Making a manual snow scraper. What inventions of shovels and scrapers for snow removal do we see on our streets? The simplest and lightest snow scraper

Despite all the talk about global warming, winters in most regions of our country continue to be harsh, so it is not uncommon for heavy snowfall to impede the movement of vehicles and even the movement of passers-by through courtyards and streets. This issue is especially relevant for owners of cottages or country houses, since they have to rely only on own strength. Of course, you can buy a mini snowplow, but not everyone can afford it. In addition, sometimes its use is difficult and even impossible, which is why the snow scraper continues to be a popular tool.

How to choose

Today, you can find a variety of scrapers in stores for cleaning sidewalks, yards, and steps. They are mechanical and manual. If you are not ready to spend a lot of money, you will have to purchase a manual scraper. It is often called a pusher or scraper in English, emphasizing the main purpose of this product - to push and scrape. Regardless of whether we are talking about a store-bought product or deciding how to make a snow scraper with your own hands, it should be:

  • light;
  • durable;
  • having a comfortable non-slip handle made of material with poor thermal conductivity, which will prevent the hands of the person doing the cleaning from freezing.

From the above, it is clear that when choosing a snow scraper, it is better to pay attention to options made of plastic or aluminum, as they are durable and at the same time lightweight. In this case, the person doing the cleaning will be less tired, and the likelihood that the device will break will be reduced to zero. In addition, it is desirable that the handle be covered with rubber to prevent the hands from slipping, and that the height of the tool corresponds to the height of the person who will use it, since working in a hunched position is not particularly convenient.

DIY snow scraper (shovel type)

Everything that has been said regarding the choice of such devices in the store also applies to homemade tools for cleaning the yard or sidewalks. The easiest way to make a hand scraper is one that resembles a shovel. To make it, you can use an ordinary aluminum sheet measuring 40-50 cm, bent along the upper edge so as to form a side 4-5 cm high. You can also bend the side sides, and make the handle in the form of a frame, like the one found in

Wood scraper

To make a snow scraper with your own hands with sides made of pine boards measuring 210x23x2.5 cm, you will also need a strip of the same material with a length of 280, a width of 8, and a thickness of 2.5 cm. You will also need to use iron measuring 73 by 70 cm .

Instead of a lath, the round handle of an old shovel will also work as a handle for a scraper. Moreover, the width and length of the scraper can be taken different from those indicated, taking into account the fact that the device must pass freely through the gate.

The bottom of the scraper is made of an iron sheet, to which sides cut from a board are attached with screws or self-tapping screws. Such a tool can also be useful in the spring, since by adding wheels from a baby stroller to it and strengthening the bottom, you can turn it into a light wheelbarrow for removing sawdust and garbage. In this case, the wheel axle must be placed between 2 boards and secured on both sides with metal plates.

Scraper on wheels

Rolling is always easier than dragging. Having guessed this, our distant ancestors came up with wheels. They can also be used to facilitate the process of removing snow using a manual scraper. To make such upgraded device you will need a plastic or aluminum pipe with a diameter of 27 cm, from which you need to cut a sector with a side length 2-3 cm less than the section. The result will be a part that will be used as a blade. As for the frame, an old baby stroller will come in handy to create it, which will probably be found in any home where there are preschoolers or schoolchildren. You will also need to remove old water pipes. Next you need to perform the following operations:

  • create slots in the pipes on one side for the wheel axle, and on the other, weld them to the blade;
  • make ears from which to fasten the racks;
  • make 3 holes in the upper part of the racks so that you can control the height of the handle;
  • if you intend to use such a homemade scraper to remove snow on asphalt, then you can attach a conveyor protective tape to the lower edge of the blade;
  • paint the scraper to protect the metal from corrosion and give the tool a finished, presentable look.

This product will be an excellent helper, as it is convenient to use and does not scratch road surface. In addition, it can be adjusted in height to suit the user.

Homemade snow scraper on skids: what you need

Wheels are not the only way to make the scraper easier to move. It will move easily if you install the blade on the runners.

To make such useful device you will need:

  • metal, preferably 800 by 1500 mm in size;
  • thin pipe for the handle;
  • two pieces of metal corner, each 1 m long, which will act as runners.

How to make a scraper on skids

To make a scraper that glides freely through the snow, you need:

  • bend the ends of the metal knots;
  • attach a handle to them at a distance of 25-35 mm from the front end of the runners;
  • stepping 2 mm forward from the posts, install 2 pins;
  • secure the scraper;
  • install top part blades using clamps to help control the height of the device.

If the snow scraper, the photo of the diagram of which is presented below, is intended for a summer residence and may need to be transported by car, then the scraper can be made folding.

Motorized option

Cleaning the yard and street in winter can be made easier if you make your own snow scraper using a walk-behind tractor. To do this, you don’t have to make any special efforts, since it’s enough to attach a snow removal cloth made, for example, from a curved sheet to the bumper stainless steel. You can also use a ready-made blade. You can also install a snow blade on your bike by attaching it below the handlebars.

Plywood shovel scraper

If a scraper is needed urgently and is intended to be used only for one season, then such a tool can be made in a couple of hours. To quickly make a snow scraper with your own hands, you will need a thick sheet of 50 by 50 cm, the surface of which should be treated with moisture-repellent impregnation, and the edge - epoxy resin. It should be lined with aluminum on both sides to ensure ease of sliding. As for the handle, it needs to be made somewhat shorter than that of conventional shovels, and the edge that was supposed to be attached to the scraper needs to be cut at an angle of 45 degrees. To make the scraper reliable, you need to drill 6 mm holes in two places and install bolts and nuts. Next, the cutting should be secured using a wooden plank so as to increase the angle of attachment.

Now you know several ways to make a snow scraper and you can face the winter fully armed.

On the eve of winter, I decided to make myself a manual snow scraper. Basic conditions: ease of use without the use of great physical effort and maximum cheapness in production. Since the scraper is necessary for clearing the snow from the sidewalk in front of the house, the area in front of the garage and the internal courtyard paths, I swept away the “Snow Scraper on Skids” immediately, because. it is more suitable for cleaning ice fields, but the runners will have to be dragged with great effort on asphalt and soil. Therefore, it was decided to make a snow scraper on wheels.

The question of what to make the scraper blade out of was resolved immediately; I had a piece of pipe with a diameter of 27 cm, I cut a sector out of it and after processing it turned out to be a finished blade. An old baby stroller was found to make a frame with a handle. I made the stops from old water pipes, made slots in them on one side for the wheel axle, and on the other side welded them to the blade of the scraper blade. From metal corners I made lugs for attaching the racks; they were also welded to the blade of the scraper blade. To facilitate the design for the racks, I did not use water pipes, I found thin-walled bronze pipes in my garage. Tried it in place, cut it to required size and drilled holes at the ends for M6 bolts. At the upper ends of the racks I drilled three more holes of the same diameter to be able to adjust the height of the handle. In order to avoid scratching concrete and asphalt pavements and curbs, a piece of conveyor belt was attached with self-tapping screws to the bottom of the scraper blade. After assembly, I painted it to give it a more or less decent look.
I do not provide drawings and specific dimensions and recommendations, because... everything was done “in the Russian way” - not a peephole and from scrap, which had long been asking for scrap metal and a landfill.
Now I'll wait for snow for testing. I'll describe the results.
Attention: to enlarge pictures, just move your mouse cursor over the picture and wait 1-2 seconds.

Continuation: With some decent snow finally falling, you can start testing the effectiveness of your homemade snow scraper.

The first impression of working with it is excellent; cleaning snow is surprisingly easy and pleasant. The snow was indeed freshly fallen, not compacted. Thanks to the conveyor belt, the scraper moves well along the ground and does not get stuck on uneven surfaces. In a word, the design turned out to be successful. Even my wife couldn’t stand it, she took the scraper from me and started cleaning the area. According to her, our snow scraper is much better than any shovel.

Conclusion: The design of the snow scraper on wheels turned out to be very successful, although improvements are possible.

One of the possible directions for improvement: Make a variable angle of the blade from zero to about 35 degrees, so that it can be used not only as a scraper, but also as a bulldozer-type scraper. True, this will complicate the design a little. I definitely won’t be doing this in the near future, since I am completely satisfied with the ready-made option.

With the onset of winter, owners of private territories have new concerns. They have to constantly clear the snow from the courtyard area. To make this difficult work more convenient, it doesn’t hurt to have a portable snow removal tool for such cases. Most often, owners use a manual snow scraper, which allows you to quickly clear sediment from adjacent areas, exterior items and roofs of houses.

Before you go to the store to buy suitable tool, you should find out which manufacturers produce the highest quality and most reliable snow removal equipment. But to ensure that your snow shovel doesn’t disappoint, you need to look beyond the manufacturer. The ease of use of the purchased device largely depends on the size and material. If you wish, you can consider the option of making a snow shovel with your own hands, but in this case, you will first have to find out all the nuances regarding such devices.

In the design of a snow shovel, two main elements can be distinguished - a bucket for collecting snow and a handle. Sometimes in stores you can find models that are made using more details. But even with such differences, similar instances are intended to perform the same function.

Traditionally, wood, plastic and metal are used to make snow shovels.

Made of plastic

The plastic used by manufacturers must be frost-resistant.

For some models, it is complemented by a metal edging on the bucket, which allows the product to more easily withstand mechanical loads and increases its service life. Plastic shovels are more convenient to use due to their light weight. This perfect solution for women and teenagers. At the production stage, the material is processed chemical compounds, and the area near the handle with the bucket is protected by a special edging, which makes the product more wear-resistant.

Made of wood

They are most often chosen by those owners who want to save money. The main disadvantage of such devices is the fragility of the material. In addition, wood tolerates moisture much worse than plastic, which very quickly causes cracks to appear on the surface. Wooden snow shovels are best used for removing recently fallen snow. In order to easily cope with ice and wet precipitation, you will need to additionally equip the bucket with a metal edging, which will increase the service life of the tool.

Made of metal

These shovels are the most durable and therefore last longer than other snow removal tools. But they are also more expensive than other types, although this is not surprising, given their high level execution. Metal shovels can easily handle not only snow, but also ice.

To get less tired, you can purchase a tool made of aluminum or duralumin, which weighs less than steel products. Aluminum is lighter than wood, but still does not have the same incredible strength as metal shovels. In comparison, duralumin looks preferable, because this material is much stronger, although much heavier than ordinary aluminum. Steel shovels require considerable physical effort, so, as a rule, only men work with them.

When evaluating shovels by weight, you also need to pay attention to the handle. For more comfortable work the cutting must correspond to the height of the owner. Cleaning the area with a short-handled shovel will be very tedious.

Equally important so that the bucket has the appropriate width. The wider it is, the more snow can be assembled into it. But to remove wet sediment, it is best to purchase a small shovel.

It is most convenient to clear the courtyard area of snow using a three-sided model, since it allows you to retain all the collected light and loose snow. Its bucket has longitudinal ribs that increase the degree of its sliding over the surface.

When choosing a snow removal tool, you need to pay attention to the nature of the work and the individual load.

So that snow clearing equipment can be transported in a car and conveniently stored, manufacturers produce special folding and collapsible models. There are solutions for children too - small shovels that will allow even little helpers to take part in joint cleaning.

Making a shovel with your own hands

You don't have to spend money on buying a snow shovel.

If desired, each owner can make it themselves, thereby saving not only money, but also time searching for a suitable model.

There are no particular difficulties in making a shovel for removing snow. Many owners of private territories have been manufacturing wooden products with your own hands. But for those who are about to make a wooden snow shovel on their own for the first time, it wouldn’t hurt to first find out what materials will be needed for this work:

  • nails and screws;
  • wooden slats;
  • strip of galvanized steel;
  • plywood sheets 5 cm thick.

After preparing everything you need, you can proceed directly to assembling the tool:

  1. First you need to make a back wall, for which you will need a piece of plywood 4-5 cm wide. This part should be in the form of an arc and have a height in the center of no more than 8 cm, and in the area of the sidewalls narrow to 5 cm. For further fastening of the handle, you need to Make a cut in the middle with a bevel of about 1 cm.
  2. Now you need to attach the rail to the profile of the back wall and mark the place for cutting off the excess. In this case, the cutting will fit tightly into the cut.
  3. After the scoop is ready, it needs to be attached to the arc wall and secured with nails. Usually three nails are enough - one is driven exactly in the middle to the back wall, and the other two - on the sides. Be sure to inspect the bucket and make sure there are no gaps. Otherwise, during cleaning, stuck pieces of snow will be absorbed into the material, which as a result will very quickly deform.
  4. After making sure that the edge of the handle is closely adjacent to the plywood sheet, it must be secured with self-tapping screws.
  5. For the lower edge of the scoop, in order to strengthen the fixation at the junction of the handle with the back wall, you need to prepare steel strips required length. The finished strips are attached to the wood with self-tapping screws.

In order for the snow clearing tool to last a long time, it is advisable to make a bucket for it from stainless steel or galvanized metal.

To better understand what this will look like, Let's take a closer look at the workflow:

Scrapers for the garden

There are periods when there is more snow than usual, and you have to devote a lot of time to cleaning the area. It is not always possible to quickly cope with this task even with the help of a wide shovel. For such a case, it would not hurt the owners of private territories to have a scraper in their arsenal - a scraper for removing snow. A similar tool in its own way appearance represents a regular snow shovel, only with a wide bucket. With the help of this device, you can, without much effort, clear areas near your house and paths from snow masses.

Structurally, the scraper looks like a wide bucket for clearing snow with a large arched handle attached to it. Depending on the size, you can use this tool with two or four hands. Working together with a drag scraper allows you to clear an area of snow by moving large layers of snow.

But such devices can only be used for removing light snowfall. To remove compacted snow masses and areas of ice, you will have to use a shovel. Although in this case there is good decision- scraper on two or four wheels. With the help of such a shovel, you can clear the area of wet deposits without much effort.

Scrapers are similar to snow shovels in many respects. In particular, manufacturers use the same materials for their manufacture.

DIY making

To make your own snow scraper, you do not need to have any special knowledge. This tool differs from a regular shovel in that it requires more material. But even in this case, it will still be economical.

To make a simple wooden scraper yourself, you will need wooden board and a couple of bars. One side needs to be covered with a metal strip to improve the sliding of the device. The bars will be needed to make a square frame, which is subsequently attached on one side to the board using self-tapping screws.

But we can offer another option for manufacturing a scraper, which involves adding wheels to the design. For such a snow removal tool you need to prepare the following:

  • sheet metal;
  • a handle in the shape of an arc (for example, from an old stroller);
  • self-tapping screws;
  • two small wheels;
  • narrow steel pipes;
  • conveyor belt;
  • welding machine.

The process of making a snow scraper on wheels will look like this:

It is not always possible to find on the farm metal sheet. In this case, it can be replaced with any ownerless pipe large diameter. You need to cut it into two parts, and then take one and use it as a scoop.

Winter is a difficult time for owners of private territories. At this time of year they have to regularly clear the area of fallen snow. But it will be easier to do this job if they have special tool. Most often, a snow shovel is used for this purpose. But for larger territories it is not always enough.

In such a case, it won’t hurt to purchase a snow scraper. Although this device for clearing snow from an area can be made with your own hands.

Due to the fact that the scraper has simple design, it can be made from what is available in every household wooden lumber and thereby save a considerable amount cash. But the main thing is that the snow scraper will ideally meet the owner’s requirements, which will make the work as convenient and efficient as possible.

A durable shovel in winter helps to quickly remove snow from summer cottage, roofs of a house or car. Learn how to make a snow shovel from scrap materials without spending extra money. Snow removal tools are made of wood, plastic and metal, orthopedic handles are designed for them and wheels are attached to the bucket for ease of movement. Particularly demanding users design and create automatic mechanisms for cleaning based on rotary engines.

General rules and requirements for manufacturing

A snow shovel must meet a number of characteristics - consider this before manufacturing:

  • durable bucket that can withstand snow load;
  • the depth of the bucket corresponds to the length of the handle, the surface is desirable to be ribbed to facilitate movement on the snow;
  • handle with a handle at the end and a rubber insert to prevent slipping;
  • cutting length suitable for growth.

A homemade snow shovel is no worse than a store-bought one

When designing the design of a shovel, if possible, avoid the folding handle - it reduces the strength of the product. Choose the width of the bucket depending on your physical characteristics. With a wide shovel you can carry more snow, but there's no point in it if you can't lift it. Having drawn up the project, start making the tool.

The more convenient the shovel, the easier it is to remove snow.

Traditional snow shovel

The easiest option to make with your own hands is a wooden snow shovel. A little more complicated - plastic and metal tools, the most difficult ones are snow rollers and auger sweepers.

Plywood shovel with wooden handle

To create a wooden shovel you will need OSB sheet or plywood, a 50x8 cm board, aluminum strips, as well as a cutting - ready-made can be bought at hardware store. Prepare the following tools:

  • sandpaper;
  • jigsaw and files;
  • self-tapping screws 4 cm long and small nails;
  • drill with toothed bits;
  • screwdriver;
  • impregnation for wood.

Wooden snow removal tool

How to make a snow shovel:

  1. From a sheet of plywood 6 mm thick, use a jigsaw to cut out a square base of the bucket measuring 50x50 cm.
  2. Cut a crescent 50 cm long from the board. The width of the central part should be 8 cm, and the side parts should be 5 cm.
  3. Drill in the center of the board round hole diameter equal to the diameter of the cutting. To attach the handle at an angle, drill a hole with a 1 cm bevel.
  4. Insert the handle into the hole and measure the length of the handle to suit your height. Saw the cutting to the desired length at an angle and, if necessary, sand it with sandpaper.
  5. Secure the plywood sheet and the half-moon back wall with nails.
  6. In the center of the scoop, draw a straight line along which you will attach the handle.
  7. Place the sawn-off cutting into the hole, align it along the line and screw it onto the self-tapping screws. To prevent the plywood from cracking, pre-drill holes.
  8. Make a metal reinforcement for the scoop - fasten an aluminum strip 5-7 cm wide along the bottom edge. To do this, bend the strip in half, place it on the base and hit it with a hammer several times. Bend the protruding edges with a hammer as well. Drive three or four nails along the length of the strip to strengthen the structure.
  9. Strengthen the connection with a second strip plywood sheet with the back wall, and the third - the connection between the bucket and the handle.

Classics of the genre

Treat the shovel with antifungal impregnation and leave for a day. In a day it will be ready for use.

Where to find materials if you don’t want to spend money:

  • plywood - ask at the nearest sawmill;
  • handle - make it yourself from a 50x50 mm block or detach it from an unnecessary tool;
  • aluminum strips - cut from tin cans;
  • impregnation - replace with unused paint residues.

Metal helper made from a baking sheet or lid

Metal shovels are often rejected as they are considered expensive to manufacture and excessively heavy. In fact, you can make a snow shovel with your own hands for free, using materials and tools available on the farm.

You will need:

  • aluminum lid with a diameter of 60 cm or a baking tray 60x40 cm;
  • metal tape 3 mm thick;
  • wooden stalk;
  • grinder or jigsaw with a metal file;
  • electric drill;
  • rivet gun.

Saw off one side of the old baking sheet to create a base for the ladle.

How to make a snow shovel:

  1. Prepare an aluminum base for the bucket. Using a jigsaw or grinder, saw off the edges of the lid or baking sheet so that you get a square measuring 50x50 cm or a rectangle 40x60 cm.
  2. Reinforce the bucket. Take a metal strip and cut three strips equal to the length of the ladle, and then three more equal to the width. In each strip, drill holes every 4 cm with a drill. Place the strips on the bucket in the form of a grid and secure with rivets.
  3. Attach the cutting to the ladle and measure the length. Use a jigsaw to saw off the excess part of the handle.
  4. Cut 2 strips 8-10 cm long from a metal strip. Using a hammer, hammer the strips into the handle at a distance of 7-10 cm from each other, and secure the protruding edges to the bucket with rivets.

Plastic is not afraid of moisture

Cover wooden part varnish or antifungal impregnation to increase the service life of the tool. Snow shovel will last for several years if used in winter strictly as intended.

Plastic toiler from an old canister

The simplest way make a plastic snow shovel with your own hands - attach the finished bucket blade to wooden handle.

Advantages of plastic over wood and metal:

  • the material is durable - does not rust or rot;
  • The weight of a plastic shovel is half that of a wooden one;
  • a wide range of ready-made ladles in stores.

Ready-made bucket from the store

When buying a bucket base in a store, check its strength. Try bending it - it shouldn't break. You can use scrap materials for making plastic barrels and canisters with wall thickness from 6 mm.

How to make a snow shovel from plastic:

  1. Using a jigsaw, cut out a base measuring 50x50 cm from the barrel. Do not pay attention to the unevenness - they will grind off the first time you clear the snow.
  2. In the center of the scoop, draw a straight line along which the cutting will be attached.
  3. Attach the handle to the base of the scoop and secure with a countersunk screw.
  4. Place aluminum or steel strips over the handle and secure with rivets.
  5. Coat the handle with varnish.

If you do not plan to remove large volumes of snow, you can attach the handle to nails and reinforce it with wire.

Snow roller on wheels for quick removal

A type of snow shovel is a wheeled shovel, also called a “plow”. Key device requirements:

Example of manual rollback for snow

To make a snow roller, you will need:

  • drawing or project;
  • two wheels for trolleys;
  • sheet steel 1 mm thick (can be used metal pipe diameter 30-40 cm);
  • steel tube with a diameter of 20-40 mm.
  • Bulgarian;
  • welding machine.

Procedure:

  1. Construct a recoil blade from sheet steel. The optimal length is 70 cm, width 40 cm. If you are using a pipe as the starting material, use a grinder to cut a piece of the required length and saw it lengthwise into two parts.
  2. Weld a 20x10 cm metal plate to the back of the blade. Drill three holes in it - one for the mounting bolt and two for the stopper that fixes the blade at a certain angle.
  3. From steel tube cut the stalk. Select the length according to your own height.
  4. Weld two flanged metal plates along the bottom of the handle, having previously drilled holes in them for installation on the wheel axle.
  5. Weld a handle to the top part - a horizontal piece of tube 30-40 cm long.
  6. From a tube with a diameter of 30 mm, cut off a piece 60 cm long. Place the handle on the axle and secure it in the middle with locking rings. At the edges of the axle, secure the wheels at a distance of 50-55 cm from each other.
  7. Weld a horizontal tube to the lower end of the handle to attach the blade.
  8. Secure the blade to the tube with a bolt.
  9. Cover the finished snow dump with paint.

The rollback base can be made from a pipe

You can run a conveyor belt along the bottom of the blade for better glide. Alternative option recoil – four-wheeled.

DIY shovel with auger shaft

An auger is a kind of screw that rotates inside the scraper of a shovel as it moves. The snow travels in a spiral and is thrown to the side through the chute. Types of auger snow shovels:

  • manual single-stage - the auger rotates as it moves and the snow is thrown away due to the rotation of the shaft;
  • automatic rotary - the auger rotates due to the operation of the engine and is thrown into a chute from the fan.

Snow throw distance in rotary mechanisms up to 12 meters, while the range and speed of ejection can be adjusted.

Auger Shovel

Manual snow removal unit

Auger snow shovel seems complex mechanism, but you can make it yourself even at home.

You will need:

  • sheet iron;
  • plywood;
  • metal rings and bearings;
  • screw;
  • two toothed sprockets;
  • drill;
  • welding machine.

Screw shaft factory

How to make a snow shovel with an auger:

  1. Assemble the scraper body. Make the back and side walls from sheet iron and weld them together. If welding is not possible, secure with bolts.
  2. Make holes in the sides and install the auger. You can also make it yourself by welding U-shaped plates of sheet iron to a pipe with a diameter of 5 cm at an angle of 180° to each other and attaching a spiral of sheet iron to them. The auger shaft must extend beyond the boundaries of the housing by at least 6 cm on each side.
  3. From a metal tube with a diameter of 30 mm, cut off a piece with a length equal to the length of the body. Weld an asterisk to the central part of the tube, and secure the wheels at the edges using locking rings.
  4. Weld a second sprocket onto the auger shaft and connect it with a chain to the first one on the wheel axle. Design a handle of optimal length and weld it to the body.

When driving on snow, the wheels will begin to spin, the rotation will be transmitted through the chain to the shaft, and the snow masses will recline.

Project of an auger snow blower for a walk-behind tractor

Mechanical snow blower with motor

Power of mechanical snow removal tool – 6.5 horsepower, and its width is 50 cm, this is perfect for clearing paths on the site. The unit operates on a gasoline engine.

To make your own snow blower, you will need:

  • sheet iron;
  • gasoline engine, for example, from a walk-behind tractor;
  • metal tube for handle with a diameter of 1.5 cm;
  • plywood sheet 10 mm;
  • conveyor belt.

Assembly procedure for the unit:

  1. Make a screw shaft. Take a 2 cm thick pipe and saw along it to secure a metal snow shovel measuring 120x70 cm.
  2. Place bearings on the pipe and secure a conveyor belt 150 cm long.
  3. Make a frame from corners 5x5 cm and 2.5x2.5 cm. Attach the platform for the engine to it.
  4. Make a chute for discarding snow from stainless steel or water pipe with a diameter of 160 mm. Select the length of the gutter depending on the required distance for throwing snow masses - the longer the pipe, the further the snow will be thrown.
  5. Use a belt drive to transfer torque from the motor - if the auger stops during operation, the belt will simply slip without affecting the motor.
  6. Form a body from sheet iron. Side walls can be made of plywood for convenience.
  7. Secure the auger in the housing and install it on the frame. Connect the motor to the auger with a belt and enjoy easy cleaning.
  8. For better gliding around the area, place the unit on wooden or plastic skis.

If you are using an engine with an air cooling system, cover the air hole in it with a mesh or metal plate so that snow does not get inside during operation.

Snow shovel for cleaning the roof

In winter, it’s not just the paths that require snow removal suburban area, but also the roofs of buildings. It is also possible to construct a snow shovel for the roof with your own hands.

Roof scraper with tongue

Iron scraper with tongue

A roof snow shovel is a U-shaped scraper with a handle attached to it and a plastic “tongue” for dumping snow masses. The design allows you to clean the roof without lowering the shovel down.

To make the tool you will need:

  • galvanized iron sheet;
  • pole 4 meters long;
  • bolts;
  • flexible strip of plastic.

Manufacturing procedure:

  1. From a sheet of galvanized metal, bend a U-shaped profile 40 cm wide, 60 cm long. The height of the side walls is 30 cm.
  2. Cut a metal strip 60 cm long, 5 cm wide and bolt it to the side walls of the profile.
  3. Attach a wooden handle to the bolt strip.
  4. Attach a plastic “tongue” to the bottom of the U-shaped profile with nails. By default, the plastic for the “tongue” should be in the form of a roll, and when snow gets on it, it should unwind.

To ensure that snow rolls off the roof onto the plastic without your help, it is enough to lift the filled shovel during the cleaning process.

To make a scraper you will need the tops of the canisters

Rope and bottle snow blower

You can make an original bottle scraper for cleaning the roof yourself without spending a penny.

The principle of operation of the cleaner: a rope with attached scrapers is thrown over the roof, then people stand on both sides of the house and take turns pulling the rope. The scrapers grab the snow and throw it off the roof.

You will need:

  • polyethylene canisters (plastic will not work) - 6-8 pieces;
  • a long rope slightly thicker than a clothesline.

The procedure for making a “shovel”:

  1. Cut off the part with the neck from each canister, leaving +10 cm from the lid.
  2. Drill holes in the lids.
  3. Take the rope and cut a piece 15 m long. Bend it in half to determine the center.
  4. At a distance from the center, equal to length one roof slope, secure the first canister with two knots.
  5. Attach the next canister 0.5 m from it. The covers should “look” in one direction – towards the center of the rope.
  6. Having put the first four canisters on one end of the rope, move on to the second. Fasten the cut parts on it so that the covers are directed in the opposite direction.

When designing, change the dimensions specified in the instructions depending on the height of the building and the length of the slope. The device can be used alone if you attach a weight to one end of the rope that will pull it back.
