Sheets with 7 and 8 waves are the most practical. This is due to the small difference between their nominal and usable area. 8 wave slate has a total area (nominal) of 1.978 m2, and a useful area of ​​1.57 m2. That is, when installing such slate over overlaps (1-2 waves on both sides), a small part of the material is lost. The same can be said about 7 wave slate. Its nominal area is 1.715 m2, and its useful area is 1.3362.

The consumption of 6-wave slate when installing the roof will be slightly higher. The total area of ​​a standard sheet with 6 waves is 1.97 m2. Wherein effective area– 1.41 m2. Thus, the overlaps take up about 20% of the total material.

In addition to slate with 6, 7 and 8 waves, some factories produce material with 5 waves. However, it should be understood that such material is produced not according to GOST standards, but according to individual plant specifications.

How to calculate the required amount of slate.

We measure the length of the roof, and then divide this number by the width of the slate sheet. By subtracting one tenth for the overlap, we find out how many sheets we need for one row. And the distance from the base of the roof ridge to its lower overhang must be divided by the length of the slate sheet. Here we will add not 10, but 13 percent for the overlap. Let's round - that's the number of rows. Just in case, always buy a couple more sheets than you calculated, as there is a chance that several sheets will crack during installation.

What is 8-wave slate? Pros and cons of coverage

Wave slate- This is a sheet of asbestos cement, has a wavy profile. It differs in the number of waves located along the width of the sheet. In this case, we are interested in a sheet with eight waves.

The type of slate profile is regulated. One of them has a wave height of 40 mm, its pitch is 150 mm, designated 40/150. The sizes of the second type are 54 and 200, designated 54/200.

Slate production and its composition

The main component of slate is a natural mineral - asbestos. When added to the composition cement mortar, asbestos fibers join together. It turns out very hard material– asbestos cement. Its properties do not change when exposed to moisture, high and low temperatures, various physical activities.

Chrysotile asbestos is usually used. The mineral is fluffed up, Portland cement and water and various additives are added to it. The working composition is pulp; when preparing it, you must strictly follow the recipe in order to obtain good quality.

Exist various settings for slate production. At the first stage, the pulp is kneaded. For this purpose, bucket mixers are used. After thorough mixing, the mixture is removed, the liquid is allowed to drain and sent to a sheet molding machine.

This is where the material is pressed. The duration of the process depends on the type of equipment and pressure. Typically, slate is pressed from 30 to 90 seconds. The continuous strip moves along a special conveyor; a special drum forms strips of a certain thickness.

Rotary shears cut strips into sheets required length. Next, the drums begin to work, forming a wave of slate. Their shape and size determine geometric characteristics finished sheets. The finished sheets move along a conveyor and go through the primary curing stage.

The next stage is water saturation of the workpieces. They are kept in a special pool for a certain time and then sent for drying. This happens in a warehouse with constant high temperature. This is where the material gains its final strength.

Currently, the production of colored slate is common. This increases the wear resistance of the material, gives it new qualities, beautiful view slate roofs. For this, phosphate and acrylic dyes are used.

Use in construction

Its main use is roofing. Roofs in individual and low-rise housing construction. Longitudinal ridges serve as stiffening ribs and increase bearing capacity such coverage. This is facilitated by a thick sheet of at least 5 mm.

8-wave slate has convenient sheet sizes, which makes it easier to install. Eight-wave slate is laid staggered. The sheets in adjacent rows are shifted, and the longitudinal joints do not match, making it impossible to connect 4 elements in one unit. To ensure this shift, separate sheets cut in half lengthwise. They are used as the first extreme ones for odd rows. Due to this, the displacement occurs.

The sheets are joined with an overlap, trying to ensure that it is located on the leeward side. In the horizontal direction, the stripes overlap by the magnitude of the wave. In the vertical direction, the overlap of sheets is required to be at least 200 mm.

The slate strips are attached to the sheathing using special slate nails or screws. They should have an enlarged cap. A rubber gasket is placed under it. Holes for fasteners should be drilled with a drill, and not punched with nails, so as not to damage the sheets. They are fastened to the crest of the wave, in places where they rest on the sheathing, retreating 120 mm from the edge of the sheet.

Fastening sheets of 8-wave slate in the transverse direction is carried out in the 2nd and 6th waves. IN longitudinal direction the sheet rests on the sheathing in three places, which means the sheet must be fastened at 6 points. It is better to drill holes for fastening slate in advance according to pre-applied markings. The diameter of the hole should be 3 mm larger than the diameter of the fastener.
