Projects of houses and cottages with an attic. One-story houses with an attic (Select a project). The best projects of houses with an attic: photos with drawings

Houses with an attic and a terrace – great choice for capital and country house. The attic will allow you to organize additional space for living or storing things, the covered terrace will be a place for quiet relaxation, reading books, games or feasts. Depending on the arrangement, these two rooms will make it possible to free up the main area of the house and functionally relieve it.

Peculiarities

Building a house with an attic and a terrace involves solving certain problems. An attic is a room directly under the roof of a house, so for a comfortable organization of living space it is worth considering ventilation, heat and waterproofing.

This will eliminate the need to eliminate the consequences of excessive condensation inside, installing additional batteries, and drafts.

Since the weight of the roof finishing, interior items and furniture will put pressure on the foundation of the house, this must be taken into account at the planning stage.

If the idea of a residential attic arose later, it is better to give preference to lightweight materials. When the attic area needs to be divided, plasterboard is suitable for partitions: it is lightweight and easy to use. A living room, bedroom or office on the attic floor requires the installation of windows not only at the ends of the roof, but also on inclined surfaces.

The height of the roof and its shape is another feature of a house with an attic. This is due to the fact that for comfortable living the ceilings must be high, about 2 meters in at least half of the room. Overhanging roof made under acute angle, will create discomfort when you are in the room, and there will also be difficulties with its arrangement.

Having given preference to an attic instead of a full second floor, you need to remember that it has a smaller area and is complicated by the construction of a complex roof configuration. However, the house will definitely look more unusual, original and even cozy.

Subtleties of construction

Materials

Materials are an important component of construction. The main thing is to choose what to build the house itself from. The main factors on which the choice depends are:

  • Construction cost. It is worth drawing up a detailed estimate in order to understand where you can save money or what schemes to use to reduce costs.
  • Planned speed of work completion.
  • Exterior finishing. Building a house, for example, from foam blocks, will certainly require making it more attractive.
  • Location of the site for construction and the building itself. Uneven terrain, a house or part of it on a slope, the presence of nearby water sources and other factors limit the choice of materials.

The most popular material for construction is wood. Wooden house– an excellent choice for cold regions. Naturalness is its main advantage. This house is comfortable and cozy. It is erected quite quickly, but adherence to wood processing techniques and construction technology is required.

A significant disadvantage is the need to wait time for the log house to shrink, at least six months, depending on the climate and moisture content of the wood. During this period, it is not advisable to engage in finishing and other work.

Replaced stone brick house– very durable, warm, fireproof, does not change appearance under the influence of external factors.

You can build from it at any time of the year, and you can also change the design during the construction period.

Brick lasts up to 150 years without requiring additional maintenance. Ceramic block, a modern and cheaper option, has similar properties.

Frame technology construction is an option for those who are urgent. Perfect for a country house. Manufacturers offer frames made of wood and metal, for self-assembly and ready-made. The walls are made of sandwich panels (PVC or chipboard and insulation).

You can quickly build a house from porous blocks - foam concrete and aerated concrete. With a thickness of about 40 cm, they retain heat well, they are easy to use and cut. The size of the blocks speeds up the construction of even a large house.

Project selection

The layout of the house is the key to the full use of every square meter of the future building. There are various house designs, differing in area, type of foundation, suggesting different external types of attics and terraces. You can develop the project yourself or use ready-made options. Most often they offer houses with the following area:

  • 6x6 sq. m. A small country house, which contains a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room; they are allocated more space. The number of corridors is minimal. The attic is usually intended for a nursery or recreation area, and has one or two rooms.

  • 9x9 sq. m. There are more possibilities for organizing the first floor. Big kitchen and a dining room next to which is a living room. A small corridor to the bedroom and bathroom. Staircase with hall for greater convenience. The second floor can be divided into rooms: a nursery and an office, a small bathroom. Or a playroom for children and a relaxation room with billiards for adults.

  • 8x10 sq. m. An attic house of such an oblong shape is characterized by the placement of rooms along a long corridor or around the hall. On both floors you can arrange two bedrooms, on the first there is a combined kitchen and living room. You can make one full-size bathroom.

  • 10x10 sq. m. Usually such houses are built for large families, so it would be rational to make a spacious kitchen and dining room, several bathrooms. Place the main bedroom and dressing room on the ground floor, and make a children's room (one or two) or a guest room in the attic. In such an area, the choice of the purpose of the rooms depends on the residents and their needs for a particular room.

The terrace can be either on a common foundation or built separately, depending on its intended functionality. Its fencing, the presence of a roof and its area depend on this. If you plan to organize a place for cooking and eating food, then you should make a common foundation for the terrace with the house so that it can withstand a heavy load.

If this open space is for games, relaxing with a book, or is made only for beauty, then it is enough to build a light structure made of wood based on pillars or piles. The attic can be made under a gable or sloping roof. Choosing the latter will provide a larger indoor area, but this option will cost more.

Decor

Having finished building a house with an attic and a terrace, all that remains is to think about the decor of the premises. For a terrace, the optimal choice would be furniture suitable for the street: made of plastic or wood. Colors should be chosen to match the exterior of the house, with bright accents.

For the attic, it is better to select furniture that matches the area of the room. It should be low so as not to reduce the space. It is better to place cabinets along the walls, open shelves divided into zones. Light shades walls and ceiling will expand the room.

It’s better not to get carried away with ornaments and designs, leaving them for modest decor. The more inconspicuous and airy the filling, the more spacious it will be. Country style, chalet, Provence are excellent options for interior design.

Modern Design Ideas

Currently, many designers offer non-standard options for the appearance of houses and their arrangement. For example, you can often find houses with a balcony.

Having a balcony allows you to enjoy the nature around you and gives you the opportunity to breathe fresh air without leaving your home.

It can be equipped as an extension, provided for during the construction of the second floor by laying longer floor beams, or the roof of a permanent terrace can be used as a base. It can be made glazed or open.

The area of the balcony can also vary. In country houses, preference is given to open balconies with fencing in the form of balusters.

An innovation in the modern design of a house with a terrace and an attic is a double-sided fireplace. It is installed in such a way that one side is located on the outside of the house - the terrace, the second - inside. An excellent option for those who are making a major veranda. A fireplace can be converted into a cooking oven while adding a cozy feel to the living room or bedroom of your home.

An extraordinary solution for owners small area, where there is not enough space for a full bath, a steam room will be installed in the house itself. The room for it should be at least 2x2 square meters in size and near the bathroom. You can take as a basis Finnish project at home, it was Scandinavian designers who were among the first to use the idea of a sauna in the house.

There is an attic room various shapes and size, in order to make it a pleasant and comfortable living space, first of all, it is necessary to evaluate all its advantages and disadvantages. First you need to calculate usable area, understand how to use each meter. If the area is small, then it is better not to divide it into separate rooms with blank partitions. It is better to highlight functional areas visually. The presence of rafters will greatly facilitate this process: they can be used as a basis for shelves or mezzanines dividing the space.

Windows are of no small importance. If they have already been installed, then, depending on their location, you can understand where it will be, for example, work zone or a playroom - they need more light, and where is the bathroom or bedroom. If the roof is solid, then there is room for action, and windows are installed in the required places.

The attic is currently a very popular design for a suburban home. Such cottages allow designers to incorporate into the interior the most bold ideas. The layout of a house with an attic can combine various building materials. The broken ceiling structure, broken lines and space geometry allow you to create stylish architectural solutions.

Features of a house with an attic

When designing an attic house, a number of features should be taken into account. The most important of these is enhanced thermal insulation. Since the roof is subject to frequent and sudden temperature changes. It is also important to provide high-quality waterproofing, because there is a living space immediately under the roof.

Advice!When building an attic, preference should be given to lightweight building materials.

It is recommended to leave the space of the attic floor unified. However, if there is a need to build rooms, partitions should be erected using plasterboard. The interior and exterior of the house are wonderfully decorated with slanted windows mounted directly into the roof.

Advantages and disadvantages of attic houses

Projects of attic houses are gaining increasing popularity due to a number of advantages:

  • ergonomic use attic space almost doubles the usable area of the house;
  • easily accessible communications that are very easy to lift from the lower floor;
  • retaining heat that could previously escape through an unheated attic;
  • during the addition of an attic floor in an already finished house, residents do not have to move, remaining to live on the first floor;
  • besides living rooms, the attic can be equipped as an office, gym, billiard room;

Like any building, in addition to its advantages, a house with an attic also has disadvantages that must be taken into account during construction:

  • excessive savings and failure to comply with basic safety rules when choosing materials can lead to overload and destruction of load-bearing walls;
  • skylights built into the roof are not a cheap pleasure;
  • snowy winter disrupts supply natural light on attic floor.

Construction of an attic house

Layout of a house with an attic is an important stage in construction. If the recommendations and design rules are properly followed, you will get a comfortable, well-equipped cottage.

  1. Calculation of bearing load. Before you start building an attic in an already inhabited house, you need to carefully make calculations. Overloading the base and load-bearing walls houses, cracks may appear in them, which will lead to the destruction of the house. Bearing structures Dwellings must be carefully strengthened.
  2. Calculation of the height of the attic floor. Typically, the most optimal minimum height from ceiling to floor is 2500mm.
  3. Choice correct design roofing will allow maximum use of the attic area. A gable roof will add only 67% of the area to living quarters, while a broken roof will add 90%. If the living space is doubled, it will be necessary to raise the walls by 1.5 meters in height.
  4. Communications of the first and second floors must be combined into a single system.
  5. The correct location of the stairs will add usable space.

Advice! The space under the stairs can be used as a storage room. This technique will help you effectively use the space you occupy. staircase structure square. The small space of such a pantry can accommodate packed seasonal items, canned food for the winter, or just a vacuum cleaner with an ironing board.

  1. Compliance with fire safety requirements will be important.

Typical layout of an attic house

The ready-made convenient layout of an attic cottage is widely represented on the construction market. When independently designing a house with an attic, it is important to take into account a number of rules, regulations and recommendations of specialists.

Important! You should not proceed with direct construction without a clear plan and drawing indicating exact dimensions.

Using computer planning programs will greatly facilitate the task of drawing up detailed floor plans. Most often on the attic floor there is an office, a billiard room, winter Garden or workshop. The bedrooms can be arranged very comfortably. The difference in ceiling height gives the bedroom a romantic feel.

Typical design of a timber house with an attic: layout 6x6 m

Based on the size, it is clear that the layout was designed for a small country house. The total area of the project is approximately 50 square meters, which is quite enough for non- big family. The advantage of a small house made of timber is:

  • ease of construction;
  • savings on utility costs;
  • saving useful area of the garden plot.

The correct layout and functional use of the entire area of the country attic house will make you feel free and spacious.

Some tips for equipping a house with a 6x6 m layout:

  1. A properly organized hallway space will help relieve the entire house from being overloaded with things. Built-in wardrobes and mezzanines will allow you to store seasonal items and shoes.
  2. A kitchen-studio, combined with the living room into a single space, will save a lot of usable space. This is where it would be advisable to construct a staircase opening.
  3. A bathroom combined with a toilet will also effectively save space. In this room you can install a shower stall, which will visually divide the space into several useful zones.
  4. The terrace in front of the house will visually increase the space of the house.

Idea!In addition to timber projects, the construction of a frame garden house will also be very successful.

Also quite a popular standard layout is a sauna house with an attic. It contains all the rooms necessary for life quite ergonomically.

House layout 9x9 m with attic

The plan of the second floor of a 9x9 m house with an attic can be represented not only by a single space, but also by many separate rooms and a bathroom. House size 9x9 is the most common and affordable option. The classic layout of the first floor of an attic house includes a kitchen, hallway, living room, spacious bathroom and one bedroom. The second floor can accommodate up to four rooms and a small bathroom with shower. This layout is very dependent on the roof structure.

The design of the house made of 9x9 timber allows it to easily accommodate a family of four people. Utility costs will also not be too high. The typical layout of a frame building with an attic offers many options for efficient use of space. The attic floor can be visually lengthened by placing the balcony on support beams. And under the balcony you can place a cozy summer terrace.

The shape of typical houses with an attic with a total area of approximately 150 square meters can be rectangular with dimensions of 8x10 m.

House layout 10x10 m with attic

The most popular layouts of a frame attic house, or a cottage made of timber, are presented in size 10x10m. This is the most spacious architectural solution. From the outside the house doesn't look very big. But the interior space is quite spacious. The attic greatly increases the size of this layout, even when constructing a gable roof, and accommodates many more rooms. On the second floor there are usually bedrooms or children's rooms. On the ground floor there is a living room, a spacious bathroom with a bath and shower, a separate kitchen or kitchen-studio, a very spacious corridor or hall, with a well-organized flight of stairs.

Important! The treads of the stairs can be organized with many drawers for storing small and rarely used items.

The construction of a frame house or cottage from timber measuring 10x10m is associated with a number of features that must be taken into account:

  • there should be a bathroom on each floor;
  • provide a boiler room, laundry room and storage room;
  • when choosing square standard layout carefully consider the location of the bedrooms;
  • thin walls of the second floor should be insulated with sound-absorbing materials;
  • the roof must be equipped with barriers for snow melting.

Staircase to the attic floor

A staircase is an element that must be designed at the stage of constructing the foundation of a house, and must be included in the design of a frame house or cottage made of timber. It is important to correctly position the doors of the rooms on landing attic floor. Each door should swing open freely, without colliding or coming into contact with other interior elements. Height stairwell calculated based on the design features of the roof. Open areas of the second floor must be protected by balusters and railings.

Attic - increasing living space

The design of an ordinary frame house can be significantly improved by constructing an attic from timber. This combination of different architectural textures gives the exterior originality, comfort and individuality. The construction of an attic on an already completed residential building can significantly increase the space. The location of the additional rooms creates comfortable living for families with people of different generations - children and the elderly.

To attic house made of timber to be warm in winter and cool in summer, it is necessary to ensure high-quality thermal insulation of the roof.

It is recommended to lay the selected insulation under roofing decking, observing the rules for installing thermal insulation and vapor barrier materials. In addition to the installation of ready-made thermal insulation materials, it is recommended to fill the space between the roof and the attic ceiling with gravel or expanded clay. This will create an air cushion that will allow the house to remain cool in the summer and warm in the winter. In addition to the roof, the attic also has gables. Built from lightweight building materials, they can poorly protect the house from the cold. Therefore, it is recommended to insulate the gable walls from the outside with expanded polystyrene, which cuts off cold air and is a good heat insulator. Proper insulation attic and attic ceiling

Interior of a house with an attic

The plan of the simplest attic house made of timber makes it unique. Individual architectural forms distinguish the exterior of a building from a mass of the same type. Designers pay special attention to the interior. After all, the unusual shapes of the attic allow you to introduce unusually bold solutions into the design. It could be a loft, country, chalet, or hi-tech.

Roof windows add a special charm to room lighting. Properly decorated with textiles, they softly fit into any interior style. It is convenient to place built-in furniture or wardrobes around the perimeter. Some tips for arranging the attic and arranging furniture:

  • if a gable roof was chosen when choosing a project, the placement of standard frame furniture will be problematic;
  • natural and artificial lighting must be carefully considered;
  • feel free to use the difference in room height to arrange furniture.

Often workshops or offices are located on the attic floor. Placing furniture and creating a functional working atmosphere is the task of the designer. When designing your workshop space yourself, you should provide plenty of drawers and shelves for storage. If there is an art workshop or a seamstress' office on the attic floor, care should be taken to ensure that as much natural light as possible penetrates into the room. When creating a billiard room on the attic floor, roof windows do not need to be installed. Avoiding too much sunlight will prevent the felt on your pool tables from fading.

Attic in eco-style

Construction process own home on a separate site is not only a labor-intensive process, it also requires clear planning. You need to think through literally everything, from a clear idea of what exactly the house will be like, to small details like nails that will be used during construction and repairs.

When starting to develop a plan, you must first decide on the number of floors of the house, as well as the location of the main functional rooms. Often the choice stops at one-story houses, and here the question arises of how to increase the area. So the choice falls on one-story houses with an attic, which expands the living space functional area, and also adds sophistication to the home.

Don’t forget that installing an attic does not require large financial investments; it’s enough to plan gable roof.

Features and Benefits

Choosing a project for a cottage or country house is not an easy task. But if the choice was made in favor of a house with an attic, it must be remembered that such a house, like any other, has its own characteristics, which during construction and interior decoration definitely needs to be taken into account.

The most important aspect you need Take into account when building an attic, this is the arrangement of increased thermal insulation of the room. It is necessary to first look at various designs of houses with an attic.

Since the living space of the attic is located directly under the roof itself and is not protected by additional beams and ceilings, as is the case with the construction of an additional floor. At the same time, the roof is in direct contact with the external environment and experiences temperature changes and spontaneous changes. No one wants rain, snow or cold winds to blow in the room. That is why the issues of heat and waterproofing of the room will play one of the dominant roles when arranging a house with an attic.

Also, attic houses have the following feature: most often it is a single space, not divided into separate rooms. If separation is necessary, it is important to use only lightweight materials. You can install plasterboard partitions, but under no circumstances use concrete or bricks to build improvised walls, this can negatively affect the entire structure of the house.

You can diversify the room with the help of windows built into the roof. Such windows will be inclined structures, which will not only give an interesting visual effect, but will also allow the rays of the sun to penetrate the room at a rather interesting angle and create interesting effects.

Taking into account all the features, houses with an attic are gaining increasing popularity. Today, such houses can be found in large cottage villages, and in private sectors in cities, as well as in villages and in separate spots even in gardens.

Houses with an attic have a number of undeniable advantages that make them so popular:

  • Using the attic as part of the living space increases the living area and usable space buildings in most cases at least one and a half times. At the same time, there is no need to spend tidy sums on the design and construction of the second floor, while getting almost the same area.

  • Connecting all the necessary communications, be it a pipeline or electrical connections, will not require huge labor costs. All this can be easily lifted from the ground floor.
  • Since the attic has additional heat and waterproofing, it prevents cold air from entering the first floor, which could happen when using the upper part of the house as an attic, without additional insulation.

  • If the house is already ready, but the residents decide to complete the attic space, there is another advantage of this design. There is no need to move during the renovation and empty the entire room of furniture and interior decoration, because renovation work will not affect the first floor, they will take place exclusively in the attic, affecting the roof.
  • The rebuilt space can easily be used not only as a living space, as a room, but also turned into a gym, billiard room, library, cinema, or come up with your own special purpose for this space.

However, for all the advantages of such a building, one should not forget about the existing disadvantages of this type of premises. Knowing these nuances will help not only keep your home intact and gain important functional space, but also protect yourself and your loved ones during use.

  • During construction, you should not skimp on materials: poor quality or incorrectly selected materials during construction and finishing can lead to negative consequences, including the collapse of the structure.

  • Also, you should not overload the floor, which is why heavy walls, partitions and coverings are not erected here. You should also not use furniture that is too massive; this can also lead to the destruction of supporting structures.
  • It is also worth remembering: despite the fact that the attic is a much less expensive undertaking than the second floor, the use of inclined windows built into the roof in the construction will still require quite a large investment.
  • And in winter, it is worth taking care of additional lighting of the space, since snow can block the flow of natural daylight through window openings.

Selection of materials

The construction of a house with an attic has its own clear algorithm of actions, following which you can obtain a high-quality product in the shortest possible time and at the lowest cost.

So, there is the following list of steps that will help build a high-quality attic:

  • The defining starting point in the creation process will be drawing a project plan for construction. All the main nuances of the future construction should be noted here.
  • The second stage is advisable in the case when the attic is attached to an already finished building. In this case, it is necessary to dismantle the previous roof, which will allow further construction works for finishing.

  • Next, it is necessary to strengthen the ceiling, as well as the foundation, if required by the project. At the same stage, the walls on the lower floor should be strengthened, this will also avoid the collapse of the building if its maximum permissible weight is exceeded.
  • After this, you can proceed directly to building the walls. Here you need to check every centimeter, clearly understanding what result you need to achieve in the final.

  • As soon as the construction of the walls is completed, you can proceed to the construction of the roof and ceilings. After the roof is in place, at the same stage it is necessary to create hydro- and thermal insulation.

Here you need to use the highest quality materials, since not only the safety of things located in the attic will depend on them, but also the overall temperature of the entire house, at proper organization heat-insulating material You can save a lot on heating your home.

It is also necessary to take care of the interior decoration of the room. Most often, wooden panels or other materials of suitable properties and textures are used.

  • After the roof is ready, you can begin installing window structures, if required by the initial project plan. They can be either inclined or straight, depending on the design decision, but they must be installed as correctly as possible and equipped with sealed fasteners that do not allow cold air into the space.
  • Well, the final stage in the construction will be carrying out interior finishing work and arranging furniture according to the plan.

By following this simple list of steps, you can get a reliable and durable building that meets even the most unusual needs of residents.

One of the most difficult stages is the creation of a project plan, since the development of the plan includes the most complex process of selecting materials.

Properly selected materials for the attic must meet the following basic requirements:

  • They must be durable. After all, the building must maintain its original condition for many, many years, since a house is still a long-term building, and rebuilding it every 5-6 years is too expensive and impractical.
  • In addition to durability, the selected material should also be light enough so as not to create additional load on the foundation, especially if it was not initially strengthened. In addition, there are materials that can reduce the load on the base and lower floors.

Since the construction process at the first stage determines the construction of the walls, the choice of material for them is a priority task. So, most often timber or wood is used for walls. This choice is determined by the fact that often a cottage or country house are built from logs or logs, which are the most popular materials for houses of this kind.

Besides, It is advisable to use aerated concrete or gas silicate blocks. This material is lighter than standard concrete, and the construction process is quite simple. To build thin dividing partitions inside the attic, it is better to use ordinary drywall, which also belongs to the category of lightweight materials for construction.

Next, you need to decide on the material that can be used to insulate the space being built. The most common option is mineral wool or polystyrene foam.. These are also fairly lightweight materials, the use of which does not require large financial costs, and at the same time they are easy to attach, and the insulation effect will be quite high.

In some cases, the most ordinary sheet foam with sufficient thickness is used; it can also protect the room from too serious a decrease in temperature.

There are two main requirements for interior finishing material. It must be non-flammable and also have a high degree of waterproofing; it is this factor that will protect the room from the negative influence of moisture from the street and its penetration inside.

Here you can use special plastic panels or drywall for wall finishing.

When choosing a roofing material, it is necessary to take into account the fact that it must have excellent water-repellent impregnation, which will also help protect against leaks and damage to the interior of the attic.

The roofing material can be chosen based on personal preferences and, of course, the color preferences of the home owner. So, you can opt for metal tiles or corrugated sheets.

Ideas for different areas

It is worth starting construction only if you have a clear construction plan in hand, a drawing of the future house indicating the exact dimensions, selected materials, outlining the arrangement of furniture and, if necessary, partitions that will divide the attic into several rooms.

Today on the construction market you can easily find ready-made standard designs of houses with attics for completely different sizes and purposes. So, usually in the attic there is a cozy office or reading area, a billiard room or a gym; a relaxation area or bedroom would also be an excellent option. The bedroom looks especially interesting, since sloping ceilings and sloping windows add special romance and special charm to the room.

If you plan to independently develop a plan, it is advisable to use special computer programs; they will help you make more accurate calculations and immediately see a version of the final result, which will help you evaluate it already in the process of developing the layout.

If you turn to specialists and choose already ready plan on the market, you can find projects for houses with the following overall dimensions frame: 6x6, 7x8, 6x9, 8x8, 10x10, 10 by 12, 6x4, 6x7 m.

However, among them there are options that are in greatest demand; for them there are also some features and rules.

Typical one-story house with dimensions 6x6 m- This is an excellent example of a small garden house or summer cottage on a summer cottage. The area of this option will be about 50 square meters in total.

Among the advantages of this option, the following important aspects can be highlighted:

  • Firstly, these dimensions will be quite sufficient for the rest of an ordinary average family.
  • Secondly, this option is the least expensive financially, since it requires less consumption of materials, and the plan itself will cost less.

  • If the plot area is small, a house of this size will help save usable space for planting plants or arranging a garden area.
  • Another advantage is that such a house will initially require less heating and other utility costs.

You can also highlight a few tips that will help expand the space and add comfort to your finished home. For example, to save useful space, you can easily combine some functional areas in one room. It is advisable to combine the bathroom and toilet, while it is not necessary to install a full-fledged bathtub, you can limit yourself to a high-quality shower, which, due to its design, will create the effect of different zones.

Also you can connect the kitchen and dining room or living room. This will also save space and correct layout and the arrangement of furniture will bring coziness to the room.

If you organize it in the hallway correct zone storage, you can avoid cluttering other functional zones, which will also help expand the usable space.

House size 9x9 m is also a fairly popular and sought-after layout option. It would be advisable to build 2 floors here. The foundation of such a house is initially stronger and can withstand greater loads than a 6x6 m foundation.

The classic distribution of functional areas in a house of 150 square meters and with a layout of 9x9 m is as follows: on the ground floor there is most often an entrance hall, a bathroom, a kitchen, a living room, and also, if desired, one bedroom; in principle, the first floor is a standard set of the most necessary premises. On the second floor you can place several guest rooms or an additional bedroom, an office, a gym, a library, a game room and other spaces at the request of the resident.

In addition, such a house usually requires a narrow porch and balcony; this will help visually lengthen the space, especially if the porch and balcony overhang are connected by beams.

This construction option is also suitable for an average family, but guests can easily be accommodated here. Utilities will also not require large expenses. Besides, If you choose the right thermal insulation materials, you can save significantly on heating.

For building a cottage, the most popular size is a log house 10x10 m. It can be used to build both one-story and three-story structures.

Here you can give free rein to your imagination and think through the arrangement of functional areas in completely different combinations and options.

This is the size most often used in construction. This is due to the fact that externally the house is quite small in size and easily fits on any average plot, while the internal capacity is quite high.

Here you can place several bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a bathroom, a dining room, a library and any other necessary rooms. In addition, if such a house has more than one floor, with the correct organization of stairs, you can organize storage spaces right in the steps, which will significantly save space and help avoid clutter.

When choosing this layout option, you need to take into account some features. For example, on each floor it is necessary to place a separate toilet room, and also take care of a place for a boiler room, which will help save money on utility bills.

Besides, taking into account larger area and number of storeys, it is important to additionally strengthen the foundation of the house, significantly strengthen the floors and walls of the lower floors, and also take care of a special waterproofing impregnation or layer of material for the roof space.

However, when choosing any of the above sizes, it is worth remembering that There must be a staircase leading to the attic; There are, of course, options when there is a hatch in the ceiling through which one enters the attic ladder, still this is not the most convenient option. So, if you plan to build a full-fledged staircase leading to the attic floor, it is important to initially include this building in the project plan.

The staircase should not impede the opening or closing of doors, block passages, or otherwise impede movement in the house.

Popular design options

The layout of the attic space has a rather complex shape for arranging residential premises. The slope of the roof, the special shape of the windows, the presence of beams and special interior decoration - all this dictates special room design options. This can be both a plus and a minus.

So, the attic is always a fairly secluded space; movement throughout the entire area in full height is quite limited, but at the same time you can create a unique romantic design. Transform a sometimes dirty and cluttered space into a magical corner for sleeping, working, relaxing or other activities.

The choice of purpose for the future room will largely be determined by the angle of inclination of the ceiling group, as well as the location of the windows. One of the most common options for arranging a room with the lowest possible ceilings is to place a bedroom there.

This choice is due to the fact that while in the bedroom, a person spends most of the time in a horizontal position, which means uneven distribution the ceiling will not affect the comfort of being in this space. On the contrary, low ceilings will add romance and intimacy to the bedroom, and sloping windows will allow you to admire the starry sky, which will add even more charm to a secluded corner for lovers.

The space is usually decorated using a classic style. Simple furniture, light colors will help visually expand the space. When choosing materials, you must remember: if the space has very small dimensions, it is better to abandon large prints and too dark colors. If you want to add dark colors, it is better to limit yourself to some small dark accents.

It is better to start the interior arrangement with the most necessary large pieces of furniture, such as a bed and a chest of drawers, or a linen closet, but if there is still space left, you can complement the composition bedside tables, chairs or other necessary elements.

With very low ceilings, you can arrange a Japanese-style bedroom, a tatami bed, which will be located almost on the floor, light colors and a minimum of furniture will help create a comfortable and at the same time bright interior.

One of the most simple solutions consider arranging a living room in the attic. However ceilings that are too low will not allow you to create the right interior. It is better to place the living room in a fairly large room, where the ceilings have a higher rise than in the bedroom.

The living room initially involves more movement and furniture, so the height of the ceiling here plays a dominant role.

Light colors in the decoration, light or transparent furniture, windows with a bay window - all this will provide air and additional light in the space.

When selecting accessories, you must ensure that they are in the same style, otherwise the integrity of the room will be lost and all efforts will be pointless.

When creating the perfect living room, you can turn to different design solutions and choose a style that will harmonize with the rest of the rooms in the house.

The most common styles are:

  • Classic. The most sophisticated option that does not lose its popularity. Luxurious, but at the same time elegant furniture, soft deep colors, a full-fledged chandelier, heavy curtains - these will be the distinctive features of a living room in a classic style. The use of corner sofas can also be considered a characteristic feature of a classic interior.

  • Provence will help create a gentle and romantic atmosphere in the attic of a frame house. Light natural shades, floral prints, light furniture made from natural materials, these elements can create a space in the Provence style. This option would be an excellent solution for a house with a veranda.
  • High tech will require the so-called shine. Chrome and steel parts, and other elements with a reference to technical progress will add zest and create a tie to a certain style decision.

  • In addition, it is popular minimalism style, since the space is usually small, a minimum of furniture, the absence of massive decorations and excessively large bright spots will be an excellent solution for this type of room.

You can also place a kitchen or dining room under the roof. However, this project cannot be implemented spontaneously; the layout must be included in the initial design of the building, since the kitchen requires special communications. The supply of water, electricity, and, if necessary, also gas, requires special communication with the source of a particular benefit.

So, most often communication with the basement is required, because this is where the boiler room is often located, which will be the distribution center.

In addition, care must be taken to use only non-combustible materials in the interior decoration of the room, since the hob will be placed in that part of the room where the slope of the roof forms the lowest point. When choosing furniture, you can give preference to modules and options for L-shaped blocks, which will help create the most comfortable workspace and will not overload the room.

In the process of building an attic space for a kitchen, you must immediately think about sufficiently large windows, since natural light will be the best option for such a space.

Uneven ceiling heights and wall reliefs can be an excellent help for creating perfect interior children's room, it gives additional features decor. You can define several functional zones for play, study, and sleep.

In addition, high-mounted slanted windows are the safest option for a nursery, and the height of the ceiling will not hinder the movements of its little owner; he will have his own world, into which adults are not allowed.

Often the attic becomes a full-fledged library or office. This is probably due to the privacy and comfort that can be obtained from this space. Arrangement of shelves with books on the walls, comfortable armchair, a good lamp - this is what an ideal library consists of, and if you add a table here, you get a full-fledged office for work.

You can equip a space under the roof for a dressing room, this will help save space in the house and get rid of bulky cabinets. Here you can place racks for shoes, a wardrobe for clothes and linen, as well as place several large mirrors, in front of which you can spin, dressing up in this or that outfit from your wardrobe.

How to calculate everything?

Calculating a roof for an attic has its own characteristics; it is much higher than usual, which means it requires more detailed and special calculations. Along with the height of the roof, the angle of the slope and the height of the ridge increase. A detailed plan - a drawing of the roof structure - will help you avoid mistakes, but it’s better to entrust the calculations to professionals or use a special online calculator, which is designed to help make correct calculations.

Calculations must begin by determining the total area of the attic. This indicator will directly depend on the total area of the house, as well as on the design features of the roof.

The attic area will consist of two main indicators. These include the useful zone and the so-called blind zone. It is logical that a useful area is simply a place where you can move around less comfortably, which means this is usually the middle of the room; you can also call a useful area all places where the wall height exceeds 90 centimeters. Accordingly, lower indicators can be attributed to the blind zone.

These areas are usually used for storing things and placing some low furniture, since the movement of people in them is extremely inconvenient, and sometimes even impossible.

Therefore, at the planning stage, the roof slope must be distributed so that the resulting blind areas are as small as possible; a specialist architect or an online calculator can also help here.

To obtain the most accurate calculation using the program, you must enter the roof slope, the number of slopes, as well as the selected roof shape in the fields provided.

Today, the following roof shape options are determined:

  • Shed roof. The most simple design, it is created by laying a roof on walls that are at different heights. However, despite the fact that this is one of the cheapest models, using it for the attic is not the best The best decision, since this placement results in too large a blind area.

  • Gable. An equally simple and economical option, but much more suitable for a typical attic, since such a roof forms a fairly high middle part.
  • Hip type roof. This option is most suitable for homes large area. In addition, it resists winds and other natural influences well, which makes the hip option the most preferable and safe.

In addition to these standard structures, some varieties are also used; their choice will depend on the purpose of the building, as well as on its shape and size. Thus, semicircular roofs are used for hangars, and hipped roofs for large square houses.

So, having decided on the type of roof, you can begin the basic calculations.

The following indicators will be involved:

  • Roof ridge height. This is the highest point of the roof that is used in the structure, so for example, for a gable roof, the ridge height would be the measurement of the height to the highest midpoint. And the room in the house project with one pitched roof, will have its highest point on the side of the taller wall.

  • Roof weight. This is the second indicator that should also be taken into account when calculating. This item is calculated using the amount specific gravity 1 square weight of roofing, insulation, elements rafter system, as well as interior decoration. According to the rules, the weight should not exceed 50 kilograms per 1 square meter.
  • Total area of roof slopes. Here, to determine the indicator, you need to multiply the length by the width of the roof surface. If the roof consists of several slopes and elements, it is necessary to calculate the perimeter of each roof element, and then add up the result.

The resulting measurements must be entered into similar cells of the online calculator and obtain the calculations necessary for construction. However You should not unconditionally trust the online assistant, most often this calculation is approximate, and it can only be used to purchase the required amount of materials; no one can perform an accurate calculation better than a professional architect.

We create harmony between interior and exterior

To obtain harmonious interior and the exterior of the attic, it is necessary to carefully select materials and combine them correctly. So, the outside of the attic must have cladding made of the same material as the whole house, otherwise it will stand out, creating dissonance in the appearance of not only the attic, but also the house as a whole.

Inside, beautiful interiors will depend on correct selection finishing materials.

When finishing the ceiling, it is important to take into account the nuances of the structure, the quality and type of roof, and the shape of the roof. It is best to opt for sheets of drywall or lining. These materials are not only suitable for almost any chosen design option, since they can be painted, pasted and mounted various elements decor, but also have additional waterproofing, which is an excellent option for finishing the attic.

An excellent option for the ceiling is also wallpapering, but it’s better to first sew up the ceiling with sheets of plasterboard, so pasting will be more convenient and easier than on rough finishing internal space roofs.

Wood is most often used in wall decoration. Lining or wooden panels create not only a unique interior, but also a connection with external finishing at home, which is certainly an interesting solution.

If you want to create more classic interior, you can cover the walls with wallpaper, but here you need to remember that too dark color can hide the volume of the room, and attics are usually small anyway. Therefore, it is better to opt for white or beige options.

The floor is also subject to special requirements; in the event of unpleasant incidents with the attic, such as flooding during rain, it is called upon to create additional protection for the lower floor. Therefore, in addition to the finishing that will create the appearance, it is also necessary to take care of internal heat, noise and waterproofing. But on top you can use various wood coverings, A good option would be parquet or laminate, there is also a type of lining for the floor. You can put a fluffy carpet on the floor.

Harmony between the internal and external appearance of the attic can be achieved with the help of properly selected windows. One of distinctive features The attic is the presence of a large amount of natural light, so windows are almost the first priority when building an attic.

If you want to place not one, but several windows in a room, you should choose one wall and install them on it.

Windows can be completely various sizes, however, it is worth remembering that the maximum size of the window will depend on the length of the roof slope, because it cannot exceed this measurement.

Today there are several options for attic windows on the market:

  • Vertical – standard option, which is installed in a straight attic wall, as a rule, it is located on the face or end of the house.
  • Sloping ones are installed directly into the roof slope, which allows you to get an interesting effect.
  • In addition, there is a window option for flat roofs.

All windows can be made of different materials, can be equipped with a different number of sashes and installed in different planes, ideally combining the interior decoration of the room with its external arrangement.

Spectacular examples for inspiration

Decor country house with an attic can be done in one color or combine several different shades, the main thing is that they match in tone. Highlighting the attic with a different shade will help create a special effect.

Country or garden house the mansard type most often has a gable roof and a pronounced slope triangular shape, the use of dark wood beams for decoration will help to highlight the shape of the roof and its uniqueness.

On private plots you can often find a cottage with an attic that opens onto a ledge with a balcony; this move can also create an interesting effect, especially in combination with a porch, which are combined into a single group using wooden columns.

Over time, many come to the understanding that a private house is better than an apartment, even a small one. It is much more pleasant to live somewhere near a forest or on the banks of a river, away from the bustle of the city, noise and dust. You can arrange the house to your taste, think through everything to the smallest detail. Houses with an attic can be especially cozy and original. You can come up with projects for such small houses yourself or seek help from specialists. Moreover, there can be a lot of different options.

Peculiarities

If a decision has been made to build a house, but there is no clear understanding of what it should be like, making your dream come true begins with a visit to a design company, whose specialists will help you navigate and offer the best options. Most likely, you will have to visit several organizations, compare prices and offered conditions. Perhaps in the process of discussions a design for the premises will be born. Neighbors and friends who live in country houses and have experience in building and designing small houses with an attic can suggest something.

There are many nuances when building private houses. The successful operation of the house directly depends on whether the roof and foundation are built correctly, how the walls are laid out, and whether the entire structure is well insulated. All this needs to be thought through at the design level.. Otherwise, over time, the house will begin to give out surprises, and correcting errors will take time, effort and money.

Most often, small house designs include a kitchen, living room and utility rooms on the ground floor. The second floor usually houses a bedroom, an office, and a children's room. The option when you can go out to the balcony from the attic looks tempting. But its arrangement can be expensive. Such a step would be justified if the site for the house is very small and there is no extra space for arranging a cozy corner.

If space allows, it is better to arrange a recreation area on the ground. And the price will be cheaper, and there are much more possibilities in choosing the design.

Projects

For little summer cottages and country houses The attic is an excellent opportunity to get additional space, inside which you can arrange any room for permanent residence.

The attic is located under a pitched roof, so when designing, you need to take into account that its height is not too small, at least in the lowest part it should be one and a half meters, and the highest point should not be lower than two meters. Otherwise, it will be a very low room, which may cause discomfort. It will be unpleasant to be in such a room, certainly for an adult.

When planning construction, it must be taken into account that attic rooms must have a sufficient amount of natural light and air flow, which means that full windows must be provided there. Of course, this room also needs full insulation and ventilation.

Designers are always on the side of creating an attic floor in small houses. After all, from this compact room, if you have a creative eye and artistic talent, you can make a real masterpiece. And the outside of the house can be decorated in such a way that it becomes a decoration of the site.

An interesting solution would be to install large windows V attic bedroom. Then at night, before going to bed, you can enjoy the view of the starry sky, and during the day watch the clouds float across the sky. In a word, such option will do for romantic natures.

Very suitable option for people who work a lot at home, create an office. The space under the roof is quite enough to place everything you need, and most importantly, such privacy is very convenient, nothing will distract you from work.

The attic is also suitable for arranging a children's room, especially if there are two children of approximately the same age in the family. They will not be bored there, but even interested, if they also come up with a good design and functionality for this room.

The worst idea is to turn the attic into a simple attic, where unnecessary rubbish is gathering dust, which simply cannot be reached to get rid of it. The second extreme is also inappropriate, when small space they are trying to cram several narrow, small and therefore uncomfortable rooms.

So, when thinking through a house project, there is a reason to weigh everything well, and you may draw not just one project, but several at once.

Materials

What to build a house from, each owner decides individually, depending on his financial capabilities.

Advantage brick houses Obviously, they are more durable, durable, and easy to use. But brick is one of the most expensive materials.

Frame houses are especially popular, especially when it comes to a country house. Frame structure You can even assemble it yourself in just a few weeks. After all, all the details of such a structure are adjusted at the factory, which facilitates its assembly.

Another advantage of a frame house is that it does not shrink, which means that after the construction of such a structure, you can immediately move in and at the same time continue finishing work in the premises.

The wood from which the frame is made is necessarily treated with an agent against fungus and mold, so there is no need to worry about the occurrence of these troubles.

Frame houses also have their disadvantages.

  • Poor sound insulation. In order to not be disturbed by any noise from the street, you will have to think about an additional system using modern materials.
  • This house is not suitable for those places where there are hurricane winds, there is a risk of damage to structures.
  • The walls of such a house “do not breathe,” which means you need to take care of ventilation and carefully consider its design.

Materials suitable for this type of structure are foam concrete or aerated concrete. Both materials are considered lightweight and durable, but have their own differences that you need to be aware of before choosing one over the other.

  • They are made using different technologies. Aerated concrete is inferior to foam blocks in terms of moisture absorption. In winter, when it's cold, this can lead to destruction of the walls. But, on the other hand, any surfaces are treated with a primer or covered with a facing material.
  • But aerated concrete, according to experts in the construction field, is considered a more durable material than foam concrete.
  • From an environmental point of view, both materials are considered safe for use in the construction of residential buildings.
  • When shrinking, a foam concrete wall may crack; this will not happen with aerated concrete. But foam concrete retains heat better.
  • As for the price, foam concrete can save about 20% of construction costs.

When building a house with an attic, you must definitely think about reliable arrangements ceiling structures, treating wood with appropriate compounds, paying attention to roof insulation, don’t forget to build comfortable stairs leading to the second floor.

Beautiful examples

The attic floor does not have to be intended for bedrooms. There are a variety of options design solutions. For example, you can equip a wonderful gym there for the whole family, which will bring great health benefits. There may also be a spacious bathroom with a large bath and shower. It all depends on the choice of the owner.

Photos and projects of various options; it should be borne in mind that such a solution has both advantages and disadvantages. There are more of the former, which is why the attic floor is very popular. However, we should not forget about the disadvantages, which are especially noticeable if the space in the lower part of the building is sufficient for the people living in it.

Advantages of houses with an attic floor

The advantages of a building with an attic include:

  • increasing space in the house. So, for a plan size of 6 by 8 m, the attic floor will no longer allow you to get 48 square meters. m of area, and from 70 to 80;
  • the possibility of using it only in the summer. Yes, even projects country houses with an attic and will provide this area in winter and additional space for relaxation (or creativity) in summer;
  • insignificant expenditure of time and money. A house with an attic is built faster, does not require too much strength and the same amount of materials as a two-story building.

It is impossible not to note the aesthetic characteristics of such design solution. Improved with the help of an attic. And from the inside, the room looks more original than an ordinary room - due to the sloping ceiling and the almost complete absence of walls.

Disadvantages of the option

The disadvantages of the attic include changes in the design that are required when choosing this option:

  • the need, and, therefore, a more durable ceiling first floor - the same as for a two-story building;
  • increased requirements for thermal insulation of such a floor - if the attic is not made for a summer house, but for a full-fledged residential building, it needs to be insulated in the same way as the lower part of the building. For use in the cold season, this area must be;
  • conducting communications – first of all, and . This will make the attic floor truly residential.

Certain difficulties arise when decorating attic floors. Moreover, sloping walls can be not only a plus, but also a minus. They do not allow for placement along them, gluing or most other types of finishing. And some psychologists claim that living in rooms with an angled ceiling causes a feeling of discomfort.

Projects of a one-story house with an attic: photo

The project of a house with an attic floor is optimal solution for the owner of a small country house or. The same option is also suitable in cases where the characteristics of the territory do not allow increasing the area of the building due to the first floor. The absence of a full second floor will allow you to save on construction, and the presence of an attic will add extra living space.

In finished designs of houses with an attic, in the lower part there is a publicly accessible “day zone” (living room, dining room) and a utility block, which includes a boiler room, a bathroom and even. And in the additional space of the attic floor, a so-called “night zone” is provided. This includes bedrooms, and possibly an additional one.

Ready-made projects of houses with an attic made of foam blocks

Considering various options for materials for the construction of buildings with an attic floor, we can conclude that the most popular is the development of a house project with an attic, photos of which are easy to find on the Internet. Such a building is characterized by high construction speed and lower costs for building materials. Unlike, foam blocks do not shrink, and compared to - they are much better processed, allowing you to create non-standard construction solutions - from bay windows to towers.

The advantages of choosing this material for making a house with an attic include the light weight of the blocks and their increased frost resistance and fire resistance. In addition, foam blocks are among the most environmentally friendly types of building materials and have high vapor permeability, which allows them to maintain optimal conditions inside the building. And to build a house with an attic floor out of them means making a choice in favor of reducing the cost of work and increasing the comfort of living in such housing.

In the article we will look in more detail domed houses: projects and prices, photos and recommendations from experienced specialists. The knowledge gained will be useful when choosing the method by which the building will be erected.

Compact house with attic: layout 6×6

A standard house plan with a 6 by 6 attic involves the construction of a building designed for 3–4 people. In this case, part of the living area will be located in the upper part of the building, since the small size of the lower part will only allow it to be placed. The advantages of a house project with a 6x6 attic include:

  • minimum time for manufacturing a building (within 1–2 months, depending on the material);
  • savings on payment utilities– such a small area (30–35 sq. m on the ground floor, 15–25 sq. m in the attic) will require no more energy resources than a two- or three-room apartment;
  • low construction costs - especially if you choose 6x6 projects with an attic. A building made of foam blocks would also be a good option.

With the right layout of a 6 by 6 house with an attic inside, you can place enough space for both comfortable living and storage of things. To create a storage room, you can use the space under the attic floor. . And the bathroom is made as one common block located on the first floor.

When planning the placement of rooms in a building with permanent occupancy, or choosing a ready-made project for a 6x6 country house with an attic, it is worth considering not a gable, but a broken one. This will increase the size of the upper part of the building, turning it from a kind of attic space into an area for living or summer recreation. Installing a terrace in front of the house will further increase the space.

House layout 9 by 9 with attic: photos, features

The construction of a building measuring 9 by 9 meters allows you to place many more rooms and areas inside compared to compact 6 x 6 buildings. For such a house layout with an attic, photos of which are often found in catalogs construction companies, you can provide accommodation for a large family - from 4 to 8 people.

The total area of the building's rooms reaches 120–150 square meters. m, depending on type and size.

  • A typical layout of premises for such a house is as follows:
  • on the ground floor there is a spacious living room and a kitchen-dining room;
  • on the second floor there are from 2 to 4 bedrooms, or a terrace;

a utility block (storeroom) is installed on the ground floor, and bathrooms are located in both the upper and lower parts of the building. On the ground floor there is often a veranda for relaxing in of the year. And, due to the large size of the building, there is enough space left on the ground floor for... If the residents of a house with an attic have only one car, a small one can be placed inside (by allocating an area of 3 x 9 m). For two and more cars are made separately from the main building.

Layout options for a 10 by 10 house with an attic: photo

Almost all projects of a 10x10 house with a foam block attic are not much different from 9 by 9 buildings. However, by increasing the total area by 25–35 square meters. m building will provide additional space for one or two more residents.

The number of bedrooms inside the house increases - on the attic floor, occupying from 50 to 80 square meters. m, there may already be from 3 to 5. At the same time, both the cost of construction and the costs of communications and roofing increase. But the increase in the estimate is fully justified in comparison with both smaller buildings with an attic and.

two-story houses

If there is enough space for the residents of such a building on the ground floor, an attic part of this size allows for a home theater and guest rooms. In this case, heating is not carried out in the attic, which allows it to be used only in the summer. During the cold season, this space serves as a place to store clothes and other things - while part of the floor is given over.

Other options for a house with an attic: photo projects

In addition to the most popular options for the size of buildings with an attic floor, you can use dozens of others. Starting from the layout of an 8 x 10 house with an attic, a photo of which can be seen below, and ending with projects of 9 x 12 and 10 x 12 meters. Larger buildings are rarely built with an attic floor - there is enough space inside without additional rooms. Although, unlike compact houses, such buildings make it possible to more conveniently locate the staircase assembly, the dimensions of which practically do not affect the overall territory.

Projects of large houses with attic floors require an increase in the number of bathrooms. Now on the second floor there must be a separate one - and even two, since the number of people living in the building can reach 8-10 people. To increase the convenience of residents, it is possible to provide two separate ascents to the attic floor - and even two entrances to the building itself.

Drawing up design documentation before starting construction of a building with an attic floor includes not only the layout of the rooms, but also drawings of individual structures. Particular attention should be paid to diagrams, rafter systems and flight of stairs. These parts of the building will differ from similar elements of buildings with one and two floors.

Features of planning a flight of stairs

When planning, approaches to it from different parts building. The dimensions of the structure are determined by the frequency of use of the attic floor:

  • if people live in it permanently (with heating and bathrooms), it is made of two spans with a platform in the middle and a mandatory device;
  • for use of the upper part of the house only in summer and small sizes The attic plan allows the construction of a small spiral (to save space) staircase half a meter wide.

For big building There can be two on the attic floor - in opposite parts of the house. The width of the structure can be up to 1 meter, which allows for even two-way movement. It is recommended to position the flight of stairs so that its slope remains parallel to the roof slope - this will allow for sufficient headroom during the ascent.

Roof drawings and diagrams

The design documentation of a building with an attic must include a detailed description and schematic images, including its geometric shape, slopes and geometric dimensions. The project must be accompanied by information about the thermal insulation of the roof, the quality of which determines the energy costs for heating and the microclimate in the attic area during the cold season. The materials and thickness of the insulation are selected using calculations. For this you can use – including online applications – but only a specialist can correctly calculate the design.

Despite the importance of taking into account the thickness of the insulation, an even more important step is the design of the rafter system. Due to the fact that the attic will be used for temporary or permanent residence, the roof structure will differ from the roof of a regular house. And the process of constructing the system will take much longer.

Rafter system for the attic

For a sloping roof (most often chosen for houses with an attic), the rafters must withstand serious loads - wind and snow. To take it into account, special formulas and tables are used.

And the construction process consists of the following stages:

  1. Installation of the first two racks along the edges of the building on which the system will rest;
  2. Checking the vertical position of the posts and tying twine to them, which will act as a guide for other supports;
  3. Installation of the remaining racks;
  4. Installation of purlins and their docking to racks;
  5. Installation of the bottom row of rafters, according to the building drawings. For this, inclined rafter legs are used;
  6. Construction of the upper part using hanging truss structures small size.

Rafter trusses are made according to a special template and reinforced with struts. And in order to avoid sagging of the ceiling beams, which must constantly withstand heavy loads, they are connected to the rafters using hangers. The final stage is the construction of a sheathing on top of which the roofing covering is laid.

Project development requires a special approach to roof construction. Due to the fact that the slope of the broken structure is too great, it will not be possible to continue the roof in the direction of the garage. And changing the angle of the roof can lead to a deterioration in the aesthetic characteristics of the building. Therefore, the garage can be covered with one roof only for the gable option. For the more common option with a sloping roof, the garage is covered separately.
