Beautiful kitchen design without upper cabinets, photos of finished options. Kitchen design without upper cabinets: kitchen interior with hood Kitchen with a minimum of wall cabinets

The choice of kitchen sets in modern furniture stores is very large, so creating your own unique kitchen design is very easy. Relatively recently, designers came up with a new “trick” in the design of the cooking area - a kitchen without upper cabinets. At first glance, it seems that such a “defective” design is not very appropriate and functional, but in practice everything looks different.

Advantages and disadvantages

Kitchen without wall cabinets- this is interesting and unusual solution, in creating apartment design. Despite the established stereotypes in terms of two-tier headsets, such models are quite popular.

The advantages of sets without hanging cabinets:

  • Additional space and visual spaciousness of the room. It looks very great if the kitchen is small enough.
  • Maximum placement options (without cabinets at the top, sets can be placed even under the window).
  • Maximum light in the kitchen. Without hanging cabinets, the light from the chandelier will reach the cooking area evenly and additional lighting may not be useful.
  • Lack of dust collectors. Due to the fact that classic headsets have a large height, it can be very difficult to get to the very top, so dust accumulates there. Modern model without a top, it won’t “force” you to constantly climb and check for dust.
  • Availability. The kitchen set has standard height, which is why petite housewives often have to stand on their toes or prop up a chair to get the next cup.
  • Financial savings. A single-tier set has a lower cost.
  • Safety. If the top cabinet is secured poorly or the permissible weight of its contents is exceeded, it may fall.

In addition, it is possible to note the possibility original decor free wall above the work area: paintings, shelves, photographs, etc.

Layout types

You can decorate a kitchen using a single-level set yourself, knowing the rules and types of layout. There are 4 options:

  • Linear. A classic option for a spacious or narrow kitchen. As you can see in the photo, the set is located along the longest wall.

  • In the form of the letter “G” or angular. One of the most common options kitchen design, as it takes up minimal space.

  • Parallel arrangement. Small white kitchen V classic style on one side of which there are standard floor cabinets, and on the other - column cabinets that practically dissolve in space.

  • Ostrovny. Interesting option design for a small kitchen area, in which work zone located in the center, and along the walls there are shelves or column cabinets

  • U-shaped. An option that can be implemented both in a spacious kitchen and in a “Khrushchev”

Interior decoration

For a one-level kitchen to be not only practical, but also beautiful, it needs to be properly decorated. It's especially worth looking at a backsplash without upper cabinets, as it will be very eye-catching if left untouched.

The decoration of the wall above the work area should consist of correctly selected and quality materials, such as ceramics, natural stone or heat-resistant glass. This point is very important because regular wallpaper impractical in this location.

Apron design options:

  • Glass surface with photo printing;

  • Glass panel or mosaic;

  • Laminated MDF or chipboard.

When designing a kitchen area, it is very important to think about the lighting in the cooking area. Perfect option– wall movable lamps.

How can I replace wall cabinets?

If you prefer a one-level kitchen, but don’t want to have a completely empty wall, then you can try replacing standard wall cabinets with something. Several interesting options for replacement:

  • Column cabinet. A very convenient, albeit bulky thing. The main advantage is the ability to integrate a wide variety of kitchen appliances into it. Column cabinets are usually located opposite the headset or on both sides floor cabinets

  • Open shelves. A light and airy alternative to bulky hanging cabinets, most often used in the Provence style. The shelves can be used to store beautiful dishes or jars of loose seasonings.

  • Buffet, sideboard, rack, pencil case. Whatever you choose from this list, follow the style and color design kitchen area.

  • Railings. Almost the same as open shelves, only this design is lighter and is made of metal. On the rails you can not only arrange, but also hang objects (scoops, potholders, spatulas, towels).

As you can see from the above, there are plenty of alternatives to wall cabinets, so don’t be afraid of single-level kitchens, thinking that you will have very little space left to store kitchen appliances.

How to decorate walls

We have sorted out how to replace the cabinets, now you can go deeper into this issue a little more and look at examples of how you can decorate empty walls. The finishing of the vertical surface above the work area should not blend into the space, so it can and should be decorated in a special way.

Several interesting wall design options in the most different styles:

  • Ceramic mosaic. In black, this apron design looks very impressive. In this example, the kitchen is made in the style of “minimalism”. The other walls blend perfectly with the work area, as they are painted in a similar silver-gray color.

  • Laminated panel made of chipboard. The wood apron looks very beautiful, and due to the contrasting color, it helps to zone the space, highlighting the work area against the white background of the remaining walls and ceiling.

  • Wood panels made of the same material and identical color as kitchen set. above the food storage and eating area. Stone contrast wall above the cooking area is identical to the hob and dining table. This design looks chic and quite practical.

  • Rough masonry in the loft style it looks original and very cozy; goes well with wood panels and metal modern kitchen furniture.

  • Orange mood in the Provence style. Brick wall and functional racks for dishes harmonize perfectly and look rustic and cute.

Modern

A kitchen decorated in this modern style is a true work of art. Uniqueness this design consists of such features as:

Art Nouveau design is geometrically different the right furniture with glossy surfaces made of metal, glass and plastic. Lighting should be presented in a classic version: a large chandelier and single lamps. It is also possible to use LEDs for illumination.

An example of classical modernism with bright accents(Fig. 19). The design of this kitchen looks smart and stylish. Rectangular white furniture with black countertops, a classic chandelier and floor, bright spots in the form of gilded chairs and original mosaic above the work area is the key to successful design in the Art Nouveau style.

The lack of wall cabinets comes with some inconveniences, but appearance The premises are transformed for the better.

To create the most convenient and original project, the designer temporarily transforms into the mistress of the house and imagines himself in her place. Women sometimes have to cook quickly and a lot, but the food must be tasty and beautifully presented. Food can meet all these requirements only in a comfortable cooking zone.

It is difficult to surprise modern housewives with a “kitchen-kitchen”; today they want a bright and airy space in which it is not only convenient to cook, but also pleasant to spend some time completely alone with a cup of coffee.

Kitchen layout options without upper cabinets

The decision to eliminate kitchen upper cabinets requires layout changes. If the project is competent, the housewife will not experience discomfort during the cooking process. Layout kitchen furniture There are several types.

Linear - working modules are installed along one wall. This arrangement is very convenient due to the fact that hob, the sink and cutting surface are on the same line. The lack of upper cabinets can be compensated for by decorative compositions:

  • ;
  • panel;
  • paintings;
  • ;
  • wall clock.

All interior elements should be selected so that they do not create a clutter, but decorate the space. Opposite the modules you can place a pencil case, which will contain all the kitchen utensils.

Everything you need has now moved down, and you will have to bend over much more often, increasing the load on the muscles of your back and legs. On the one hand, this is a disadvantage, on the other hand, it is a plus, since unnecessary movements have never harmed anyone.

Advice! If the housewife does not have enough time for daily thorough cleaning, it is better to abandon such a layout.

Kitchen without upper cabinets: ideas for storing utensils

Typically, wall cabinets are filled with dishes and bulk products. A free-standing buffet can easily replace bulky upper modules. Moreover, the color and style of the buffet does not have to match the rest of the furniture.

The best option is arrangement of the pantry, which will simultaneously be a storage area for pots, jars and food supplies. The storage room can be equipped in one of the corners or in a niche, if available.

Every housewife strives to arrange her kitchen as rationally as possible, choosing functional pieces of furniture and the right storage systems that will not clutter up the free space of the room. But sometimes you really want to break the established stereotypes and turn the kitchen into something special, get away from traditional interior, show your imagination and decorate the room, guided by bold and unusual ideas. A fashionable trend these days is kitchen design without upper cabinets, photos of which amaze even the wildest imagination. At first glance, a single-level furniture arrangement seems unusual and non-functional, but the maximum free space, light and air make it possible to realize interesting creative ideas.

When you get excited about the idea of radically changing the interior of your kitchen, the first thing you should evaluate is the area of the room and the height of the ceilings. It’s difficult to “accelerate” at six meters, especially if you still have the habit of storing a lot of necessary things in all kinds of cabinets and drawers. In this case, a kitchen without upper cabinets is unlikely to suit you. Left without the necessary and functional systems storage, you won’t know where to put all the available dishes and kitchen utensils that were always at hand. Unless you combine the kitchen with the living room, then there will be room to spread out. By eliminating hanging cabinets in the part adjacent to the windows, you can maximize the amount of light and air in the room.

If you are the lucky owner of an area of 8 square meters or more with windows covering the entire width of the wall, then feel free to choose a kitchen set without convenient wall cabinets; it will fit organically into a room of any style.

The advantages of such an original composition include:

  • a kitchen without wall cabinets looks sleeker and more spacious and does not clutter up the space;
  • a free wall gives freedom of creativity, the opportunity to realize the wildest fantasies of designers;
  • the absence of furniture above the work area adds more light, even if it is located far from the window;
  • cleaning the kitchen area is greatly simplified;
  • accessibility of storage places (no need to reach up to the ceiling to get the desired item);
  • kitchens without upper wall cabinets are the most suitable option for Provence, country, loft style.

At the same time, such furniture has a number of disadvantages:

  • the number of storage systems is significantly reduced, you will have to get creative to compensate for this;
  • the remaining cabinets are located on the floor, the housewife will often need to bend down to get the necessary items;
  • existing communications are difficult to hide, except that in a room decorated in a loft style they will look harmonious;
  • You will have to work hard on a free section of the wall that is not covered by furniture to make everything look stylish and harmonious.

Layout features

Interested in this creative solution like kitchens without upper cabinets with photos of the design of which are presented below, pay special attention to the layout of the furniture so that the room looks not only original, but also stylish. To the wall over work surface didn’t look naked, think about what you could put there. It is enough to finish a standard kitchen apron with ordinary ceramic tiles, but you need to work on the free wall, carefully consider the design, since the main attention will be focused on it. The most popular types of kitchen layouts without upper cabinets can be seen in catalog photos furniture showrooms. From correct layout A kitchen without upper cabinets depends on the aesthetics of the room and the ease of use of all the pieces of furniture located there.

Linear

This type of layout involves placing all kitchen modules in one line along the wall under the countertop; this is convenient since the sink, work and hob surfaces are located nearby. To make the kitchen design harmonious, the free space can be filled decorative elements: hanging shelves with decorative items placed on them, framed photos, original watch, all kinds of posters will look great on the wall, it is advisable to select flat objects so that they do not overload the space. For variety, you can install a column in the corner of the closet to complete the composition. If the length of the wall allows, you can install several cabinets with built-in items in one row kitchen appliances , however in large rooms linear option

not particularly convenient, since the housewife will have to run from item to item.

Parallel

  • Not the most common type of layout, but for some kitchens it is ideal. It is convenient to place pieces of furniture along two parallel walls if your kitchen:
  • narrow and very elongated;
  • having two exits (passage);

square or rectangular shape. With this layout kitchen space used as efficiently as possible, several people can cook behind the surface at once. It also allows you to install many floor systems storage and use them for kitchen utensils, household appliances . The downside is that there are places for dining area

there is absolutely no room left, this option is good if the house has a separate dining room.

For a kitchen whose width is less than 2.5 m, a parallel layout is not suitable, since for ease of movement it is necessary to leave a passage of at least a meter and a half between the rows.

A layout that is equally suitable for decorating both a small and a fairly spacious kitchen. The set without upper L-shaped cabinets is spacious, compactly located, without taking up much space, brightening up the corner area. With its help, you can zone the kitchen space, dividing it into a work area and a dining area. In such sets there is no heavy upper corner module, but almost always there are shelves on the wall for storing all kinds of kitchen items and products. Often part corner zone They are equipped with blind cabinets with columns where built-in household appliances and a refrigerator are located. At the same time, the other side, where the work surface, hob, and sink are located, remains as open as possible, not burdened by wall cabinets.

U-shaped

Allows the placement of storage systems, work surfaces, and kitchen appliances along three walls. In square or rectangular kitchen large sizes such a set will look quite organic. True, there is little space left for the dining area; it is desirable to have separate room. Like option will do for furnishing a studio room, where the area is conventionally zoned into a dining room, kitchen and living room. A popular option for decorating a room of impressive size is a white kitchen, which will be perfectly complemented by a stone countertop finished with of stainless steel. A kitchen without upper cabinets in this layout has ample storage space for kitchen utensils and household appliances.

Ostrovnaya

The idea of an island layout can easily be implemented in a room of more than 20 square meters, while the modules are placed in the center of the room. If you are the happy owner of such a large room, such furniture will add a special charm to the interior of a kitchen without wall cabinets:

  • a cutting table combined with a bar counter (island or peninsula) provides a lot of possibilities; it can serve as both a buffet and dining table, and during a noisy party it will turn you into a real bartender who will treat guests to a variety of drinks;
  • the shape of an island piece of furniture can be different - rectangular, round, square, oval, or have a completely unusual, original shape;
  • for those who often receive guests, the island has additional element– folding table;
  • island layout sets can be designed in the same color scheme as other items or have a different color combination;
  • advantages - functionality, ergonomics, spectacular, sometimes even very creative appearance.

Organization of storage areas

If you have the idea of abandoning wall kitchen cabinets and redesigning your kitchen in the style of new fashion trends, think about how functional it will be in your room. For the harmonious placement of even a small number of modules, you need enough space; the lack of upper cabinets will not allow you to store the amount of kitchen utensils that you are used to in a standard kitchen. To single level design was as efficient as possible, a large room is required, preferably with a full-wall window.

But this does not mean that in small kitchen a set without upper cabinets would be inappropriate. This layout will add light and air small room, visually expanding the space, and well-thought-out filling of the lower cabinets will make it possible to store everything you need there.

By refusing wall cabinets with spotlights, you limit the lighting of the kitchen; you can add light to a small room by equipping it with original ceiling or movable lamps on special brackets.

An excellent solution would be to replace the upper modules with wall shelves and open systems storage is beautiful and very practical. For example, decorating a kitchen in the Provence style requires as many similar designer stuff, filled with all kinds of ceramic containers, while the free wall can also be decorated in accordance with the general style of the room. The parallel layout of the kitchen in a wooden house makes it possible to place long shelves made of natural wood around the perimeter, on which dishes, containers for storing food, and decorative items will fit.

With the help of rails placed along the wall or vertically with decorative hanging elements, you can easily solve the storage problem various items in the kitchen without upper cabinets. Potholders, dishes, skimmers, and ladles are hung on the pipe; vertical rails designed for mesh baskets, fruit containers, glasses look very stylish.

The main place where they are stored kitchen utensils, are the lower cabinets. All large utensils and household appliances are placed in them. If the set includes a column, even a refrigerator can easily fit in the depths of a free-standing cabinet. Additional storage space is also provided by corner modules, sideboards, sideboards, and chests of drawers.

Design ideas

In order for the interior of a kitchen without upper cabinets to delight everyone in the household for a long time with its sophistication and perfection, you need to think in advance about the number of cabinets and cabinets that will fit freely in your kitchen without cluttering up the space, and decide in what style it will be decorated. A kitchen without upper wall cabinets looks organically in the interior of studio apartments with an open plan. A bunch of original ideas more than compensate for the lack of upper modules.

If the room has an area of more than 20 m2, the design in an ultra-modern design using elements made of aluminum, glass and plastic with the placement of several additional display cases will become the highlight of your kitchen. New kitchen, decorated in the style of minimalism or hi-tech, does not tolerate excesses in the form of wall shelves, decorated with wall decor, there are no flashy colors or floral prints, it remains preferable White color, shades of gray, steel. A kitchen design without wall cabinets will be complete if you place an unusually shaped hood above the hob.

To prevent a work area without wall cabinets from looking empty, designers suggest decorating it and at the same time making it more functional with open shelves different sizes, they can be attached at the same level, in a checkerboard pattern or in descending order (larger, smaller, small). Above the work surface, which is located near the window, pendant lamps look beautiful. Railings, funny posters and pictures, and original clocks are hung on a free wall.

When purchasing a kitchen set without wall cabinets, remember that the room should have good repair, smooth floors and walls. Furniture such as kitchens without upper cabinets with photos obliges you to keep the kitchen in perfect order, since many kitchen utensils are in a visible place, and the walls will attract the eye first.

When should you choose a single-tier kitchen?

The question directly affects two aspects: your aspirations and the characteristics of the kitchen room.

As mentioned above, if you strive to organize a kitchen in your apartment that is not similar to others, then single-level kitchens will cope with this best, because they have a fundamentally different design. The originality of the idea of such sets immediately catches the eye when entering the kitchen; it doesn’t smell like something completely new and at the same time unique; this design gives the kitchen more openness and lightness.

The last two qualities are especially relevant when considering the features of the kitchen configuration.

It should be noted that kitchens without upper cabinets have another very significant positive quality, they do not create a feeling of clutter or overload. The absence of wall cabinets makes the kitchen space feel freer and more spacious.

These properties are very useful for small kitchens; an unloaded upper part will make it lighter and more spacious, which will undoubtedly be perceived positively.

The same thing, if you have an elongated kitchen, eliminating the upper modules will not make it even more elongated.

If the kitchen is poorly lit by natural light, you can also abandon the upper cabinets, and in their place it is better to provide wall decoration in light colors.

Also, if you strive to create minimalism, hi-tech, modern or other style in your kitchen interior modern style, then abandoning the upper hanging modules will have the best effect on maintaining the idea of this design.

How to organize a kitchen space without wall cabinets

Many will think that by abandoning the upper half of the kitchen, its functionality and ergonomics will suffer greatly. Yes, there is some truth in this, but only if the kitchen set is poorly designed. After all, in order to make its space no less effective, it is better to think in advance about its type and layout, as well as the location of each functional area and detail. At the same time, all kinds of devices and kitchen accessories will greatly simplify the task.

Arranging a kitchen without wall cabinets photo

It is also worth noting that in such cases it is better to order a kitchen set from furniture workshops based on individual measurements. After all, only in this case will we be able to get the most ergonomic headset using additional mechanisms.

Small kitchen without wall cabinets

In order to replenish the capacity, depending on the characteristics of the kitchen room, you can resort to several methods:

  • If you have a spacious kitchen, in addition to the main set, you can order additional modules for it and place them on other walls. This could be a buffet, a dish rack, a chest of drawers, etc. Such furniture is quite spacious, and kitchen attributes that are not used every day can be successfully placed there. Here, a separate item can be identified as a kitchen with an island; the lower part of such an island can be used for storing kitchen paraphernalia. The same applies to a kitchen with a bar counter, if you order it in advance with drawers or shelves at the bottom.

Single-level kitchen photo

  • The second method concerns directly the design of the main part. It should be said that if possible, you can order a corner kitchen or a U-shaped one; such kitchen layouts compensate for the loss of functional space with the lack of upper cabinets. True, such headsets are more relevant for large spacious rooms.

  • The third method involves optimizing the countertop and the space above it through special kitchen accessories. An excellent assistant in this case is the wall railing. This spectacular metal tube attached to the wall, on special holders, will great place for storing various kitchen utensils using various devices: hooks, baskets and other holders. The most used accessories are placed on it: a slot with spices, a ladle, a slotted spoon, spatulas, oven mitts, near kitchen sink The mesh basket will successfully accommodate detergents and all paraphernalia, as well as a plate dryer. This will significantly improve not only the ergonomics but also the convenience of the kitchen during its use.

  • The fourth method involves using a small number of shelves in the upper part - above the tabletop. This will at least help relieve some of the pressure in the kitchen. But you shouldn’t be too zealous, otherwise the effect of lightness and minimalism can suffer greatly; it’s enough to place 2-3 glass shelves. You can place a beautiful one on them tea-set, beautiful plates, vases or anything else that would also help decorate the interior of the kitchen. An excellent idea is the idea associated with the kitchen apron - a shelf for its entire length lying directly on it. This will not only help improve functionality, but will also help complete the design of the kitchen set beautifully and logically.

The widest range of kitchen sets presented in furniture stores gives us the opportunity to realize almost any design idea. And today a fairly popular interior solution is a kitchen without upper cabinets - i.e. a headset that does not have mounted modules.

At first glance, such a configuration may seem not only unusual, but also non-functional - but as practice shows, a single-level layout, provided it is properly implemented, is very acceptable.

Single-level kitchen: design basics

In what cases would this be appropriate?

When deciding to buy and install a kitchen set without upper cabinets, you need to critically analyze the room. The main pitfall of this layout is that a single-level design will not be appropriate in every room.

Experts in the field of interior planning recommend choosing sets without upper modules:

Kitchen “without top” – perfect solution for spacious rooms

  • If you have a narrow and long kitchen, then eliminating the upper tier will help expand the free space.
    Naturally, in this case, you will have to minimize the number of accessories stored in the kitchen itself, since the main storage space here will be the lower modules, the volume of which is also limited.
  • Also, a kitchen set without wall cabinets would be appropriate in a wide kitchen with plenty of free space..
    At the same time, along the perimeter there are installed various chests of drawers, in which all the necessary kitchen utensils are stored, in addition, drawers under the kitchen island can be used as additional space. This arrangement is typical for Scandinavian-style kitchens.
  • And yet, for a single-level design to be as impressive as possible, a combination of “large area + kitchen island + full-wall window” is required. Then the top kitchen cabinets Not only will they not be needed, they will look out of place and overload the space. Examples of such interiors are shown in the photo in our article.

In addition, you can dispense with the upper cabinets if you plan to combine the kitchen and living room into a single studio. Naturally, it is necessary to provide space for storing household appliances and other small items, since in any case the useful volume of a one-level kitchen will be less than that of a traditional one.

Furniture for a single-tier layout

The easiest way to select furniture is to purchase a ready-made single-tier set. Today, corner and U-shaped single-level models, included in the furniture lines from Snaidero, RexWood, Gemini, etc., are quite popular.

But in some cases it is not possible to buy a ready-made set of furniture (or the price of the set turns out to be excessive), so you have to select individual elements that allow you to abandon the installation of upper modules:

  • The buffet is a very important part of the set, since in the absence of hanging elements it is in the buffet that the most of dishes.
    When choosing a buffet, you will have to compromise to a certain extent - on the one hand, its volume should be sufficient for storage large number small appliances, and on the other hand, it should not be bulky.
  • To “combine the incongruous,” experts recommend choosing models of buffets with kitchen fronts, the upper part of which is made of glass.
    Such a buffet will be quite voluminous, reliable, and at the same time, it will not take up much space.

Advice!
The wide one can be used as a multi-purpose cabinet, hiding behind its doors, for example, a built-in dishwasher, mini-fridge or even microwave.

  • Kitchen cabinets with a single-tier layout are also very important, since, along with the buffet, they act as a place for storing utensils. One of the most modern trends in kitchen design is the use of mobile cabinets on wheels: they can act both as traditional cabinets and as elements of one composite work surface.
    Naturally, this requires that the floor in our kitchen be fairly level!
  • Base cabinet. Despite the fact that our kitchen does not provide for the placement of hanging elements, the use of fairly high cabinets is quite acceptable.
    As a rule, such a cabinet has a considerable height and is placed at the maximum distance from the window. Designers recommend making the upper parts of the cabinet transparent and filling them exclusively with dishes - this way this element of the interior will look as advantageous as possible.

Important elements of the interior are the work surface and the kitchen island. With a single-tier layout, the work surface often occupies the entire perimeter of the kitchen (especially in small rooms). As for the island, it is an almost integral element of European single-tier kitchens.

Work area lighting

One of the key issues that we will have to solve when planning the interior of a single-tier kitchen is the lighting of the work surface.

In the case of wall cabinets, there is no problem - Spotlights or LED Strip Light are mounted on the lower surface of the modules located above the sink and cutting table, and the hood lighting is responsible for illuminating the stove.

If there are no wall cabinets on the wall, then you will have to be smart:

  • The easiest way is to install lamps on movable brackets. If necessary, such a lamp can be directed where we need it, and when the need for it disappears, we can return it to its place near the wall.

Note!
There are models that are installed in a wall niche and controlled using a button.
When folded, such a lamp is hidden behind wall panel, and if necessary, rides on a special tire.

  • If the height of the room is small, then built-in LED ceiling lights can be used as lighting.
    A “battery” of such lamps can be installed in a pendant plasterboard ceiling, and the switch should be placed on the wall near the sink or work table.

  • For higher ceilings, pendant lamps with variable length pendants are suitable. When necessary, we simply pull such a lamp closer to the table, and the rest of the time it is under the ceiling, without interfering with the view.

Despite the abundance natural light, which is ensured by the absence of wall modules, high-quality light in the kitchen is very important. And if you feel that the existing general lighting is not enough for comfortable work, you can always install additional lighting yourself using one of the above schemes.

Important elements of a single-tier kitchen

Kitchen screen

If we have figured out the basic layout of such kitchens, then it’s time to move on to discussing individual elements.

And the most important of them will be the kitchen screen, or apron:

  • In a single-tier layout, a wall screen near the sink and hob occupies a key place, since in the absence of upper modules, it is the screen that is in front of the eyes of anyone who enters the kitchen, and therefore is the central element of the design.

  • As a screen, you can use a panel made of laminated MDF, identical in color and texture to the tabletop.
    In this case, along the upper edge of the screen you can place a narrow decorative shelf on which to place kitchen accessories made of glass and ceramics.

Note!
If the screen and countertop are kept in light colors, and transparent glass dishes are placed on the shelf, then you can style the entire kitchen as a science laboratory.
Recently, this design has become quite popular in the West.

  • Screens made of decorative glass and ceramic tiles. In the absence of upper modules, you can safely make the screen high enough by placing various designs or ornaments on it.
    You can make such a screen yourself: instructions and video tutorials are in the corresponding section of our website.

When installing a screen in a single-tier set, you need to remember the need to carefully care for it. This screen will always be visible, which means it must be spotlessly clean.

Rails and hanging elements

Another detail without which it is almost impossible to imagine a single-tier kitchen is a wall rail with hanging shelves and hooks.

  • The railing is a decorative pipe placed along kitchen wall, which can be used for almost anything - from a hot pot to a dish drainer.
  • In addition to horizontal rails, there are also vertical rails, which are attached to the ceiling and to the work surface. The vertical rails also accommodate various mesh baskets for kitchen utensils, stands for glasses, etc.

  • In this case, the railing acts as a kind of replacement for the upper kitchen cabinets. On the one hand, hanging elements have relatively small sizes and with thoughtful placement, they do not clutter up the space at all, but on the other hand, you still have a place to store small items, dry dishes immediately after washing, etc.
  • Railing is also indispensable for placing kitchen tools– ladles, spatulas, skimmers and other things. All this should be constantly at hand, and in the absence of a top drawer, you definitely cannot do without a hanging system.

Pros and cons of kitchens without wall cabinets

To summarize the above, I would like to once again weigh the pros and cons of a single-tier kitchen layout.

The following arguments can be given in favor of such a decision:

  • A kitchen design without wall cabinets looks fresh and original. Much more light will enter the room, and in general the kitchen will no longer look “standard.”
  • The upper kitchen modules do not interfere with cooking. By bending over the work surface, you do not risk getting caught on an overhanging top cabinet, but with top shelves Nothing will fall on you, guaranteed.
  • Caring for the kitchen takes much less time, since we don’t have to wash the upper modules of grease and dust stuck to it.

Original design is the main advantage of such a kitchen.

If we talk about the disadvantages of such a solution, then first of all we pay attention to ourselves:

  • Lack of storage space for kitchen utensils and other items. The lower modules have to be made more voluminous, which can lead to a lack of free space to move around the kitchen.
  • The need for high-quality finishing of the walls of the room. At the same time, for finishing you need to choose non-staining materials, since the walls will be exposed to moisture and particles of fat and soot suspended in the air.
  • Also, do not forget about the cost of single-tier structures. As a rule, you will have to pay significantly more for such a kitchen than for a standard set.

If you look impartially, then a kitchen without wall cabinets is a rather original, but somewhat risky interior solution. Although, with a thoughtful approach, you can minimize all possible risks, and then the interior of your kitchen will become the envy of all your friends and acquaintances!
