Balcony wardrobe. Options for loggia cabinets and important selection criteria. Assembly of cabinets for loggias and balconies by our craftsmen on video

A closet on a loggia or balcony helps solve the problem of lack of space in the apartment for rarely used but much needed things. The right approach to the choice of shape and design will help maintain the attractive appearance of the balcony and make the most of its usable area. The existing variety of materials allows you to create a cabinet that best suits the interior. You can make a cabinet for a balcony with your own hands quickly, efficiently and with minimal financial costs.

Balcony cabinet options

Before you start designing a cabinet, you should understand the variety of configurations and choose the most functional option for yourself.

Loggias and balconies have different dimensions, so all dimensions in the diagrams are approximate. In every special case The drawing should be compared with the actual dimensions.

Built-in and cabinet structures

A built-in wardrobe is the most convenient and economical option. It occupies every centimeter of the area intended for it, even the space under the windowsill. The side and back walls do not need to be covered, which significantly saves material. The disadvantage of such a cabinet is the impossibility of moving it to another place. But usually there is no need for this. The built-in wardrobe is made from floor to ceiling so that it can accommodate as many shelves as possible for the necessary things.

You can install ready-made cabinet furniture on the balcony or use an old bookcase with many shelves as a shelving unit. But the option is not ideal, since it is difficult to choose furniture of the required size.

Corner balcony furniture

Corner cabinets are quite large, but can accommodate significantly more things. The advantage of such structures is the ability not to sacrifice part of the window opening and maintain access of light to the room.

In this version, the wide part of the cabinet occupies the side wall of the loggia, and the narrow part is adjacent to façade wall. In such cabinets you can only install sliding doors, which makes it possible to save money usable space loggias.

There is another option corner cabinet- more massive and voluminous.

Everyone determines the number of shelves and their location based on their needs. The doors are hinged, but roller shutters can also be used.

Compact containers for storing small items

Tall cabinets are well suited for loggias with blank side walls, as they allow rational use of usable space. But such furniture is not suitable for balconies that have full glazing around the perimeter of the outer walls. In this case, the best option would be a low cabinet under the window, which can be placed under one or both end walls or along the entire length of the balcony under the window sill.

The choice of model depends on the size of the balcony and the purposes for which the cabinet will be used.

Non-standard ideas for arranging a balcony-boot

Many people are baffled by the boot-shaped balcony. There is a huge amount original ideas, how to turn a completely unnecessary, at first glance, “appendix” into a pantry or a full-fledged built-in closet with a lot of shelves.

To do this, it is enough to install the frame for the shelves, the shelves themselves and sew up the facade. As a door, you can use roller shutters or a swing door made of a material that matches the interior. Instead of a double-glazed window, you can install a sandwich package (plastic-insulation-plastic).

Doors, frames, shelves - which options to choose?

Doors - possible designs:

  • Sliding doors save loggia space, as they do not require free space to open. It is convenient, beautiful and practical. The only downside is that this design slightly reduces the interior space of the cabinet;
  • hinged doors make it possible to see the entire contents of the cabinet at once, close tightly and are practical to use. The disadvantage is the need for additional space in front of the cabinet for free opening;
  • accordion door if correct design solution can decorate the interior of the loggia. The advantage is saving space in front of the cabinet. The disadvantage of such a door is that it does not fit tightly and there is no full view, even with the door fully open;
  • Roller shutters have not been used in the furniture industry for long, but have already found many fans. The only drawback is the high price. The advantages include easy installation, tightness, full opening, no need for additional space, immunity to sunlight and moisture.

The frame can be wooden or metal.

It must be remembered that if the balcony is unheated and has high humidity, wooden beam may soon become unusable.

To avoid this, you should choose timber large section and regularly treat it with special impregnations.

The best option is to use a galvanized metal profile. It is not afraid of moisture and temperature changes, and any finishing material is attached to it quite easily.

To simplify the task, you can use metal guides with brackets on which the shelves are placed. The distance between the shelves can be easily changed using the holes in the guides.

The number and shape of shelves depend on the size of the cabinet. A built-in closet under the ceiling is usually made in two sections. One section contains a large number of shelves and is designed for small items or cans. The second consists of a compartment for large items and one upper shelf.

A corner cabinet can accommodate a large number of shelves at varying distances from each other. Window cabinets with a standard shelf arrangement are primarily intended for cans or small items.

If you want to give the loggia a more aesthetic look, you can install a cabinet with corner shelves under the flowers, decorative elements or books.

Material selection

When choosing material for the cabinet, you should consider climatic conditions, overall design loggias, expected load on shelves, financial capabilities.

Possible options:

  • wood is the most expensive material. Has excellent aesthetic and performance characteristics, subject to temperature regime and rules of care. Not recommended for use on cold balconies with high humidity;
  • plastic is cheap and practical material. Not subject to temperature changes, moisture resistant and not picky in care. Disadvantages are color change when exposed to sun rays and instability to mechanical damage;
  • MDF (fine fraction) - environmentally friendly pure material, similar in properties to natural wood, but much cheaper. The panels are resistant to moisture and high temperatures;
  • Chipboard - pressed wood shavings, but unlike MDF, harmful resins are used in production, which makes the board environmentally unsafe. Doesn't hold fastened parts well and can break. But the price is much lower than MDF boards;
  • Fiberboard (fibreboard) - not intended for cladding work. In furniture production it is used to make the back part. The disadvantage is high hygroscopicity, which causes deformation.

Drawings and step-by-step instructions for making balcony cabinets

Setting up a cabinet on the balcony is within the capabilities of a home craftsman who can hold the tool correctly in his hands.

Before you start manufacturing, you need to decide on the location, type, size and material. The next step is to create a sketch or drawing with precisely defined dimensions of the cabinet, the number and location of shelves and door design.

When the configuration and material of the future product are selected, you can decide on the fittings and necessary tools.

Tool you may need:

  • electric saw;
  • electric drill;
  • hammer;
  • plane;
  • chisels;
  • hydraulic level;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • square;
  • pliers;
  • construction knife;
  • sandpaper;
  • plumb line

There are three assembly options:

  • built-in wardrobe. Doesn't have internal walls. The structure for the shelves is assembled using wooden blocks or a metal profile. Only the front part of the cabinet and the door are manufactured;
  • portable cabinet. The basis is a frame, which is covered with plasterboard, clapboard, chipboard or plastic;
  • cabinet cabinet. The box is completely assembled from the selected material. Shelves and doors are attached directly to the assembled structure.

Let's consider all the options.

Scheme and procedure for manufacturing built-in balcony furniture

Such a cabinet is made from floor to ceiling and from wall to wall. Before starting installation, it is necessary to remove the skirting boards, if any.

The best option for making a frame is wooden blocks. They are easy to cut and quite simple to assemble. Can be used metallic profile under drywall. This option is, of course, cheaper, but you can forget about the aesthetic appearance.

Before starting installation, you need to make markings. To do this, in place of the facade, you should attach a square at an angle of 90º to the side wall and draw a line on the ceiling. Next, using a level or plumb line, continue the line to side walls and connect on the floor.

Then we attach the frame as follows:

  1. Apply the block to the surface.
  2. We mark the timber for fasteners in increments of 0.5 meters.
  3. We drill the block with a thin drill according to the marks so that marks remain in the surface of the wall or ceiling.
  4. We remove the block and use a hammer drill to make holes in the base for fasteners.
  5. Insert the dowels into the resulting holes.
  6. We screw the block with self-tapping screws to the surface.

This is how the entire frame is assembled. First you need to install the rear racks plumb. If they cannot be fixed to the walls, then using corners we attach them to the ceiling and floor.

The bars can be connected using shaped cutouts, but fastening with corners is the most convenient.

It is better to mark under the shelves using a hydraulic level. Of course, you can use a regular level, but it is more difficult to achieve horizontality with it. Assembling the base for the shelves is similar to assembling the main frame.

After the frame is completely assembled, you need to sew up the shelves. For this you can use chipboards or MDF, but shelves made of boards look more aesthetically pleasing. Simple planks of small thickness are suitable, which are screwed to the frame with self-tapping screws.

Using this cabinet design, it is necessary to think about the cladding of the front part. In our case, this is the door.

A classic and convenient option is swing doors. If the inside of the cabinet is made of wood, then it is better to cover the door with clapboard. It is necessary to perform work according to the following algorithm:

  1. Take dimensions and draw a sketch.
  2. Make a template for cutting the board.
  3. Cut the required number of boards of the same length.
  4. For each door, prepare three bars: two of the same length and one corresponding to the diagonal doorway. This is the frame of the future door, shaped like the letter Z.
  5. Place the frame on a flat surface and lay the clapboard on top. If all dimensions match, you can begin assembly.
  6. First you need to screw the outer boards.
  7. All subsequent planks must be tightly screwed to the horizontal and diagonal beam.

To make the door, you can use MDF boards, which will simplify the task. It is necessary to take accurate measurements and cut the slab to size. You can do this yourself, but it is better to order cutting from a special service with a lamination service for the ends.

The next stage is installing hinges and hanging the door.

To install the hinges correctly, you must first fix them on the doors, and then make markings on the racks.

Having made preliminary markings, you need to cut through the wood with a chisel. The depth of the cavity should be sufficient to recess the metal part of the hinge. Then you should remove the remaining chips with a chisel. Recesses that are too deep will make it difficult to open the door.

Then you need to place the loop in the resulting hole and secure it with self-tapping screws. It is more convenient to first assemble such a structure on the door, and then screw it onto the cabinet.

After assembly, it is necessary to eliminate distortions using special adjustable bolts. After completing the door installation, you should attach the handles.

Procedure for installing small cabinets

It is most convenient to make a low cabinet under the side wall of the loggia from chipboard sheets or MDF. Initially, you need to draw a diagram with exact dimensions and cut the slabs to the specified dimensions. It is better to do this immediately when purchasing the material.

Build process:

  1. Assemble using corners side walls and bottom.
  2. The back wall can be made of fiberboard. Secure with furniture nails.
  3. Screw the corners where the shelves are attached.
  4. Lay out the shelves.
  5. Attach an MDF sheet or table top to the top.
  6. Install the doors.

Very convenient option is narrow cabinet under the window. It is beneficial to make such furniture if the window sill is too wide. To avoid wasting space under the window sill, it is better to occupy it with additional capacity. It is easy to build from blocks on which shelves are placed. On long balconies you need to install intermediate bars. This is necessary to give stability to the shelves. Hinged or sliding doors are installed on the façade.

Assembly procedure for corner elements

You can draw up a diagram yourself or find a suitable one and enter the required dimensions.

This option can be assembled without a frame, following the order of operations:

  1. Nail or screw (depending on the quality of the walls) the bars under the shelves.
  2. Make markings for the façade.
  3. Secure a block or metal profile, depending on the intended type of cladding.
  4. Fix the strips to the ceiling and floor beam when covering with wood. If you use plastic for cladding, then screw a special profile to the ceiling, with the help of which the strips are combined into a single sheet.
  5. Attach the clapboard door to four cross bars and install hinges.

You can make a built-in corner wardrobe with sliding doors, which will significantly save free space. Door installation procedure:

  1. Attach guides to the ceiling and floor along which the door rollers will move.
  2. Attach to door panel accessories.
  3. After assembling the fittings, check the smooth movement of the guides.

The disadvantage of sliding doors is the high cost of fittings.

It’s not difficult to make a wardrobe for your balcony with your own hands. Instructions and recommendations will help in installing the selected structure. The main thing is to choose the right model and make accurate measurements. With a little effort, your new closet will delight the eye for many years and help keep your apartment tidy.

Even if the balcony is glazed, you will realize that it would be nice to have a closet here that is at least partially capable of solving the accumulated problems.

Wardrobe on the balcony

No matter how large your balcony is, it is quite difficult to install a multifunctional cabinet on it, because you cannot block either the window or the open part of the balcony without blocking the light and without compromising the aesthetic component. It is best to think about which goal will be most in demand in your case:

  1. Wardrobe.
  2. Bookshelf.
  3. Cabinet for storing canned goods of our own production.
  4. A cabinet for tools (including one with a compartment for a stepladder and ironing board, for which there is no place in the room).

Your choice will be decisive. Thus, a wardrobe can be made or purchased with sliding mirror doors, pursuing two goals at once: functional and decorative. You can put, for example, winter and rarely needed clothes in it, and the mirrored doors will visually expand the space of your loggia (balcony). Since the rules of aesthetics require that something beautiful be reflected in the doors, for the rest of the decor you should think about a table, an armchair or bench, flower stands and general wall decoration.

But even if you choose a closet not for clothes, but for another purpose, it makes sense to decorate the space in the same style that the closet will be made, or, on the contrary, if there is a general decor, fit new furniture into it.

Options for choosing materials for a balcony cabinet

If you live in a not very humid climate, and wood is inexpensive, then the option of making (or ordering) a cabinet made of wood is the most aesthetically pleasing. But if there is the slightest fear that the cabinet walls will be exposed to moisture, it is better to choose metal, glass, plastic, chipboard, MDF, plywood, and drywall. Please note that the latter is afraid of water and is easily deformed. The plywood will have to be specially impregnated, but moisture can cause it to delaminate. All paints and varnishes choose for outdoor work, this will provide additional guarantees of the integrity of some materials. If you dry clothes on the balcony, you should consider a ventilation system.
If you choose a bookcase or cabinet for storing canned goods, in addition to the frame, you will need shelves and doors. Having made (or purchased) a rack from aluminum structures, you can select (order) roller shutters for it, and the furniture will look stylish. If the shelves are transformable or removable, this will provide additional comfort.

For other designs, it will be possible to choose hinged, sliding doors, sliding doors, or accordion doors. There is an option to make a cabinet with a door that covers one half of it, and leave the second part, with shelves, uncovered. If space allows, you can make cabinets on both sides, or alternatively it could be a wardrobe and a chest of drawers, a wardrobe and a shelf.

Volumes and shapes of a wardrobe for a balcony

In addition to standard solutions, you can try corner option cabinet - from floor to ceiling with upper separately opening mezzanines and lower pull-out shelves for shoes or small tools. To implement this solution, careful measurements and the golden hands of either the owner of the apartment or the craftsman who will receive the order will be required.

For those who want to make a small loggia winter Garden the best solution there will be a glass cabinet for heat-loving plants at the top with two lower compartments for garden tools. If you need to store small items on such a rack, you can use plastic containers instead of shelves.

A sofa with a cabinet seat and shelves above it, designed in the same style, will look great. The same shelves at the top and a tube or chest of drawers, up to the level of the window sill, will look no less stylish.

I would like to remind you that the part of the closet (or any other type of furniture you have chosen) located on the windowsill, or more precisely, above the window sill, must be thought out and not left “empty”, otherwise it will become a source of dirt accumulation and non-compliance with the laws of aesthetics.

Any possibility of growing indoor or other plants (wheat sprouts, for example) on the balcony is welcomed as the most rational and aesthetically attractive. To insulate the floor, you can put mats or any bathroom rugs on it. However, they have been producing special furniture for loggias and balconies, as well as floor coverings for a long time.

Tips for those who will build a cabinet themselves.

  1. To ensure that the design is reliable and retains its properties long time, the balcony (loggia) should be glazed and the floor screeded.
  2. Before purchasing materials, make a drawing to scale, taking into account the need to attach the profiles to the partitions.
  3. You will need to perform not only carpentry, but also plumbing operations. Assess your strengths before you start construction.
  4. Observe safety precautions when performing any type of work.
  5. By improving the appearance of your balcony, you achieve several goals: you acquire a new functional furniture, expand the living space, eliminate the source of clutter in the apartment, bring in creative solutions into your life!

Whether your balcony is covered with wood-like slabs or you paint the brick wall and cabinet doors brick red, whether you choose a general white or sandy background interspersed with greenery and plantings, whether you make metal structures the leader in aesthetics and add high-tech minimalism to the style, your decisions will be justified if you bring your plans to consistent successful implementation!

Regardless of the size of the living space, everyone has things that they want to hide away for a while. And if a niche or pantry no longer helps, there is a good solution - install a closet on the balcony, where it can fit a lot of stuff without disturbing anyone. It can also be used to store winter supplies, gardening and sports equipment, tools and even children's toys.

Wardrobe combined with finishing balcony space will make it not only cozy and convenient, but also reflect the resourcefulness and tastes of the owners. And the balcony, in turn, will not turn into a dump of all unnecessary things. “House of Dreams” invites its readers to learn about different options installing a cabinet on the balcony, types of materials and how to make it yourself.

Why and what type of wardrobe is needed on the balcony?

By installing a cabinet on a balcony or loggia, you will simultaneously solve several important problems:

  • get additional element interior;
  • you will find universal storage for various belongings;
  • make your balcony design interesting and unique.

The balcony closet can be of two types - built-in and free-standing. Depending on what you plan to store in it and how much space you have, you determine which cabinet is right for you.

As a rule, regardless of the design and size, its location is the end part of the loggia or balcony.

Most modern version Balcony furniture is a built-in wardrobe, of any size. It can be large, capacitive, multi-component and accommodate shelves of various heights, drawers, as well as hanging rods for jackets and coats. Or it can be small and compact.

On a narrow balcony, the most practical and convenient option would be a floor-to-ceiling corner cabinet. This design will create a beautiful design and allow you to rationally use the corner space, fitting a lot of things. Also don't forget that light shades visually increase the area.

Some versions of balcony cabinets may also include a seating area. Also, on a low cabinet you can organize a greenhouse, install an aquarium or a cage with a pet.

You can either buy a cabinet for storing vegetables on the balcony or make it yourself. It can be built-in or free-standing. The optimal temperature for “wintering” vegetables on the balcony is +1+5°C. Basic storage requirements – good insulation from the inside, ventilation, as well as separate sections for different types vegetables

IN modern interiors A free-standing wardrobe for a balcony is in little demand. But if you have recently changed furniture, do not rush to get rid of the old one - a wardrobe or cabinet will perfectly cope with the functions of a balcony closet. And with the help of modern finishing materials they can be restored beyond recognition.

The facade of the balcony cabinet is a reflection of the overall interior

Special attention should be paid to the cabinet doors. Depending on the opening system, they are:

  • swing;
  • roller shutters;
  • accordion doors;
  • compartment door.

The wardrobe with hinged doors is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Its main disadvantage is the inability to use the space occupied by an open door. But the advantages remain the same - the doors close tightly and are durable, and when open they provide an overview of the entire contents.

Wardrobes with roller shutters to the balcony captivate consumers with their space saving and large capacity. Aluminum doors will protect the contents of the cabinet from the hot sun, from moisture if the balcony is not insulated enough, as well as from the penetration of dust when the windows are open. Roller shutters are easy to install, do not require additional space when lifting, open to any height, are easy to clean and do not fade. Using airbrushing, you can transform them by choosing a design that suits your design.

The advantages of a plasterboard cabinet are its light weight and easy installation. Again, the material is not expensive, has high heat-shielding properties, but is susceptible to moisture and can be deformed upon impact.

The most optimal materials for the production of balcony furniture are chipboard and MDF. Thanks to the rich color scheme, such slabs are easy to match to the overall interior. You can assemble a cabinet whose façade will have a combination of several colors. Wood panels are extremely durable and affordable.

Everyone is more or less familiar with the peculiarities of storing things in an apartment. After all, here you need to place bulky winter things, winter storage, tools home handyman and various little things. But you don’t want to clutter up your living space—that’s why it’s worth making a closet on the balcony.

Types of popular designs

Among the common designs suitable for installation on a balcony are:

  • coupe;
  • closed modules with sliding or swing doors;
  • located at an angle;
  • closing roller shutters;
  • with accordion doors.

Lattice cabinet doors

A built-in wardrobe of a compartment type is optimal on a closed loggia, where there are 2 blank walls. If we are talking about open balcony, then it is better to install a floor cabinet. When very small areas are being landscaped, it is worth considering the option of a corner design.

Sliding doors save a lot of space

The door for the balcony closet is chosen especially carefully. The most optimal options from the point of view of saving space are roller shutters or an accordion assembled from small slats. They do not take up space, and can even be locked if desired. Hinged doors are chosen if there is a need for the entire width of the shelves when opening. And thanks to the sliding doors, the space inside the balcony is preserved, but you will not get access to the entire surface of the cabinet at once.

Hinged cabinet doors and shelves under the window sill

As for the design, for the cabinet on the balcony you can choose laminated chipboard facades that match the color of the interior decoration. You can also decorate the doors with mirrors, bamboo panels or self-adhesive film. By the way, the film can also be used to decorate shelves.

Preparatory work

Before you start assembling the balcony cabinet, you need to decide on its dimensions. Usually the entire height and width of the balcony is used for furniture. Ceiling-height compartments allow for much more storage. The average balcony allows you to place a cabinet 2.4 m high, 0.6 m deep and 1.2 m wide. As a rule, the internal space is divided into 2 sections.

As for materials and components, for self-assembly of a balcony cabinet you will need:

  • laminated chipboard sheets with increased moisture resistance characteristics;
  • transverse and longitudinal bars for the frame;
  • roller shutters or selected hinged doors;
  • plywood and metal corners for shelves;
  • hardware, fasteners - self-tapping screws, screws, nails.

High shelves

Tools will also come in handy: a building level, a tape measure, a pencil for markings, a screwdriver and a drill with drills for working on concrete and wood, paint, varnish for woodworking, a brush, a hacksaw, and a hammer.

Horizontal shelves and upper mezzanines

Keep in mind that it is recommended to install furniture only on a glazed and insulated balcony, otherwise it will quickly become unusable. In addition, you will need to level the floor and walls so that the load on furniture design distributed evenly. And don't forget to draw up the design on paper before you start purchasing materials or assembling. Just take into account the permissible load on the floor slab - the welded one is too heavy and bulky metal structure it may not withstand it, and therefore preference is given to chipboard or lightweight plastic, and balcony surfaces are used as side walls.

Two-piece cabinet - easier to install

Advice. If assembling a cabinet on a balcony is your first such experiment, then before cutting the material, it is recommended to cut out all the parts from thick cardboard and assemble a model. This way you can calculate the required amount of fasteners, and the cardboard blanks will subsequently be used as layouts for cutting.

How to assemble a wardrobe on the balcony

The process of assembling furniture from chipboard consists of the following steps:

  1. The laminated chipboard is marked into fragments of the required dimensions.
  2. The frame is marked and assembled.
  3. Partitions and shelves are installed.
  4. The doors are made and attached.
  5. Wooden structural elements are painted or varnished.

Advice. High-quality cutting of laminated chipboard at home is not always possible. There will be a risk of damage to the end guard or an uneven cut. It is better to entrust this operation to a professional furniture workshop, where the cut is performed by specialists on a machine that ensures an accurate and even cut. You should attach a project to your order, which will indicate the number and dimensions of the required fragments.

Plastic door

After delivery of the sawn pieces of chipboard, the assembly process begins. Before this, make a pencil mark on balcony slabs. Then the bars are fixed to the slabs - it turns out that they will separate 2 rectangles at the top and bottom. After this, the side walls of the future cabinet are screwed to the transverse segments, and then they are supplemented with ceiling and floor slabs.

Sliding doors need to be installed especially carefully

The next assembly stage is the installation of the central crossbar and shelves:

  • partitions in the closet are attached to the beams using corners;
  • it is necessary to attach a stiffener to the walls of the section with shelves - for this, corners and self-tapping screws are used;
  • They begin to install the shelves - the first to install is the one that will be in the center, level with the balcony railings.

Balcony cabinet made of plastic

Assembly continues by hanging the doors. They can be made by hand from lightweight plywood and then hinged at the ends using screws. You should first attach the fastening to the door, and then to the general frame of the cabinet. It is important to ensure that the facades and the frame completely coincide, and that there is a tight fit between the door panels and the ends of the walls. If you do not make the doors yourself, but use ready-made ones, for example, roller shutters, then they are already supplied with fasteners and an installation diagram - it is only important to follow the instructions, and the work will be completed successfully.

Cabinet doors made of laminated chipboard

Before loading the cabinet on the loggia with winter supplies or rarely used items, all wooden parts should be painted or varnished. This will protect the structures from moisture. Experts recommend creating 2-3 layers of tinting varnish.

Open top cabinet

This completes the assembly work, and you can use the balcony cabinet for its intended purpose, freeing up space in the apartment.

In the next article we will choose - compartments, corner ones, with open and closed facades.

In apartments with a small area, it is a common occurrence when there is clearly not enough space to store things that are not used. Everyday life, to should be within walking distance. Therefore, many apartment owners quite often install cabinets for this purpose, providing them with numerous compartments and shelves. Similar solution This is possible only in cases where the balcony is protected from precipitation and wind, otherwise such furniture, alas, will not last long.

Buying furniture for a balcony is an almost futile task, since it is very difficult to choose the desired model. Ordering a product from a craftsman is a rather expensive “pleasure”. The solution is simple - mobilize your own strength and skills. And in order to figure out how to make a wardrobe on the balcony with your own hands, you first need to consider several options for this piece of furniture, and then study step by step instructions its manufacture. We hope that after reading this publication, a visitor to our portal will be able to choose the model that is most suitable for a particular balcony in terms of parameters, style, and the creative potential of the home craftsman.

Examples of cabinet models for balconies and loggias

There are many models of cabinets for placement on the balcony, and which one to choose depends on the taste of the apartment owner, the size of the balcony, as well as the desired capacity of this piece of furniture. Next, we will consider model options that make sense to pay attention to.

First option

This cabinet, which has three compartments, is installed in a fairly wide room, but if the balcony or loggia is narrow, then it can be reduced to two compartments. The advantage of such a piece of furniture is its aesthetic appearance and the ability to use the open upper part as a stand for flowerpots or decorative vases, as well as for other objects decorating the interior of this room.

The cabinet doors are made of narrow lining installed across, which visually expands the space. Such door panels can be decorated to look like louvered shutters - they are more difficult to do manually, but they look more impressive and interesting. In the version shown in the illustration, the lining is additionally decorated with paintings in Japanese style, which sets the direction for the design of the entire room. Since the piece of furniture offered to your attention is quite voluminous, it can be used not only as a simple storage for unnecessary items. this moment things or cans of homemade preserves, but also as a full-fledged wardrobe. The last option is possible if, and there is no risk of dampness penetrating it.

The internal design of this cabinet model is arranged according to the preference of the master. For example, in a large compartment you can make a compartment with hangers, and in narrower ones you can install regular shelves.

Second option

Wardrobe made of chipboard and equipped with compartment doors, lined plastic panels, can also only be installed on an insulated balcony. Dampness negatively affects particle boards - they begin to warp under the influence of excess humidity, and the cabinet will not last for a long time.

This model can also be used as a wardrobe, which will free up significant space in the apartment. The convenience of sliding cabinet doors is obvious, as they save space, and such a piece of furniture can even be installed right next to front door to the balcony. Such a cabinet is usually ordered from a furniture company, but if you wish, you can make it yourself by purchasing required material and guides for sliding doors. As you can see, the closet is quite spacious and has a large number of compartments, including for things hung on hangers. This product fits perfectly into the designated area of the balcony and looks very neat and compact.

Install wardrobe doors yourself? Difficult, but quite possible!

If you purchase a special kit from a furniture store and follow the technological recommendations for manufacturing, then everything should work out. Detailed illustrated instructions for calculations and - in a special publication on our portal.

Third option

Natural wood is the most popular material for the manufacture of balcony furniture, because it is easier and more pleasant to work with, and also because it is environmentally friendly and does not emit fumes harmful to humans, unlike panels made using various adhesives and binding resins . In addition, properly treated wood will last much longer than chipboard or plywood.

The cabinet, made of wood impregnated with special moisture-repellent compounds, is not afraid of temperature changes, so it can be installed even on an open balcony. Wood is a breathable material, so less moisture will be retained inside a product made from it.

The version offered to your attention is a model of a cabinet with four doors, and it can be called quite complex in design, since you will have to adjust not two panels to each other, but four. However, the advantage similar design is that you can open only one part of the cabinet without “showing off” what is in another section. Although, this point is most often not fundamental, so it is quite possible to choose such a model if you simply liked it for its functionality. If you have no experience in carpentry, then making such a cabinet and perfectly fitting all its elements to each other will be quite difficult.

Fourth option

This cabinet is also a cabinet with an open surface, which can serve as a convenient table or stand for indoor flowers. In addition, a cabinet installed in this way will not cover the windows. The lining of the cabinet doors looks very aesthetically pleasing; it is made like a blind, which makes it possible to ventilate its internal space.

Despite the fact that the cabinet compartments differ in their height, it is quite spacious and can be used to store preparations for the winter, and, of course, other things that do not have a place in the drawers and cabinets inside the apartment. If the balcony is completely covered with wooden paneling, then the cabinet will fit perfectly into the interior of the room.

Fifth option

This balcony cabinet is perfect for a narrow room, or for the option when you need to make the window sill very wide, for example, if you plan to grow indoor flowers and you need to prepare enough space for their installation. Top part The cabinet is expanded due to the width of the window sill, and it can be closed with a solid wall.

There is nothing wrong with this - you will notice that the depth of the closed section of the cabinet is not too deep, so items can be placed in this area through the open door. This model is roomy and neat at the same time. Its doors and walls are lined with narrow wooden paneling, fixed horizontally, which contributes to the visual expansion of the room. In this case, the area of a narrow room is used quite rationally, so owners of apartments with a loggia or balcony of approximately the same proportion should pay special attention to such a piece of furniture.

Sixth option

Another cabinet model that can be made entirely of plastic panels mounted on a wooden frame mounted from timber. The product is divided into upper and lower parts, which have their own sliding doors.

The design of this model is quite complex for self-production. Therefore, if you like this particular option, then it is better to entrust it to professional craftsmen, who will make it according to the exact dimensions taken from the installation site, and also assemble it into a single structure. However, “it’s not the gods who burn the pots” - you can try it yourself.

Seventh option

Open shelves on the balcony are the simplest option for an improvised closet with several wide and spacious compartments that will fit perfectly in your home. end wall premises. The frame for the shelves is quite easy to attach to the wall, ceiling and floor, and after the vertical structural elements are fastened with horizontal jumpers - shelf supports, the entire structure will acquire the necessary rigidity.

The main thing is to set the support bars for the shelves perfectly horizontally, and at the same height relative to each other - this process is controlled by construction level. Otherwise, in case of an error, the shelves will go awry, and the entire structure will look extremely sloppy.

After the frame is ready, a flooring of boards is attached to the horizontal bars using self-tapping screws or nails, which will form the shelves. The whole difficulty of installing the prepared structural elements lies in the fact that all its parts are marked and aligned strictly vertically or horizontally before fixing them.

Such open cabinet Even an inexperienced master can do it. The option presented in the illustration can rather be called not a cabinet, but a rack, but if desired, on the window side it can be covered with plastic panels or a curtain attached to the upper part of the structure. Usually, for this purpose, the Roman design of curtains or blinds is chosen, which from the street will look like a smooth panel. Over time, you will also want to close the front part of the rack, since all the things stacked on the shelves will create a feeling of disorder. For this purpose, it is easiest and cheapest to choose curtains, but you can also use blinds made of aluminum.

wardrobe on the balcony

How can you curtain your windows in an original and beautiful way?

The simplest materials and tools, maximum effort and patience - and without special costs your windows will be decorated with pleated blinds, Roman or Venetian blinds. How to make it yourself is described in detail in a special publication on our portal.

Making a wardrobe for the balcony with your own hands

Drawing up a cabinet drawing

When the desired cabinet option is selected, it is necessary to draw up its drawing. Perhaps one of the designs presented below will be suitable, since these pieces of furniture are intended specifically for installation on a balcony.

This cabinet does not require the installation of doors, but if desired, you can calculate their size and installation. The doors in this case can be hinged or compartment, and both the first and second structures will be attached to the front frame.

This wardrobe drawing is suitable for a wider balcony, and is designed to use its larger compartment for storing clothes placed on hangers. This option can only be installed on a well-insulated, or better yet, heated balcony.

And this is a drawing of a model that is well suited for a narrow balcony or if you plan to install a cabinet or table next to the cabinet. The drawing shows the dimensions of all compartments, as well as the doors that cover the top and bottom of the cabinet separately. Additionally, in each of the cabinet sections, removable shelves can be installed in the corners, which will allow you to place more things in it.

Based on the presented drawings, you can draw up own project, complementing it with the desired details, changing the parameters of the cabinet to a certain size of the balcony. it should be noted that even standard width The premises can be changed due to the use of different insulation systems. Therefore, each cabinet option is individual in size, but it is quite possible to take one of the presented designs as a basis for it.

It is absolutely not necessary to carry out the drawing according to all the rules - it is enough to make a drawing that is understandable to the master and put on it all the dimensions determined by the parameters of the balcony. In the same figure, it is necessary to list all the design details indicating their parameters. Having such a visual guide before your eyes, it will not be so difficult to make necessary preparations, and then assemble them in the right order into the finished product. Of course, for this you must have at least minimal experience working with carpentry tools, as well as with the materials from which the cabinet will be made.

Using a ready-made or hand-drawn drawing, it is quite possible to make a cabinet from wood, chipboard, plywood, or use several of these materials in combination.

When drawing up a drawing, it is necessary to determine not only the dimensional parameters of the balcony, but also what exactly will be stored in the closet, since this factor will influence how many shelves are required and what distance should be provided between them.

If we talk about generally accepted dimensions, the standard cabinet depth is usually 600 mm, and the width should correspond to the width of the balcony. In order for the cabinet to be stable and have good rigidity, it is best if its height is from floor to ceiling, where its frame should be fixed. In addition, such a cabinet will allow you to rationally use all the space allocated for it.

The following dimensions can be called universal cabinet parameters, which can be adjusted to suit a specific room:

— height — 2400÷2500 mm;

— width — 1100÷1250 mm;

— depth — 450÷600 mm;

— the distance between shelves is usually 340÷370 mm.

If you want to get a cabinet on your balcony comparable to what was made by professionals, then it is best to entrust the manufacture of its parts to craftsmen who can carefully process all the edges, cut out the necessary grooves and recesses for the hinges. However, if the owner has a manual electric router at his disposal, then these operations can be carried out on his own.

Materials and tools

You need to know what materials may be needed to build a cabinet. Their specific quantity will depend on the model chosen for production:

  • For a wooden frame you will need a beam with a cross section of 40×40 mm.
  • Instead of timber, in some cases a galvanized metal profile can be used, such as is used when installing plasterboard systems.
  • If selected wooden lining, then its thickness should not exceed 8÷10 mm.
  • When choosing plywood and chipboard for cladding, it is necessary to purchase moisture-resistant panels with a thickness of 10 ÷ 12 mm.
  • You will need metal corners for assembling the frame and furniture corners for assembling wood and chipboard blanks.
  • Fasteners required - screws, nails and dowels.

If you decide to do all the work from start to finish yourself, then the tools you will need to prepare are:

  • Electric jigsaw, manual a circular saw or hacksaws with different tooth sizes.
  • Electric drill with wood drill bits.
  • To bring details to perfection - manually milling machine and a sanding machine.
  • A screwdriver or a set of screwdrivers.
  • Hammer and chisel.
  • Building level and square, plumb line, metal ruler, tape measure, pencil.

In order not to spoil the material prepared for the cabinet, it is necessary to take very accurate measurements, that is, literally follow the proverb - “measure twice, cut once.”

Making a cabinet

It is recommended to manufacture the cabinet on a balcony that has already been insulated and lined with clapboard, therefore, when making lathing for finishing the walls, it is necessary to foresee the location of the cabinet and its design in advance - then the frame of the product will be fixed more securely.

The simplest and in an accessible way building a cabinet is a technique of securing its parts to a common frame. Therefore, this particular option for manufacturing this piece of furniture will be considered step by step:

Illustration
The first step is to mark the location for installing the frame, according to the drawing of the selected cabinet model.
The work is carried out using a ruler with constant monitoring of the building level and plumb.
If the cabinet is planned to be installed at the entire height of the balcony, then first of all the markings are applied to the ceiling and then transferred to the floor.
The lower lines of the frame are determined in accordance with the upper markings using a plumb line. To do this, the plumb line is held at the ceiling marking points, and the weight is lowered to the floor, and thus the place where the lower part of the frame structure will be fixed is precisely marked on the floor.
This marking is necessary to ensure that the base of the cabinet is level, without distortion.
Next, the upper and lower markings are combined by vertical lines drawn on the walls - it would also be a good idea to check these directions using a building level to completely eliminate errors.
After this, marking and drawing lines are carried out for the horizontal parts of the frame - crossbars. The intermediate elements of the sheathing are fixed at the required height at which the cabinet shelves should be installed.
The future position of horizontal parts is also carefully checked by level.
The frame depends on how smoothly and reliably the frame is installed and secured. general form, and the strength of the cabinet, so marking on site is a very responsible process.
Next, the frame parts are prepared according to the drawing.
Most often, a wooden beam is used for it, but in some cases the master chooses a galvanized metal profile.
Preparation of frame elements from timber is carried out using electric jigsaw, and from metal profiles they are cut using metal scissors.
The next step is to secure the ceiling and floor sections of the frame.
Next, the resulting rectangles are connected by vertical posts, which are aligned to the building level and secured to the walls using self-tapping screws installed in increments of 350÷400 mm.
After this, the intermediate horizontal crossbars of the frame are fixed along the marked lines and points marked on the walls and vertical posts.
Horizontal elements are designed to lay and secure shelves, and they also help to increase structural rigidity.
Horizontal parts are usually fixed with screws to vertical posts by using metal corners, mounted on the underside of a horizontal beam.
It is not necessary to use more complex connections, for example, tapping, under these conditions.
If for some reason there is no long beam that will fit the entire height of the balcony, then the frame can also be assembled from shorter sections, fixed alternately on top of each other. In this case, vertical and horizontal structural parts are mounted simultaneously.
Such a frame assembly system is acceptable if the prefabricated frame is mounted on the wall. If one of the sides of the frame is free, then it is necessary to use a solid beam for it.
The next step is to attach the shelves to the frame.
They can consist of boards, tightly laid side by side and screwed flush to the beam with self-tapping screws, or of plywood 10-12 mm thick.
The edges of the boards or plywood should be well processed with a router.
Next, doors for the cabinet are made.
Their size is calculated after measuring the cabinet doorway, taking into account the installation of hinges.
If you plan to install two doors that will fit together when closing the cabinet, their size is determined at the same time, and they are adjusted to each other by fitting.
Sometimes the door leaf is made like a blind - this option looks quite aesthetically pleasing and original. How door trim is done using this technique will be described below.
Doors can be assembled from boards fixed to the frame vertically or horizontally, or inserted into it using the tongue-and-groove principle.
To do this, a groove is selected in the guide boards with a milling cutter, and tenons are cut out on the boards.
For such cladding, lining with a width of 50÷60 mm is most often taken.
The door frame for a cabinet on the balcony can also be covered with plastic lining.
It will look especially good in a room completely decorated with the same material.
A plastic door is lightweight and does not require a frame made of massive and heavy timber. A board 12÷15 mm thick will be enough.
Connecting elements door frame at the corners it is made in half a tree or in half a tree in the “darkness”, that is, a blind groove is cut out for the tenon, not reaching the edge of the board. In this joining option, the tenon rests on the undamaged edge perpendicular to the installed frame board.
When making a frame structure, be sure to install a middle section, which will make it more rigid and reliable.
Often, a different design is chosen for the cabinet door on the balcony - thin tongue-and-groove boards or even lining the right size They are collected with glue and tightened in clamps until it dries completely.
Then such a shield is reinforced with jumpers.
To do this with inside glued lining, two boards are fixed across the structure, which will more reliably fasten the boards of the assembled panel together. At the same time, they retreat from the upper and lower edges of the door by 150÷170 mm.
With this approach, the installation of horizontal parts must be calculated so that they do not rest against the already installed cabinet shelves.
The doors can be secured in the doorway of the building with ordinary “butterfly” hinges, which will need to be deepened into the wood to the thickness of the plate.
This must be done so that there is no formation between the opening board and the door. big gap, but at the same time, they did not interfere with each other when closing and opening the door.
Another option is furniture hinges, for which you will need to select a round groove into which the so-called cup of this element is installed.
This socket is selected with a router or a core drill installed in a screwdriver or drill.
It should be noted that such furniture hinge options are most often used for cabinets made of chipboard.
Any fastening loops are secured to the cabinet parts using self-tapping screws, screwed into holes of a smaller diameter pre-designated for them.
The last step is to mark and drill holes to secure the handles, which are installed on screws screwed into the back of the door.
If the walls and shelves of the cabinet are made of chipboard panels, then they can be fixed to the frame or connected to each other using furniture corners.
They are fixed with screws screwed into special metal inserts with internal thread, for which holes of the required diameter are drilled in the cabinet panels.
Another, simpler option is to use special plastic or metal furniture corners, which are fixed with ordinary self-tapping screws.
Most often, cabinets made of chipboard are ordered from a furniture company, according to the dimensions taken from the area where the cabinet is installed on the balcony. In this case, the manufacturer usually takes on the work of assembling the piece of furniture.
However, such a cabinet will cost much more than one made independently.

Making cabinet doors using blinds

Louvre grilles, which are often used to decorate the doors of cabinets on the balcony, look aesthetically pleasing and original. In addition, they provide the opportunity to constantly ventilate the internal space, which helps maintain in good condition things placed in the closet, as well as the piece of furniture itself. It should be noted that using the same principle it is quite possible to make not only cabinet doors, but also shutters for balcony windows, which will perfectly protect the premises from the hot sun, as well as create a comfortable atmosphere for relaxation.

The photo table shown gives general idea O step-by-step implementation work on a door made like a blind. Below are more detailed recommendations for performing assembly operations.

IllustrationBrief description of the operation performed
This photo clearly shows the design of the frame with a louvered grille installed inside it.
In this case, the frame is assembled using dowels mounted with glue, but here you need to take into account that the frame is assembled simultaneously with the installation of the elements (slats) of the blinds into it.
Lamels for the grating are made by cutting timber into slats 5÷6 mm thick. Their length is calculated by the width of the frame, taking into account the depth of the grooves into which they will be inserted on both sides.
The grooves usually have a depth of 6÷7 mm, and the lamellas are fixed in them with wood glue.
To calculate the number of lattice elements that will be needed to decorate the door of a balcony cabinet, you need to attach one of them with its end side to the frame at the desired angle of inclination, and then measure the distance that the lamella occupies from the total length of the opening.
Next, the length of the internal opening of the frame must be divided by the resulting distance.
The result should be the number of necessary lamellas that need to be prepared in order to cover the internal space of the frame with the selected frequency.
When calculating the number of lamellas, a non-integer number is rounded up or down to a whole number.
After the required number of slats has been found, the long sides of the frame are divided into it and marked with a pencil.
Based on the resulting markings, it is necessary to mill the grooves. To ensure that they are even on both sides of the frame, when milling, a special jig device is used, consisting of two bars, between which the side blank for the door frame is installed and clamped.
A special frame is fixed to the fixing bars, which will limit the movement of the manual router - it is fixed at the angle chosen for installing the lamella. The guides are installed at a distance in width from each other, corresponding to the width of the base (platform) of the router, and their length limits the size of the groove cut for installing the lamellas.
As you can see in the photo, cuts are made on the fixing bars, allowing you to move the workpiece to the required distance, and then secure it while the groove is milled.
In order not to spoil the main part of the frame, it is necessary to carry out test milling on a section of any timber and thus make sure that the device is installed correctly.
When the grooves for installing the lamellas have been completely selected, all elements of the frame must be processed with a grinding machine, placing sandpaper on it with a grit of No. 400, and then 600 ÷ 800.
If you don’t have a sander, you can do this work manually by attaching sandpaper to a piece of wood.
The next step is to assemble all the parts into a single structure using wood glue.
After the entire door is assembled, it is tightened with clamps until the glue dries completely.
The final stage of work is painting the door in the chosen color.
It is best to carry out this process using a spray gun - this way the paint will lie evenly over the entire surface of the product.
If the texture of the wood is beautiful, then many craftsmen prefer to cover it with paint and use transparent furniture varnishes.

As you can see from the above, making a cabinet for a balcony is not the easiest task. However, if you want to save money and try your hand at carpentry, then you need to carry out all the work slowly, carefully marking, adjusting every detail to established sizes, spending general installation in accordance with technological recommendations.

At the end of the publication, there is a short video showing the manufacture of a simple cabinet on a balcony using furniture chipboard panels.
