Which frescoes to choose for the kitchen. Accent wall in the interior: “cautious madness. Accent wall in the interior: what to associate with

A magnificent trend in the art of wall painting received a capacious name - fresco. Refined painting is created by applying an image to a specially prepared surface. The creation technology is labor-intensive and requires creative inspiration. A master must have patience and great willpower to become a professional fresco painter. However, you can learn to create exquisite pictures in the interior yourself. There are known technologies that you can learn on your own. We will discuss in detail how frescoes in the interior decorate houses.

Features of the frescoes

They play the same role as the paintings of artists familiar to the eye. Works of painting are used to be used for design in an aristocratic style. Then they were replaced by budget high-quality wallpapers. However, everything tends to return to the past. The ancient technology of decoration is back in fashion. The frescoes look appropriate even in the most modern interiors. Any room can be improved if you choose a harmonious plot. The main thing is that the concept matches the style of the room.

To create these modern elements decoration uses only natural ingredients. These are coloring mixtures and adhesive compositions based on substances natural origin, as well as linen canvases. Their quality is selected in such a way that moisture, temperature changes and ultraviolet rays do not affect the finished image. Decorative item should not burn out. Therefore, designers are not afraid to use frescoes even on facades country houses. Picturesque elements in the exterior create a unique artistic style the entire building. The unique mood and magical atmosphere attracts the attention of all lovers of architectural beauty.

Depending on the aesthetic preferences of the owners, the plots can relate to different eras and styles. This could be the High Renaissance from the time of the genius Da Vinci, Art Nouveau from the early twentieth century, or ultra-modern high-tech. It is important that the owner’s choice corresponds to the functional purpose of the place where the painting is planned. For example, lately became fashion trend decorate fashionable restaurants with elegant medieval frescoes.

Types of frescoes

Since there are many technologies for applying this pictorial element, masters began to classify the varieties as follows:

Plaster based

This variety can safely be considered the most popular. Consumers are attracted by availability and high performance finished image. The basis for its creation is a special plaster with elastic properties. Thanks to the strengthening of the base with a mounting mesh, this plaster does not crack. Italian technology involves the use of environmentally friendly paints and any harmless glue. The advantages of this type include the following:

  • High-quality handmade imitation;
  • Moisture resistance of materials;
  • Resistance to ultraviolet rays;
  • Texture in the style of ancient frescoes;
  • Affordable price.

Wallpaper murals

Italian development is also used here. Thanks to the application of plaster on a non-woven base, owners can easily decorate a large space. Since the joints will not be visible even in spacious mansions on the walls. In this case, a regular adhesive binder is used, which comes complete with the same non-woven wallpaper. This variety has several subspecies, differing in the way they cover and convey the plot. The use of specialized printers is allowed. Subsequently, the surface with the image is additionally coated with a special impregnation, which allows it to adequately imitate the antique effect. Microscopic cracks form a thin ligature, giving the fresco motifs of antiquity. However, some prefer to do without cracks.

On canvas

The labor-intensive option involves exclusively handmade for making an image. The sequence of steps remains the same:

  1. Preparing the base for plaster;
  2. Drawing;
  3. Artificial aging;
  4. Transferring the finished image to canvas.

Natural materials are complemented by ordinary assembly adhesive. Therefore, among the disadvantages of such frescoes there is some fragility. They cannot be washed with household detergents, as this could ruin the work of the craftsmen. Such masterpieces are created on the Apennine and Iberian Peninsulas. Expensive masterpieces belong to the elite segment. They are usually ordered by those who want to be aware of the presence in the house exclusive decor hand made.

On a rigid basis

Unlike previous options, an extremely rigid base for plaster is used here. This is necessary to create special chips on the edges of the fresco, which have special artistic value. This outline effectively emphasizes the authenticity of the work. The only drawback of such products is their heaviness. Therefore, it is difficult to find dimensional works using this technique. However, even small frescoes will be expensive.

Self-adhesive

Implies the use solid foundation for applying a special composition. Fine-grained sand of river origin is transferred onto the plane digitally. This makes it somewhat easier to create a fresco on the wall. Needs to be removed protective film to glue the image to the surface with your own hands. However, this option has significant drawback. A thin layer of plaster leaves defects and protrusions of the walls visible. Therefore, it is important to prepare the surface before applying the design. Another disadvantage of the self-adhesive variety is the lack of antique effect. They are more like modern photo wallpaper than on ancient works. Among the producers of such semi-finished products are Italy and Spain. They are budget options.

In interior styles

Thanks to the possibilities industrial production, arrangement of frescoes on the walls modern houses and even apartments have become affordable for most citizens. Any image can decorate the decor in the styles of classic, baroque, Provence and others. There are many famous stories that are always popular. Usually these are medieval paintings from the Renaissance. However, to create an exclusive design, it is recommended to focus on a specific room. Depending on its meaning and the location of the fresco, the artistic value of an element of antique decor can vary greatly. The greatest effect is achieved in a room with a large area.

Attention! Masters recommend selecting a plot and thematic motif in advance. This will allow you to select the correct application technology and prepare the surface for the product. Despite the fact that modern production allows you to equip a masterpiece at any stage.

Decoration of architectural forms

With the help of decorative frescoes you can decorate in an interesting way country houses. Some owners gravitate towards elaborate architectural forms in antique style. Decorating columns with an ancient image can bring that very element of exclusivity that is missing in standard projects. An interesting finishing option can also be considered the use of frescoes in specially equipped niches. The general mood is emphasized by single accessories from the same time as the subject in the image. Decorative vase coupled with a thematic picture will fascinate any guest.

In the living room

The most common option for arranging a fresco involves placing it in the living room. This is often expressed in classical subjects and reproductions of masterpieces of the iconic Renaissance era. The style of such a powerful work in its artistic content favorably emphasizes the status of the main room in the house. The front room becomes the calling card of the owners. Scenes with elements of Eastern life are also welcome. However, lately the industrial landscape and everything that can be connected with it have come into fashion. For example, subway tunnels act as a contrast to the fresco technique itself. The compromise option for everyone seems to be the use of seascapes and rural pastorals.

In the bedroom and nursery

For the bedroom, you need to carefully select the plot to maintain the soothing atmosphere of the room. Typically this involves angels in the clouds and waves at sunset. Seascapes coupled with exotic islands invariably delight the weaker half of humanity. A romantic mood creates in them a genuine feeling of heavenly bliss.

Attention! So as not to weigh it down small space Such a remarkable element of decor, many place the fresco above the head of the bed. However, if desired, it can be placed anywhere.

There are many interesting options kitchen decoration, for example, frescoes. We will tell you what they are, and also show a selection of photos of frescoes in the interior, in particular in the kitchen. We hope you can find a suitable option.

Features and Benefits

Thanks to a special technique of applying paints, you can create a flat or three-dimensional picture.

This way you will get a unique decoration for the kitchen, which, thanks to the properties of the paints, will last for many years.

Let's take a closer look advantages of using frescoes in the kitchen interior:

  • Extremely original style wall decoration: this is cooler than any wallpaper or;
  • The colors do not fade or fade for a long time;
  • Frescoes are not required special care and are easily cleaned from dust and dirt;
  • The variety of styles and images helps you choose the picture that suits your kitchen.

What are the types of frescoes??

  1. 1. On wet plaster. The master paints the wall by hand. The work is very painstaking and takes a lot of time - but the final result looks very beautiful. In fact, this is a real fresco.
  2. 2. On canvas - the canvas with the finished painting is attached to the plaster. You get a reliable imitation at a more affordable price.
  3. 3. On glass. A smooth surface helps hide imperfections in the rough finish. The design is applied to the glass, which is attached to the wall using special Affresco glue. It allows for reliable grip on long term and does not change its properties under the influence of moisture and heat.
  4. 4. Self-adhesive wallpaper, with imitation painting- the cheapest option.

Note: Stores sell them under the guise of frescoes. They can imitate painting quite well, but do not have its advantages.

Let's move on to specific examples. We have collected for you photos of the most beautiful murals for the kitchen, made in different styles.

In the interior

Modern wall paintings are not limited to classical subjects. A wide variety of paintings allows you to match them to any interior design.

We'll show you a few original options and we’ll tell you how best to place the fresco on the wall, as well as what to use when choosing a design.

A classic idea for a mural in the kitchen is a still life with kitchen motifs. Vegetables, fruits, wine, sweets... All this will look appropriate and not distract too much attention from the main interior.

They can be made small, then the fresco will seem like a neat painting. Thanks to the properties of the paints, it can be placed even above a sink or stove - places that are difficult to decorate due to constant humidity and temperature changes.

Want something brighter and catchier? Please note frescoes with kitchen motifs, which can be placed on the entire surface of a free wall.

Such a picture is an independent element of the interior that does not need framing. However, think about whether it will be combined with the rest of the room’s design - after all, the decision is quite bold.

For small kitchens figured frescoes are suitable. Make an insert into the main cover - a simple but elegant technique.

They look especially good in a light-colored kitchen interior: the preferred range of colors for these frescoes is not particularly bright, so it will get lost. At the same time, you shouldn’t be afraid that they look faded - the colors are saturated, it’s just that traditionally not too many of them are used.

Romantic landscape motifs fit perfectly into classic design kitchens, becoming a beautiful finishing touch that attracts attention.

Note: A couple of centuries ago, the main motifs of frescoes were church ones. Now you can order any design, even the most modern, made in this technique.

Choose abstraction, perhaps even with kitchen motifs. Such frescoes look very unusual and are in harmony with most popular design styles.

If you are the lucky owner of a large kitchen, try painting a mural in a classic landscape style along the entire length of the wall opposite the kitchen corner.

This way you will achieve several goals at once: decorate the room, make it even larger and be able to visually separate the dining and work areas.

The decoration style can also be elegant. Choose not simple landscapes, but quadriptychs. This will make the picture more stylish, without disturbing the harmony of the combination with the interior.

Important nuance: Elements of a quadriptych can be a logical continuation of each other or be united only by a common theme. It all depends on your taste.

Kitchen frescoes with Venetian motifs also look good. They fit well. They look interesting if you place them between the upper and lower zones kitchen set.

Gondolas and the flow of the river will emphasize the elongated surface of the furniture and make the interior more harmonious. Please note that such motifs love a large space - it is unlikely that you will be able to limit yourself to the format of a standard picture.

It is not necessary to decorate the walls with frescoes - you can apply them to the facades of the kitchen unit. Decorate one or two cabinets or all vertical surfaces - it all depends on your taste.

In the second case, it is not necessary to use the same images: it is enough to maintain a single style and general theme of the drawings. Then the kitchen will look beautiful and harmonious. And monotonous frescoes can seem boring and even tiresome.

Provencal frescoes are well suited to a similar type of interior. A large number of white motifs, light, airy colors; flowers and play of light.

Such paintings look good in spacious kitchens decorated in light colors.

If you have a small kitchen, but want something stylish and unusual, pay attention to stucco frescoes. They are made from plaster using a technology similar to conventional ones. However, certain movements of the brush and working with still raw material help to achieve volume and relief.

Such paintings look great even with small sizes, very beautiful and unusual. Of course, you shouldn’t expect high detail from them - however, they are ideal for a country-style kitchen.

Ethnic motives can also serve good decoration kitchens. How about an ancient Roman, Egyptian or Japanese theme?

Choose frescoes that will not only match the interior, but also appeal to you personally - such decoration cannot simply be removed and hidden if you get tired of it.

.
By the way, pay attention. The chandelier and curtains in this photo echo the color motifs of the fresco. This technique helps create the overall integrity of the interior and looks very stylish.

The luxury of the Baroque style is gaining popularity in recent years. Twisted elements, stucco molding, crystal and gilding... A classic fresco will also fit well into such an interior.

Bright Provence frescoes will look stylish only in the appropriate design - good example in the photo. The main color motifs of the fresco are complemented decorative elements and dishes.

This helps to create a single harmonious image of the kitchen and allows the fresco not to seem alien even if the main color scheme of the interior is restrained.

We hope our photo selection and recommendations will help you decide on the choice of beautiful frescoes for your kitchen. We made a special effort to collect them different types- from small still lifes to relief and volumetric quadriptychs, so that you understand how diverse this type of decor can be.

Choose depending on the style of the kitchen and your aesthetic preferences - and you will get a kitchen decoration that will not lose its beauty for many years!

Fresco for the kitchen - 4 application options and simplest technology arrangement consisting of 6 steps

Original frescoes in the kitchen interior can easily be called the latest in modern fashion. Such images are often considered the domain of temples and castles, but let’s figure out whether this is really so and what kind of frescoes there are, and finally I’ll show you how to make such beauty with your own hands in 6 simple steps.

Four options for arranging frescoes

Each of the options described below is good in its own way, but not all of them are suitable for DIY installation, although it all depends on your skills.

Option number 1. Timeless classics

From the school course we know that a classical fresco is a picturesque picture applied to wet plaster. This technology allows you to maintain the brightness of colors and resistance to external influences decades.

According to official sources, the art of painting frescoes appeared in 1500 BC. According to researchers, the oldest fresco is located on the island of Santorini, although Egyptian pyramids Similar paintings have also been found. Therefore, the exact date of creation of the first such painting is unknown to man.

Similar technology to the common man is inaccessible, moreover, not every artist is able to paint such a panel according to all the rules, because for this purpose special paints are used natural basis, plus you need to work very quickly until the plaster dries.

The price for arranging a real classical fresco is exorbitant and such work takes quite a lot of time, depending on the amount of work it can take from a couple of weeks to several months.

Option number 2. Painting on canvas

In part, this technology is reminiscent of painting, but before applying the image, such a canvas undergoes lengthy preparation, as a result of which a very thin layer appears on the canvas. plaster layer, the paints are already applied to this layer.

Such paintings are also considered original, but with the current development of technology they have already learned how to reproduce them, although even a copy costs quite a lot of money. Most often you can find artificially aged canvases. But this product is very “capricious”; it requires care and extreme conditions kitchen is not suitable.

Option number 3. Self-adhesive

This type of painting can be safely called consumer goods. This fresco can be applied to the wall with your own hands in half a day, and for this you only need a glue brush and a roller. This technology is very similar to applying transfers, which many of us glued to the refrigerator or school desk as children.

You shouldn’t expect any sky-high, impeccable quality from such panels. In a kitchen, this transfer will last a maximum of 3–4 years, plus even the new picture shows traces of its artificial origin.

Option number 4. Frescoes on wallpaper

This option is best suited for independent arrangement. The basis here is non-woven or fiberglass textured fabrics. Such wallpaper, of course, cannot be called cheap, but compared to natural painted frescoes, this is an excellent solution, and I will tell you how to do it correctly in the next chapter.

An affordable option for arranging a fresco in 6 steps

Non-woven or fiberglass wallpaper frescoes are perfect for an owner with average income and a constant lack of time. Before you start arranging the painting itself, you need to carefully prepare the base.

Despite the fact that fiberglass and non-woven fabric are considered quite strong and durable materials, making a fresco on an apron in work area I don’t recommend the kitchen, otherwise there are no more restrictions.

The wallpaper canvas can be glued not only to walls, it also fits well on such alternative surfaces as:

  • Drywall– please note that before gluing the drywall it needs to be puttied and sanded;
  • Laminated or regular MDF– here it is enough to apply a layer of acrylic primer;
  • Glass– in theory, glass only needs to be degreased, but in practice it is still advisable to cover it with acrylic primer;
  • Plastic– the preparation of plastic is approximately the same as for laminated MDF;
  • Tree– for gluing, the tree must be absolutely dry (humidity no more than 12%), plus it must be covered with soil 2 times;

We will analyze the classic version, that is, installing a fresco on a plastered wall. Usually, for wallpapering, just smooth cement plaster is enough, but in the case of a fresco there are nuances:

  1. Rovna cement plaster you need to coat with deep penetration acrylic primer;
  2. A layer of putty 1.5 - 2 mm thick is applied to a dry wall;
  3. After complete drying, the putty will need to be carefully sanded. For this, medium-grain sandpaper is used, but I prefer to work with a sanding mesh;
  4. At the last stage of preparation, you will need to brush off the dust and apply acrylic primer 2 times, both times applying the primer to a dry wall.

If the walls have already been prepared, for example, covered with wallpaper, then you just need to remove the old wallpaper and generously cover the wall with soil once.

Such paintings are sold in cardboard tubes. When the walls are completely ready you need:

  • Open the tube lid;
  • Remove the roll from the tube;
  • Carefully remove plastic film and roll out the roll on the floor;
  • There should be no drafts in the room;
  • During operation, the temperature should not be lower than +10ºС.

If the tubes have been exposed to frost, they should lie in a heated room for at least 12 hours before unpacking.

Illustrations Recommendations

Step 1.

Kitchen frescoes are rarely done on the entire wall, and if the kitchen is small, then this should not be done at all.
Therefore, at the first stage you need to mark the place where the wallpaper will be glued.

Step 2.

Apply a layer of acrylic primer to the prepared surface and wait at least half an hour until it is absorbed.

Accent wall– this is a rather complex decorative technique that is not appropriate in every interior. Why? When one wall is overloaded with color, the integrity of the room is disrupted; not the entire volume of the room is perceived, but the plane.

Today we decided to understand the basic rules for creating accent walls in the interior.

When it's hard to screw everything up: win-win options

In a small room of up to 10 m², such as a bedroom, an accent wall can be placed behind the head of the bed. Highlight her interesting wallpaper, wall panels.

If the room is large and the wall area is also large enough, then to focus attention you need to use other techniques and materials. The designer’s task is to create a picture, an interior composition that is easy to read at first glance.

Moreover, if it is intended to visually highlight some walls, then this must be provided for already. For example, plan wide doors along the axis of the intended composition so that the viewer sees the picture from a given angle.

Ways to highlight a wall

There are several ways to highlight an accent wall in the interior.

  • Using a different material. Enough the hard way due to compatibility features.
  • With the help of a large-scale object and a certain interior composition.
  • Through combinations of furniture and paintings. The result is a memorable picture, viewed from a certain vantage point.

Accent wall design options

Using the difference in materials, as well as furniture groups and decorative items, you can place accents and create decent interior compositions. Let's look at how you can highlight a wall correctly.

Wood panels and bookshelves

In a room decorated with wallpaper, one wall can be sheathed wood panels. The transition from calm materials to wood looks more appropriate if you place shelves with books on this wall. A library is a traditional and acceptable solution, even though it breaks up the integrity of the room. By the way, there can be two such walls.

Furniture groups against the background of the library

To support the library, you can build furniture compositions against its background. This technique helps create a more complete interior. Certain furniture groups are suitable for this:

  • Armchair composition - a high tea table and 2-3 armchairs.
  • A combination of two large armchairs and a low table.
  • Sofa composition.

About the sofas. If you want to install it opposite bookshelves, then choose a low model (no more than ¼ of the wall height). Or one or two very light sofas on high legs with a narrow seat and back.

By highlighting this wall with the help of furniture groups, the picture can be complemented with lamps located symmetrically in the corners.

Low cabinets, lamps, paintings

By focusing attention on the wall with books, you don’t need to fill it with shelves and cabinets from top to bottom. Eat good separation walls at ⅓ and ⅔.

For example, they select a large niche or opening on the wall and fill it ⅓ with low bookcases, massive wooden chests of drawers, sideboards, shelves. On top there are paintings and two lamps. In a classic interior you can hang a large picture. If the room is decorated in a modern style, the canvases are placed on the chest of drawers - there may be several of them, different in style. It is also good to highlight a niche with wooden panels.

Such an accent wall should not be blocked by tall or massive objects. Against its background, a desk with an armchair or a dining group looks great. If libraries are developed against the background dining area, there is a tea set on the chest of drawers.

Well-chosen materials

Combining different materials, you need to make sure that they fit each other.

If you decide to use wooden panels against the background of wallpaper, then it is better that they are separated by an opening, a niche, and form an alcove. In a painted room, part of the wall can be covered with wallpaper or covered with the same wood.

The wall in the new material should not remain bare - any active material requires that it be “diluted”. These can be paintings, engravings in massive wooden frames. Low furniture looks good against the wall - round and rectangular tables, armchairs, desk, bed.

Alcove

In the bedroom, you can separate part of the wall and create an alcove. It is distinguished using a niche or opening. This composition is perceived as a separate room. A bed is placed in the alcove - with the headboard against the accent wall or the side - it doesn’t matter. The composition can be complemented with small side tables or dressing tables.

Inner window

An accent wall can be highlighted with an internal window. This task is better handled by wood painted in dark color window or made of dark wood. Even with a small amount of furniture, the interior window itself is a good focal point.

In the interior of the hallway, if the entrance axis does not face the window, an accent wall is created opposite the door or highlighted with furniture. In a niche you can place a table with a sculpture or a classic composition of a table with a lamp and two chairs.

There are many ways to highlight a wall in an interior. The main thing here is a sense of proportion and an understanding of how this technique works.

Accent wall

Risk is, of course, a noble thing, but caution is never superfluous. As the aphorism goes, “folly must be done with caution.” This saying would be worth taking into account for everyone who is engaged in or intends to engage in interior design. Choosing a rich palette and dynamic ornament is always a risk. But there is an opportunity to significantly reduce it and play a safe game. “How to do this?” you ask. The answer is simple: know, feel and observe moderation.

Even a small dose of bright, energetic color or pattern can make a very bold statement. Such inclusions are called accents. We have already written about that. This time we will dwell in more detail on such an element as an accent wall.

What is an accent wall?

This is a special wall, different in design from the other walls in the room. An accent wall may differ in color, texture, pattern, and material. The accent can be the entire surface of the wall or only part of it in the form of a wide strip.

What is the point of creating an accent wall? Firstly, this makes it possible to introduce a share into the interior bright color, but in small, strictly limited quantities. In addition to color, you can introduce additional textures, shapes, and lines into the interior. Thanks to the accent wall, the surfaces of the room do not look uniform and flat. The interior turns out to be spectacular and extraordinary.

Secondly, the creation of accent surfaces allows you to manipulate attention. People entering the room will first notice the accent wall and what is next to it. This way you can attract interest to something worthy and divert attention from some unattractive object.

Accent wall in the interior: where and why?

Many people remember well the times when almost every home had a wall hanging. With its help, they created a kind of accent wall - the one that I wanted to especially highlight. Most often, carpet was used to highlight the walls behind the sofa in the living room and behind the bed in the bedroom. It is on these walls that attention is focused in our time. True, they do not use carpets for this, but a combined finish.

The wall behind the TV and is often used as an accent. A slightly less popular option is an accent wall near. In these cases, accentuation helps solve the problem of zoning in the room.

You can accentuate the part of the wall on which you plan to place an expensive painting or other luxurious decor. It is customary to decorate the wall near the fireplace in a special way. Here we are already talking about solving decorative problems.

Partitions, piers, and projections can also be accentuated. Highlighting these areas allows you to more clearly separate zones and rooms. This option also works for zoning.

Parts of the walls are distinguished in corridors and halls. The area is divided into fragments - this makes the hall not so monotonous and dull.

Accent walls are also decorated in bathrooms. Walls behind the toilet and washbasin, as well as near the bathtub, are often highlighted.

In addition to those discussed, other options are possible. Before deciding on an accent wall, you need to answer the following questions:

  • Why do you need to highlight this wall?
  • why her and not another?

It should be remembered that the accent wall draws the main attention. If you want guests to definitely notice your collection of still lifes, do not highlight the opposite or adjacent wall. It may happen that the area with still lifes will simply be ignored because a bright accent wall will overshadow it.

Accent wall in the interior: how to highlight it?

Highlighting

The most effective way to highlight a wall is to decorate it in a bright color. The richer and more contrasting the color of the main finish, the more spectacular the accent. To create such an accent wall, painting or wallpapering is usually used.

There are several design secrets that will help you make right choice colors for an accent wall. First of all, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of perception. “Hot” colors visually come closer to us. Therefore, if the room is narrow, you should not paint long walls in a “hot” color. “Hot” colors include red, orange, warm and many of their shades. If you paint a long wall in one of these shades narrow room, the room will visually narrow even more.

But one of the short walls can be made “hot”. Thanks to this, the room will visually decrease in length and appear a little more square.

Cool shades, on the contrary, are able to move away from us. Therefore for long wall in a long, narrow room it is better to choose one of the cool colors. These include blue, cyan, violet, cold green, and many of their shades.

If you prefer a calm, peaceful atmosphere, choose a color for the accent wall that is close to the dominant color in the room. Look at color wheel: close or, in other words, similar colors are colors located in the neighborhood.

For example: If the room is decorated in blue tones, a soft green accent wall will be a similar color. The atmosphere will be quite calm and restrained, however green wall will still stand out and attract attention.

If you want something more energetic and impressive, choose an antagonist color, that is, a color located on the circle opposite the shade that predominates in the interior. For example: if the room is decorated in beige and lilac tones, the accent wall can be made light green.

In a neutral (white, black and white, gray, beige, beige-brown, etc.) room, the accent wall can be absolutely any color - for example, your favorite one.

Highlighting with an ornament or pattern

To make one wall different from the others, you can use not only color, but also drawings, patterns, and ornaments. This will introduce new shapes and lines into the interior, which will allow you to influence the perception of the geometry of the room. In addition, the drawing of an accent wall can work on the idea, creating a particular mood.

For example, an accent wall could be striped. If the stripes are placed horizontally, the accent wall will visually expand, and the room will seem a little more spacious, but lower. In addition, a striped wall will create some dynamics and make the room more energetic.

Floral ornaments will soften the atmosphere. Even if the room contains rough furniture and a large amount of equipment, thanks to the floral accent wall the room will turn out balanced, cozy, pleasing to the eye and not at all rough. But a checkered accent wall in the interior, on the contrary, will add brutality and some stiffness to it.

Read more about the role and perception of drawings, patterns and ornaments in our articles:

Accentuation with drawings and ornaments is especially suitable for those who prefer monochrome interiors. You don't have to enter additional colors. Let the accent wall be made in the same color as the rest of the surfaces, but thanks to the ornament this wall will stand out from common space, will become dominant.

Highlighting with texture

You can rely not on color and design, but on the texture of the surface. Adding new textures to the interior makes it deep, heterogeneous, and interesting. An accent wall can be finished with stone, tiles, mosaics, wood panels, bamboo, etc.

Brick and stone will fit perfectly into both urban and rustic styles. Wood and bamboo will emphasize the rural or natural component. Mosaics will decorate an interior in which the emphasis is on decorativeness and luxury (for example, in the Arabic style).

Highlighting the plot

There is an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone: highlight a wall, ridding the interior of flat impersonality, and introduce a thematic component into the room. To solve these problems, photo wallpapers are usually used.

If an accent wall is created using photo wallpaper, the decor in the room should be kept to a minimum. And the palette should be quite meager. Otherwise, it will be difficult to avoid some redundancy that tires the eye.

How to choose a subject for an accent wall? If you don't want to contribute additional topic, you can focus on a neutral subject - for example, on an image of plants. To emphasize the modern urban essence of the interior, use photo wallpaper with a fragment of a city street or building. If you want to emphasize the “pastoral” nature of the interior, choose photo wallpapers with a natural or rural theme.

In addition to photo wallpaper, there are other options for highlighting the subject. For example, an accent wall can be papered... . This will support the theme of distant travels present in the interior.

More expensive and incomparable beautiful way creating a thematic accent wall - story painting, fresco.

Accent wall in the interior: what to tie it with?

Is it worth doing something to support the color and pattern of the accent wall? This is optional. An accent wall can stand alone, not depending on anything and not being combined with anything. However, this solution is successful mainly only for light, neutral and rather featureless interiors. If there are several in the room different colors, it is advisable to support the accent wall with something. For example, other accents in the same color: pillows, carpet, lampshade, or even pieces of furniture.
