How to store a wristwatch? Workshop - shelf for watches DIY watch holder

Metal was chosen as the material for the stand (can also be made of wood or plastic). Once upon a time the occasion turned up aluminum panel from musical equipment. The aluminum plate originally contained drilled holes for screws and speakers, which made it much easier further work. All that remains is to correctly mark the fragments of the stand and cut them according to the marks aluminum plate. Armed with a hacksaw, I got to work.

We mark with a scriber (pointed metal rod) fragments of future cutting.

We saw the fragments of the stand according to the markings.

The sawn fragments of the stand subsequently had to be adjusted with a file, since the dimensions and radii of the hole in the two halves were not identical to each other. The two halves were aligned and fastened with screws for ease of filing. To avoid damaging your hands when handling metal parts, the parts should be fixed in a vice or use bench pliers. After adjusting the dimensions, burrs and chamfers were removed, as well as to preserve aesthetics metal structure corners are rounded. For fastening together, two hexagonal through posts were used (used for fastening printed circuit boards to housings on electrical equipment) and countersunk screws. The hexagonal stands had to be cut to the width of the watch case so that they would be in a stable position on the stand.

We align the two blanks evenly in relation to each other and secure them together with screws. Then we fix the two halves in a vice and process them with a file.

After bringing the blanks to the desired state, we assemble the stand (later the usual screws were replaced with screws with a countersunk head).

After assembling all the parts, we could have stopped there, but it seemed to me that the watch had an unfinished look. The black dial and frame of the watch did not go well with the golden plating of aluminum. To solve this “compatibility”, you can resort to painting or completely cover the holes and bolt heads with overlays. At home I found scraps of thick black leatherette. After transferring the outline of the stand onto a piece of leatherette, two overlays for the stand were cut out. Using double-sided tape, the cut out overlays were tentatively glued onto the surface of the stand. If you don’t have a clear idea of how a stand with overlays will look, then I advise you to do just that, use double-sided tape, if you are satisfied with the result, then you can safely use glue.

We transfer the outline of the stand to reverse side leatherette and cut out the overlays along the outlined line.

After the clock took its place on the stand, the aviation clock began to look like a mantelpiece and became even more attractive. The work done can be divided into two stages: manufacturing and decoration. You can entrust the making of the necessary stand to suit your needs to your husband or son, and leave the decoration to your wife and daughter. When working together, it develops creative thinking and the ability to do something with your own hands. After all, there are times when not everything can be bought in a store, but you can make almost anything yourself! The main thing is to use your imagination and think everything through!

The preparation for the watch is done in this way: the base is covered several times with soil from acrylic paints, and finally polished. The desired shade and texture are given to the base in the next step.

There is one trick - if you want to make a watch in the old style with a tint that represents scuffs, then the paint must be applied with a sponge.

The color scheme should be in harmony with the interior of the room. After all, a bright clock will look ugly in a room designed in a minimalist style. Therefore, the choice of shade is key point in this matter.

Most often, multi-colored quilling elements are used to create flowers, insects, trees, animals, berries, and so on.

Among professionals, such a tile is called a medallion. The mechanism of the future watch is attached to its back. To make the product look more elegant and discreet, its surface should be covered. matte paint light colors.
