How to independently replace water filters of different designs. How often do you need to change cartridges in water filters and how does this happen? How to change the cartridge in a water filter

Even in apartment buildings It is advisable to purify tap water. To do this, use either compact jug devices or full-flow flow systems. For high-quality, complete cleaning, it is necessary to timely replace the cartridge in the water filter.

How often do you need to change cassettes?

The frequency of filter replacement depends on the intensity of water use

Replacement of cleaning cartridges in filter systems is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations for each type of installation. They are regulated by the volume of water consumed over a period of time. To understand how often you need to change water purification filters, you should familiarize yourself with the general recommendations:

  • Classic cartridges for a jug are changed once a month (for a family of 3-4 people) and once every two months (for 2 people in a house).
  • When using a flow-through reverse osmosis system, you need to change the filter elements at least once every six months. It is important to take into account that even with low-intensity operation of the water supply system, passive contamination of sorption beds occurs. This is also facilitated by room temperature. If the room is always very warm, organic matter may settle in the cartridges. With regular replacement of sorption pads, the membrane of the filter system works for a long time and without failures.
  • A multi-stage purification system has several separate flasks. Each of them performs its own filtering function. The most important is the polypropylene cartridge for rough mechanical cleaning liquids from suspensions. It is advisable to change it every 2-3 months. For cassettes of the 2nd and 3rd stages of filtration (deferrizers, softeners), a change is recommended every 3-5 months.
  • Membrane elements can be changed every 1-2 years.
  • It is advisable to install new mineralizers that saturate the water every 6-8 months.

Signs that the cartridge needs to be replaced

When the filters become dirty, the water pressure decreases

There are a few important signs, by which an ordinary user can understand that it is time to update the filter elements of the system.

  • The water pressure in the tap has decreased significantly. This applies to both flow systems and nozzles. A decrease in the volume of supplied liquid indicates dense clogging of the cleaning substances/elements.
  • Unpleasant or unusual taste of water. If the apartment owner has been using purified liquid for a long time, he knows its taste characteristics well and will notice the slightest changes. If the water again takes on the colors of the main water supply, it is time to change the cleaning elements of the installation.
  • Changed color of the resource supplied to the tap. This is especially true for borehole or well water, which is deferrized or undergoes other mechanical filtration. If the liquid has again acquired a characteristic shade of yellowness or turbidity, it is time to change the cartridge.
  • The appearance of a whitish film on the surface of hot drinks or the formation of scale in dishes. These signs indicate increased mineralization of the resource. It's time to take care of upgrading your filtration system.

The importance of timely change of cleaning elements is due to the following:

  • How more water passes through one cassette, the worse it performs its functions. Particles of filtered impurities clog the pores of the sorption bed and membrane. Over time, the water will either push them into common system, or simply will not be able to pass through the clogged barrier. The user will receive the most dirty liquid or not see it at all.
  • Continuous use of one cleaning element without replacement can eventually lead to expensive system failure (membrane rupture). We will have to buy and install a new complex.

To replace cassettes in reverse osmosis installations, it is better to invite specialists who installed the filters.

The process of installing a new cartridge yourself

You can easily replace the cassette in a pitcher filter with your own hands. They operate in the following sequence:

  • The new package is opened. Try not to shake the new cartridge.
  • Unscrew the old cassette counterclockwise.
  • The new element is washed running water while holding it vertically.
  • Screw the cartridge in clockwise until it stops.
  • The receiving compartment of the jug is filled tap water and allow this volume to pass through the cassette completely. The purified liquid is poured into the sink. It is necessary to carry out 3-4 such preliminary cleanings so that dust and remaining air are washed out of the carbon layers of the filter.

In a flow-through system installed on the main line of the apartment under the sink, the cleaning element is replaced as follows:

  • The liquid supply to the unit should be limited. You can turn off the water completely to the apartment.
  • You need to open the water supply tap in the kitchen to reduce the pressure in the system. This will make the filter easier to remove.
  • The next step is unscrewing the flask. This is done with a special key, which should initially be included with the installation.
  • Carefully remove the old filter from the flask. In this case, it is important to place a container under it so that the remaining water can drain there.
  • The empty flask is washed with running or purified water.
  • It is important to check the integrity of all rubberized elements. It is also recommended to wash them and install them in the reverse order.
  • A new cassette is inserted into a clean flask and filled with prepared water. This is done to ensure that oxygen bubbles in the liquid and cartridge cannot damage the membrane.
  • All that remains is to screw the flask into place with a wrench until it stops.

At this stage, you can open the water supply to the taps and monitor the cleaning process. It is important that there are no leaks between the flask and the filter head.

What to do with a used filter

Used replacement cartridges are recycled

It is advisable not to simply throw spent cartridges enclosed in polymer casings into the trash. At the very least it is polluting. environment slowly decomposing plastic. The situation is worsened by all the contaminants in the flask. It is advisable to hand over cartridges to special collection points. For example, stores specializing in the sale of treatment plants accept for disposal:

  • cartridges for Aquaphor or Barrier jugs;
  • used filters for washing OSMO-Crystal, Aquaphor, etc.

These elements use recyclable plastic labeled PP Moplen HP500N. At special factories, any other household items will be made from it. By recycling such cassettes, the consumer saves the planet from global pollution.

To send used elements into the hands of professionals, you need to do the following:

  • Make sure that the polymer or packaging for the cartridge has the appropriate PP Moplen HP500N marking.
  • Find the Aquaphor brand store closest to your home and drop off the filter there.

For responsible users, the store offers a 10-15% discount on the existing price for the purchase of the next new module.

Clean drinking water flowing from the system taps central water supply, it's more likely pipe dream most residents of apartment buildings. For private developers, things are sometimes no better, so the need to install small filter systems or large installations with the same purpose is an urgent need and the only Possible Solution Problems. In the article we'll talk about how to change water filters.

What types of water filters are there?

  • If you only need to purify water from impurities for cooking, and your family is small, then it is quite possible that you can get by with simple filter - jug, which can clean half a liter of tap water in a short period of time. It is very easy to use, inexpensive, and filter cartridges for it are sold everywhere and are available to all categories of the population. Their service life is designed for 150 - 400 liters, depending on the manufacturer. Cartridges are available for water with varying degrees of quality, and even a child can replace them. But the limited volume of the jug - a maximum of 2.5 liters - will not allow you to quickly fill clean water a kettle or a large saucepan, and in the end you will have to wash or wash everything in the same hard or “iron-enriched” water.

  • Attachment on the crane also will not be able to cope with large volumes. Her throughput limited to 200 or 500 ml per minute. Some people do not like the appearance of the structure that the filter attachment and faucet form. Such a solution will require a separate container for collecting filtered water, and it is very difficult to regulate the flow pressure. If the design of the water filter does not provide a special switch that allows the flow to bypass it, then each time you will have to remove the nozzle itself in order, for example, to wash dishes without once again loading the cleaning cartridge.

Water filter diagrams

  • Flow type cleaners compared to previous options they look more convincing. They are also called tabletop, or water filters for sinks. They are small, shaped like a cylinder with a tap. By connecting to a tap located on the sink (using a water hose), such filters can provide the housewife with two liters of clean water in a minute. drinking water. And the total resource of such a device is up to 4 thousand liters. How often to change the water filter depends on the number of people; in a family of 3-4 people, replacement is done once every 1.5-2 years. But in the kitchen or bathroom this option will take up some space, so it is not often chosen for small spaces. But some manufacturers produce modifications that can be wall-mounted. One of the inconveniences that await a potential buyer of a wall-mounted filter is that the included bushings may not be suitable for the faucet installed in the house. You will have to purchase them separately.

Video on how to change a water filter

  • Built-in water filter can be considered the most acceptable for a family. They are cylindrical containers that are equipped with filtering elements and a container in which the purified liquid accumulates. They are mounted under the sink, and the water supply tap is led outside. This filter is more expensive than all the above options, but its resource is much longer, and the level of cleaning is incomparably higher. It is ready for use immediately after installation, and its cost will pay off during the time it takes the whole family to drink clean water.
  • Central filter placed immediately after the water consumption meter in the place where water enters the apartment. Most often these are two flasks, inside of which there are replaceable filter elements of varying degrees of purification.

Choosing a filter for an apartment: for each type of problem there is a solution

When you come to the store, it’s not enough to tell the seller that there is bad water in the house. It can be characterized by an excess content of iron, salts, and various impurities. As a rule, the consumer is offered a combined solution: install 2-3 filters in a row with varying degrees of purification and operating on different principles.

  • One of them ( mechanical filtration) retains those elements that are not soluble in water (for example, rust or sand). Design features such a filter affects the degree of purification. It can be ultra-fine, fine or coarse. In addition, there are several more filtration principles.

  • The principle of sorption, that is, absorption. Its device is simple and has been known for a long time: activated carbon acts as a sorbent. It very effectively passes water through itself, while retaining all impurities. As a disadvantage, it is worth noting that due to such careful work, many filtered particles accumulate inside. They, in turn, become the ideal “home” for large number bacteria, which under such ideal conditions develop at tremendous speed. As a solution, some manufacturers include silver ions in the sorbent. They are known for their disinfecting properties, but do not exclude the need to change the filter at the frequency recommended by the manufacturer. Attempts to “squeeze” the maximum out of the filter are fraught with the fact that the quality of the water at the outlet will, at best, be similar to that at the inlet. And if we consider the worst-case scenario, then consuming such a liquid “enriched” with bacteria is simply dangerous to health. Such a filtration system, subject to timely replacement, will eliminate many unnecessary impurities, foreign odors, harmful chemical elements, including chlorine.
  • If the water flowing from the tap exceeds all standards for metal content and is hard, then it makes sense to install filter with ion exchange function. Unneeded salts or ions heavy metals will linger in it, and at the output the consumer will receive soft and usable water.

  • For preliminary purification of iron they are used oxidation filters. They retain only this unwanted element, oxidizing it. After this procedure, iron becomes insoluble in water and remains as sediment on the filter. And the liquid freed from its presence goes to the next stage of filtration in a device with a finer cleaning system. Such a preliminary stage of processing is relevant if the iron content, as they say, is off the charts.
  • Thin film membrane, which is the basis of the same (membrane) filter osmosis gives the consumer the opportunity to enjoy high-quality, highly purified water. The material is created in such a way that only H2O molecules pass through it. Water must pass through it under a pressure of 3 or 4 atmospheres to obtain a 100% pure product. This system also has a drawback: along with unnecessary impurities, the membrane does not allow microelements useful for the human body to pass through. Therefore, the second destination for purified water is a filter with an enrichment system (mineralizer). Some manufacturers combine both of these systems into one. On a positive note is that the particles retained by the filter do not remain inside it, but are removed through drainage system. This increases the service life of the cleaning system elements, but leads to additional water consumption costs.

Since problems with water quality are often complex in nature, they are solved accordingly - by installing a number of filters with different operating mechanisms. Most often, mechanical or oxidative purifiers begin the chain, and sorption or membrane devices close the filtration cycle.

General rules for installing filters

  • The first thing you need to do is determine the location where the filter will be mounted. The central one, as already mentioned, should be in close proximity to the water entry point. Fine filters and membrane purifiers are placed where purified water will be directly collected, and a tap is installed to discharge it. These are sinks in the bathroom or kitchen.

Important! Flasks with replaceable filter elements require a certain free space around them so that there is subsequently room for “maneuvers” when replacing cartridges. The most comfortable setting would be 50 cm in height and 15 cm in depth and width. In general, having free space around any filter system is a necessity. For fastening to the wall, the flasks have special hooks provided by the design.

  • It is also necessary to decide on the installation location based on considerations of minimizing the distance over which the water supply pipe will need to be extended or moved.
  • Now you should turn off the water supply to the apartment.
  • If you need to install a central filter, then immediately from the meter you need to lead a pipe of the required length to connect the device, taking into account the leads that will come from it. At the end of the pipe there should be a coupling with internal thread¾ inch or adapter. The filter is supplied with a short pipe and has a movable, non-removable nut. This element is connected to the outlet of the water supply pipe. Now you should outline where the flasks will be fixed. IN drilled holes Dowels are inserted and screws are tightened, fixing the filter mounts. Now all that remains is to shorten the existing water supply pipe to the distance that the design of the purifier and pipes will take (the second one is also included in the kit), install the resulting system in this place, and turn on the water supply.
  • If you need to install a membrane filter or a fine cleaning system, you need to free up enough space under the sink for it. The entire system is attached to the wall furniture set or directly to the wall using screws. After the housing is secured, you need to connect the mixer hose and the faucet with the inlet hose from the filter through a tee. The outlet hose from the cleaning system should be connected to a separate gander for clean water installed on the sink.

Replacing filter elements

Replacing replacement filters for water purification may seem long and difficult only the first time. To do this, you need to carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions, although the general procedure is the same.

  • Before unscrewing the water filter, you need to make sure that the kit includes a special key to unscrew the flask. Its availability should be checked immediately upon purchase.
  • Replacing the cassette in a membrane filter or fine filtration purifier:
  • The water supply should be turned off. The ball valve on the wiring tee is responsible for this. Then you need to stop the flow of fluid from storage tank(for this it has a corresponding mechanism).
  • Opening the tap will relieve any residual pressure present in the system.
  • Since further actions cannot be called “clean” work, you will need to lay a rag or place a basin under the flasks.

  • Using a key, unscrew the flask and remove the used cartridges.
  • The flask itself must be rinsed thoroughly under running water and a new filter element must be placed in it.

Important! Carbon cartridges have a rubber gasket. Therefore, it is important to replace the water filter carefully so as not to dislodge it. You should pay no less attention to the order in which the filters are placed. IN membrane systems The first is a cartridge with a membrane cell size of 5, and the last is 1 micron.

  • On the outer surface of the bulb there is a rubber seal located in front of the thread. To prevent it from losing its elasticity, it is treated with silicone lubricant (in its absence - Vaseline) every time the cartridges are replaced.
  • By screwing the flask tightly into place, you can resume the water supply to the system. To do this, the sequence of actions with the tap on the tee and the locking mechanism on the drive is repeated.

The central filter installed at the water inlet to the system also needs to replace the filter cassettes. The procedure will differ in a couple of nuances. The water is shut off throughout the riser, and to wash the flasks you will have to fill a separate container with water. Special keys for dismantling must be included in the kit.

Clean water for every home

It is believed that the water supplied to private cottages from wells or boreholes is much cleaner and safer than that used by residents of apartment buildings. This is not always true, otherwise expensive complex filter systems would not be in such demand. In addition, depending on the season, water quality can vary significantly.

An integrated approach to water purification is most justified, especially if it is not possible to monitor the quality of the liquid flowing from the tap. But the functions assigned to individual parts of the whole cleaning system, can be divided into the following groups.

  • Mechanical cleaning works as in the above-described filters. It is necessary for any organization of water intake and does not allow contamination of large fractions: organic matter, soil particles. Its task is to prevent clogging of the entire water supply system and thinner and more expensive filters. It is included in the kit as a primary barrier submersible pump, providing water intake from the well. But this does not exempt you from installing additional mechanical filters.
  • Aeration allows you to saturate the water with oxygen necessary for conducting oxidative chemical processes. This “mini-lab” allows the ferrous iron to become insoluble and settle on its way to the tap and then be screened out. In addition to iron, filters with a similar operating scheme will retain ions of lead, arsenic, tin and other undesirable components.
  • Water from wells is often quite hard. Excess salts create this problem. Magnetic processing leads to crystallization of these elements.
  • Reagents come to the rescue when no other cleaning method is able to cope with harmful substances dissolved in the liquid stream.
  • An alternative to purification systems that do not allow iron and other insoluble components into drinking water are reagent-free filters. They contain backfills of natural or synthetic origin.
  • Membrane filters They are also used in private homes. The result of their use is clean water for drinking and cooking.

To select and install complex step-by-step water purification from wells or wells, it is better to contact specialists (at least for advice).

Filters for water purification in a private home

The quantity and modification of the filter system for a cottage is usually selected on an individual basis. As mandatory elements There are pre-filters (that is, coarse), fine and additional filters.

  • A special system for private buildings takes up much more space than stationary flasks in apartments, is more energy-intensive and in some cases requires coordination with cleaning specialists. Compliance with the last condition will help to collect technologically correct sequence filters with output to general device responsible for their control and regulation. The entire system is assembled near the point of water entry into the home.

  • Such a chain sometimes includes special equipment responsible for maintaining optimal water pressure. Expensive equipment, although not immediately, pays for itself. And in addition to your own health, this is an investment in a long and safe work devices whose daily work is related to water consumption.

Each type of filter has its own cleaning resource. When it is exhausted, you have to change the filling of the device or install a new, more advanced model.

The reasons for replacing the purifier may be different. The presence of even one of them is a reason to buy a fresh cartridge or a new device.

Replacement must be made if:

  • technically fell into disrepair;
  • cannot cope with the volume of water consumed;
  • does not give the desired concentrations of substances in water;
  • has exhausted its potential as a purifier.

External signs

You can determine that a working filter needs updating based on several signs. They are common to flow-through, main-line, storage (jug-type) filters and attachments.

A signal for replacement can be:

Tracking these signs is sometimes problematic. The used filter continues to pass water for some time, but without proper cleaning.

Reference! To exclude this option, many manufacturers install special light indicators on devices. The sensor lights up when the purifier resource is exhausted.

According to the regulations

Frequency of filter element replacement depends primarily on the type of cleaner.

Attention! In some cases, due to poor water quality, the filter filling becomes unusable earlier. With small volumes of consumption and a relatively low degree of fluid contamination, the main filter operates for up to 12-18 months.

Step-by-step instructions for replacing the cleaning system

Replacing the cleaning module depends on the filter type. Each model is accompanied by documentation that reflects Technical information for operating the device. It also contains instructions for replacing the cartridge.

Updating the cartridge in the jug

The process of changing the filter element in jugs consists of several steps:

  1. Remove the old cartridge from the jug.
  2. Rinse the container thoroughly, including the funnel.
  3. Pour water into the jug to 1/2 volume.
  4. Immerse the new cartridge in water for 10 minutes.
  5. Take out the cartridge and place it tightly in the funnel.
  6. The first two volumes of water are drained.

On a note! Sometimes the new filter is slow to let water through. To fix this, you need to remove the cartridge, shake it and put it back in place.

The entire process of replacing a cartridge is clearly demonstrated in the video using an example:

Replacing the cartridge in the flow filter

Since the flow device is connected to the water supply, the first thing to do is turn off the water supply to the location where the filter is installed. Then open the tap to drain the remaining water and reduce the pressure in the water supply system.

It is also necessary to prepare the container in advance(for example, a bucket) for old cartridges. Water will leak out of them, so the container should be nearby.

To remove the flask from the mounting body, you need to press the button and turn the flask counterclockwise. The cartridges are removed from the modules and placed in a prepared container. Flasks and rubber seals washed without using chemicals detergents.

New cartridges are installed in place of the old elements. A little water is poured into the flasks. This measure will protect the membranes from the damaging effects of air bubbles. Tighten the flasks, open the water and check the system for leaks.

The cartridges have the same appearance, but different contents. When replacing them, they must not be mixed up.

Reference! If cartridges are purchased immediately in flasks, installation is simplified: just replace old copies with new ones.

The following video shows step by step the entire replacement process using the Aquaphor filter as an example:

Changing a module in a reverse osmosis system

Before updating filters with multi-stage cleaning, you also need to first turn off the water supply, release the remaining pressure in the pipe and prepare a container for the old elements.

  1. Using a special ring wrench, unscrew the flask into which tap water flows.
  2. Check the quality of the o-ring. If necessary, replace it with a new one or lubricate it.
  3. Remove the old cartridge, rinse the container and install a new filter.
  4. The flask is screwed into place, having previously placed the o-ring.
  5. Change the second carbon filter in the same way.
  6. Remove the tube from the autoregulator and open the water supply.
  7. Drain 5-7 liters of water into the container through a tube.
  8. Return the pipe to its place and turn off the water.
  9. Change the mechanical cartridge in the third flask.
  10. Open the water and check the tightness of the connections.

The membrane component is replaced separately when its resource limit runs out. To remove the flask, it is necessary to remove the incoming and outgoing tubes. To do this, pull out the latch and press on the ring. Remove the plugs from the new cartridge. Having unscrewed the doubles and tees from the old element, put them on the new one.

Connect the tubes to the connectors (all the way) and, lifting the ring up, insert the latch. A new filter needs to be pre-washed for at least 10-15 minutes.

A visual step-by-step instructions for changing cartridges are presented in the video:

Replacing the main cleaner

Trunk devices are installed by inserting into a cold or hot water supply pipe. Despite this, in case of emergency or planned need, they must also be replaced.

They are updated according to the following scheme:

The video shows how to change the main filter installed in the bathroom:

Features of updating systems from different manufacturers

Home water purification systems are easy to maintain. The principle of operation of filters of the same type, but from different manufacturers V general outline always the same.

Filters from such manufacturers and other brands may differ from each other:

  • design,
  • size,
  • sorbent filling technology,
  • presence of indicators.

Changing insert cartridges occurs according to the general scenario.

Attention! Some companies (for example, Geyser) produce cartridges according to the standard. This means that they are interchangeable with other brands of cleaning elements.

But not all manufacturers adhere to the standards. For example, Aquaphor produces custom-designed replacement blocks and it is impossible to replace them with an analogue of another brand.

Call a specialist to your home

To update the dimensions treatment system in a cottage or country house there is always the opportunity to seek the help of a specialist.

The full range of services includes:

  • checking the hydraulic and electrical components of the system;
  • adjustment of devices;
  • washing mechanical filters;
  • checking incoming and outgoing water.

Attention! If it is not possible to contact the company that installed the cleaning unit, then you can find specialists through advertisements in the services section or in similar organizations that offer filtering equipment.

In different regions different companies the price for such services differs. The cost is affected by the level and type of filter system. The price range is from 500 to 20,000 rubles.

Conclusion

After installing the filter device, it is important to monitor its condition. An expired cartridge must be replaced with a new one.

Most cleaners designed for home use, have a simple structure. Replacing their filter elements is not particularly difficult. The only differences can be small features, characteristic of each type of filter.

Most of us use some kind of water filter. These systems differ in structure, appearance, fluid processing technologies. However, they have a lot in common, that is, replacing the cartridge in a water filter turns out to be a universal and necessary procedure.

Water filters without replacing cartridges: myth or reality

Today you can find a variety of offers on the water treatment filter market. It is oversaturated with systems for obtaining drinking water: from the most affordable filter jugs and faucet attachments to expensive reverse osmosis systems that treat water to the level of distilled water.

But, as noted above, a common feature for most is that they all need to be replaced periodically. Such elements may differ in price, level of cleaning, operating time or resource, after which the cartridge must be replaced in order to maintain decent quality of drinking water.

If we talk about devices without cartridges, they free water from contaminants by pressing it through a winding of the finest wire. Here, the distance between the turns is approximately 1 micron, due to which any contaminants, including small ones, settle in the flask, and water can then move through the pipes.

The key feature of such a system is that they use a self-washing method for the storage flask. In other words, at certain intervals, the electronic valve turns on the flushing, and all accumulated contaminants that do not pass through the filter go through the water discharge valve directly into the sewer under operating pressure in the pipe. After such a procedure, the system completely cleans itself in less than half a minute, without requiring replacement of the cartridge in the water filter.

Manufacturers claim that the service life of such devices exceeds 15 years. There are several most famous brands, offering similar systems without replaceable cartridges: “Source of Life”, “Fibos”, “Soyuzintellect”.

This type is mounted directly on a hot water supply or cold water in front of the counters. For this purpose, a tap is made from the pipe, and a tap is installed in front of the device, allowing, if necessary, to shut off the water supply. The thread is wrapped with a sealant and the filter is installed using an adjustable wrench. It is noteworthy that the entire work usually takes a maximum of 20 minutes.

But we note that, despite the presented advantages, reviews real users about these systems is more than ambiguous: some talk about poor-quality liquid processing, others testify to the opposite - they are satisfied with the effect and cost savings on replacing cartridges in the water filter.

When is it necessary to replace the cartridge in a water filter?

Replaceable cartridges are installed in all types of water filters - from jug to flow-through. The period between their replacement varies depending on a number of reasons, although, first of all, it is related to the quality of the water entering the house through the pipes.

Replacing cartridges in a water filter is required due to the following processes:

    filter components filled with contaminant particles slow down liquid processing;

    the quality of purified water decreases;

    accumulated dirt is often unsafe;

    there is a chance of damaging the membrane in reverse osmosis systems.

Wall-mounted, jug systems are used to improve the quality of water supplied to homes through the water supply system, that is, it has undergone primary treatment. For this reason, it is not possible to visually determine that it is time to replace the cartridge in the water filter. To facilitate use, manufacturers equip their devices with a device for manually setting the date independently.

Typically, replacement is required after 30–60 days, it all depends on the volume of the device, as well as the activity of use. Let us add that scale in the kettle and an unpleasant taste of water are also indications for replacing the cartridge in the water filter.

Let's say the flow system is located in a country house - water enters it directly from a well or well, then replacement will be required in two to three months. In addition, the transparent flask will make it possible to monitor the level of contamination. And in reverse osmosis systems, a new membrane must be installed after two to three years.

If we talk about multi-stage filters, then most often replacements are made for primary cleaning cartridges (every two months), while second and third stage cartridges will have to be purchased after six months.

Service and replacement of the cartridge in the water filter from the installer company or independently

All systems used for water treatment will one day face the need to replace cartridges. Most often, the installation company that sold the device supervises its customers and after six months to a year calls, offering a replacement. This service is not free, but, in general, the price is not high, so such pleasure is quite affordable.

The company that installed the filter will likely offer service maintenance, which consists of:

    checking the condition of the input and output fluid;

    control of components, hydraulic, electrical circuits of the system;

    setting up devices, cleaning, washing mechanical filters and their components;

    installation of new cartridges, membranes, filter repairs.

The entire list of works varies depending on the type of equipment and the capabilities of the organization conducting the work. But when you have a regular flow filter, you can do it yourself, without turning to specialists, since replacing cartridges in a water filter is not difficult.

While the powerful devices needed for country houses, in production, periodic inspection, adjustment, repair, and renewal of some parts and filter elements are required.

Let’s imagine that you are left alone with a problem or want to do everything yourself, in this case you should:

    have a replacement key (save it after the initial installation of the system);

    take photographs of the cartridge labels, and the store will help you choose the necessary models from them (but it is wiser to buy cartridges on the Internet by consulting the website, where you will find many options for various spare parts for filters).

Instructions for replacing the cartridge yourself

First of all, you need to understand what components a cartridge filter includes. As the name suggests, main element This type of filter is a cartridge. What does it include?

Usually he has cylindrical shape and is made of a filter element. The latter can be activated carbon, polypropylene, polyethylene, etc. - it all depends on the tasks ( mechanical restoration, elimination of chlorine, organic substances).

Most often, this cylinder has a cavity located in the center, which is intended for the liquid that has already been processed. The ends of the cartridge - this does not apply to mechanical cleaning systems - are covered with rubber sealing rings. The latter, adjacent to the protruding parts of the body, do not allow the source water to pass through to clean water. The flask (lower part of the filter) is threaded to the upper part of the system.

If you want to replace a replacement cartridge in a water filter, you are required to: actions:

1. Shut off the water supply. If there is no tap that allows this to be done, it is necessary to stop the water supply not only to the system, but to the entire house.

2 . The key that came with the filter unscrew the flask.

The internal pressure in the filter may prevent it from unwinding. To reset it, use the pressure release button located on the filter head. If it is not there, you can lower the pressure by opening a tap with clean water located after the filter. Unscrew the flask carefully so as not to splash out the remaining water inside.

When replacing a cartridge in a water filter, do not forget to check at the ends of the cartridge (this does not apply to mechanical cleaning filters). If they are elastic and soft, you can remove them, wash them and continue to use them. Of course, new rubber bands are included with newly purchased cartridges, but often they turn out to be too hard and tight.

4. Pour out the remaining water in the flask and wash the vessel. If you have to turn off the water in your house to replace the cartridge, stock up on water for this purpose.

You may find mucus and rust in the flask. We do not recommend washing them with detergents, as they will then harm subsequent filtration stages or end up in the cup along with the water. Wipe the exposed parts of the “head” well.

5. Place a fresh cartridge into the prepared flask.

If the new replacement cartridge has very hard, non-elastic rubber bands, it is better to replace them with softer ones if possible. If it is not there, you will waste a lot of energy closing the filter. But don't break the key, don't rush.

6. Screw the flask all the way with a key.

When it comes to a reverse osmosis system (or ultrafiltration), fill the cleaned flask with a replaced filter with clean liquid prepared in advance. Otherwise, air bubbles in the water can damage the membrane. When replacing the cartridge in a conventional (non-membrane) water filter, everything is easier: the air will come out into the tap.

7. When the replacement is complete, Make sure the connections are tight and the quality of the fluid is correct.

Slowly open the water supply valve to the filter to see if water is leaking out between the filter head and the flask.

If the filter still leaks, you need to turn off the water again and try to tighten it even better. If it still leaks, unscrew the bulb again and check the condition of the thin rubber O-ring in the hollow of the bulb. It is thanks to this that liquid does not leak out of the filter. Replace the deformed ring with a new one and re-tighten the flask.

When you have replaced the cartridge in the water filter, you need to drain all the treated water for the next 10 minutes. This way you can get rid of small dust particles that new cartridges are rich in, especially carbon ones.

Replacing a cartridge in a water filter that was “forgotten about”

But what to do if you completely accidentally forgot about the existence of filters in your apartment, about the fact that it is necessary to replace the cartridge in water filters? A year has passed since the installation, maybe more, and now you remember! Most likely, many people have encountered a similar situation.

Of course, this state of affairs cannot be called good, because replacement of elements is required every six months to a year. It turns out that you were drinking all the lost time bad water, practically worse than what flows from the tap. But, having discovered this problem, you should not panic; now you only need to promptly replace the cartridges. If you remove old cartridges after a longer period than expected, you will see a terrible brown coating inside the flask. How to get rid of it? It’s a shame to have to buy a whole filter because of this!

The following popular method will allow you to clean the flasks and lids:

    Need to take citric acid(two sachets per cylinder plus one sachet for caps - seven packs in total).

    Boil a kettle of water.

    Let the water cool slightly (so that it is hot, not boiling water).

    Pour water to the top into three flasks where there is plaque.

    Dissolve the acid in the flasks and lids.

    Leave for half an hour.

    Clean the flask and lid using a special brush.

Unfortunately, the factory whiteness of the filter cannot be achieved this way, but this procedure will provide the opportunity for a new, clean water After replacing the cartridges, they will be delivered to your home again.

Replacing the cartridge in main water filters

21.04.2016

Regular replacement of filters and filter elements is important for stable operation of the vehicle and increasing its service life. The most common signs that any filter needs to be replaced are:

  1. Reduced vehicle power.
  2. Increased fuel consumption.
  3. Sudden engine stop.

In the worst case, if the filter is not replaced in a timely manner, the engine will not start.

What filters need to be changed in the car?

  1. . Provides filtration of air entering the engine. Eliminates small and large foreign particles. In cars with injection engines it is located on the engine. In cars with carburetor engines, it is located inside the air collector.
  2. . Provides filtration of motor, lubricating and transmission oils. Located on the front or rear side of the cylinder block, depending on the engine type.
  3. . Protects vehicle fuel from foreign impurities. Located between the pump and the fuel tank.

How often should you change filters in your car?

The frequency of replacement depends on the type of device, as well as operating conditions.

  1. Replacement air filter should be carried out every 10,000 km.
  2. Installation of a new oil filter is carried out along with an oil change every 15,000 km. With regular use of a car in urban conditions, this figure decreases to 10,000 km.
  3. The fuel filter is changed once every 20,000 km. This number can be reduced to 8 or 10 thousand km, depending on the operating conditions of the car.
