Covering the pool with PVC film with your own hands. How to make a swimming pool out of film with your own hands at the dacha? How to build a pool with your own hands at the dacha from film

A swimming pool is a useful building, as it cools off in hot weather. summer heat, helps you relax, escape from everyday worries and have a good rest. An important stage in the construction of such a structure is its interior decoration. Often the pool is lined ceramic tiles or mosaic - materials that are not only aesthetically beautiful, but reliable and durable. But, as you know, technology is moving forward with great strides, so these days there is another material that has won an honorable place among such facing materials like tiles and mosaics. What is it about? This is a PVC film for a swimming pool. More and more often, pools are covered with this material, and not without reason. After all, the price of such film is significantly lower than other materials, and working with it is much easier and faster. Moreover, PVC film can act not only as a finish, it may well be the main material for the manufacture of a pool. Let's find out how to make a PVC pool with your own hands.

PVC film 2 in 1 – waterproofing and finishing

Polyvinyl chloride film(PVC), in addition to looking aesthetically beautiful, has another important advantage - it can serve as waterproofing material. Water will not pass through such a film, so you can save your money on waterproofing the pool bowl itself. The nice thing is that even if there are cracks in the concrete, and all the work was carried out without waterproofing, appropriate waterproofing putties and primers, the PVC film will be able to hold all the water in the pool, despite the enormous pressure of the water column.

Due to this property, the film is often used in the restoration of old swimming pools, the bowl of which is cracked and problems with waterproofing have arisen. Covering the pool with PVC film will help save the situation. And what’s most amazing is that you can do this without even taking off old material, for example, mosaic. In this case, it is only important to take care of the tile’s strong adhesion to the surface so that it does not peel off. Thus, by choosing PVC film as a finishing material for the pool, you can kill two birds with one stone.

Varieties

Manufacturers took into account the various preferences, financial capabilities of people and the purposes for which the film will be used. Thanks to this, you can choose a pool cover from several types of PVC film:

  1. Simple unreinforced film. It is an economy class material that anyone can afford. This is the cheapest material of the three types of films. Its thickness varies from 0.65 to 0.85 mm. This film cannot be called very durable, but it still copes with its functions. It is impossible to make a frame pool from such a film, but it is quite possible to cover the bowl of a small pit pool.
  2. Reinforced film. The most common option. The price/quality ratio is completely justified, since this film not only has a thickness of 1.5 mm, which is 2 times more than the usual one, but it is additionally reinforced with polyester threads, which gives it greater strength. A pool with such a finish can withstand significant mechanical loads without deforming. This property is especially useful for those who want to make a frame pool, where the film serves as the walls. It takes on the entire load, being a load-bearing structure, so it must withstand enormous pressure, which it copes with.
  3. Anti-slip film. Its difference from all others is its ribbed surface, so it is often used to prevent slipping on the surface of the pool. Families with small children cannot do without such a film.

Please note that there is also material that has acrylic coating. What does it give? Thanks to it, the film is protected from bacteria and algae that can colonize micropores. As experts say, with such a coating the film will last twice as long and will better retain color and elasticity. But what are the advantages of PVC films compared to other finishing materials?

Advantages and disadvantages of the material

One of its main advantages is its affordable price. Building a pool in itself is an expensive proposition, so finishing with PVC film is a salvation for some. There are many more important point that, as already mentioned, it acts as both a waterproofing and decorative material. Moreover, this material is hygienic, resistant to ultraviolet rays and sudden temperature changes. The material is easy to care for, because it is not afraid chemicals for care.

It should be noted that you can buy film in various colors. It is produced in different tones of blue, blue and green; they are able to “illuminate” the water and give it a beautiful “sea” tint. You can also buy material that imitates a mosaic of beige-white, blue-white and similar tones. One of the main advantages is that the film is easy to install if you have a special tool.

It is clear that, like all materials, film also has its disadvantages, they are as follows:

  • during operation, scratches will form on the surface, which leads to rupture;
  • over time, the saturation of colors is lost, all this will happen in 6–10 years, so the material will have to be changed;
  • butt seams spoil general form coatings;
  • when on the territory where the swimming pool is located, groundwater are close to the surface, it is impossible to cover the pool with film.

So, having considered all the material options, their advantages and disadvantages, you can get straight to the point. .

Work on the installation of a pit pool

If you want to make a pit pool at home or in the country, you need to follow this sequence:

If you want to install a drain, it is better to do it in advance, even at the pouring stage.

Finishing work

To install PVC film, it is important to follow the instructions. The process itself is simple, but requires attention. Even if you are a layman, the tips below will help you deal with this matter.

  1. First of all, you need to prepare the surface: remove all debris, leaves and everything unnecessary. If the poured walls and floor are not level enough, they must be leveled with plaster. A flat surface is necessary, since under water pressure the PVC film will repeat the relief of the bowl; if the surface turns out to be curved, after installation it will be very noticeable.
  2. To finish the pool with film, a fastening strip or corner is laid around the perimeter, which must be secured with screws. On one side, the strip has a plastic coating, to which the film will eventually be welded; if it is a corner, then the film must be secured with screws. When the pool is large, stripes are additionally fixed to the walls.
  3. Now lay a special insulation over the entire surface, thanks to which the friction of the film on the concrete will decrease, it will not wear off, and the service life of the material will increase. When the pool is placed indoors, geotextiles can be laid instead of insulation. The substrate is secured with fastening strips, and difficult places fixed with glue.
  4. After this, a film is spread on the surface with an overlap of sheets of 8 cm and a distance of 1–2 cm from the wall. To ensure that the film adheres well to the corners, use a corner.
  5. Using special equipment for gluing PVC films, weld the drain seams and additionally seal them with sealant.
  6. At the last stage, the PVC film must be connected to the mounting profile on the side of the pool.

You can see how this work is done in the video below:

All that remains is to fill the pool with water and test the new coating. Your pool is now ready for full use. To complete the job you will need the following tools:

  • sharp knife;
  • sealant;
  • equipment for gluing PVC film;
  • silicone roller;
  • corner;
  • the PVC film itself.

Frame pool made of PVC film

If you don't have the space or ability to build a pit pool, you can make a PVC frame pool that will be installed on the ground. We will look at a homemade pool made of wood and PVC film, which will have dimensions of 4.5 × 2 m and a wall height of 1 m. It can be made in a day.

That's all, all that remains is to check the tightness of your new pool by filling it with water. You can make such a pool quickly and inexpensively, but there will be many benefits from it.

To make your task easier, you can use wooden pallets as a frame:

PVC or polyvinyl chloride is a time-tested material that is widely used by builders, engineers, and designers to implement different ideas. PVC was highly appreciated due to the prompt execution of work and affordable prices. The insulator has proven itself well when installing swimming pools. PVC makes the film pool airtight, increasing the maintenance-free service life.

Tiles and mosaics for decoration are still popular, but they are gradually being replaced by artificial film. Let's try to figure out what its advantages and disadvantages are, how the film for a home pool is installed, and what nuances to pay attention to when installing.

Film Specifications

PVC – synthetic surface, used as a waterproofing material for an artificial reservoir. High quality polyvinyl chloride has an additional layer impregnated with antimicrobial components. The diameter is 2-3 mm.

Sometimes PVC is called alkorplan or liner. The film contains polyester fibers with a stabilizer. They protect the canvas from the destructive effects of UV rays. Acrylic coating makes PVC shiny and attractive in appearance.

PVC film for pool

According to statistics, 90% of all outdoor reservoirs and about 60% of indoor ones are finished with Alkorplan. Customers can purchase two types of pool film in the store, both are suitable for installation:

  • Traditional. The base is plasticized polyvinyl chloride. Supplied in rolls with a width of 1.6 m - 6 m. Just one roll is enough to build a pool of PVC film with your own hands with an area of 40 km. m. Thickness varies from 0.5 mm (very thin) to 1.2 mm. If the bowl is shallow, you should give preference to a thin coating. The deeper the tank, the thicker the film. There are smooth and anti-slip PVC surfaces.
    Corrugated coating is used to decorate mini-pools in which small children swim, as well as steps.
    Traditional alkorplan tolerates temperature changes well, so outdoor pools made from such PVC they are not afraid of even the most severe frosts. Those who love creativity can cover the bowl with patterned materials. On sale there are canvases that imitate marble and mosaics.
  • It is strong, durable, cuts great, and adheres well. When you need a truly “indestructible” material, buy butyl rubber. You can also work with it in harsh winters. Common standard sizes are from 15.25 to 61 meters (length), from 3.05 to 15.25 m (width).

Which coating should you prefer? If you are going to build a small artificial pond, a regular liner will be quite enough. When planning to build a huge PVC pool with your own hands, you should choose butyl rubber. It is stronger and thicker, so the purchase will cost more. Polyvinyl chloride is installed on new bowls, and old ones are reconstructed.

8 secrets of the popularity of PVC film

The demand for ponds and pools made of PVC film among summer residents is explained by several factors. Now we will list them:

  1. Long service life. IN in some cases he reaches twenty years of age.
  2. The coating is not afraid of temperature fluctuations, extreme cold, or sunlight.
  3. Contrary to prevailing stereotypes, a bowl covered with film is safe. She doesn't highlight harmful substances, complies with environmental standards.
  4. Easy to install. Even without professional skills, you can glue a PVC pool film in just a couple of hours.
  5. Even if cracks form, they do not affect the operation of PVC.
  6. High hygiene. The liner is not afraid of substances used to care for artificial reservoirs.
  7. Rich assortment. There are plain canvases and coatings that imitate tiles, mosaics, etc. In addition to blue-blue shades, there are turquoise and beige.
  8. The last argument in favor PVC welding films - price. Compared to tiles, alkorplan is much cheaper.

Disadvantages worth mentioning

However, this is not perfect material. It is not without its drawbacks:

  • Over time, the bowl becomes covered with small scratches. They are not very noticeable in the water, but if the water mass is drained, the abrasions become noticeable.
  • After 5-7 years of active use of the pool, the color becomes less intense and the gloss fades.
  • If you look closely, the seams at the joints are still visible. This could ruin appearance coverings.
  • Cleaning a pool whose bowl is covered with PVC is not an easy task. Especially compared to mosaic.
  • Welding of polyvinyl chloride will have to be abandoned if groundwater passes close to the surface.

Having weighed all the pros and cons, you still decided to make cladding from waterproofing film? This is the right decision! The only thing left to do is to study in detail the technology of cladding with film material.

Pond lining. Preparatory work

Installation is usually done by professionals. However, homeowners also want to try their hand at the difficult, but interesting activity. To get started, check out general rules preparation:

  • Choose the optimal one temperature regime, planning to weld PVC for the pool. It should be at least 15 degrees outside. Because in hot weather the coating “sets” better.
  • Ask your friends or buy a special hair dryer designed for welding in the store. You will also need special nozzles having different direction jets, a silicone roller for pressing, a hammer drill, a metal brush (it’s convenient to remove carbon deposits), scissors and a knife, a ruler, a solvent.
  • Preparation begins with cleaning. All rubbish and dirt are removed. If the tank is already covered with tiles and there are problems with waterproofing, alkorplan can be laid on tile covering. The main thing is that it does not peel off.
  • Polyvinyl chloride is always laid on a flat surface. There should be no potholes or bulges. Otherwise, it is necessary to sand and putty all problem areas.

Laying geotextile backing

Typically, finishing begins with the installation of a base covering and a fastening strip. Why is backing material so important? It will protect the film from touching the surface of an artificial reservoir.

  • Lay the strip tightly. On one side you will see a plastic coating - the film will be welded to it. For fastening to the bowl, the screws are screwed into pre-installed dowels. The drilling step is from 10 to 15 centimeters.
  • If the bottom has steep slopes, the strips are attached to it. When the shape is pyramidal, the strip is laid along all adjacent faces.
  • Make sure that no seals are created during the fastening process. In pools with stairs, the film is secured using a fixing angle.

Pool underlay

Installation of film material

When the pool bowl is finally prepared, the installation of PVC begins. We suggest using step by step guide– it will greatly simplify the work and clarify unclear points:

  • Step back 1-2 centimeters from the wall, making an overlap of 5-8 centimeters.
  • Check all sheets for debris, twigs and other contaminants. They shouldn't be on film.
  • First, each sheet is tacked using low temperatures. This way you can fix the panels and they won’t move anywhere. This will also prevent the formation of wrinkles that cannot be smoothed out even when filled with water.
  • Having laid the PVC on the bottom, hang the panels on the walls. The overlap for a vertical seam is from 5 to 8 centimeters, for a wall-to-wall or wall-to-bottom seam - 15 centimeters. Lay the PVC sheet on the vertical sections of the pool, welding it to the fastening strip. Be sure to weld before doing this.
  • During the welding process of the material, all carbon deposits formed are removed with a brush. The material at the corners is welded last.

Since stretching when making a wall-bottom seam is performed in horizontal plane, we recommend moving the sheet from the edge by 3 centimeters.

Installation of PVC film in the pool

Seam processing

To strengthen the fastening at the seams, they are additionally treated with a sealant. This is a special liquid that does not differ in color from the base material. It hardens in air. To distribute the sealant evenly, use an oiler. Work is carried out from top to bottom. Drying time is 30 minutes, but it is better to wait at least 1-2 hours to be safe.

When the PVC film is glued and the seams are processed, you can check the quality of work. Warm water (about 40 degrees) is poured into an artificial reservoir with a new coating to a height of 35-40 centimeters. The flanges are installed, and small holes are made in the film to stretch the sheets. After installing the flanges, you can completely fill the tank and begin your first swim in the updated pool! Enjoy relaxing on the shore of your own pond - the design is ready for use.

Sealing seams

How to make a seam of better quality?

The quality of the seam directly depends on the correct operation of the heating hair dryer. Observe a number of conditions so that you do not have to redo it:

  • Maintain a clear distance between the seam being processed and the cut of the nozzle.
  • The voltage supplying the electrical appliance should not change. The problem is especially acute for the private sector. But it can be easily solved by turning on the hair dryer through the stabilizer.
  • We remind you once again about the need to remove carbon deposits so that the jet does not start to “play.”
  • Internal corners are always processed at the end. It is possible to make minor adjustments: trim off excess, straighten strips, etc.

Results of the work

As you can see, there is nothing complicated about installing PVC into a pool bowl. The main thing is to comply accurate calculations, be careful and careful, follow the recommendations of specialists. The result will definitely please you.

People have a craving for various bodies of water (ponds, fountains, swimming pools), largely due to the beneficial properties of water - it can heal, calm, cleanse, replenish vitality. The first pools were built hundreds of years ago, and to lay them out inner surface materials such as marble, mosaic smalt or beautiful polished stones were used. But technology does not stand still and today other materials are used to finish swimming pools. One of the most popular options is pool film, which covers the inner surface of modern swimming ponds. To make such a film, butyl rubber or thermoplastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is used.

As you can see, the price range is quite wide, and the specific cost depends not only on the type of film and manufacturer, but also on the purpose. Be that as it may, there is plenty to choose from, so let’s proceed directly to finishing the pool with film.

The main types of pool film, its structure and composition

Let's start with the fact that there are now three main types of films for swimming pools, and let's get acquainted with the features of each of them.

Note! Collapsible pool models are initially equipped with liner bowls. If a stationary pool is being installed, the film must be cut and then welded at the installation site.

However, there are exceptions when both coverage options are used simultaneously. We are talking about cases when the capacity of a collapsible pool is quite large. To increase the strength of the structure, the liner included in the package is first suspended, after which an additional “bag” made of a reinforced membrane is placed on top of the frame. This “bag” is welded and then secured around the perimeter using bandage tape.

Is it possible to independently determine the quality of the film?

You can determine for yourself how high quality the pool film is by making an oblique cut from its end. If it turns out that the structure is porous and loose, then the material will hardly serve you long enough. The point is that the structure is highly quality film should be monolithic, and interspersed threads should be evenly distributed.

The reverse side of the film should have the same clear relief pattern. It is also important that the coating is elastic, and you can stretch it evenly in any direction. If the material you choose meets all these requirements, then it is of really good quality.

Strengths and weaknesses of pool films

The described membrane film has numerous advantages, thanks to which it is so popular in construction industry. Let's take a closer look at these advantages.

  1. This film is characterized by increased strength characteristics, as well as fairly high resistance to fungus and various chemicals.
  2. Membrane film is much cheaper than its mosaic ceramic competitors.
  3. As for the service life, this material reaches 20 years.
  4. The film is also resistant to stretching, temperature changes and cracks.
  5. Another advantage of membrane film is its resistance to ultraviolet radiation, dirt and limescale deposits.
  6. Finally, installing such a film is quite simple.

But there are also disadvantages that must be considered before purchasing.

  1. During use (especially intensive use), scratches inevitably appear on the surface of the material.
  2. When soldering individual pieces, weld seams are formed, which somewhat spoil the appearance.
  3. It is difficult to clean a pool with a film coating, especially when compared with bowls lined with ceramics.
  4. After a certain time, the film loses its original appearance.
  5. If the groundwater is shallow, then it is advisable to completely abandon the film lining of the bowl.
  6. The material is resistant to mechanical damage from cutting and sharp objects.
  7. Reinforced sheets can only be used for those pools that have simple form bowls. In the case of a shaped tank design with curved, fancy outlines, it is better to give preference to a ceramic coating.

How to choose the right film

Now, having familiarized yourself with the features, characteristics, pros and cons of pool film, you can proceed directly to the choice suitable option. We advise you to pay attention to the following important parameters.

What should the thickness be?

As for the geometry of the canvases, it does not play a special role, and the standard dimensions (LxW) are 2.5x2.4/0.68 meters. With thickness, everything is by no means easy. To optimize costs and ensure the required strength (and therefore service life coating) you must take into account the depth of the pool bowl.

  1. If the depth is approximately 2 meters, then a film with a thickness of 0.7 millimeters (can be 0.2 millimeters thinner or thicker) is suitable for you.
  2. In all other cases, the thickness should be at least 1 millimeter.
  3. If your pool is large and the configuration of its bowl is complex or embossed, then the pool film you need to use should be two-layer and at least 1.5 millimeters thick.

What should the execution be like?

There are also several possible options, let's get acquainted with them.

  1. Simple film. It is the cheapest, the strength is low, and therefore is used in the finishing of swimming pools to a limited extent. In most cases it is used for prefabricated pools.
  2. WITH anti-slip coating. It is expensive, but safe to use (the surface of the material is ribbed), which compares favorably with similar options.
  3. Reinforced. It is rightfully considered the most popular. It is able to withstand severe loads, and therefore is used practically without any restrictions.
  4. With acrylic coating. Designed primarily for bactericidal protection of water in the bowl. Thanks to such a film, the water does not bloom, rot does not develop in it, harmful microorganisms And so on. The material can last for aquatic environment approximately 1.8 times more than options without acrylic coating.

If everything is clear with this, you can familiarize yourself with the approximate prices and popular modifications of pool film.

How to decorate a pool bowl with film with your own hands

The process consists of several stages, which we will consider sequentially. But first, let’s note that it will be better if the pool film is laid in hot weather - this way it will stick to the bowl better.

Stage one. Preparation

Step one. Clean the bowl first. Remove all debris and thoroughly clean all surfaces. This way you can detect defects if there are any.

Step two. Next, eliminate all defects. If these are unevenness inherent in concrete pools, then they can subsequently lead to damage to the covering material. And if the bulges can simply be sanded or knocked down, then you can use putty or cement mortar to fill the recesses. If you observe that the tile has partially peeled off, then this defect also needs to be eliminated.

Note! If the damage to the bowl is serious, you can fill in the leveling screed. This is quite simple, fortunately today there are many suitable dry mixtures (and not only dry ones) sold.

Step three. Draw up a diagram for installing the substrate and fastening strips. I cannot give any specific recommendations, since the dimensions and configuration of each individual pool are often individual. We only note that the length of the strip should be 2 meters, thickness - 0.2 centimeters, and width - about 8 centimeters.

Select the scheme yourself - it all depends on the specific geometry. We can’t advise anything else, because you must do the measurements and so on yourself.

Stage two. Substrate

During operation, the film will be subject to serious loads, due to which its service life will be noticeably reduced. Therefore, make a geotextile backing that will not only protect the film, but also serve as a kind of insulation. Heat loss through the walls and bottom will be reduced, so the water will cool more slowly.

To fix the geotextile, use a metal tape - secure it to the inner surface, then pull it securely non-woven material. This method The fastening is different in that the side here will be covered with plastic. The film will have to be “welded” to this plastic. Take this into account and try not to mix up the sides during installation.

  1. The distance between the screws should be a maximum of 1-1.2 centimeters - thanks to this, the film will be securely pressed against the entire inner surface.
  2. To make it easier to install fastening strips on rounded areas, make triangular cutouts in several places. The number of such cuts depends on the radius of curvature.
  3. If there are steps, the pool film on their “edges” can be attached not with stripes, but with corners.

Stage three. How to attach geotextiles

Step one. According to the diagram, drill holes in the concrete and drive dowels into them for screws.

Step two. Install the material fragments according to the same pattern. Monitor not only the reliability of the joints, but also the tightness of the contact with the concrete. There shouldn’t be any sweetness, gaps or anything else.

Note! Treat the back side of the material with glue, but only pointwise - this way the pieces of material will not move during work. Once the geotextile is level, press it against the concrete at these points to achieve a more secure fit.

Step three. At the end, all that remains is to install the fastening strips and press tightly with screws.

Stage four. Open the films

Perhaps the most important stage work. Remember that after the bowl is filled with water, the film will stretch, and the tension depends on the steepness of the walls. Also, when planning the cutting pattern, remember that the pieces will be laid with an overlap of 0.2-0.6 centimeters, and it is important that they lie on the surface freely and without tension. In case of corner connections(for example, at the junction of the wall and the bottom), the overlap should be doubled - in other words, to approximately 1.2 centimeters.

Stage five. Film laying

First you need to finish the bottom of the bowl. The accuracy of the result of this procedure will determine how well subsequent operations will be performed. Place the film from bottom to top. Be sure to use a plumb line in your work - it is along it that you need to align the pieces of material.

Stage six. Welding

The stage of laying the film is also quite complex. You will no longer be able to redo anything in order to eliminate the flaws - you can only replace the required piece of material.

Lay adjacent strips first. Once aligned, grab them, otherwise they may move during welding. You can grab it in one of two ways.

  1. If thin material is used, a spot connection using a solvent will suffice. At these points the solvent will melt, so everything is guaranteed to stick together.
  2. There is another way - heat the film with a hair dryer in the right places, and then fix it. The work is difficult, but the rest depends on how well you do it.

Video - How to properly weld pool film

Stage seven. We process the seams

Due to the fact that pools are not cleaned every day, most of us do not have practical experience in this type of activity. For this reason, defects will inevitably form at the joints. To reliably seal these joints, we recommend additionally treating them with special liquid compounds - joint sealants (these can be easily found on sale). You can easily select a sealant to match the color of the film, and there is nothing difficult in working with it. You just need to squeeze this product out of the tube, apply along the joint and wait a little (about half an hour if the temperature is room temperature). During this time, the product will harden but retain its elasticity.

The quality of the seams largely depends on the uniformity of heating. For this reason, try to adhere to the requirements below while working.

  1. When working, try to maintain a certain distance between the seam being processed and the cut of the nozzle.
  2. Also make sure that the supply voltage construction hair dryer, was constant. This point is especially relevant for the private sectors, where problems with electricity supply are often observed. In a word, when laying the film, it is advisable to turn on the device through the stabilizer.
  3. When welding pieces of material, regularly remove carbon deposits from the nozzle, otherwise the jet will begin to “play”, and this, in turn, will affect the quality of the welds.
  4. Use a hair dryer to work the corners of the bowl last. Now you still have the opportunity to correct anything - cut off the excess, straighten the stripes.

Note! Finally, it should be noted that after installation of the film is completed, the pool must be filled with water gradually. Moreover, the water must be warm! If you do everything correctly, the pool film will be more elastic and stretch better.

Video - Arranging a pool using mosaic film

Having your own is no longer a luxury item or something unusual. Backyard almost every suburban or country house boasts the presence of this element. Moreover, progress does not stand still and for those who do not want to bother too much, ready-made ones are sold, equipped with everything necessary. All that's left to do is assemble and enjoy. More economical and practical owners are trying to equip swimming pools with their own hands minimal costs. And it’s worth noting – not without success. Whichever option you like, you will definitely be faced with the issue of reliable and durable waterproofing. Let's try to figure it out how to select and installfilmsPVC for swimming pool, one of the most budget and simple materials to ensure proper operating conditions.

No. 1. Characteristics of PVC film

Today it offers consumers many different quality options at different prices. However, delving into the topic a little deeper, you can find that the same finishing with tiles or mosaics, taking into account not only its cost, but also the consumption of the adhesive mixture, turns out to be an expensive pleasure.

As more accessible, but not inferior in technical specifications waterproofing, Often a PVC film is used, or in other words a liner, which consists of a base and a top layer. On back side There is a thin fabric backing. This modern coating is made of dense polyvinyl chloride, between two layers of which a layer of polyester fiber is placed. It is necessary for reinforcing the material. It is worth noting that PVC is obtained from vinyl chloride, which contains high levels of chloride compounds. Such discharges are very harmful to human health, however, in high-quality products such risks are minimized. And given the fact that a person spends only a few hours in the pool, the liner is absolutely safe for use as waterproofing. But as insulation for a pond in which fish will constantly live, it is better to use butyl rubber film.

A prerequisite which guarantees the safe use of PVC film for health is the passage of special certification by the material. Therefore, when purchasing, do not hesitate to ask sellers about its availability.

No. 2. Types of PVC films for pools

As we have already said, the liner can be used both for waterproofing small collapsible structures and for large pools with concrete bowls. The size and depth of the tank is two key indicators, which must be taken into account when choosing the type of film. It is not advisable to overpay for denser material if there is no real need for it. But it is also wrong to purchase a thinner one in order to save money, since in this case the film will wear out much faster and will have to be repeated in a couple of years. Naturally, you won’t find any benefits from using the liner in this case. That's why note for the following features:

Depending on the thickness of the material and coating, liner happens four types:

No. 3. Advantages and disadvantages of PVC film

We can safely say that the use of PVC film has made it possible to make a big step forward in the field of construction and finishing of swimming pools. After all, when making the right choice and following the installation technology, you can get a lot advantages:

TO shortcomings The material includes the following points:

As you can see, the material has enough advantages to prefer it to other types of finishes.

No. 4. Large manufacturers of PVC film for pools

The most popular question is how much does PVC film cost?? It’s worth saying right away that the price directly depends on the thickness of the material. The name of the manufacturer also plays an important role. Firstly, by purchasing film at an attractive price, which is significantly lower than the market average, you have a unique opportunity to purchase non-certified material. In other words - fake. From this it follows, secondly - health hazard, which can be represented by material produced without meeting sanitary standards. Such a film may contain particles heavy metals, arsenic and other harmful elements. She will definitely have a very bad smell. Buy a liner from trusted manufacturers that you have heard about, read reviews, or that your friends and acquaintances recommend from personal experience.
On the Russian market The following brands have earned trust:

  • Agrilac is an Italian company that specializes exclusively in the production of PVC waterproofing. In this regard, their products are characterized high performance quality. At the same time, such a narrow focus made it possible to maintain a more than affordable price for the product - from 150 rubles. per square meter;
  • IZOFOL– Polish manufacturer of waterproofing materials. The range of goods is not large, but this fully compensates high quality and the strength of the Polish film. The price starts from 200 rubles/sq.m;
  • RENOLITGerman quality and a varied assortment of coatings is available to customers for 200-250 rubles/sq.m.;
  • WTB ELBEsecur- another famous one German manufacturer, which specializes in the production of various waterproofing materials. Color solutions trademark offers little, but their product has a double safety margin, which allows the coating to withstand significant loads. Cost – from 230 rub./sq.m.;
  • AzureRussian manufacturer, which is distinguished by good quality coating. The average price is 650 rubles/sq.m.;
  • Flagpool is a French company that produces high-quality film, but with a rather modest range of colors. Almost all varieties are uniform in color and come in various shades of blue. The price of the product is from 1000 rubles/sq.m.;
  • Elbtal– German manufacturer of expensive film with reflective effect and reinforced layer. The design of the liner is made in the form of a decorative pattern. The cost starts from 1400 rubles/sq.m.;
  • AlkorPlan is a Belgian manufacturer that specializes in the production of luxury film, the design of which very realistically follows the texture natural stone. Coating quality top level, however, like its cost - from 1500 rubles/sq.m.;

No. 5. How to choose PVC film for a swimming pool?

When choosing, be sure to consider the depth And configuration your pool. The deeper and more intricate it is, the thicker the film should be. For frame structures standard sizes You can buy a ready-made and soldered liner. You also need to pay attention to the appearance of the coating itself:

If all these parameters correspond, this indicates that this is a quality product that was produced in a factory.

No. 6. Where to buy PVC film for a swimming pool?

To purchase a truly high-quality product, you must contact specialized stores. When purchasing online or from small outlets, you may encounter the following troubles:

  • The seller will not provide you with a warranty for the purchased product. And not from the manufacturer, not from our own point of sale, which should already arouse suspicion in you and discourage you from purchasing goods here;
  • In addition to the warranty, there may be no delivery. For people with personal transport, this may not be a problem, but for others, given the weight of the rolls, this will incur additional costs. After all, reliable sellers can always provide free or minimal delivery;
  • Lack of a certificate confirming the decoction’s compliance with sanitary standards;
  • And the most unpleasant thing is the replacement of goods. It may happen that you will be shown a sample of really high-quality film at an appropriate price. You place an order, pay for it, after which they will ship you a film of similar thickness and color, but from a completely different manufacturer, and naturally at a much lower cost. You will be able to find out about this only if the film has a characteristic smell, like its cheap analogues. Or when, after several years of operation, waterproofing layer will wear out.

Therefore, be vigilant and do not purchase goods from dubious points. Even if the price is very tempting. On the contrary, this is a reason to once again think about the origin of the material.

No. 7. Finishing the pool with PVC film

For those who are determined to carry out waterproofing work themselves, it will be useful to know that it is correct to carry out finishing in several stages. Due attention should be given to each of them. After all, only a properly mounted canvas can withstand the load and please you long term operation. And you won't be one of those users who leave negative reviews about this method of insulation and call it short-lived and unreliable.

Prepare the following in advance tools:

Now in detail about the cladding technology itself.

Preparing the pool for finishing with liner

Like many other important jobs, film installation should begin with proper preparation surfaces swimming pool To do this you need:

  • Perform a thorough visual inspection of the pool bowl and identify any defects. In the case of laying a bowl from blocks, there may be cracks and gaps in the seams or simply uneven masonry. The walls must be leveled and then cleaned. On concrete surface There may be sagging or various bulges that need to be leveled and sanded. If you find a crack or deep chip, first and then sand the restored area. Loose tiles need to be replaced;
  • If there is significant damage to the bottom of the pool, it is necessary. Most quick way, which makes it possible to begin subsequent work within a few hours - the use of self-leveling solutions. Before using them, you need to clean the surface from dirt, dust, grease stains, thoroughly prime it and let it dry;
  • Particular attention should be paid to problem areas such as edges and corners. In these places, the solution may not “stick” well to the base;
  • After the pool bowl has a smooth and complete surface, you need to make sure that all embedded parts are flush with the walls and equipped with sealing flanges. This will ensure proper tightness;
  • It is better to use flanges made of stainless steel or plastic with a rubber gasket that is resistant to the aggressive effects of chlorine;
  • Now you need to remove all the debris and empty the cavity of the bowl;

Substrate arrangement

This stage is mandatory. Used as a substrate , which not only prevents the reduction of dynamic loads on the film and its premature abrasion, but also allows the water to cool much more slowly. He prevents heat loss through the concrete bottom and walls.

Please pay attention, that geotextiles should be attached smoothly, without wrinkles, folds, gathers, and especially gaps. The sheets should be overlapped by 3-4 cm. If you are installing the substrate yourself, in order to avoid its displacement, you can apply several dots of elastic glue to the wall and press the material. It is better to do this closer to the middle, and not along the edges of the sheets. When the substrate is securely fixed, you can begin attaching the film itself. You also need to remember to attach the mounting strip along the entire perimeter of the pool on the sides, at a distance of 5-8 cm from the edge of the bowl. At the very end, a film will be attached to it that covers the walls.

Installation of PVC film

This is the most critical stage on which the final result depends. It is best to install the film at positive temperatures – at least +15°C. This way it will be more pliable and will stick well. You should start with cutting of canvases:

  • You must understand that after filling the pool with water, the film will experience significant stress. It will stretch. Moreover, how long it will have to stretch depends entirely on the configuration of the pool. The more sharp corners and turns, the greater the supply of canvas should be. If on average the sheets are stacked on top of each other with an overlap of 3 to 4 cm, then at corners, radii and similar elements this figure should be doubled;
  • Start with the sheets that will cover the bottom. Their length should be such that they extend onto the adjacent walls by 5-8 cm;
  • Now you need to hang the sheets on the walls of the pool. This must be done in a vertical manner. The easiest way to control this parameter is with a plumb line. Perform the markings in such a way that the sheets overlap each other vertically by 5-8 cm, and at the corners and bottom by 10-15 cm;
  • Keep in mind that the film under water pressure will stretch not only in the vertical, but also in the horizontal direction.
  • Leave enough reserve;
  • After cutting, you can start welding. For convenience, first fasten the first two sheets point by point using the quick tack method. This will allow them not to move, but will give you the opportunity to correct their position if necessary. During soldering, all sheets must lie flat and not form wrinkles. They cannot be removed afterwards;
  • Welding is performed using a hair dryer. If carbon deposits form during the process, it is removed with a wire brush;
  • At the end, you need to weld the film to the mounting strip on the sides of the pool and carefully roll the edge with a special roller;
  • The seams can be treated with a special sealant for additional tightness and allowed to harden for 30-40 minutes.

The work is finished, it's time to check the finished waterproofing. To do this, you need to fill the pool with water. This must be done slowly and only use warm water.

A swimming pool is a useful building because it cools you down in the hot summer heat, helps you relax, escape from everyday worries and have a good rest. The most important stage in the construction of such a structure is its interior decoration. Usually the pool is lined with ceramic tiles or mosaics - materials that are not only aesthetically beautiful, but of high quality and durable. But, as we know, technology is moving forward with enormous strides, based on this. Now there is another material that has won an honorable place among such facing materials as tiles and mosaics. What is the appeal about? This is a PVC film for a swimming pool. More and more often, pools are covered with just this material, and for good reason. Since the price of such film is significantly lower than other materials, and working with it is much easier and faster. Moreover, PVC film can act not only as a finish, it is fully possible as the main material for the manufacture of a pool. Let's determine how to make a PVC pool with your own hands.

PVC film 2 in 1 – waterproofing and finishing

Polyvinyl chloride film (PVC), in addition to looking aesthetically beautiful, has another serious advantage - it can serve as a waterproofing material. Water will not pass through such a film, so you have the opportunity to save money on waterproofing the pool bowl itself. The nice thing is that, in addition, if there are cracks in the concrete, and all the work was carried out without waterproofing, appropriate waterproofing putties and primers, the PVC film will be able to hold all the water in the pool, regardless of the enormous pressure of the water column.

Due to this property, the film is quite often used in the restoration of dilapidated swimming pools, the bowl of which is cracked and problems with waterproofing have arisen. Covering the pool with PVC film will help save the situation. And what’s most unusual is that this can also be done without removing old material, for example, mosaic. Under such conditions, it is fundamentally important only to take care of the strong adhesion of the tile to the surface so that it does not peel off. So, by choosing PVC film as a finishing material for the pool, it is possible to kill two birds with one stone.

Varieties

Manufacturers took into account different preferences, people's financial capabilities and the purposes for which the film will be used. That is why you can choose a pool cover from several types of PVC film:

  1. A simple, unreinforced film. There is an economy class material that anyone can afford. This is the most inexpensive material from three types of films. Its thickness varies from 0.65 to 0.85 mm. This film cannot be called very durable, but it still copes with its functions. It is impossible to make a frame pool from such a film, but it is quite possible to sheathe the bowl of a small pit pool.
  2. Reinforced film. The most common option. The price/quality level ratio is completely justified, since this film not only has a thickness of 1.5 mm, which is 2 times more than a simple one, but it is additionally reinforced with polyester threads, which gives it enormous strength. A pool with such a finish can withstand heavy mechanical loads without deforming. This property is especially useful for those who want to make a frame pool, where the role of the walls is played by the film. It takes on the entire load, being a load-bearing structure, and therefore must withstand enormous pressure, which it can handle.
  3. Anti-slip film. Its difference from all others is its ribbed surface, which is why it is usually used to prevent sliding on the surface of the pool. Families with small children cannot do without such a film.

Please note that there is also a material that has an acrylic coating. What does it give? Thanks to it, the film is protected from bacteria and algae, which can colonize micropores. Experts say that with such a coating, the film will last twice as long and will better retain color and elasticity. But what are the advantages of PVC films compared to other finishing materials?

Advantages and disadvantages of the material

One of its main advantages is its affordable price. Building a pool in itself is an expensive pleasure, so finishing with PVC film is a salvation for some. Another important point is that, as already mentioned, it acts as both a waterproofing and decorative material. Moreover, this material is hygienic, resistant to ultraviolet rays and sudden temperature changes. The material is easy to care for because it does not require chemical care products.

to emphasize that it is possible to purchase film different colors. It is created in various tones of blue, light blue and green; they are able to “illuminate” the water and give it a wonderful “sea” tint. It is also possible to purchase material that imitates a mosaic of beige-white, light blue-white and similar tones. One of the main advantages is that the film is easy to install if you have a special tool.

It is clear that, like all materials, film also has its disadvantages, they are as follows:

  • During operation, scratches will form on the surface, which leads to rupture;
  • over time, the saturation of colors is lost, all this will happen in 6–10 years, based on this, the material will need to be changed;
  • butt seams spoil the non-specialized type of coating;
  • at a time when groundwater is close to the surface in the area where the pool is located, it is prohibited to cover the pool with film.

So, having considered all the material options, their advantages and disadvantages, it is possible to get down to business .

Work on the installation of a pit pool

If you want to make a pit pool at home or in the country, you need to follow the following sequence:

If you want to install a drain, it is better to do this in advance, even at the pouring stage.

Finishing works

In order to install PVC film, it is fundamentally important to follow the instructions. The process itself is simple, but requires attention. In addition, if you are a layman, the recommendations below will help you cope with this matter.

  1. First of all, you need to prepare the surface: remove all debris, leaves and everything unnecessary. If the poured walls and floor are not level enough, they need to be leveled with plaster. A flat surface is needed, because under water pressure the PVC film will repeat the relief of the bowl; if the surface turns out to be curved, it will be very noticeable after installation.
  2. To finish the pool with film, a fastening strip or corner is laid around the perimeter, which must be secured with screws. On one side, the strip has a plastic coating, to which the film will eventually be welded; if it is a corner, then the film must be secured with screws. When the pool is huge, stripes are additionally fixed to the walls.
  3. Now lay a special insulation over the entire surface, which will reduce the friction of the film on the concrete, it will not wear off, and the service life of the material will increase. When the pool is located indoors, it is possible to lay geotextiles instead of insulation. The substrate is attached with fastening strips, and in difficult places it is fixed with glue.
  4. Then a film is spread on the surface with a page overlap of 8 cm and a distance of 1–2 cm from the wall.

Now your pool is ready for full use. To complete the job you will need the following tools:

  • perforator;
  • sharp knife;
  • sealant;
  • equipment for gluing PVC film;
  • silicone roller;
  • corner;
  • the PVC film itself.

Frame pool made of PVC film

If you do not have the opportunity and space to build a pit pool, you have the opportunity to make a frame pool from PVC, which will be installed on the ground. We will look at a homemade pool made of wood and PVC film, which will have dimensions of 4.5 x 2 m and a wall height of 1 m. It can be made in a day.

That's all, all that remains is to check the tightness of your new pool by filling it with water. It is possible to make such a pool quickly and inexpensively, but there will be a lot of benefits from it.
