic tiles you need to decide on the material for the base. The best would be brickwork or plasterboard construction. The frame for plasterboard can be made of wooden blocks or a metal profile.

Ceramic tiles are laid using waterproof tile adhesive for kitchens and bathrooms, and the seams are sealed with a special grout.

Important! The grout must contain substances that prevent the formation of fungus and mold.

A few words in conclusion

To make your own bathroom screen high-quality and create a cozy atmosphere in the room, use our tips on how to make a bathroom screen, and you can also study video tutorials and photo reports from craftsmen.

An excellent way to hide all plumbing communications and give the room completeness is to install a screen under the bathtub. And in order for the screen to fit perfectly into the interior of the bathroom and save money, you can make it yourself.

Making your own bath screen

A bathtub installed without a screen does not look very elegant even in the neatest and most stylish bathroom. Therefore, you should think carefully about how you can close the space under it in such a way that access to plumbing communications is not blocked and all functionality is preserved.

A universal solution to this problem can be a special screen installed under the bathtub. And in order to get a beautiful, unique and unusual interior detail, you need to abandon the ready-made purchased screen and make a screen for the bathtub with your own hands.

Which material to choose?

The easiest and most popular screens to manufacture are plastic ones, which are not afraid of dampness and are quite durable. The screen can be covered with a special film or made of multi-colored plastic that matches the tone of the bathroom interior.

Those who do not intend to use the space under the bathroom for storage can install plasterboard screens, which should be equipped with a door so that you have access to plumbing equipment if necessary.

Support frame

For each screen, you need to build a special frame, onto which the panels themselves must then be attached. The frame can be made of aluminum or wooden profiles with parameters 40x40, 30x30, 25x25.

Before starting work, you must make markings on the floor and walls in order to mark as accurately as possible all the lines along which you will install the screen under the bathtub with your own hands. You can also install transverse profiles that will help strengthen the screen and give additional rigidity to the entire structure.

Then all the profiles must be joined together and attached to the floor and walls of the bathroom.

Construction of a brick screen

Quite original and at the same time stylish solution can become a brick screen, which will then be finished with decorative plaster or tiles. Such a screen can be easily made independently.

When starting work, you need to mark the future screen so that the edge of the bath is flush with its wall.

You should also make vertical markings on the opposite wall. When laying bricks, this marking will serve as a guide. It is recommended to do the laying on cement-sand mortar in ¼ or ½ brick.

If desired, you can make a special niche for feet in the screen and be sure to build a small door so that there is access to plumbing communications and drainage. You can make such a door yourself from plastic panels or purchase a ready-made one in a store.

Popular screens

Screen made of plastic lining

This screen is the cheapest, and it is also very easy to manufacture and install. The plastic does not require any additional finishing, so you can use the bath immediately after installation. If necessary, this structure can be easily disassembled in order to open access to the space under the bathroom.

Before you begin installation, you should stock up on everything necessary materials: in addition to the panels themselves, you will also need a starting profile, which will need to be secured around the entire perimeter of the screen.

In order to prevent the plastic from losing its shape and bending over time, it is necessary to strengthen the frame with an additional profile installed in the middle of the structure.

Installation should begin by gluing the bottom of the profile to the floor using sealant. Then you need construction knife cut the lining strips and insert them into the starting profile. You just need to cut a hole in advance in the place where the door will be located.

Sheathing with plasterboard

To make such a screen, you should use special drywall, which is intended for rooms with high levels of humidity.

One of the main advantages of a plasterboard screen is that it can be built in the form of a niche with small shelves, thanks to which it can successfully replace a chest of drawers or a cabinet in a small bathroom.

Such a screen is made from sheets of plasterboard, which are fixed to a frame assembled from wooden blocks or a metal profile. Depending on how the bathtub itself will be located, the frame can be installed either on only one side of the bathtub, or on both sides at once. The amount of materials you will need to build the screen depends on which option you ultimately choose.

In order to make such a screen for a bathtub with your own hands, you will need the drywall itself, paint, impregnations and sealants, a profile for drywall and putty.

Work should begin with marking the frame. Then you need to assemble the frame from the profile in accordance with future form screen and install it using a screwdriver and drill under the bathtub.

First of all, you need to secure the smaller part of the structure, then the larger one, and then fasten them together. After the sheets of drywall are fixed to the frame, their surface must be treated with sealant, puttied and coated with a primer. When all layers are dry, finishing work can begin.

Remember that it is necessary to provide a technological hole.

Ceramic tile screen

Ceramic tiles can be used to decorate screens made of brick, MDF or plasterboard. First you need to prime the surface, then apply putty on it and wait until it is completely dry. Then you need to thoroughly rub the surface with sandpaper and prime it again.

The tiles must be laid in exactly the same way as usual, using crosses for the seams, special glue and grout. The advantages of such a screen are its durability and decorativeness.

If you wish, you can select something interesting color combination, or you can even make sliding doors, which will be a little more expensive and more complicated.

MDF sheathing

Before installation, it is necessary to impregnate MDF boards with special impregnations, as they are afraid of moisture. Then they need to be coated with a primer and secured to the frame in the same way as gypsum board sheets.

To further protect such a screen from dampness, it is necessary to vent, which should be located away from the process door. Most often, a small slot is made for this purpose, 2-3 cm wide and 5-10 cm long. So that it does not disturb general view bathroom and is not noticeable, it must be closed with a decorative plastic grille.

You can finish the MDF screen with plastic or tiles.

Screen designed for acrylic bathtub

This type of bathtub is more fragile than a cast iron bathtub, so you need to be very careful when installing the screen. Its design is no different from the design intended for a cast iron bathtub.

Before starting installation, it is necessary to apply markings to the side of the bathtub and mark the places where the screen will be fixed.

Then the upper part should be aligned with the side of the bathtub and marks should also be applied to it, which should coincide with the marks on the side.

The screen can be attached to the bath using self-tapping screws and mounting studs.

To ensure that the entry points of the self-tapping screws are invisible, it is recommended to cover them with special plugs painted to match the bathtub. You can also build a screen from brick, although you should first make the screen itself, and only then install the bath on top of it.

PVC panel screen

To make such a screen, you will need plastic or aluminum guide profiles, standard plastic panels, screws and square pipe, the cross-section of which should be 10x10 mm.

First of all, from a pair of parallel tubes, which must be connected transversely by the same tube, it is necessary to make a frame. Position vertical racks needed depending on the size of the screen.

After painting the pipes, you need to install guides on them - attach one to the upper frame, and the other to the lower. After this, you should cut the panels and insert them into the grooves of the guides.

Screen shape

Typically, screens that are installed under the bathtub, taking into account the shape of the bathtub itself and the characteristics of the room, are made rectangular. The only exception may be screens designed for corner baths, which have a curved design.

Depending on what material the bath screen is made of, you can improve it or add some features to it.

For example, plasterboard or brick screens may have small niches for feet, which are needed to ensure that the feet do not rest against the wall. Such a niche can be either inclined or straight. Screens may also differ in the method of opening - hinged or sliding. The second option is more preferable, since in this case you will not need additional space for the doors.

How to make a sliding screen yourself?

It is best to make a sliding screen from plastic lining or PVC panels, since these materials are the easiest to work with, and the screen that is made from them is very durable.

For installation you will need a special aluminum profile, from which all door guides will be made.

First you need to install the frame on which the guides should be installed. The length of the guides should be equal to the distance between the walls or the length of the bathroom.

The doors should be secured to the frame, placing them in the first profile groove on the sides of the screen. The central part is most often made motionless and placed in the middle groove.

Using spacer bolts, the finished screen must be attached to the bathtub, and furniture handles must be installed on the movable doors.

Screens for corner baths

If you want to create a screen under corner bath with your own hands, then you need to take into account that materials such as drywall are quite difficult to bend yourself and then place on a rigid frame. Therefore, the most the best solution The screen will be made from plastic, which is relatively inexpensive, is not afraid of exposure to moisture and bends well. In addition, nowadays you can purchase plastic panels in a wide variety of shades.

First of all, you need to attach the plastic guides to the floor in the bathroom, repeating the curve of the bathtub itself. With help liquid nails needs to be attached to the top wooden blocks, which will serve to fix the upper guide.

Another screen option could be a brick screen, because the masonry can be made of any shape, and then decorated with mosaics or tiles. But such a screen must be built first, and then the bathroom must be installed on it.
