Air handling units with gas heating. Comparison of heaters with direct gas flame heating with air heaters Layout and placement of gas air heaters

Life far from the equator dictates its own laws. As the outside temperature drops, the houses inside also cool down. In this review, we will consider a solution to the problem by choosing the best gas heaters - from portable ones (for a tent) to convectors for a home or cottage, which can replace a gas boiler.

Types of gas heaters

Gas convectors

Such heaters can have a closed or open combustion chamber. Models closed type To burn gas, air is taken from the street and combustion products are discharged there through a special pipe laid through the wall. They are well suited for a home or cottage and can become an alternative to a gas boiler. Models with open camera combustion is not very suitable for residential premises or requires the use of a vertical chimney.

Catalytic gas heaters

Devices of this type operate by oxidizing substances on the surface of the catalyst, which releases a large amount of heat. The process occurs almost silently and without flame. The catalytic combustion method is more reliable, efficient and safe compared to that used in conventional infrared heaters.

Ceramic gas heaters

By analogy with their electric counterparts, such heaters operate due to directed thermal radiation and heat not the air, but the surfaces of walls, objects, and also people present in the room. Acts only as a heating source gas-burner. The use of ceramic plates allows for complete combustion of fuel and eliminates harmful emissions.

Thermal gas guns

They have a cylindrical shape and operate on the principle of a fan heater, in which the role of a heating element is performed by a gas heat generator. They are powered by bottled gas, and the power is usually regulated by a gearbox.

Having a dacha or outside the city is the longed-for dream of many residents of modern megacities. Fresh air, tranquility, moderate physical work on the site, the absence of the crazy bustle of the city - what else is needed for good rest! Therefore, happy owners of dachas try to spend as much time there as possible, often moving completely outside the city for the entire summer season. And at other times, nature is very good, and trips to the dacha on weekends or holidays are practiced throughout the year, and often country estates even become the main “residence” of the owners.

But Fresh air and a calm, peaceful environment are not the only components of true home comfort. The premises must maintain a comfortable temperature level for residents, and this often becomes a problem. This is especially true when visiting a dacha in spring, autumn or winter, but the summer of 2017 shows that no one is immune from the cold even in such a seemingly favorable period. Not everyone has a real brick oven at their dacha, and you have to tinker with it for a long time to warm up the premises during a short-term visit. Electric heaters are quite “gluttonous” in terms of spending expensive energy. But there is very good decision, which is provided by modern heating devices– these are gas heaters for summer cottages.

Let's take a closer look at them - how they are classified, what operating principles are embedded in them, and how to approach choosing the optimal model.

Types of gas heaters and principles of their operation

Approximate classification of gas heaters, their general advantages and disadvantages

It would seem that the design of such heaters is common, and is based on the principle that a burning flame heats the air, which, in turn, provides normal temperature in room. However, this is not at all true. The device of many modern devices based on usage modern technologies heat generation and transfer. So both the design and the principle of operation different types Gas heaters can vary dramatically.

All gas heaters can be classified into several groups:

  • Heat gas guns (powerful fan heaters).
  • Ceramic gas heaters.
  • Gas convectors for stationary installation.
  • Catalytic gas heaters.
  • Compact portable gas heaters.
  • Outdoor infrared heaters.

Despite the differences in design and operating principles, all devices of this type have approximately the same advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages include the following:

  • Natural gas, network or liquefied, is the most affordable of all other types of energy carriers in terms of cost. That is, such heating will not require significant operating costs. Some models require a connection to the power supply network, for example, to ensure the operation of fans and the functioning of control units, but their electricity consumption is minimal and will in no way be an additional burden on the family budget.

  • The design of most gas heaters is quite simple and does not have complex components, which increases the reliability of such devices.
  • Modern heaters have a very decent efficiency factor, that is, this indicates the cost-effectiveness and efficiency of their operation.

With some exceptions, gas heaters are characterized by high mobility - they are small in size, easily moved from place to place, and transported in a car. Many models can even be taken with you on a hike, fishing, or just when going out into nature.

  • The operation of gas heating devices causes minimal damage to the environment - the products of complete combustion of gas are practically harmless.
  • The devices are usually easy to use.
  • Warming up of the premises is carried out very quickly - such devices are not characterized by inertia in operation. For the same reason - gas heaters react very sensitively and quickly to changing settings.
  • Modern products of this class are equipped with multi-level protection systems, which minimizes the likelihood of dangerous situations occurring.
  • Most devices are distinguished by enviable durability - they can serve faithfully for 10 years or more.

However, despite the numerous “advantages”, there are also negative aspects:

  • In any gas appliances, it is impossible to completely eliminate the problem of fire hazard, since highly flammable fuel is used, and the operation is accompanied by high-temperature heating. Such heaters require special precautions. It is unacceptable to leave them unattended if there are young children in the house.
  • Unburnt natural gas itself is very toxic, and any leak can cause very serious poisoning, even the most tragic consequences. That is, it imposes Additional requirements to operational safety.
  • The gas combustion process requires a constant flow of oxygen, which in many models is taken directly from the room where the device is installed. This means that it is necessary to carefully consider the supply and exhaust ventilation so that an uncomfortable, heavy, or even dangerous atmosphere for human health is not created in the rooms. By the way, the requirements for organizing ventilation directly refer to additional volumes of air circulation if the operation of gas appliances is planned in the room. And if with water or electric heating these issues are sometimes looked at “through the fingers,” then in the case of using gas heaters, a dismissive approach to ventilation is completely unacceptable.

What ventilation standards must be observed in a residential building?

This is not an idle question, and the requirements for ventilation are not taken “out of thin air” - they are clearly regulated by the current regulatory documents. You can read more about this in a special article on our portal dedicated to problems.

However, with proper use, such devices become reliable and faithful assistants, capable of quickly and effectively creating and maintaining the necessary comfort in country living conditions.

Well, now let’s look at the main types of gas heaters in more detail.

Gas heat guns

These devices actually vaguely resemble an artillery gun - a large metal cylinder, placed on a “carriage” - a stand.

One of the simplest types of gas heaters. The principle of operation is simple - a gas burner is placed inside the cylinder, and a conventional burner is installed behind it. electric fan, creating a directed flow of air heated by the flame. Electrical part The gas gun can be powered by mains or battery. As a rule, such devices are designed to be connected to a liquefied gas (propane) cylinder.

The advantage of such heaters is their low cost and simplicity of design. They are mobile - they are easy to move to the right place, and for this purpose special handles are usually provided on the cylindrical casing.

Such devices are usually equipped with a piezo ignition system. Certain stages of protection and ensuring operational safety are also provided. Thus, special sensors monitor the presence of flames, the temperature of the housing, and the oxygen content in the room. In the event of an emergency, the device will be automatically turned off and the gas supply to the burner will be cut off.

However, such heaters have many disadvantages. First of all, they are quite bulky for a living space. Direct combustion of gas requires a large volume of constantly supplied air, and the combustion products do not produce a particularly pleasant odor. In addition, an open flame is a big safety drawback.

Prices for gas heat guns RESANTA

Gas gun RESANTA

Another significant drawback The operation of such heaters results in a fairly high noise level. It can reach up to 70 decibels, which is clearly too much for a comfortable environment in the house.

In a word, they try not to use such heaters in residential premises. But to heat, say, a workshop during work, a garage, construction site or some kind of agricultural building - this is a very good option. Due to the directed hot flow, heating of even a large room will be ensured very quickly.

Ceramic gas heaters

But such devices can already be “put into the house.” The level of safety of their operation is much higher, due to a different principle of heat transfer.

This device also has a gas burner, and it creates numerous, but very small flames that heat not the surrounding air, but a special ceramic emitter. He, in turn, warms up to very high temperatures(600 to 800 degrees) becomes powerful source infrared rays. Well, the advantages of infrared heating are known - thermal energy can be transmitted over considerable distances without dissipating in the air, but, being absorbed by optically opaque objects (including the human body), causing them to heat up. Well, heated objects, in turn, including, for example, walls, floors, ceilings, furniture, etc., will “share” heat through direct heat transfer with the air in the room. There are no fans, that is, the operation of the device is almost completely silent.

Such devices can be connected to mains gas or run from a gas cylinder. By the way, the design of the body of many models provides for the hidden placement of a standard cylinder in it.

The range of heaters of this type offered for sale is very wide. Moreover, models can differ in size and power, in external design, and in the way they are installed indoors.

So, you can purchase a very miniature heater, almost table-top, with a small gas cylinder inside. Such a device is suitable for creating a local heating zone, for example, in a place where the owners traditionally relax.

Ceramic heaters can be very “tiny” - practically tabletop

For complete heating of the room, more “monumental” floor-mounted devices are used, like those shown in the illustration above.

It is also practiced to install heaters of a similar operating principle on walls and ceilings - they have a specific body shape that ensures directed flow infrared heat in a given sector.

Such devices are very effective both for completely heating the room and for creating “increased comfort” zones. True, ventilation will still have to be provided for them - gas combustion, one way or another, requires an influx of oxygen.

The safety system, in addition to the protection levels listed above, also provides for turning off the device in the event of its overturning. That is, the risk of overheating, for example, the floor surface due to careless handling or the fault of naughty children, is minimal.

Gas heaters of catalytic operating principle

This type of gas heaters can easily be called the safest to operate. The fact is that there is no open flame at all - the oxidation of gaseous hydrocarbons occurs on a chemical basis, due to a special fiberglass heating element, in which the finest platinum coating is used as a catalyst to ensure the desired reaction. Be that as it may, it is still a process of “combustion”, that is, oxidation, with the corresponding production of thermal energy.

With this combustion of gas, a minimum amount of oxygen is consumed, which has a positive effect on the atmosphere in the room. The lineup– is wide enough, and you can purchase both a heater for full heating of a quite decent-sized room, and a compact mobile version.

In principle, devices with a catalytic operating principle could be considered the best option. The only drawback is their rather high price - but this is due to the peculiarities of their production technology.

Stationary gas convectors

If permanent residence is expected at the dacha, or trips out of town even in winter are regular, then the best option will be the installation of a stationary gas heater convector type.

Once installed, such heaters become indistinguishable from conventional heating convectors. The same characteristic rectangular body, “spread” along the wall, with slot-like openings at the bottom for the entry of cold air, and at the top for the exit of heated air.

But inside, of course, the device is different. There is a combustion chamber (most often a closed type) and a heat exchanger, cast iron or steel, through which flows of heated air pass. Cast iron heat exchangers are considered more durable, but they are heavy and somewhat inert. Steel ones are lighter and react faster to changes in settings or to the activation of the thermostat.

Majority modern models It has closed chamber combustion, that is, the air flow is carried out from the street, and gas combustion products are directly emitted there, which is extremely convenient. In addition, such devices practically do not represent fire danger, since the flame does not come into contact with the air in the room at all. Air is supplied and gases are discharged through a coaxial chimney, vented outside through a hole in the wall. This, in principle, predetermines the stationary placement of such devices.

Such devices are not particularly expensive; they work equally well (after appropriate reconfiguration) with both mains and liquefied gas. Convectors for stationary installation correct selection power may well serve as the main, that is, the only source of heat at any time of the year.

The disadvantages are small, and even then they are very conditional. This is the immobility of the device (as well as any heating radiator) and the dependence on the availability of the power supply necessary for the operation of the coaxial chimney fan.

Execution can be different - from laconic forms to decorative “screens”, in which, by the way, the appearance of fire can be created, for greater picturesqueness.

There are gas fireplaces with an open combustion chamber, but they are somewhat more complicated - you will need to organize a full-fledged chimney. So for country conditions this is probably not the most convenient option.

Outdoor infrared gas heaters

Agree, it’s nice to spend time outside in the evening with family or friends. But sometimes cool weather simply drives you into rooms where the atmosphere is not at all the same. But there is a solution to this problem too!

We are talking about outdoor gas heaters, which are capable of creating and maintaining within a certain radius around themselves comfortable atmosphere even in very cold weather. Such devices are usually given a characteristic shape, stylized as Street lights or original illuminated columns.

Such heaters operate from liquefied gas, the cylinder with which, as a rule, is invisible, since it is hidden at the base of the device. The block with burners and infrared emitters (usually ceramic type) is placed upward and has a reflector on top - a reflector that directs the heat flow cone-shaped downwards.

However, the shape may be different - for example, the emitter is located vertically, and the spread of infrared heat goes radially in all directions. There are also directional devices that distribute flows of radiant heat in a certain sector.

The devices are good for everyone - they are capable of creating a truly pleasant atmosphere even in cool weather. Everything is explained simply: the state of comfort does not always depend only on the air temperature - the direct perception of infrared radiation energy also plays a very important role. Remember a frosty sunny day - the warmth from the rays of the Sun is very well felt by the skin. And in photographs from alpine resorts, people sunbathing in the snow are quite a common occurrence. Exactly the same principle is used here.

Such heaters are widely used in places of traditional recreation, for example, open terraces cafes and restaurants. Having such a device at home is a very expensive pleasure, and they are very rare in the everyday life of the average summer resident. But if there is a family celebration planned or a meeting of friends outdoors, then, judging by the advertisements, there is the possibility of renting for an evening or two. This practice is widespread, and for little money you can very well organize a comfortable picnic in the open air.

"Camping" gas heaters

Heaters of this type have already been partially mentioned above. They can be of different types, but they are united by their small dimensions and weight, that is, the devices have exceptional mobility.

Many models have a gas reservoir located inside, very compact, similar to an aerosol can. Other devices are connected via a hose to a standard small-capacity cylinder.

With such a heater it is quite possible to warm up the air in the tent in the evening, or install it near you while fishing if it’s cold. They are often used in home workshops if it is necessary to perform this or that work in winter. And some models have another interesting “option” - a well-thought-out system of stands and brackets allows you to turn the heater into a gas stove on which you can quickly boil water or cook food.

In a word, even if heating issues are not so pressing, having such a small-sized gas appliance in your household will probably never be superfluous.

What is assessed when choosing gas heaters for a summer residence

If there is a need to purchase a gas heater for your dacha, you can be guided by the following criteria when choosing the optimal model:

  • First of all, you need to clearly formulate to yourself why you are purchasing the device. Agree that heating a living room, outbuilding, garage or camp “dwelling” - things are completely different. About the main purpose various types devices have already been mentioned, but a few more tips would be appropriate.

If permanent residence is planned at the dacha, then optimal choice will be a gas convector for a stationary installation - it will ensure proper savings and constant maintenance of the required microclimate. But in the case when trips outside the city are carried out infrequently, it is undesirable to install such a device. Firstly, it can simply be “stolen”. And secondly, due to its capabilities, it will not be able to create a comfortable atmosphere in the shortest possible time - with convection heating, this requires a certain time. For such use, it is better to get a ceramic infrared heater. It is easy to carry it in the trunk of a car, and the heating from it in the sector of its action begins to be felt almost immediately - in this characteristic feature radial propagation of thermal energy.

  • The power of the device must correspond to the intended use. It is useless to expect miracles from a low-power compact portable heater - it will not be able, say, to provide the proper temperature in a spacious room. Yes, that's not what it was created for.

If the task of replacing the heating system with a heater is not worth it, and the device will be used only in the off-season, the “race” for power will simply be inappropriate. But even in the case when a gas appliance is assigned the function of the main heat source, purchasing a model based on the principle “the more powerful the better” is also not a very reasonable approach. The choice must be balanced - there is no point in paying extra money for excess power, which either remains unclaimed, or which will most likely result in excessive gas consumption and an overly hot atmosphere in the premises.

How to approach the choice of power of any heating device (not just gas) will be described in the appendix to this article.

  • often equipped with thermostatic regulators, with which you can set the desired temperature level in the room. When a given threshold is reached, the gas supply to the main burner is stopped and will be resumed only after the temperature drops to a certain lower limit.

It is also very convenient if the device has the ability to stepwise or smoothly adjust the heating power - either the number of burners used or the pressure of the gas supplied to them changes. Such options significantly reduce the consumption of “blue fuel” and increase the durability of the heater, since it will mostly operate in a “gentle mode”.

  • The degree of safety of operation of the heater must be assessed. This has already been mentioned - protection is activated, that is, the device is turned off in case of overheating, insufficient oxygen, in case of overturning, gas leak and other possible emergency situations.
  • Dimensions, weight, mobility, that is, the presence of a wheeled trolley or carrying handles, external design- all this is at the discretion of the future owners of the heater.
  • It would be a complete gamble to acquire such equipment second-hand or from “not entirely clear” retail outlets. Whatever one may say, gas heaters are high-risk devices, therefore, they must pass factory tests, which is confirmed in the product passport. In addition, the manufacturer's warranty will only be valid if there is a corresponding mark from a specialized store in the documentation of the device.
  • Prices for gas household heaters vary widely – from 1–3 thousand rubles for compact low-power models, to 30 thousand or more for “sophisticated” devices. Here the financial viability of the buyer comes to the fore.

Gas stove KOVEA

They often operate with the ratio: 1 kW of thermal energy per 10 m² of room area with an average ceiling height of 2.5 ÷ 2.7 m. You can follow this simplified path, but a serious mistake in one direction or another cannot be ruled out. The point is that the indicators required power depend not only on the size of the room - there are many other criteria related to both the location of the house (for example, climatic conditions region of residence), and with the characteristics of a particular premises. Therefore, it would be advisable to carry out a more accurate calculation taking into account these factors. Moreover, such calculations will not take much time - we suggest using a special calculator for this.

Below, under the calculator, brief explanations on working with them will be given.

Air handling units with gas heating air from Sonniger

Air heaters are widely used in Moscow at modern enterprises and warehouse facilities. These are very efficient devices that can provide heat to even the most large areas. In addition, such equipment can be used not only for heating purposes, but also for ventilation of rooms and removal of harmful and caustic gases and fumes.

In my own way appearance These devices are thermally insulated panels of 2 sheets (internal and external) of stainless steel with thermal insulation inside, a functional heat exchanger made of stainless steel AISI 430, AISI 441, as well as a ventilation section with leading NICOTRA/GEBHARDT fans, the main task of which is to suck in air for further processing and supply it indoors. Initially, it may seem that gas supply units are complex devices, but this is not the case, since every consumer can use such equipment. Having ordered such heat generators, you will no longer have to return to the question of providing your facility with comfortable working conditions, since these installations will perfectly cope with the mission assigned to them.

Hot mix heat exchanger

The thermomechanical load range of the plate is from 0.5 to 1.5 m and the “long” thermal circuit will cover a large load volume, up to 70 m 3 /h in the case of a single-phase solution - this means that all connections will be in the head part. This will guarantee easy implementation of service and pipe work and, in the event of dismantling the heat exchanger, there will be no need to dismantle the pipes. Heat transfer is made possible when a warm medium transfers energy through thin, high-performance plates between channels and delivers it to a cold, antagonistic medium without mixing them. Counterflow creates optimal efficiency. The plates, as well as the inlet design, allow for easy and efficient in-place cleaning (washing) of all flow surfaces.

The corrugated fir-tree-shaped surface provides a turbulent flow of a total effective area. In addition, this surface allows “metal to metal” contact between the plates, and together with the locking device on the seal, the plate package is easily mounted. The plate pack is safely located between the movable and fixed frame supports.
