The popularity of the drug and the presence of counterfeits prompted the manufacturer, the German pharmaceutical company Berlin-Chemie AG/Menarini Group, to develop anti-counterfeit protection for Mezim Forte.

The original packaging has a hologram on the top right of the packaging, under the top layer of which, when erased with any hard object, a stylized letter “M” is revealed.

Composition of the drug

The main active ingredient of the drug Mezim forte is obtained from the tissues of the pancreas of pigs and has undergone special processing. Depending on the concentration of pancreatin, one tablet contains:

  • Mezim forte – 93-108 mg;
  • Mezim forte 10000 – 125 mg;
  • Mezim forte 20000 – 220-293 mg.

The components of pancreatin are active enzymes such as:

  1. amylase (Mezim forte - 4200 units, Mezim forte 10000 - 7500 units, Mezim forte 20000 - 12000 units);
  2. lipase (Mezim forte - 3500 units, Mezim forte 10000 - 10000 units, Mezim forte 20000 - 20000 units);
  3. protease (Mezim forte - 250 units, Mezim forte 10000 - 375 units, Mezim forte 20000 - 900 units).

In addition to these enzymes, the drug contains excipients.

Pharmacological action

Taking the drug helps digestion!

Enzyme enzymes Mezim Forte compensate for the deficiency of the pancreas' own enzymes and help digest the main components of food - fats, proteins, carbohydrates.

The enteric coating of the tablets allows the drug to manifest its activity in the small intestine, where it reaches in full.

Absorption of pancreatin does not occur through the intestinal walls; it is excreted along with the contents. The activity of the main active ingredient of the drug is assessed by lipase activity and the proportion of trypsin.

For patients with cystic fibrosis, amylase activity is important. When using the drug, pancreatin interacts with digestive juices and bacteria of the digestive tract.

Application of Mezim Forte

The drug is used in cases where the pancreas cannot cope with the load, and there are also diseases and conditions such as:

  1. Roemheld syndrome (gastrocardiac symptom),
  2. cystic fibrosis,
  3. condition after removal of part of the small intestine and stomach,
  4. neuroses and intestinal infections that slow down the passage of food through the intestines,
  5. poor diet and consumption of large amounts of fatty or unusual foods,
  6. dyspepsia,
  7. condition after irradiation, accompanied by diarrhea, disturbances in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract,
  8. irritable bowel syndrome.

Dosage

Mezim forte should be taken according to the instructions.

The number of tablets taken for various problems is calculated based on the amount of lipase per 1 kg of the patient’s body weight. The dosage is calculated and the duration of treatment is determined by the attending physician: a gastroenterologist or therapist.

The usual practice for adults is from 1 to 4 tablets of Mezim forte several times a day. They are taken before or during meals with plenty of liquid.

The lack of a therapeutic effect or the appearance of side effects should be discussed with your doctor to adjust the dosage. Particular attention should be paid when treating children, where self-medication is unacceptable. Dosage in children:

  • children under 12 years of age – no more than 15 thousand IU of lipase per kilogram of child’s body weight;
  • children over 12 years old - from 15 to 20 thousand per kilogram of body weight.

In the practice of taking Mezim Forte, there have been no cases of drug overdose. This is due to the fact that the drug is not absorbed through the walls of the digestive tract.

Isolated cases of hyperuricemia or hyperuricosuria have been reported. The drugs are so active that they can damage the oral mucosa. To avoid this, you should swallow the tablets without chewing them.

Side effects and contraindications

Mezim Forte is not used during acute pancreatitis and exacerbations of its chronic form. Contraindications to its use are:

  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug (pancreatin, components of the tablet shell);
  • intestinal obstruction due to obstruction (mechanical obstruction).

Taking the drug without consulting a doctor may cause the following side effects:

  1. – runny nose, dermatitis, bronchospasm, lacrimation;
  2. functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract - diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, constipation;
  3. in patients with cystic fibrosis - narrowing of the colon or ileocecal canal;
  4. in patients with cystic fibrosis - increased secretion of uric acid.

Special instructions

Pancreatitis - indications for use of the drug

The effect of Mezim Forte on the body of pregnant and lactating women has not been studied well enough. Manufacturers warn that such categories of patients should not take the drug without consulting a doctor.

Its use is permitted only in cases where the probable risk to the child or fetus is not greater than the benefit to the mother's body.

The drug has no effect on driving a car, as well as machinery and other types of transport.

Interactions with drugs

Pancreatin reduces the absorption of folic acid, so during long-term therapy it is necessary to ensure its additional supply. Miglitol and Acrabose, used in the treatment of diabetes, will not be able to effectively lower blood sugar when taken simultaneously with the drug Mezim forte.

Iron supplements are not fully absorbed through the intestinal walls while taking pancreatin. with an active substance in the form of calcium carbonate or magnesium hydroxide reduce the effectiveness of the drug.

How to store Mezim Forte

The optimal storage temperature is not higher than 30C; the drug should not be taken after the expiration date; it should be stored in a place inaccessible to children.

  • Pancreatin tablets - instructions for use, description...

In recent years, a situation has developed that people cannot take a single step without various kinds of pills. And to a greater extent this applies to stomach pills. And this is initially due to the fact that the so-called fast food is very developed in the world. Frequent use, which leads to various types of stomach upsets.

Therefore, in order to help their stomach, people resort to medications for help. And in this case, one of the most common drugs, surprisingly, is Pancreatin and the well-known Mezim. But this is not the entire list of possible drugs. But what is better to use and in what cases? This is what we will try to figure out.

Brief description of the drug Mezim

Before giving preference to any particular drug, it is worth understanding what it is. So, Mezim is, first of all, one of the most popular drugs that belong to the so-called broad pharmacological group. The main component of this drug is pancreatin. It is this that ensures the effect of the pill directly on the body.

Pay attention to the fact that this drug not only helps the stomach cope with fatty foods, but also helps normalize the digestion process. The effect of Mezim appears within half an hour after you take the pill. In addition, this drug includes a number of enzymes, which in turn additionally relieve the burden on the stomach.

Remember, it is strictly forbidden to take Mezim for people who have a disease such as pancreatitis. Therefore, if you have such a disease, the best solution would be to use some other drug with similar effects. Sometimes, after taking Mezim, so-called side effects may occur (nausea, heaviness in the stomach, stool disturbances). Most often, such symptoms occur after excessive use of pills.

Brief description of the drug Pancreatin

But Pancreatin is, first of all, a drug that replenishes the deficiency of so-called enzymes. And it is prescribed not only for such a disease as pancreatitis, but in many other cases. For example, this drug can be used for gastritis, dispersion, cirrhosis, cholecystitis or flatulence. And this is not the entire list of possible diseases for which it would be advisable to use this drug.

Pancreatin contains enzymes that allow your stomach to fully digest food. Please note that doctors do not recommend using this drug during pregnancy. It should also not be given to children under three years of age.

The main active ingredient in the drug is pancreatin (but only of pork origin). Therefore, people who are very poorly able to tolerate this component, taking a Pancreatin tablet, can provoke an allergic reaction.

What is the difference between Mezim and Pancreatin?

As mentioned earlier, due to the fact that modern people consume fatty foods in large quantities, they experience a feeling of heaviness and stomach problems. Therefore, to make your life easier, you have to use various drugs. Which help get rid of such unpleasant symptoms.

Despite the huge range of medicines, Pancreatin or Mezim are increasingly used in such cases. But what is the best drug to choose? Getting an answer to this question is not so easy. Because a lot depends on the situation. And in this case, you cannot do without consulting a doctor. Moreover, these drugs are not as similar to each other as it seems at first glance.

The first and most important difference between these drugs is the country in which the drug is produced. There is also a significant price difference between these drugs. Mezim costs three times more than. You also shouldn’t lose sight of the difference in enzyme parameters.

What to choose?

Due to the rapid development of radio and television, one can often find advertisements for various medical drugs. And medications such as Mezim and Pancreatin are no exception. There are a lot of them and they are often advertised. Therefore, most people, having seen this kind of advertising, ask the same question: which is better, Pancreatin or Mezim, or maybe they are the same thing, only the names are different?

To fully reveal the answer to this common question, these two drugs just need to be compared with each other.

So, Pancreatin uses enzymes from so-called pork material, and Mezim uses enzymes from cattle tissue. Mezim does not have such a strong effect, so most often it is used exclusively after overeating. But Mezim Forte has a stronger effect, so it may well compete with Pancreatin.

Typically, Pancreatin is used only after a doctor’s prescription, but this rule most often does not apply to Mezim, since in most cases it can be taken independently without a doctor’s recommendation.

But in addition to their differences, these drugs also have similar properties. For example, it is strictly forbidden to use them for any diseases related to the stomach and pancreas. It is also advisable to use both of these drugs in the presence of a lack of so-called enzymes.

As for the well-known prefix Forte, in both cases it means that the drug has a stronger effect.

In addition, a distinctive feature of these medicines is the country in which they are produced. For Mezim, this is Germany, but Pancreatin, as you know, is a so-called domestic medicine.

Remember, both of these medications belong exclusively to the preventive group of medications. It is also worth noting that, if necessary, these medications can perfectly replace each other. Because they all have a fairly similar effect.

But I would still like to remind you that if you find yourself experiencing pain in the abdominal area, you should not drop everything and run to the pharmacy for a pill. After all, the problem may turn out to be much more serious than it seemed to you at first glance. And taking the “wrong” drugs can cause quite a lot of harm to your body. Therefore, the first thing to do if any painful sensations occur is to seek help from a qualified doctor. He will conduct a full examination of your body and explain in detail what causes the pain, as well as how to get rid of it.

Therefore, you should not buy the first remedy that comes to mind for the symptoms that arise. After all, your health is at stake, and you need to take care of it.

Name of medicine: Mezim Forte 10000
Name of the medicine in English: Mezym Forte 10000

Manufacturer:"BERLIN-CHEMIEAG (MENARINI GROUP)", Germany
1 tablet contains: lipase - 10,000 units, amylase - 7,500 units, protease - 375 units.
Release form: Table p/o intestinal digestion, No. 10, No. 20, No. 50.

Pharmacological action

Pancreatin is a pancreatic enzyme that takes part in the digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates in the digestive tract. The decisive factor is the enzymatic activity of lipase, as well as the trypsin content, while amylolytic activity is only important in the treatment of cystic fibrosis, since even with a significant decrease in the secretory activity of the pancreas, sufficient amylase activity remains. The acid-resistant coating covering the tablets does not dissolve under the action of gastric juice and protects enzymes from their inactivation in the stomach. Only under the influence of the neutral or slightly alkaline environment of the small intestine does the membrane dissolve and enzymes are released.

Indications for use

Diseases accompanied by disruption of the digestive process due to exocrine pancreatic insufficiency: chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis. Condition after simultaneous resection of the stomach and small intestine. Functional acceleration of food passage through the intestines, intestinal diseases. Errors in diet - consumption of indigestible plant, fatty and unusual foods. Flatulence and preparation for ultrasound or x-ray examination.

Directions for use and doses

The dose of Mezim forte 10000 is determined individually, depending on the degree of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. As a rule, the drug is taken 1-4 tablets with meals 2-3 times a day, without chewing and with a sufficient amount of liquid, for example a glass of water or juice. Depending on the type of food and the degree of digestive disturbance, the dose may be significantly increased. Increasing dosage should be carried out under the supervision of a physician, taking into account the positive dynamics of clinical manifestations of the disease, such as steatorrhea or pain. The daily dose of enzymes, which is 15,000-20,000 IU of lipase per 1 kg of body weight, should not be exceeded. The question of increasing the dosage of the drug and the duration of treatment is decided by the doctor individually. The doctor decides on the dosage of the drug and the duration of treatment in children. For children, Mezim forte 10000 is prescribed in the dose necessary to normalize the character of stool, but not higher than 1500 IU of lipase per 1 kg of body weight of a child under the age of 12 years. For children aged 12-18 years, the daily dose should not exceed 15,000-20,000 IU of lipase per 1 kg of body weight.

Side effects

In patients with cystic fibrosis, when using the drug in high doses, there may be an increased excretion of uric acid in the urine, therefore, in order to prevent the formation of uric acid stones in such patients, it is necessary to control the urate content in the urine; the appearance of allergic reactions; in isolated cases in patients with cystic fibrosis - stenosis of the lower parts of the small intestine, constipation and intestinal obstruction.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to pork meat, azorubine varnish or other components of the drug. Acute pancreatitis or chronic pancreatitis in the acute phase.

Special instructions

Intestinal obstruction is a common complication in patients with cystic fibrosis, so if you have symptoms reminiscent of this condition, you should be aware of the possibility of intestinal strictures.

The drug contains active enzymes that can damage the oral mucosa, so the tablets should be swallowed whole without chewing. The drug should not be used in patients with rare congenital galactose intolerance syndrome, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. During pregnancy and lactation, the drug is taken as prescribed by a doctor if the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus/child.

Children. Used in children over 3 years of age.

Impact on the ability to manage transport and maintain complex mechanisms. No effect.

Drug interactions

As a result of the use of drugs containing pancreatin, the absorption of folic acid may decrease, which may necessitate its additional intake into the body. The hypoglycemic effect of acarbose and miglitol may be reduced with simultaneous use of the drug Mezim forte 10000.

Overdose

Unlikely.

Conditions and shelf life

At temperatures up to 25 °C. Shelf life - 2 years.

Vacation conditions: over the counter.

Mezim forte is a medicine that compensates for the deficiency of pancreatic enzymes. This medicine belongs to the group of effective enzyme preparations and is intended to quickly improve the digestive process and functions of the gastrointestinal tract. Instructions for use Mezim forte indicate that the product is used in the treatment of diseases such as:

  • chronic pacreatitis,
  • peptic ulcer,
  • gastritis,
  • enteritis,
  • dysbiosis and intestinal infections.

This new generation drug contains the necessary pancreatic enzymes - lipase, amylase, protease. They ensure easy digestion of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates in the body. That is why the medicine is widely used for bloating and stomach discomfort.

Mezim works well to eliminate diarrhea and various intestinal infections. This drug is also used in preparing the gastrointestinal tract for many diagnostic methods - ultrasound and x-ray examination of the intestines.

The drug is available in the form of tablets that have a pancreatic protective effect. The active medicinal components of the product are pancreatin of natural origin and enzymes of natural origin. The name of the product “Mezim 10000” means that one tablet contains exactly that many units of the lipase enzyme. There is also a drug Mezim 20000.

Thanks to the active medicinal components that are part of the drug, the necessary functions of the gastrointestinal tract are quickly normalized and various disorders caused by a deficiency of endogenous enzymes are eliminated. As a result of taking Mezim, the breakdown of fats, proteins and carbohydrates improves, and they are more quickly absorbed into the intestinal walls.

The drug also has an analgesic effect due to another enzyme - trypsin. Thanks to it, excessive secretion of the pancreas is suppressed. Taking the drug replenishes the lack of enzymes in the human body, thereby improving food digestion.

Pancreatin and enzymes, which are included in the tablet, are protected by a special coating. Its dissolution and release of active medicinal substances occurs in the duodenum. The coating of the tablet is particularly resistant to gastric juice, so the enzymes are not activated in the stomach.

The maximum therapeutic effect after taking the drug occurs in the body half an hour after taking the drug.

Reviews of the use of Mezim indicate that this medication is usually well tolerated by the body. The product quickly eliminates any discomfort in the stomach and intestines, eliminates pain in the abdomen.

Patients who took Mezim were able to feel an improvement in their health within a few minutes. Within half an hour after taking the drug, pain in the stomach and intestines goes away, bloating stops and digestion improves.

The drug Mezim is prescribed for the treatment of the following diseases:

  • inflammatory process in the gallbladder;
  • chronic pancreatitis;
  • cystic fibrosis;
  • insufficiency of pancreatic secretion;
  • inflammatory processes in the stomach;
  • inflammatory processes in the liver;
  • intestinal infections;
  • flatulence;
  • impaired digestion;
  • diarrhea.

This medicine is also used in restoring the body after gastric surgery and in preparation for various studies of the abdominal organs. The drug helps the body cope well with fatty and rich foods when consumed - the medicine facilitates the digestion of food and eliminates the development of complications due to errors in nutrition.

Mezim tablets are often prescribed to improve digestion during a sedentary lifestyle. The use of the medicine quickly and effectively eliminates various dysfunctions of the digestive organs.

The medication Mezim is recommended by doctors while consuming poorly compatible foods. It quickly and effectively eliminates indigestion and bloating. This drug improves the functional activity of the gastrointestinal tract in a short period of time.

The use of Mezim is especially necessary in the presence of various pathologies of the digestive system, chronic inflammatory processes and severe hyposecretion of pancreatic enzymes.

The product is available in pharmacies without a prescription. However, the attending physician must prescribe the medicine. Before purchasing a medicine at a pharmacy, you must consult a doctor who will prescribe the correct treatment regimen for this medication.

The drug Mezim forte is taken orally before meals or during meals. The tablet must be swallowed whole without chewing. Afterwards you need to drink it with enough water.

Otherwise, the acid-resistant protective coating of the tablet, which preserves the enzymes until released in the intestines, may be destroyed. As a result of the destruction of the shell before the required time, the effectiveness and therapeutic effect of the drug is reduced.

The treatment regimen for this medicine is determined by the doctor individually and depends on the severity of the disease and its characteristic symptoms. Usually prescribed:

  • adults: 1-2 tablets 1-3 times a day;
  • children 12-18 years old no more than 20,000 IU of lipase per 1 kg of body weight;
  • for children under 12 years of age no more than 1500 IU per 1 kg of body weight.

Taking the enzyme drug Mezim can be a single dose or last up to several months. The drug is often used as enzyme replacement therapy for various digestive pathologies.

The drug Mezim is prescribed to children as maintenance therapy for various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. In case of accidental overeating, poisoning or errors in nutrition, you can get by with a single dose of medication. This drug can also be used for long-term treatment of a child.

The drug is used in the treatment of pancreatitis in children, which manifests itself against the background of diseases of the biliary tract or diseases of the duodenum. Mezim allows you to quickly eliminate abdominal pain of various etiologies and bloating. Often the drug is prescribed for:

  • intestinal infections of the child;
  • cystic fibrosis;
  • diarrhea;
  • and after gastric surgery.

The drug is usually well tolerated by the child's body and rarely causes side effects or allergies. It can be given to children from 1 year old. To do this, it is necessary to correctly calculate the dose of the medication. Mezim is given to children according to the following scheme:

  • from 1 year to 7 years – ¼ tablet – 1 tablet up to 3 times a day;
  • from 7 years to 12 years – 1-2 tablets 2-3 times a day;
  • 12-18 years - no more than 20,000 IU of lipase per 1 kg of body weight.

One Mezim tablet contains:

  • 3500 IU lipase;
  • 4200 IU amylase;
  • 250 IU protease.

The course of treatment with the drug can last 4 days – 1 month.

To make it easier for young children to take the tablet, you can crush the tablet in water, draw the resulting solution into a plastic syringe and let the child swallow the medicine. However, you should know that it is best to swallow the tablet whole with water to avoid reducing the drug effect.

The enzyme preparation Mezim is not prohibited for use during pregnancy and lactation. However, it is important to know that specialists have not conducted detailed studies of the medication on pregnant women. It is better to use the drug in treatment during pregnancy only in case of special medical indications.

A doctor may prescribe Mezim during pregnancy if the expected benefit to the mother is higher than the risk to the fetus. If any side effects occur, the use of the drug must be discontinued.

During breastfeeding, the use of Mezim is also not prohibited, so there is no need to stop breastfeeding the child.

Contraindications

This medication is not used in treatment in the presence of individual intolerance and hypersensitivity to its medicinal components.

In rare cases, when taking the drug, the following may occur:

  • nausea;
  • pain in the abdomen;
  • discomfort in the intestines;
  • allergic reaction;
  • stool changes.

With very long-term use of the medication, the concentration of uric acid in the urine may increase and hyperuricemia may occur.

Drug interactions

Long-term use of the drug with iron-containing agents, ferrous sulfate and Sorbifer, can reduce the absorption of iron in the intestine. In this case, anemia, weakness and pallor of the skin develop. Performance may also decrease.

The effectiveness of Mezim decreases when used simultaneously with antacids containing magnesium and calcium. When using Mezim simultaneously with antacids, it is recommended to increase the dose of the drug.

Analogues

The modern pharmaceutical market today offers a wide range of different enzyme preparations. They all differ in the amount of amylase enzyme. Medicines in this group have an active effect on the digestive system and improve its functions.

Mezim analogues contain pancreatin and the necessary enzymes of animal origin. The cheapest similar drugs are Pancreatin and Festal.

Enzyme group drugs are used in the treatment of pancreatitis, intestinal and stomach diseases, digestive disorders, diarrhea, and flatulence. Also, these medications are necessary for overeating and a sedentary lifestyle.

Doctors strongly do not recommend choosing a drug similar to Mezim on your own. If for some reason treatment with Mezim is impossible, then the selection of an analogue medication should only be carried out by the attending physician who knows the symptoms and characteristics of the disease. The main analogues of Mezim include:

  • Pancreatin;
  • Creon;
  • Biofestal;
  • Panzinorm;
  • Vestal;
  • Penzital;
  • Enzistal.

The well-known drug Festal contains pancreatin and bovine bile. In contrast, Mezim does not contain ox bile. This component of Festal stimulates the production of the necessary enzymes in the human body. As a result, the medicinal effect of Festal is slightly wider than Mezima. Festal also includes in its composition an additional substance hemicellulose, which is not found in Mezim.

Only the attending physician decides to prescribe Festal or Mezim, based on the existing characteristics of the disease and the patient’s body.

If you already have pancreatic disease, it is better to give preference to Mezim. Its active medicinal substances eliminate enzymatic deficiency.

Festal is usually prescribed by a doctor to improve digestion in a number of diseases of the digestive tract, including poisoning. Both drugs are excellent in helping to cope with stool disorders and restore secretion of the internal organs of the gastrointestinal tract.

The cost of Mezim and its analogues varies in different pharmacies. Average prices for drugs:

  • Mezim – 180-270 rubles;
  • Creon – 285 rubles;
  • Panzinorm – 70 rubles;
  • Pancreatin – 55 rubles;
  • Festal – 150 – 270 rubles;
  • Enzistal - 120 rubles.

Taking Mezim helps improve digestion during overeating and is used in the treatment of various diseases of the intestines, stomach and pancreas.

If there are certain indications, this enzyme preparation can be used in the treatment of children and pregnant women. The drug Mezim can be stored for 3 years in a dark place at room temperature.
