Boxing at home: do-it-yourself punching bag. Homemade punching bag How to sew bags for judo practice

Not only oligarchs, but also average people can set up a home gym for themselves. Even in small room You can always find a corner for a punching bag, with which the whole family will keep fit. But the cost of such sports equipment will completely discourage you from exercising if you don’t use it simple recommendations about how to make a pear at home. Next, you will learn how to build a homemade projectile with your own hands.

What is a pear made of?

The pear is made of two parts: a filler and a container into which this filler is poured. The bag acts as a container (see photo).

To make a bag use:

  • very dense fabric;
  • tarpaulin;
  • artificial or natural leather.

Several materials act as filler:

  • fine crushed stone;
  • sand;
  • sawdust.

How to make pear at home?

Now that you have decided on the material, you can begin preparatory work. You will need three bags and appropriate fillers. The bags are sewn from the fabric that was chosen for the pear. The most preferable is leather, since dense fabric will soon begin to lose sand, and the tarpaulin itself is very hard - it will be impossible to approach it without gloves. And exercises for the legs will simply be impossible, since the legs will get tired quickly.

Each bag should be 1-2 cm larger than the previous one. It is not recommended to sew a pear from a bag used for sugar or flour, because... they most likely will not withstand even three training sessions and will break through.

The seams are made with nylon thread, each row is stitched three times. Glue is applied over the thread seam, which is used to fasten the rubber surfaces. Some people simply make a pear out of sand, and as a short-term option it is quite acceptable.

Take the smallest bag and fill it with crushed stone. Then it is inserted into a larger bag. The distance between the outside of one and inner surface the other is filled with sand. After this, the third bag is pulled, and the layer between the surfaces must be filled with sawdust. It should also be taken into account that after the first training, the third layer will settle a little, and it will be necessary to supplement it with sawdust, so the filling paths should open easily.

What to make a pear from at home?

How to make a pear, for example, from an old one leather jacket with your own hands, you can watch the video.

It is also possible to make a pear from car tires.

Fasteners for punching bag

There are several options to create reliable fastening for pear:

  • use eyelets and carabiners used by climbers; you will have to tinker with inserting the eyelets a lot, although in the end the pear will turn out to be quite decent;
  • cut a circle from thick plywood, drill holes in it for the rope, stretch the rope, securing it with knots on back side; the circle will have to be covered with leather and firmly sewn into the pear.

There are no difficulties in how to make a pear at home. Except for the hard work with the fabric, which is very dense. It will be possible to work with it only with the help of special tools.

The dimensions of such a homemade pear can vary, and with high-quality processing of the fabric, you can make these for friends or even the gym. The very first training sessions will help you evaluate your work not only visually, but also through direct contact.

Most novice athletes can only dream of purchasing such a solid simulator. Meanwhile, you can get a quite decent, durable and easy-to-use pear for much less money; for this you just need to buy the most necessary materials and make it yourself.

How to make a punching bag at home

Before you get to work, decide on the design and dimensions of your future simulator, then select the tools and consumables necessary to bring this idea to life.

The most popular variety of this kind sports equipment- a medium punching bag, which can have a classic pear-shaped or the more common now elongated cylindrical shape. A cylindrical bag is much easier to manufacture, so we advise you to opt for a simulator of this particular configuration.

What can you make a punching bag from?

Cotton fabric or leatherette - inexpensive, accessible, but far from best material for sewing a punching bag. Even the strongest and thickest plain weave fabric has little elasticity, so a pear cover made from such material can burst from the first sharp blow.

Tarpaulin - more suitable material for making a punching bag, but it also has its serious drawbacks - the rough surface of the tarpaulin covering breaks down the skin on the knuckles when practicing punches without gloves, and the filling of the bag leaks through the pores between the threads and collects dust.

Leather (artificial, with a reinforced textile base, or even preferably natural) - best material for making a punching bag.

How to make a punching bag: instructions

To sew a punching bag you will need:

  • material for the top of the pear;
  • scissors;
  • awl and pliers;
  • especially strong, reinforced threads;
  • a sewing machine capable of sewing leather, or a hand triangular needle for sewing leather;
  • ruler, pencil or tailor's chalk;
  • thick burlap for the inner cover;
  • thick steel wire and a piece of steel chain;
  • material for filling the projectile - seeded sand, dry sawdust, crumb rubber or fine expanded clay.

Work progress

Cutting and sewing

  1. On the underside of a piece of leather or tarpaulin, mark the contours of the parts of the outer cover of the exercise machine. The pattern of a cylindrical punching bag consists of two elements - a circle with a diameter of 30-45 cm and a rectangle with a height of 90-130 cm. Select the parameters that best suit you from this range of sizes, and determine the width of the rectangle by multiplying the diameter of the bottom of the simulator by 3.14.
  2. Cut out the pear pieces, leaving seam and hem allowances. At the top of the rectangle, add 10 cm to the hem, on the sides, along its lower edge and along the perimeter of the circle, add 3 cm.
  3. Fold the rectangle face inward, align the side cuts and sew the workpiece along them (with an indentation of 3 cm from the edge) according to the previously applied markings.
  4. Sew the bottom into the resulting pipe in the same way.
  5. Turn the workpiece onto its face.

Product assembly

  1. Cut 4 pieces 25-30 cm long from the chain, put them on a steel bar, roll it into a ring whose diameter is equal to the diameter of the pear. Connect the ends of the rod by welding.
  2. At the top cylindrical workpiece, stepping back 6-7 from the edge of the material, make 4 holes with a diameter of 2-3 cm at equal intervals.
  3. Place the steel ring inside the workpiece and pass the chain sections through the holes made. Going around the bar, turn the edge of the leather inward by 8-9 cm, and especially carefully sew the hem along the cut. As a result, the fastening ring should be securely fixed in the upper edge of the simulator.
  4. Place an inner cover (sewn in a similar way from thick burlap) inside the leather blank.
  5. Pour filler into the inner cover, lightly compact it, and tie the cover.
  6. Assemble the upper links of the chain sections together, and hang the projectile on a mount corresponding to its weight.

Professionals use a punching bag to practice specific punches and techniques. But beginners and amateurs do not have to set out to master the art of fighting. A punching bag for home is an excellent exercise machine that helps you maintain good physical shape, since almost all muscle groups are involved when working with it.

Using the projectile allows you to:

    burn fat deposits during aerobic exercise;

    strengthen the muscles of the arms, back, abs, thighs;

    improve blood circulation throughout the body;

    increase reaction speed, coordination, attentiveness, concentration;

    improve the functioning of the autonomic system;

    increase endurance of joints and tendons;

    become more resistant to stress, stabilize work nervous system;

    strengthen the immune system;

    increase the amount of energy, improve the overall tone of the body;

    practice self-defense skills.

Main types of punching bags for home

There are three types of punching bags for training at home.

Liquid(hydrobags) – presented in the form of a mannequin (human torso) or a punching bag filled with water. The projectile allows you to practice various types blows, and if the need arises, you can drain the water and easily move it. This punching bag is the best option for home use, as it does not take up much space and is suitable for complex training.

Inflatable– are an inflated pear-shaped chamber. This type is also called a pneumatic punching bag. The main advantage of the projectile is the presence of a rubber chamber inside, which allows it to quickly restore its shape after an impact. Inflatable bags are attached to the ceiling and are intended only for practicing punches.

Printed- a classic version, presented in the shape of a cylinder. They differ from each other in the type of filler.

Before buying a punching bag for your home, decide on the purpose of purchase and the intended place of practice. If you want to practice punches, take a small model. And if your goal is complex training, you should choose liquid or stuffed equipment (based on the location in the house and the availability of free space for active work with the exercise machine).

How to choose a punching bag for your home

  1. filler;

  2. fastening.

Let's take a closer look at each point.

Depending on the weight, punching bags are divided into:

    light – 5–40 kg;

    medium – 40–80 kg;

    heavy – 80–120 kg.

For non-professional training at home, it is better to choose equipment from 40 to 80 kg. Also consider your own weight. For example, if you weigh 90 kg, then a 45 kg bag will be too light for you and vice versa. The best option when your weight is in the same category as the weight of the bag.

If you find it difficult to choose, give preference to a heavier projectile. Just remember that the greater the weight of the pear for the home, the stronger the fastening should be.

Homemade punching bags come in cylindrical and round shapes. There are also more complex varieties in this regard, but we will consider only the classic ones. The most popular projectiles are elongated cylindrical ones of medium size. You can use them to practice punches and kicks. Pear-shaped bags are more suitable for practicing punches only with your hands.

Punching bags for home filling the following materials:

  • sawdust;

  • rubber shavings.

Tyrsa is not the most practical filler, as it quickly falls to the bottom of the bag, making it look like stone, which negatively affects the ability to conduct training. Plus, tyrsa and sawdust can begin to rot over time.

Sawdust has similar characteristics to tyrsa, and therefore is also not a very good option, however, such punching bags for the home have the lowest cost.

Sand makes the projectile very hard, so not everyone can use it for training.

Rubber shavings are the most practical option, which does not rot or fall off over time, but punching bags for the home with such filling are more expensive than others.

Of course, for home exercises from stuffed pears, a projectile with rubber shavings is most suitable, but if this is too expensive an option for you, you can buy a bag filled with rubber shavings. sawdust or tyrs.

Attention! A home punching bag with such a filling will quickly lose its functionality, and you will have to spend money on buying a new equipment again.

For those who have been involved in sports for a long time or already have experience working with a punching bag, you can safely choose a bag with sand filling.

The lining of a punching bag for home can be made from:

Of course, leather is the best material; it is elastic, durable, and environmentally friendly. But such models are not affordable for everyone. Leatherette good quality will also serve for a long time, you just need to make sure of the required density and elasticity of the material.

Reinforced nylon (PVC) is quite often used for lining punching bags. This material has different densities (on average 600 to 900 g/m2). The thicker it is, the higher the strength. However, it is not recommended to buy a projectile lined with such material, since it does not have high elasticity. Because of this, the pear will quickly become covered with cracks and tear.

Tarpaulin is used infrequently. Its properties do not allow it to be lined with boxing bags filled with sand or tyrsa. Although if there is rubber or polymer crumbs inside, then the tarpaulin-covered pear will be durable and wear-resistant.

Boxing bags come in ceiling and floor types. The former are attached to the ceiling using durable parts, the latter are equipped with a weighty base and can be moved from one place to another. A ceiling punching bag for home is a cheaper and more popular model.

The installation method does not in any way affect the functionality of the projectile; here you need to take into account the free living space. If you have enough space at home to hang the bag and freely perform on it necessary exercises– you can choose a simulator that is attached to the ceiling.

If there is not much free space at home, then it is better to buy a floor-standing model that can be pushed into the center of the room during training, and then put back in place.

The ceiling bag often comes with a bracket and bolts, and if they are missing, you can always buy fasteners at a sports store.

For home placement optimal height a punching bag is 60–80 cm. This size is quite suitable for complex training. But it is worth noting that the longer the bag, the better. For example, a height of 100–120 cm makes the projectile convenient for practicing strikes at all levels. Focus on your height, free space in the house and, if possible, buy a large bag cylindrical.

Human height has great value, since it will be inconvenient for a teenager to train with a very long apparatus, but for a professional athlete tall It will be uncomfortable to work with a short projectile.

Another important factor– cost of the simulator. Prices for universal cylinder bags start at 1,500 rubles and go up to 60 thousand. You can choose a children's punching bag for home for 400–700 rubles.

Some manufacturers offer good pneumatic bags for the home at prices ranging from 1,400 to 25 thousand for a punching bag for medium weight.

Projectiles for performing an uppercut are rare and expensive - their cost ranges from 8 to 22 thousand rubles.

Pillows belong to approximately the same price category - their price varies from 6 to 30 thousand rubles.

The most inexpensive chaser will cost 400–800 rubles, but this budget model on thin stretch marks and with sawdust inside. For your home, it is better to choose a good-quality pneumatic blower for 1,600–3,000 rubles.

A punching bag for a child will cost about 1,200 rubles, and for adults, sports stores offer many options from 4-5 to 34 thousand rubles.

Water-filled punching bags for home are even more expensive - from 14 to 82 thousand rubles, so not everyone can afford such a purchase.

How to make a punching bag for home with your own hands

The simplest option is to prepare eight construction polypropylene bags, seven of which are inserted into each other, stitch the bottom with a strong thread using a gypsy needle, and then pull together as follows:

Then you need to sew loops made of durable fabric (four or six pieces) on which the projectile will be hung. The remaining bag must be filled three-quarters full with sand, tie the neck tightly, and insert it into the resulting multi-layered cover. You should not sew the boxing bag tightly, as the filling will shrink over time and its volume will need to be increased. Think about this possibility in advance.

Making such a punching bag for your home does not require much expense; it turns out to be quite durable, although it does not look very beautiful. How to make a punching bag with your own hands so that you won’t be ashamed to hang it at home or at work? You need to take a piece of tarpaulin 100x80 cm, and another small piece to cut out of it a circle with a diameter of about 40 cm for the bottom of the pear.

Fold a large canvas rectangle in half and stitch along the edge on sewing machine. Then sew on the bottom. Then fold the top edge and attach the loops. In the resulting case, you need to lower a polypropylene bag with sand, and the gap for better shape fill with sawdust.

Instead of tarpaulin, you can use furniture leather. It's more soft material, which matters if you haven't worked with a punching bag before. Hitting a rough canvas surface will leave abrasions on your hands, even if you take all precautions.

Whatever option you choose for making a punching bag for your home, it is better to attach it not to the ceiling, but to an L-shaped structure made of a steel angle or channel, securely screwed to the wall. You can also purchase a ready-made bracket. The sports equipment turns out to be quite heavy and can come off after some time if you hang it from the ceiling using anchors.

How to make such a punching bag at home yourself?

This is the lightest and softest model, since it is made from a rolled-up travel rug, which is also called a karemat. The main advantage of such a punching bag for home is its high dynamism: when hit, the projectile is deflected and then flies towards. Even without setting a specific goal, you will have to practice the skill of evasion, the mastery of which can help in a street fight.

Everything is clear about the contents of such a pear for the home, but you need to figure out the flexible leg. You will need: two pieces of pipe measuring 1 m and 0.5 m, a tight steel spring, a round steel plate (diameter about 30 cm) or square (side length 20–25 cm). A short pipe should be welded to one end of the spring, a long pipe to the other, and a plate to the free edge of the long pipe, which will later be screwed to the floor. After fixing the metal part, you need to attach the punching bag to it using tape, after which you can begin dynamic training.

If there is not enough space for a floor-standing punching bag for your home, you can make a wall-mounted punching bag - it is more compact, although this is not its only advantage. The design of such a simulator is most likely familiar to everyone who is interested in martial arts, and is more successful than the sand-filled simulator described above or a punching bag on a flexible leg.

This projectile allows you to practice strikes with your hands (fists, the base and edge of the palm, knuckles, etc.) to the head, body and abdomen of the intended enemy. And the rice filler feels like a human body upon impact.

First we sew a canvas cover. Fold the 120x120 cm piece in half, machine sew it on the sides - we get a bag. We pour 3-4 kg of cheap rice into it and make a hand stitch, marking the lower third with it. After this, add another 3-4 kg, stitch again, separating the second third. And then again. The result was three bags located one above the other. The top hole needs to be sewn up using a machine and two loops must be sewn to hang the punching bag at home.

How to secure a punching bag at home

You don’t have to practice martial arts or go to the gym to exercise with a punching bag. The projectile is attached to the wall, ceiling or fixed to special stand, which you can install at home.

Decide on the location of the pear. Decide where it will be most convenient to practice with such a projectile. Maybe you have a basement or a gym room? The placement of the pear directly depends on the availability of free space in the house.

Choose between ceiling and wall mounting. To ensure that nothing interferes with you while training with a punching bag at home, try to ensure that you are able to move 360 degrees around the bag. This placement option allows for active exercises and movements.

You can hang the bag from the ceiling off center of the room, but then the punching bag could hit something, break something, or injure you by bouncing off the wall.

Many people choose to mount the pear on the ceiling in the garage or basement.

Prepare a strong support beam. Support beams are narrow crossbars that are located along the ceiling close to each other. The standard distance between them is 40 cm, but sometimes reaches 60 cm. Most often, a punching bag for home is suspended from the ceiling for better mobility. Please note that this requires a strong beam with good support, as it will have to not only support the weight of the punching bag, but also hold it while swinging.

You can find the support beam using a nail finder.

Or use the listening method. Try knocking along the ceiling - if you hear a dull sound, it means there is no supporting beam in this place. If you find a support beam, the sound will be loud because you will be knocking on wood.

To determine the location of the support beam, you can measure the distance from the wall. You need to pull the tape measure close to the edge of the wall and measure 40 cm. If the desired beam is not found, measure another 40 cm, and then by analogy. Eventually you will be able to find the right spot on the ceiling. Tap the surface again to make sure the support beam has been found.

Attention! A mistake when installing a punching bag can result in serious damage to your home. Therefore, it is very important to find the strongest beam. If you hang a punching bag for home from the rafters or ceiling joints, there is a risk of breaking the drywall.

The punching bag beam must support a weight greater than the weight of the bag.

Make a recess in the support beam. Insert the eyebolt into the resulting hole. First you need to screw it into the hole, then tighten it with a wrench.

Hang the pear. Attach chains at the corners. They should be included with the punching bag. The set should also include hooks that are attached to the chain. Then hang the bag from the eye bolt.

Check how securely the indoor punching bag is secured. Try pressing it a few times to check if it is securely installed. It is better to reinstall the machine if the fastenings seem weak or not strong enough.

Some use alternative method attaching a punching bag at home.

The bag is hung using a wall fixture. If in doubt about ceiling mounting, fix the bag on the wall. In almost all sports stores you can buy wall bracket with everyone necessary details for fastening. But this method relevant only for brick walls. Otherwise, the installation may damage your home.

Buy a mobile stand. If design features or lack of free space does not allow you to hang the punching bag from the ceiling at home or attach it to the wall, purchase a mobile stand. Some even have wheels for greater mobility. But this device must be heavy so as not to move while working with the projectile. A heavy punching bag typically requires a stand that weighs around 135kg. For lighter exercise machines, a weight of 45 kg is enough.

If you choose the stand option, simply attach the chain of the punching bag to the S-shaped hook. As you can see, the installation process is quite simple.

Attaching a punching bag to the ceiling of your home can be very dangerous. The projectile may fall and injure you due to its weight or chain.

There is also a risk of damaging your home when installing a punching bag. Therefore, you first need to make sure of the strength and reliability of the load-bearing elements of the structure and find out whether they can withstand the load from dynamic work on the pear. If you have chosen ceiling method fastenings, it is better to use strong boards or diagonal braces. If this is not possible, it is recommended to consider other methods of installing the boxing apparatus.

How to properly practice on a punching bag at home

You need to learn how to work correctly with a punching bag, and not mindlessly hit it. We suggest considering several recommendations for such exercises in order to develop technique and increase impact power.

    Be careful.

    When training on a punching bag at home, one very common problem often arises. important issue– incorrect “visual” habits are formed. When striking, athletes often focus their gaze on the bag at one point or do not look at it at all.

    Too focused look.

    It is good for the shooter who is aiming at a specific point on the target. During a fight, staring tells your opponent where you are going to hit. You should not look down if you are going to hit the torso. This gives your opponent an advantage - he will be able to defend himself and strike back at you. Do not look at the point of impact, because when you hit the body, your head remains unprotected.

    Don't look in one place.

    When working with a punching bag at home, look forward. Think that the bag is your opponent and you should always see it. In this case, special attention should be paid to his head and body movements. Strike correctly, but do not look closely at the point of impact.

    Lazy eyes.

    This is the name of the situation when an athlete does not look at the bag at all. It's hard to believe, but some fighters find it difficult to answer the question of where they look when striking. It also happens that, while delivering powerful blows, they direct their gaze to the floor or to the side. Often during an attack, wrestlers strike blindly from fatigue.

    Your eyes should not wander. A lazy eye makes you vulnerable! Concentrate and look at the projectile. This way you will increase the accuracy of your strikes and definitely won’t miss an oncoming attack. In order to get rid of a lazy look, you can attach pieces of tape to the surface of the bag (what you will look at) or work more with other equipment that allows you to improve the concentration of your vision, for example, with a pneumatic bulb.

    You are required to look at the punching bag, but not focus too much on it. You should see the entire projectile, not part of it. Always control the distance between you and the bag.

    Keep your balance.

    Put force into the blow, rather than trying to lean with your whole body. Stand confidently on both feet and do not put your weight on the bag. Good balance allows you to hit harder and improve your footwork.

    Do not lean on the bag. There is no need to push him with your shoulders, because in the ring a technical opponent will easily dodge you by simply shifting his body. And you definitely shouldn't hit your head! This - best way receive an uppercut.

    Don't push, but hit.

    The punching bag should not sway, but vibrate after blows. There is even a saying that says that a blind person can tell whether a blow has been struck correctly or not. This can be determined by the sound of the hand touching the surface of the projectile. It should be ringing and loud, and not deaf.

    Pushing the bag rather than hitting it will quickly tire your arms. An accurate and targeted strike will practically not budge the projectile. Try to relax your hands and make quick, whipping strikes. Use force in the blow, but make sure that the time of contact between your fist and the punching bag is not very long. As soon as contact occurs, immediately return your hand and strike again. If your hands get tired quickly, it means that you are not hitting, but pushing the machine.

    When impact occurs, your feet should be flat on the floor.

    During the impact, fix your feet on the floor. This way you will be able to find balance, put maximum precision and force into the blow, and also quickly return to the starting position after delivering it. You can move as much as you like, but if you are ready to hit, put your feet on the floor! If you find it difficult to keep your feet off the floor during movements, reduce your step width. Professionals strike much harder also because they do not lift their feet from flooring even while moving.

    Don't hit - move your feet.

    Coaches say: “Use your arms or your legs, or your head.” If the movement is not related to attack, then it belongs to the category of defensive. The punching bag doesn't respond to punches, so you don't have to worry about moving your head, but you definitely should think about moving your legs. If you're done hitting, move.

    Remember the distance. Move with the bag and always leave enough distance for the impact. Do not let the pear move too far away or reduce it to a minimum. Don't stop working your legs. You must move with the projectile and not wait for it to come back to you for the next hit. Move away when the bag approaches and follow it as it moves away. If it is difficult to move your legs to the rhythm of the machine, try to lighten the kicks, replace the bag with a heavier one, or train your legs.

    Don't stop moving.

    This is what distinguishes a man from a boy. Pay attention to professional fighters and you will see that while training with a punching bag, they constantly throw punches. Rest between strikes does not exceed two seconds.

    Beginners to the sport take longer breaks between sets of punches. As a rule, it takes 10–15 seconds to restore breathing. In the ring, such a long period of inactivity can be fatal.

    You may not always put all your strength into a punch, but you need to throw punches without stopping. For example, throwing light punches and jabs while you catch your breath or moving around the punching bag. If you are prepared for a blow, take a step and begin active actions.

    Less force, but more breath.

    Working with a punching bag, like running, requires proper breathing. Don't focus on the strength of the blows. Focus on explosive breathing. To avoid fatigue, relax and watch your breathing.

    Gives force to the blow good technique, and endurance is trained through proper breathing.

    Don't let the projectile tire you out. The punching bag works at your pace in accordance with the rhythm of the punches thrown. Try to save some of your energy for more exhausting work (fighting an opponent or training with a pneumatic bag). If you get too tired while working with a punching bag, then you are not yet ready to compete.

    Apply 3-6 hits.

    This is the most optimal quantity strikes for the series. Not one, two or eight. With three to six hits, you can inflict damage on your opponent in a short period of time and have time to escape before the enemy responds. Combine strikes into combinations. They can be either traditional (1-2-1-2, etc.) or non-standard (1-3-2, etc.). The fight consists of combinations of blows, and is not based on single ones.

    Hit high (to the head) and low (to the body). Often during a fight, blows to the head do not reach the target. Sometimes this happens due to the fighter's fatigue.

    Rest in motion.

    If you're tired, don't just stand there. It is better to rest while moving and strike lightly. Don't hang yourself on a bag or dance like Mike Tyson. But you don’t need to stand still like a bag either.

    Place your hands higher.

Don't think solely about the force of the blow. You may think that you keep your hands high, but the only way to test this is when you fight in a duel. You can spend hundreds of hours beating a bag without realizing how open you are to your opponent. When you throw a jab, try not to let go right hand. Do the same when throwing a left hook. Tuck your elbows in to protect your torso, not just cover your head. It's better to train with a punching bag under the supervision of a trainer or at least a friend who would yell at you every time you give up.

Many parents very often purchase a children's punching bag for their home to help their sons develop coordination, agility, strength, reaction speed, endurance, etc.

And then the question arises: what is better - a homemade pear or a store-bought one?

Do-it-yourself boxing equipment has its disadvantages:

  • it will be difficult to fill a pear with rubber crumbs, because it is not freely available in stores, and sand and sawdust are much inferior as fillers;
  • A store-bought pear is quite dense and durable, but stuffing a homemade one can only be done in a few steps. To do this, you need to carry out a series of trainings to compact the consistency by mechanical action;
  • It is difficult to stitch thick fabric or leather with nylon thread. The seams may turn out not only uneven, but also not very strong;
  • homemade fastenings can fail you at any time. And you risk, if not getting injured, then facing unpleasant moments of destruction of all your work.

In any case, after weighing all the pros and cons, only you can decide for yourself which punching bag to install in your home.

If you want to practice boxing at home: fill your hands, practice punches, then you cannot do without a punching bag or a punching bag. In this article, you will learn how to quickly and efficiently make a homemade punching bag or bag at home, as well as the disadvantages and advantages of the resulting sports equipment compared to the equipment you can buy in a store.

What materials are used for a punching bag or bag?

Before you start creating a punching bag or bag, you need to decide on the material for external cladding, and for the filling. At first it may seem very simple. That you can make upholstery from any fabric and that’s it. However, not everything is so simple.

  • Thick fabric that needs to be rolled in several layers. This is the worst option, since the fabric, no matter how dense it is, has a porous structure, which is why the filler may begin to spill out over time. Also, the fabric is not very durable, which means that if there are serious loads, it will probably simply tear and you will collect the “stuffing” from the floor. In addition, there is one more drawback: such a bag can only be hit with gloves, because without them you can tear the skin.
  • Tarpaulin. This material is better than the previous one, if only because the “filling” will not spill through it. However, if you decide to make tarpaulin sheathing, then still use several layers, each of which overall dimensions will be 1 centimeter smaller than the previous one. This is necessary so that this material does not burst and all the “filling” does not end up on the floor. It can also tear off your skin if you don't wear gloves.
  • Faux leather or leather. It makes the most sense to use leather for a punching bag or bag. This material is quite strong to withstand the load, and, at the same time, does not allow small “filling” to pass through. At the same time, you can hit such a projectile without gloves.

The most the best option is a combination of canvas and leather.

Now it’s time to decide what to fill the bag or pear with. Most often, sawdust or sand is used. The first is used to make a lighter and softer punching bag, and the second is used for a heavier and denser projectile. Although some use tracing paper or other non-sharp stones to make it heavier. You may have heard that I use rice instead of sand. Although, to keep your hands healthy, the best “filling” is crumb rubber.

So, let's move on to manufacturing. First, it's worth noting the difference between a punching bag and a punching bag. In the first case, the projectile has the shape of a cylinder, and the dimensions depend on the targets. And in the second - the shape of a pear, the size of a human head, maybe a little larger.

How to make a punching bag or bag

  1. Take the skin required size, fold in half and sew 2 parallel lines. Choose the distance between them yourself - this will be the diameter of the future “craft”. How does the form work? Quite simple. Fold the corners to one side of the rectangle and stitch them in an arc. The second similar bag is sewn one centimeter smaller than the first. You can make it from tarpaulin. If you want to make the pear or bag heavier, sew a third container of small diameter into which to pour stones. Make all seams in triples using thick nylon thread. It is also advisable to coat them with rubber glue.
  2. Now we finally decide what we will stuff it with and begin to do it. Fill the small bag with stones and insert it into the middle one. Fill that one (along the edges and below) with sand and put it in a leather one. Fill the latter with sawdust. When you’ve been exercising on the apparatus for a little while, sand and sawdust will pile up and you’ll need to add more. Of course, only you decide what to fill the shell with. In this article you only learned what is most suitable for this. Although any expert will say that it is better to use crumb rubber.
  3. It remains to come up with fasteners. You can go the hard way: top part sew a ring into the pears and attach the chains to the climbing carabiners. The second option is simpler. You need to cut a circle from plywood 12-15 millimeters thick. The diameter of the circle should be the same as the diameter of the top of the bag or pear. Drill a hole in the center of the circle for the rope. Insert the rope and tie a knot to secure it. Sew the resulting design into the projectile.

Now you know how to make a punching bag at home, most likely, you have already decided on the filling and lining, and chosen the mount. However, is the result worth the money, time and effort? Isn't it easier to buy a ready-made projectile?

Store-bought or homemade punching bag?

In fact, boxing equipment is very often used at home. The boy on this pear develops coordination of movements, reaction, dexterity, physical strength, builds character and gains confidence.

But what to choose: a store-bought pear or a home-made one?

You've previously read how to make a punching bag, so you have a good idea of the end result.

Firstly, it won’t be possible to fill the shell very tightly right away, so after a couple of classes you will need to add more, because sawdust and sand will settle down. In this case, this procedure will need to be repeated 5-6 times. But in the store, you can purchase a projectile that is already ready for use.

Secondly, it is very difficult to find crumb rubber as a filling, at least a small amount, and all other options are very inferior.

Thirdly, it is quite difficult to stitch several layers of leather with nylon thread. In this case, the seams will be less durable than in finished products from a trusted manufacturer.

You can find many more pros and cons, but it's up to you to decide. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money and like to do things with your own hands, then you should give preference to making them at home.
