Metal lid with hinges

The design is a frame made of metal corners or profiles, covered with textolite, with a hatch in the center. It is irrational to make a product entirely from metal; it will be very heavy. Any shape of the well cover is allowed, but it is easier to make a rectangular structure.

You will need the following materials:

• Metal corners;
• Profiles with square section;
• Metal tape having a width of 40-50 mm;
• Textolite fabric;
• Hinges and handles;
• Metal sealant and paint.

Sequence of making a rectangular lid:

1. Measure the dimensions of the shaft head and add 10 cm to each side.
2. Using the obtained values, cut 4 metal corners from the blanks.
3. Weld them into a rectangular frame for the stationary part of the lid, which is intended for installation on the head of the well.
4. Clean the weld areas with a grinder.
5. Weld another frame of the same size from the corners (under the hatch).
6. Cut sections of the profile pipe and weld them inside the hatch frame around the perimeter of the product (at the corners) and also crosswise. Clean the welding areas and coat with primer.
7. Cut 2 sheets of textolite according to the size of the sash.
8. Install the panels on the frame, top and bottom, secure with self-tapping screws. For insulation, place a heat insulator between the sheets - polystyrene foam, basalt wool etc.
9. Wrap metal tape around the concrete cap.
10. Collect along the perimeter of the mine wooden formwork. Its dimensions must correspond to the dimensions of the fixed part of the structure.
11. Fill the gap between the formwork and the metal strip with concrete.
12. Install the previously made metal frame onto the structure and secure it with core bolts.
13. After the concrete has hardened, place the hatch on the stationary part and screw the hinges to lift it.
14. Fix the handle to the PCB.
15. Paint all metal parts of the structure with enamel.

Concrete cover for well

This product is intended for wells made of concrete rings, the heads of which are not planned to be improved. A hole is made in the center of the slab, closed with a wooden or metal hatch. Instead, you can build a wooden house over the mine.

The concrete cover is made as follows:

• Dig a circular hole 100mm deep. Its diameter must correspond to the outer diameter of the concrete rings.
• Cover the bottom and walls with PVC film.

• Prepare a concrete solution and fill the hole with a layer of 5 cm.
• Place reinforcement mesh over the mixture.
• Fill the hole to the top with concrete.
• Level the surface.

• Seal the gaps between the slab and the ring with cement mortar.
• Make a hatch and secure it to the product with hinges. The door is made of wood or textolite, as described above.

DIY well house

Instead of a hatch, you can build a top in the form of a house with a gable roof above the neck of the well. 4. Install the frame at the end of the well shaft so that the beam with a cross-section of 80x80 mm is located horizontally, and the thin slats rest on the upper ring of the shaft.
5. Attach the bars to the neck in any way.
6. Sew one long side and both short sides of the canopy with lumber, nailing it to the frame.
7. Make a hole in the board on one short side for the gate. On the side walls all the blanks will be various sizes, so each element will have to be measured locally before installation.

Attach doors on the open side of the house. Perform the following operations:

• Fasten two bars in the open opening that determine the width of the sash.
• Make a frame for the sash, the dimensions of which should be slightly smaller than the opening on the canopy. Cover it with boards, and they should extend beyond the frame bars. To strengthen it, nail another strip in the middle of the door.

Install insulation between the resulting PCB sheets, then fasten them together using self-tapping screws, and cover the seams with a layer of sealant. The result is a cover that must be connected to the frame using regular hinges. To install the hinges, you can use the welding or bolting method. To install the cover from boards, form a formwork on the well and cement it. After installing the frame with a cover, cover the surface with a layer of concrete or cement. Now we cut out two sheets of textolite suitable size and fasten them with self-tapping screws. Don’t forget to put insulation between the blanks. To prevent heat loss, we treat the seams with sealant.

After this, we create a base from steel corners and sheet iron on which the metal cover for the well will be installed. To do this, we assemble a frame from corner elements, inside which we install a circle bent from sheet metal.

We place the resulting base on the well and install the formwork. It should be filled with concrete. Two to three days after pouring, you can begin attaching the coating.

This will require metal hinges. We weld or bolt them to the base. To make it easier to open the sash, we attach a handle to it.

Wooden cover

• wood is stuffed on top of two parallel bars, the material is placed as tightly as possible;
• on the wrong side, to give greater rigidity, it is recommended to nail another block, placing it diagonally;
• the canvas is processed: sanded, chamfered, if necessary, the shield is made round (using a grinder);
• all existing gaps in the cover must be sealed with sealant;
• At the final stage, the structure is varnished.

For ease of use of the lid, one or more handles are attached on top wooden canvas. If necessary it is possible to make a version with a hinged sash. The main work is repeated. Again, if desired, an additional layer of thermal insulation is provided, for which insulation - EPS (extruded polystyrene foam) - is attached to the underside of the lid. Combined option - metal and textolite

Such a self-made well cover requires much more effort, since you will have to use a welding machine, a grinder to process the seams, concrete screed fixed part at the top of the well. The movable structure is made of metal elements– pipes rectangular section, and PCB is also used.

Now a little more detail about how to make a lid for a well yourself, or rather, its lower part. To do this, in accordance with the dimensions of the finished frame, formwork is prepared around the head of the well. On top wooden structure The lower part of the frame is attached from the corners. A metal strip should be installed along the very edge of the well head, trying to give it a rounded shape. Concrete mixture is poured into the created empty space between the formwork and the tape.

Upon completion of this work and after the resulting structure has completely hardened and settled, you can attach a frame made of profile pipes and textolite. This is done using two loops. Reinforced concrete structure

6. Seams are necessary between the well and reinforced concrete structure seal with cement mortar.
7. In place of the window, a sash made of metal, wood, or plastic is installed in the concrete cover, depending on preference.

All of the lid options described have their pros and cons. When choosing a suitable solution, you should take into account your capabilities, the availability of free time for its implementation, the degree of convenience in operating the structure and the length of its service life. The most susceptible to weather conditions is the wooden lid, however, it is this option that looks the most attractive in appearance when properly treated with paints and varnishes.
