Sawdust products: garbage or new business? Natural wood chips (without coloring) What can be produced from wood chips

Sometimes money lies right under our feet, we just need to see it in time and properly master it. This is what savvy entrepreneurs do. As an example, let's take working with wood and waste from its processing - sawdust. In this article we will tell you what can be made from wood and sawdust

What can be made from wood - business ideas

Wood various breeds widespread in all regions of Russia, with the exception of some arid places or areas with unfavorable climatic conditions. But even where the tree is not mined, it can be processed.

That is why the business related to wood is quite developed in Russia. Below we will consider the most relevant areas production activities for small businesses and microenterprises.

It’s worth mentioning right away that a tree means not only an array, but also slab materials(plywood, OSB, chipboard, etc.).

Production of furniture from chipboard

This is probably the most popular implementation of business ideas made of wood. If you want to sell in large retail chains, furniture stores, etc., you will have to significantly invest in equipment, but with trained personnel there should be no problems (the complexity of the work is low).

Minimum necessary equipment(taking into account the available space for processing and storing materials / finished products):

  1. Sawing machine - from RUB 500,000 (used, without sheet feeding, two people required for maintenance).
  2. Edge maker (edge banding machine) - about 200,000 rubles. (these are manual models without automatic feeding parts, for straight edges only).
  3. Dust removal system (sawdust extractor) - about 70,000 rubles.

At first, with small volumes of orders and simple parts, the additive can be done manually with a drill, sharpening saw blades carry out for a fee in the appropriate workshops.

At woodworking enterprises and in small workshops engaged in carpentry, a lot of shavings accumulate, which everyone perceives as debris that interferes with work.

Storing it is not only cumbersome, but also dangerous, because wood shavings are highly flammable.

If on an agricultural plot raise birds or various livestock, then wood waste will be in great demand there too.

After all, they cost nothing, but with their help they create comfortable conditions for animals, which have a positive effect on their health.

The mixture of shavings and excrement is then left to rot for 2-3 months (bacteria must be added), after which they turn into high-quality fertilizer.

We discussed all these issues in more detail in the article about.

Manufacturing of building materials

Wood processing waste is a good raw material for the production of concrete, slabs and blocks with high thermal insulation properties.

Such products made from shavings are not only a way to build and insulate a home or outbuilding, but also earn money from their implementation.

Products and crafts

You can make various crafts from the shavings. This helps children develop imaginative and artistic thinking, and also instills skills in working with glue.

At the right approach from this material you can create beautiful and unique paintings and also do animal figurines.

Most likely, nothing beautiful will come out right away, but over time, children, together with their parents, will learn to create such beauty that it will arouse admiration among all spectators. We talked in more detail about various crafts made from shavings in the article.

What else can be made from wood waste?

In addition, the shavings can be used as fuel for boilers and heating systems, because in its size and calorific value it is very close to sawdust.

For those who are interested in this method of using this type of wood waste, it will be useful.

Also from any wood waste, including shavings, you can make biofuel And different kinds alcohols, what we talked about in the material.

Conclusion

Despite the fact that wood shavings are sometimes perceived as waste that interferes with the normal operation of an enterprise, they is a very valuable resource.

After reading the article, you learned how to use it for the needs of a business or individual and how to make something useful out of it, such as building materials, crafts and much more.

In contact with

We got logs, beams, boards from the tree, the slab was used for the construction of scaffolding... But what about the whips, twigs, branches, bark? Where to put the soft mountains of shavings and compacted dunes of sawdust? After all, this is also wood, and the greater the yield of finished products from it, the more profitable it is. So there is such a thing as shredded wood. Moreover, partly it is a by-product, a semi-finished product for obtaining something, and partly it is produced as a special commercial product. Shredded wood includestechnological chips, crushed wood, wood shavings, sawdust, wood dust and wood flour.

wood chips and crushed grains and products from them

It is obtained both from wood waste and from solid wood. It is used as fuel, as mulch in the garden, and to improve the taste and aesthetic qualities of food and drinks (alder for smoking, oak for aging cognacs). Process wood chips are used as raw materials in the pulp and paper industry and for the production of hydrolytic alcohol.

In construction, wood chips are used to produce wood concrete (concrete with wood - so it is warmer and you can even drive a nail into it). Wood chips are also widely used to produce building materials such as chipboard and fiberboard. The thickness of the chips for any use does not exceed 5 mm , length: greatest - upon receipt of chipboard (up to 60 mm ), the smallest is for the technological one (about 5 mm).

Using crushed wood is almost the same as using wood chipsThe difference is in the production: chips are obtained by splitting, crushed- on hammer mills and crushers.

Application of wood chips

It is usually obtained by planing, most often from soft or coniferous species.According to the production technology, two types can be distinguished: specially prepared chips and waste chips. Its dimensions depend on its purpose. For example, to pack eggs you need large chips, to pack apples you need thin and narrow ones. In general, chip sizes vary within the following limits: thickness - 0.05- 0.5 mm, width - 2-8 mm, length - 200-530 mm.

It is also used in agriculture for bedding, and in the furniture industry for the production of chipboards, and as containers and fuel. But we are more interested in construction applications: acoustic and heat-insulating cement-bonded particle boards are made from it, which are lightweight concrete, that is, wood concrete.

Sawdust and its use

Sawdust can generally be called a waste, but very valuable, raw material. And where are they not used? Cellulose, cardboard, paper, hydrolytic alcohol are also sawdust.Clean the fur, please. Bedding the livestock is no problem. You can insulate strawberries for the winter, and in rainy summers you can easily save them from sand with the help of sawdust. Getting compost or mulching the soil with sawdust is not difficult. Sawdust does a good job of filtering wastewater: it’s twice as good as activated carbon.

They are also indispensable in construction. Plates made from sawdust with shavings using the extrusive method (punching) have increased wear resistance and hardness. If xylolite waste is added to the sawdust before pressing, the slabs become fireproof and frost-resistant.

Sawdust is a good heat insulator, not necessarily in the form of a filler in mixtures and solutions, but also in a loose state. For example, mansions are now insulated this way: the internal masonry is made of porous concrete, the external one is made of brick, between them there is an air layer, usually covered with dry sawdust.

Wood dust and flour

Wood dust consists of wood particles measuring 15-20 microns. It is formed during wood processing. Although it forms during any wood processing, it is most often a by-product of sanding furniture. And although it can be used, for example, as a filler in composite materials, this does not happen often. They simply don’t want to mess with it: there is no industrial volume of its production, and in itself it is explosive.

Wood flour is produced specifically by grinding dry wood. Basically, the raw material for its production is dry shavings. Its dimensions and particle size distribution are regulated by GOST. Wood flour has found application in petrochemistry, in the production of fine ceramic filters, and in the manufacture of composites. At construction sites, its use is important for the production of grinding, polishing and dry mixtures, as well as linoleum.

It is no secret that, starting from the timber harvesting stage, a huge amount of waste is generated at all stages of wood processing. These are tree branches, tops, twigs, stumps, slabs, substandard wood, sawdust and trimmings.

Exist different ways reduce the volume of wood waste. The easiest way is to burn them, but this is ineffective and does not bring sufficient profit. Another way is to process wood waste into wood chips.

To produce wood chips, various wood chipping machines are used, which allow you to quickly crush large volumes of wood waste and obtain high-quality industrial wood chips as a result. Chip production is profitable business, capable of generating a constant income, taking into account the uninterrupted supply of raw materials.

Detailed information from the equipment manufacturer on the PRM chipping machines page

Chips - crushed wood established sizes, obtained as a result of grinding wood raw materials with chippers and special devices, used as technological raw materials or fuel.

Use of wood chips

What is made from wood chips? Wood chips has a wide range of applications. Wood chips are often used as fuel to operate gas generating units. Wood chip boilers make it possible to provide steam and heat to homes and businesses. Gas generators that can operate on wood waste are more economical. If for the production of wood chips you use not just a wood chipper, but an entire production line, which will include a chip cutter, a drum dryer, a gas generator, a sorting and packaging plant, conveyors and bunkers for feeding the material, then at the output you can get chips for smoking with low humidity , which will increase the shelf life and quality of the product. Alder chips are highly valued by smoked meat producers. Large factories producing smoked sausages, smoked fish, and smoked cheeses will be happy to cooperate with you. If you add a painting installation, you can produce colored decorative chips, which are used by specialists for landscape design and decorating lawns. Selling wood chips will allow you to receive a guaranteed profit, since this product is this moment demanded by consumers.

Wood Chip Sizing

If it is necessary to produce wood chips of a certain fraction, or to calibrate the material, then drum chip crushers equipped with removable meshes with a given mesh size are used for these purposes. This allows the production of wood chips of any given size. For example, if you specialize in making wood chips for smoking, then know that using wood chips of the same size in smokers can achieve a more consistent result. This will avoid the effect that while large chips produce smoke for smoking, small ones burn, form a flame and can spoil the product. Technological chips of the same size are also suitable for the production of building materials (wood chips for wood concrete), the homogeneity of the mass ensures high quality of the final product. Wood chip machines with sizing meshes significantly increase production capabilities.

Technological chips - chips for the production of cellulose, wood boards and products of wood chemical and hydrolysis industries. Produced from thin round wood raw materials with a diameter of 2-6 cm and a length of 1.0-3.0 m with a gradation of 0.5 m and maximum deviations length ±5 cm.

Production of wood concrete from wood chips

If you purchase equipment for wood concrete, you can open a business producing modern high-tech wood concrete wall blocks. Wood concrete blocks are made from wood chips and cement binder; construction wood concrete is safe for human health, it is lightweight, retains heat well, does not freeze, does not rot, and does not burn. Wood concrete panels are used for suburban low-rise construction of residential buildings and cottages, courtyard buildings, bathhouses, garages, storage facilities, cowsheds and poultry houses, industrial buildings. Projects arbolite houses practically no different from buildings made of brick or other types of wall blocks. Building houses from wood concrete is an excellent alternative to log houses.

Manufacturers of equipment for wood concrete offer a set of machines, which includes a wood concrete chip cutter, a mixing station, molds for wood concrete blocks of different sizes, manual rammers or tampers with a weight, a vibrating table, and a drying chamber. High quality wood chips for wood concrete guarantees a stable result, the correct proportions of wood concrete, each batch of material will be the same without deviation from the standard, which is important for construction work. High-quality wood concrete blocks are in demand on the market, this will make it easy to organize sales.

Wood chips for the production of building materials

Wood chips are also used for chipboard production, fiberboard, cardboard and paper, plywood, briquettes for heating, wood pellets and pellets, drywall. In this case, wood chips are further crushed in wood chippers to obtain a finer fraction. Using wood chips to produce the building materials we use in Everyday life allows you to significantly reduce wood consumption and reduce the volume of wood waste. If you invest in equipment, then wood chips will no longer be a waste of wood production, but will become a valuable secondary product on which you can make money and put it into business. Substandard wood and industrial chips will no longer lie as dead weight on the territory of forest industry enterprises; it is very easy to give them a second life for the benefit of society.

Wood processing makes it possible to obtain various products and materials that are wide application both in industry and in our daily lives. In addition, recycling wood waste promotes order and rationalization of use. natural resources. Therefore this topic has great importance and requires special attention.

Processing wood waste into new materials and products has many different directions. But before we begin to consider this issue, it is necessary to remember what waste from sawmilling and wood processing industries is.

Wood waste in large quantities is formed at enterprises engaged in woodworking, sleepers, sawmilling, plywood, furniture production, etc. Such waste can be presented in the form of sawdust, shavings, wood chips, twigs, greenery of trees, their roots and stumps.

Sawdust is most often used to make new products from waste. They are used to produce construction material(chip-gypsum sheets, sawdust concrete, etc.), fuel briquettes and pellets. Wood shavings is widely used in the production of chipboard, CBPB and other products used in construction.

Various wood processing wastes are used in pulp and paper mills, as well as in agriculture. From wood chips coniferous trees receive a unique material for construction - wood concrete. In addition, wood waste is used in the production of cosmetics, medicines and feed additives for animals.

Obtaining fertilizers from wood and wood waste

Everyone knows that to improve soil fertility, fertilizers of organic origin are used: manure, peat, etc. To eliminate the deficiency of organic components in infertile soils, fertilizers based on wood and wood waste can also be used.

For example, many people use sawdust to improve soil quality when growing raspberries. But using sawdust alone is ineffective.

To increase the fertility of agricultural land, it is more correct to use composts. An excellent fertilizer is obtained by composting shredded wood waste with the addition of some nutrients and microelements.

Due to various chemical substances and the good humus-forming ability of tree bark, composts are most often created on its basis. It contains large amounts of carbon, potassium and calcium.

Composting bark consists of several stages:

  1. Raw materials are crushed using hammer mills, box grinders or feed grinders (for example, Volgar-5). The size of the resulting pieces should not exceed 1 cm.
  2. The crushed mass is mixed with inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus compounds.
  3. Clusters are formed in which the compostable mixture is stored for 1.5 - 4 months. The piles are periodically turned for better aeration.

The humus obtained after composting has the properties of humus; its use in agriculture helps to increase plant productivity.

In addition, the bark can be used in a non-compostable form. It is crushed to produce mulch, which, when applied to the soil cover, impedes the growth of weeds, slows down the process of water evaporation, prevents the formation of a soil crust and reduces the difference temperature indicators soils at night and during the day.

Wood-based fertilizers can be produced different ways, only a few of them were discussed in the article.

Wood processing methods

Wood is a valuable raw material from which modern world the most different materials and products. However, not only tree trunks, but also wood waste are used for production purposes, which significantly saves resources.

The main goal that is set for wood processing enterprises today is deep processing of wood, which implies the implementation full cycle processing wood material and manufacturing new products from it.

There are several ways to process wood:

Chemical processing includes several main areas:

  • paper production at pulp and paper mills;
  • hydrolysis;
  • pyrolysis;
  • production of rosin and turpentine.

Let's consider some processes of chemical wood processing technology.

Hydrolysis. Dilute sulfuric acid is added to the crushed mass of waste, after which the mixture is heated in a boiler with steam to a temperature of 180 - 190 o C. During hydrolysis, monosaccharides, methanol, organic acids (acetic and formic), as well as a solid residue - the so-called hydrolytic lignin. The sugar-containing solution is poured out of the boiler, then the acid is neutralized with calcium hydroxide and the sediment is subsequently separated, and the resulting solution is sent to a special vat for fermentation. During the fermentation process, microorganisms transform sugars into alcohol. The result of fermentation is a 1.2 - 1.6% ethanol solution, which is sent for rectification in order to obtain pure alcohol. Ethanol is the raw material from which it is produced synthetic rubber, dyes, medicines, plastics, etc.

Pyrolysis. Wood raw materials decompose in pyrolysis plants in an airless environment at a temperature of 450 o C. As a result of pyrolysis, substances in liquid and gaseous states are obtained, as well as a solid residue - charcoal. The process begins with dividing the mass of wood (waste) into separate pieces, which are then dried. The next stage is the pyrolysis itself. Then the coal part is cooled and stabilized to prevent it from igniting. Next, the resulting vapors are condensed.

Interesting! Pyrolysis became popular already in the 19th century. Then, deciduous trees were used in the process to form the final products (acetic acid).

Nowadays, hardwood components are also mainly used for pyrolysis. For example, the result of the pyrolysis process of birch, the moisture content of which is 10-15%, is the formation of 25% coal, 50% liquid compounds (“liquid”) and approximately 23% gaseous substances.

Fraction charcoal can be sent either to direct customers or to a processing plant in order to obtain any products. The liquid residue of the process is subjected to settling, during which resin accumulates. From it they get acetic acid, methyl alcohol, aldehydes and other valuable products.

The gas mixture formed during pyrolysis consists of carbon oxides, methane and some other hydrocarbons.

Thus, comprehensive wood processing consists of obtaining high-quality solid wood, wood-based materials, wood products for different industries, chemical compounds.

Note! The profession of working with wood is still relevant today. Therefore, in our country there are many educational institutions, which train specialists in complex wood processing technologies.

Processing equipment

Equipment for different branches of production from sawdust and wood waste depends on the specific focus of the business. There are a number of the most common installations required for processing wood raw materials, consisting of:

  • low-speed shredders used to convert wood into chips with a size of 0.8-1 cm;
  • shredders that crush waste different sizes, equipped with special knives for cutting;
  • horizontal shredders;
  • briquetting presses used in the production of fuel briquettes;
  • silos designed for storing, transporting and unloading raw materials.

You can see what the installations included in the deep wood processing line look like in the following short video

Where to take wood waste for recycling

Reception of wood waste is carried out by specialized companies involved in the collection, removal and processing of wood and plant residues. It is most convenient to search for addresses of such organizations via the Internet. As a rule, large wood processing and other enterprises whose activities generate wood waste enter into an agreement with companies to process unnecessary wood residues. You can hand over such waste for money (companies buy raw materials for the purpose of their further processing).

Wood processing as a business

Wood can be used to produce a huge number of products for different areas our life activity. Therefore, processing of wood waste as a business (OKVED code 16) is promising direction entrepreneurship. Let us point out some advantages of such an activity:

  1. The relevance of the business, the absence of fierce competition in the Russian market, the presence of a cheap raw material base due to the fact that most of Wood waste is not processed in any way in our country, but simply rots.
  2. Ease of finding distribution channels for finished products, relatively quick payback, despite the high cost of the necessary equipment.

Thus, wood processing is great idea For profitable business which, with proper guidance, will be successfully implemented.

Russia is rich in forest resources. Therefore, the topic of wood processing is extremely relevant for our country. By developing business in this direction, perhaps in the near future we will be processing almost the entire volume of wood waste into useful and high-quality products without causing damage to our environment.
